Is it possible to have a Youtube or Google search result appear in Firefox history without knowing about it?
I recently found some Google and Youtube search results on my boyfriend's computer in Firefox that were "questionable" and when I asked him about them, he adamantly denied knowing what they were and said he recently had some viruses on his computer and they could have put these results on there. I don't know if this is possible or not. The only thing similar to this I've heard is viruses redirecting you to a certain site, but not to specific google and youtube results, and if that did happen, he would have to see them, right? I think it's version 11.0. HELP!!
It is possible that you have a virus that was redirecting, but if there are Google searches, and Youtube searches, it is most likely that ''someone'' did those searches.
You can try running these tools to check for infections: [http://www.malwarebytes.org/ http://www.malwarebytes.org/]
[http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363 http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363]
So, I can't say for certain your boyfriend did these, but it is most likely that "somebody", not "something" did them.

if i type simply phrases in to the URL bar (i,e bbc) it use to take me directly to www.bbc.co.uk. but now in firefox 4, it seems to go to google.co.uk instead displaying all the searched items. I then have to click on the link i want.
Is there any way of enabling this? The change between Firefox 3.6.* and Firefox 4 is how location bar search works. In Firefox 3.6 it uses Google "Browse by name" search. With the browse by name search, it performs a Google search and if there is a clear match it will take you to the site, otherwise it shows the Google search result. With Firefox 4 it just performs a Google search if you type something which is not recognised as a URL.
To get the Firefox 3.6 behaviour on Firefox 4 you need to change a hidden preference.
# Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
# Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
# Locate the preference '''keyword.URL''', double-click on it and change its value to the link shown below

If you prefer, you can also do this by installing the Browse by Name extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/browse-by-name -
I downloaded the latest version of Mozilla Firefox yesterday, full and complete, and I am actually using it right now. The only problem I have had is upon clicking any YouTube video, the box pops up saying "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (rtsp) isn't associated with any program." But there are no directions or suggestions on how to address this problem. Ive looked at YouTube add-ons and none of them really seem related. Upon the finish of the new Mozilla, I also was prompted to upgrade the flash player, and did so without any trouble. I am only guessing this is an extension/plug-in problem. I really am quite confused!

I'm having trouble with a virus or something which affects Google search results when I use Firefox on my PC ...
When I search a topic gives me pages of links as normal, but when I click on a link, the page is hijacked to a site called 'www.goingonearth.com' ...
I've done a separate search and found that other users are affected, but there doesn't seem to be a clear-cut solution ... (Norton, McAfee and Kaspersky don't seem to be able to detect/fix it).
I'd like to continue using the Firefox/Google combination (nb: the hijack virus also affects IE but not Safari) - do you have a patch/fix that could rectify the vulnerability in your software?
thanks''' "... vulnerability in your software?" ''' <br />
And it affects IE, too? Ya probably picked up some malware and you blame it on Firefox.
Install, update, and run these programs in this order. They are listed in order of efficacy.<br />'''''(Not all programs detect the same Malware, so you may need to run them all to solve your problem.)''''' <br />These programs are all free for personal use, but some have limited functionality in the "free mode" - but those are features you really don't need to find and remove the problem that you have.<br />
''Note: If your Malware infection is bad enough and you are mis-directed to URL's other than what is posted, you may have to use a different PC to download these programs and use a USB stick to transfer them to the afflicted PC.''

Hi,
First time poster and very non-techy person here. I am being redirected to urls starting "uk.gomeo..." when clicking on Google search results in Safari. Quick search on this seems to suggest I have a virus. Not sure what to do or how to get rid of it. Not sure what could have caused it either. Downloaded Acrobat update couple of days ago which took hours, and Twitter account was hacked about a week ago. All software updates up to date. Any advice much appreciated.
Thanks.Sorry editing that way doesn't work anymore in Lion. But you can look and see if there are any google entries in it. If there are not any google entries you can ignore my posts. If there are try this:
Open terminal
sudo nano /etc/hosts
When prompted for the sudo password - The correct password is your own (the password of the user logged into OS X, also the password you provide when doing system updates and so on).
now you can delete the line(s) that contain google and save.
Using your arrow keys go to the line containing google. Delete the line. Do the same for all lines containig google.
if you have a problem deleting, do a control-x to exit, and reply n to the modified buffer question. To save your changes do a control-o and hit enter , then do a control-x to quit.
Note: normally you never edit the hosts file, but if you see google entries in it then a malware programs has added them. It has been happening with a bogus flash update, that installs flash and asks for your system password. SOmething that seem quite normal when installing software. This bogus flash update makes the hosts modifications adding their own IP adrress for google. -

