Is it possible to have a hidden iCloud account on a device?

So I have decided to buy a second hand or used iPhone 5 online. I fear of having it iCloud locked.
I mean, can the previous owner hide his iCloud account from the iPhone.
Or simply by seeing the iCloud account of the iPhone logged out means it's safe to perform hard reset or iTunes restore?
What else should I check before purchasing the iPhone?
Thank you!

Buying online is going to make it impossible to do any real, physical checks. Unless you have the phone in front of you, you cannot be sure you are getting what is advertised.
A dodgy seller can easily fake screenshots and then send you a locked phone.
Read "How do I check for Activation Lock before purchasing a used device?" in the article below:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5818
Also, insert a SIM card from the network you intend to use it on and make sure the network name appears top-left of the screen to show it isn't locked to a different network.
Personally, I would not risk buying without physically examining the phone.

  • Is it possible to have a joint iCloud account on iPad & iPhone and have seperate messaging?

    Hi,
I have an iPad (wi-fi only) and an iPhone. They both share the same iTunes account so that apps / music are available on both devices but I currently have seperate iCloud accounts for them.
What i want to know though is..... is it possible to have them on the same iCloud account for syncing between devices but to have the messaging to still be seperate? i.e. i don't want to see messages sent to my iPhone on the iPad and vice versa.
Currently in the settings for iMessage the iPhone has it's iCloud e-mail address in there and the iPad has it's icloud e-mail address in there so if they are both on the same iCloud account does that mean i lose the ability to keep the messaging seperate? And if it doesn't how do i need to set things up so as to keep messaging seperate for each device?
I hope that all makes sense???
    Thanks
    David.

Yes, you can use the same iCloud and separate iMessage and FaceTime by using your second ID for these services.

  • Possible to have two separate iCloud accounts in MAIL?

I have successfully added my spouse's new iCloud account in the Mail app on my family's shared iMac OSX10.7.5, but Mail Prefs won't allow me to change his account's nickname, which is currently iCloud. My iCloud account is the primary account on this iMac. Thanks.

How do you do it, basically I have an iPad but family member has one which needs to be set up and added to iTunes but we do not want the same apps and stuff on the iPads. How do I create a separate accounts for me and them, I already have mine with my stuff, will it interfere with it ?

  • Is it possible to have filters for one account on 3 devices ? And have the same results/folders.

I have one email account on 3 devices and I need to filter all received emails, on all 3 devices. Same folders and same filters.
If I create a filter rule on one PC then I can't find the filtered emails ( that are in the new created folder on PC no.1 ) on the other devices. What can I do?

To answer the question as stated in your topic, it's possible but not easy.
Obviously you can enter the same filters by hand on each installation of Thunderbird, but it's tedious and error-prone. You can set them up on one machine and copy the filter files over to the other machines. Also tedious and error-prone.
The way you describe the messages vanishing from sight suggests strongly that you're currently using POP, and this has no way of making use of shared folders. To continue working in this way, all you could do is set each client to leave a copy on the server for the others and painstakingly manage a set of filters on each and every machine, keeping them in synch by hand and careful management. (And ditto for your folders.) You'd also have to attend to the POP server from time to time to remove accumulated messages left there by your clients.
The real answer to this and your later question is to use an IMAP-connected account, where all your data lives in one place, on the email provider's server, and all your devices simply look at and work with one common set of data. Any filtering, editing, moving, etc you did on one machine would very quickly become visible on the other machines. In fact. the ability for more than one machine to be simultaneously be working on the same message becomes a somewhat worrying possibility. It's not clear if this is a likely event in your scenario.
Even using IMAP, if you filter at the client then you'd still have the issue of managing multiple instances of your filters, and the final part of this is to make use of filtering offered by the server; then the filtering takes place "at source" and you have just one filter set to maintain.
If your current email provider doesn't provide IMAP, and cannot offer it, then there are many alternatives who will. If it's for business then I think you should look for a paid-for service that includes guarantees, backups and an SLA. Your domain provider should be able to offer this.
For personal use, many of the free suppliers are worth considering. Googlemail works well, but if you're uneasy about their pervasiveness, have a look at gmx/1&1. Microsoft's hotmail/live mail/outlook.com offers IMAP. Yahoo! probably does (please check in your locality) but they have a bad track record and a lamentable reputation and I wouldn't want to entrust them with any precious material.