It is always found my webpage have been redirected to other web pages at its browser background (until I need to check the cookies so that I can be able to know where it have been redirected to at its background (hidden) after browsing websites). For example, in a simple demonstration, during the google search or going to my email account, it always goes to youtube at its background even though there has been a warning showing on the firefox page during the browse. However, the time allowed me to response is always too short, just one or 2 seconds. Even I have already clicked to stop it (not clicked "allowed" but "X"), it still was redirected.
Could you try disabling all extensions on the following page unless you know them to be both safe and essential:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Add-ons > Extensions category
Also, check whether you have an unexpected proxy setting:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Advanced > Network > "Settings" button -
I have enabled the add on again to find the web page it directs me to...
http://www.landing.savetubevideo.com/
This is the page it takes me to when I try to log into Photobucket.
I did install a Youtube downloader from SaveTubeVideo but un-installed it. The Search Results Optimizator must have been installed at the same time. But it does not give you an option to remove it, only to disable it.Hi TwoSheds,
System-installed extensions can't be uninstalled from Firefox. Instead you can find and remove this application from Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs.
However, disabling an add-on renders it fully inert; it isn't loaded at all and can't do anything. -
Youtube app - limited search results
When searching for YouTube videos within the YouTube app, I get fewer results a lot of the time, particularly when searching for "official" music videos. My example: search for "la roux in for the kill" on the YouTube site (either on your desktop or on Safari on the iPhone). The top result is the official video posted by "polydor". Click on it and it plays in the iPhone YouTube app. The same search in the YouTube app misses out this result.
The same problem was raised [here|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9853961] but the answer doesn't apply to this issue. I can view the official La Roux video in the YouTube app, I just can't search for it there.
As it seems to happen mostly to music videos, is it something to do with the access the record labels want to grant?Hi
Have you figured it out yet? It took me a minute to figure out, you need to swipte until you hear
until it says the name of the app and gives app developer and rating then when you wipe again it will say the price, when I swipe to the right after that, it moves to the next app. This is on ios 7, I believe it worked differently on ios 6 and below. I wish there a way to change the search results into a list view.
Hope this helps
Thanks

Possible virus? Google search results links hijacked
I'm trying to understand a new problem I have run into with my iPad. Recent google searches have not been able to direct me to the link given by google. Almost all results are redirected once they are clicked on. I would understand if these were some of the smaller less reputible websites but this is happening with pages like Cnet. Has anyone else run into these problems?
When you say redirected do you mean you first get an almost black page that say something like site has moved and fi you do not get automatically redirected click here?
Does the redirection get you to the right site?
Have you tried same thing with you computer?
If works OK with computer what is the DNS (address) are you using for both the computer and iPad. If not OK on both what are the DNSs. -

url bar is gone, along with the google search window, I have tried control click in the header space, along with command click, nothing works.Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
* If items are missing then open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"
* If a missing item is in the toolbar palette then drag it back from the Customize window on the toolbar

Do I have to use add-ons or can I use Firefox savely without add-ons?
Can I use Firefox savely without add-ons? If not, how will I know which add-ons are needed? How save are the add-ons? What if an add-on contains a bug or a mistake? Will I get updates automatically?
Add-ons are optional. I find some of them incredibly useful, but you probably will end up with different ones that suit your needs or interests.
If the add-ons are installed from the Mozilla Add-ons site, then they are checked for updates on a regular basis.
Some add-ons will have bugs or cause conflicts with other add-ons or web sites. You can see the evidence of that on this forum, especially after major upgrades... All that flexibility makes Firefox harder to support, but everyone wants choice. :-)
I should add that much of the web does not work correctly with the Adobe Flash plugin, so maybe that one isn't so optional. -

The browser opens random tabs both while I am using and will start on a random tab while I do not have it running.
With the multitude of issues you have I would take it to an Apple store or AASP and have them sort it out. Then I would sign up for Apple camp or one on one.