  • Can i have two separate icloud accounts for my devices

My iCloud stoarge is filling up because it is all the stuff from my iPad and iPhone.  can i have separate accounts so i can have a full amount of storage on each instead of it sharing.  Also, if i can, would it sync to my iCloud on my Mac Pro?

You could set up separate accounts on your devices, but the iCloud data will not be synced between your devices any more.  In other words, the accounts will not sync with each other.

  • I have 2 iCloud accounts. 3 devices use one of them as a primary account; my iPhone uses the other as a primary account so I can't stream photos from iPhone etc. What to do?

I have 2 iCloud accounts. 3 devices use one of them as a primary account; my iPhone uses the other as a primary account so I can't stream photos from iPhone etc. What to do?

Sorry, yes indeed you can do that, I thought you wanted to keep the accounts the way they are now and also share photo stream between all devices, which of course is not possible.
In order to login to the account you are currently logged in to as a secondary account, as a primary account, and vice versa, you will need to delete both accounts from that device and then log back into them with the correct account as a primary (settings > iCloud) and the correct account as a secondary (settings > mail, contacts, calendars).

  • Is it possible to create a new iCloud account and permanently transfer existing store purchases to it?

Is it possible to create a new iCloud account and permanently transfer existing store purchases to it?

Thank you for taking the time to try to answer my question. Let me phrase it slightly differently...
I have a very old appleid that I've used for store purchases. I had a MobileMe account that was upgraded to iCloud. I'd like to merge the account data. I've been hoping Apple would come up with a solution to this, but they haven't yet.
So, I'm wondering if I should make a new account of some sort and try to transfer data to it from both of the old accounts. It sounds like that can't work.
I suppose then that the only thing to do is manually transfer all the information from the old MobileMe account to the primary appleid (which is some sort of iCloud + Store combination, no?). That might not be that hard to do, but it is somewhat high risk.

  • HT5616 I have multiple phones and iPads and all are linked to one iCloud account and one iTunes Account.  I want to keep the same iTunes Account so I can share music, etc., however, I want each device to have its own iCloud account.  How do I do this?

I have multiple phones and iPads and all are linked to one iCloud account and one iTunes Account.  I want to keep the same iTunes Account so I can share music, etc., however, I want each device to have its own iCloud account.  Any help on how I can I do this?

You'll need to create an Apple ID for each device. Use the new Apple ID for FaceTime, iMessage and iCloud on the device. Use the original Apple ID for Settings>iTunes & App Store.

  • Can I have three different iCloud accounts in my iBook? one for each user of the family? Thanks

I have a computer at home which is used by 5 family members. Each of us have a separate user in the MacBook. Can each of us have a different iCloud account to sincronize with each of our iPhones or once you download the iCloud for one of us, no other iCloud will be added to the same laptop?
    Many thanks.

    Hi Valeriano009,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
You are already on the right track with 5 individual user accounts on your computer.    Please be sure to back up your main Apple ID account before making any changes below.
The article below will explain in more detail ... but it sounds like you will want to create a separate Apple ID for each member of your family to keep their contacts, calendars, Photo Stream etc. separate.
If your family has made a lot of iTunes Store purchases, you can stay signed in to your current Apple ID to have access to them.   Or your family members can start fresh with their own iTunes Store purchases.  Please review the Frequently Asked Questions section in this article:
Using your Apple ID for Apple services
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4895
Each member of your family should log into their own user account on the computer, and then click on the link below to create their unique Apple ID.
    Apple - My Apple ID
    https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
Make sure that the email address you want to use for your Apple ID meets these conditions:
The email address is one that you use regularly, because it will be the primary email address for your Apple ID.
The email address is not associated with any other Apple ID.
The email address is not an iCloud email address, which is already an Apple ID. iCloud email addresses end with @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com.
If each family member is currently using the old Apple ID for their iCloud account on their devices, they will need to follow these steps:
    iCloud: Change iCloud feature settings
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2613
Before you delete the old iCloud account from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, turn off each of the features ( contacts, calendars, etc. ) and when prompted, choose to "Keep on My iPhone" if you wish to keep that information.  If your family member doesn't need or want any of this information, then skip down to the selection below to delete the iCloud account completely.
    Turn iCloud features  off
On your iOS device’s Home screen, go to Settings > iCloud, then tap to turn off iCloud features.
When you turn off a feature, you’re asked whether you want your device to keep a copy of your information stored in iCloud for that feature.
Once you have saved the contacts, calendars, etc. that you want from the current iCloud account on your family member's iPhone, then you can delete the old iCloud account from their device.
    Turn off iCloud completely
On your iOS device’s Home screen, go to Settings > iCloud, then at the bottom of the screen, tap Delete Account.
At this point, I would suggest turning off the device, and restarting it.  Then, tap on Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.  Tap on Add Account.  Tap iCloud.  Now type in your family member's new Apple ID email address and password.

Made new account as per instruction ie [email protected] works fine
BUT as I want to utilise the money spent on the additional memory it would be great to use the initial account set up as my primary HOWEVER as far as I have tried the initial apple ID CANNOT be changed. Bit confused actually any usefull guidance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • Can I have one apple ID and two iCloud accounts for different devices.

can I have one apple I'd and numerous iCloud accounts for different devices?

Yes you can, you just need to go into settings and into icloud, once it says account, login to your desired account

  • Can we have the same iCloud account for 2 Macs, 2 iPhones and an iPad?

My partner and I each have an iMac and an iPhone, and we have an iPad which we both use. It suits us to have a single iCloud account because we share all calendars and contacts.
However, we're about to upgrade our iPhones and I've read that if both the old and the new device has iOS 5 or later, the data transfer should be done via iCloud. Please can anyone tell me if 2 iPhones can be backed up to iCloud (currently they're backed up to the iMacs) without causing difficulty? Each phone has a different name attached to it, so I guess it may be OK if they're done one at a time. Or maybe it's OK to do the data transfer via iTunes, even though the iOS is 6.1.6...?
    With thanks.

    Hello Gillylal Fordham-Lear,
This can be done via iTunes or iCloud, as detailed in the article linked below.

  • Just updated my iphone. Now I can se I have two? iCloud accounts? One of them appears on my phone, and I have forgotten the password. When I try to add the other account, I get the message that this account is already added, but with the name of the first

Just updated my iphone. Now I can se I have two! iCloud accounts? One of them appears on my phone, and I have forgotten the password. When I try to add the other account, I get the message that this account is already added, but with the name of the first account where there is no available password. I have tried several times to reset the password, bun I don't get the information I need - I have no access to email. What can I do?

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I have tried as you suggested, and when opening the "purchased" apps some have the icloud logo next to them, but I only have "OPEN" against "Find My iPhone". When opening it up, it goes through the same routine; needs to be updated before proceeding, and wouldn't update because I don't have IOS8.
Anything else I could try, or am I doomed!
All of your help is much appreciated, thanks

  • I have two different iCloud accounts. I can't sign into photo stream with my personal account and have tried deleting from my iPhone first, then the MacBook Pro. Still won't let me sign in with the personal account. Please help.

I have two different iCloud accounts - business and personal. I can't sign into Photo Stream with my personal account because it says my business account is my primary account. They are separate but equal accounts. I have tried deleting the iCloud account from my iPhone, then my MacBook Pro and signing in again on both devices. The iPhone says that my primary account ismy personal account (which is good) but my MacBook Pro still will not sign into that account so I can use Photo Stream.
Any suggestions? This iCloud stuff is getting annoying.
