Is it possible to have iTunes installed in my computer and use it to play music which is installed on an external drive ?
To save space on my internal Hard Drive , I am trying to find a way so , iTunes can be installed on my computer's internal drive but the music files to be in an external drive. When I want to listen to music , to be able to select where the iTunes will read music files from ( Inetrnal or external drive ). I couldn't do that since iTunes wants to import the music files prior to playing them.
I typed "move itunes library" into the search bar at the top of this page by "Support and found:

I have it installed on an external harddrive, and now every time I try to run it, it starts an 'Autoplay' loop where the system scans ALL THE FILES on the harddrive, and then says: "This Disk or Device contains more than one type of content. What do you want Windows to do?"
I'm attemting a 'Repair' to see if I can fix it, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Also, please note, prior to running through the autoplay loop, it opens for all of 15 seconds before it quits with no messages.
Message was edited by: mrojas15707This is sometimes caused by a problem with the iTunesPrefs.xml file, normally found at C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunesPrefs.xml. Try dragging this to the desktop and trying again.
Alternatively the problem may be that you have McAfee AV and it is preventing iTunes from updating the same file and thus causing the problem. See Why does iTunes delete my itunesprefs.xml? for details.

Are you sure that's what the error message says? Can you provide a screenshot of it?
If it says you don't have enough privileges, it's because you are on a guest-style account. Contact your system administrator for support on that, or change into an administrator account to install Firefox. -
I have had itunes for a couple of years and now all of the sudden I don't. I have submitted several attempts to try and get it back on my Windows XP and no luck. I have purchased a dang Pc 3212 help that just cost me 35$ and that didn't work and I've rebooted, system restore and none of it is working. I'm to mad right now and i just want the darn thing fixed and I am getting so frustrated, this is one thing that I look forward to getting new music and now I have a 25$ Itunes card that I can't even use and why I don't know what else to do. If your library was working on your computer and then popped up empty all of a sudden then this might be what you need...
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

If your phone is in recovery mode (You see the iTunes graphic on the phone), you MUST connect the device to a computer and restore the operating system. There is no supported way to get around it. The device had a problem installing the update and it crashed. Sorry.

I have photoshop installed on my external drive.
I had put photoshop on my old computer from the external drive so i didn't have to carry that big thing around. But now...I can't seem to install photoshop to my new computer. it won't even run. It says something about Error: 1. Help?
Download the installer for the version of Photoshop you have a licence for and install Photoshop using the download and your serial or subscription sign in. Photoshop should be installed on your Boot disk....

Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device. Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.

HELP, I have Itunes installed on two hard drives, need to consolidate!
I moved Itunes to a new hard drive on my computer a while ago (I didn't do it properly and it's been a headache ever since). When I downloaded the new version of Itunes it was installed on my main hard drive by default. All the music I had before is still on the new hard drive but since I've installed the latest version of itunes all the music I've loaded onto Itunes has been stored in my main drive. I now want to download the latest version of Itunes but do it on my new hard drive, but how do I do that and keep my playlists the way I already have them set up AND transfer the music that's on my main drive onto my new drive and keep everything in Itunes from changing?

SeanIt is hard to tell exactly what the problem is from your description.
I think you have two hard drives in one computer. It is normal to install iTunes on the system drive, this doesn't stop you having music on the other drive.
The important thing is the location of the iTunes Music folder. This is set up in:
Edit>Properties>Advanced>General
My guess is that when you installed iTunes, it defaulted to setting the iTunes Music folder on your system drive.
It is hard to tell you what to do without knowing a little more.
Is the music on your new drive in your library? And what is the current setting for you iTunes Music folder? -
I had my iPod set up and everything then when I hooked or up to my computer iTunes told me that my iPod could not be read and that I needed to restore it, so I did that and after when i plugged it into iTunes and selected the songs that I wanted to put on my iPod and clicked sync it started to sync but right when it gets to the end it goes blank and says choose your songs/playlists once again and I have to start all over. What am I doing wrong?? Help me , I neded my music!!

The sync is one way - computer to ipod. The exception is itunes purchases: File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer. -

Well, I am attending Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA. I am an online student receiving my BFA. Afew months ago I received my Associates degree in Internet Specialist/Web Design at another college where I live. I just started at AAU so the only classes I've had so far are Illustrator and a design theory class. Well, the Illustrator class we've created many different things, from 3D characters(which is the assignment he had to cancel cause none of us had atleast 8GB of RAM), we've used live paint, messed with different brushes and symbols and vectors and all. We haven't gotten into the "Web Design" portion yet in this college. But from my other degree, I had to take C+, Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver, PHP, HTML, XHTML, CSS, we worked with Linux, Notepad++, and many other things. I absolutely love my Web Design career I have chosen and it's even better since I started at AAU.
As far as the books, I haven't really used my books in these classes because he puts up video tutorials and lessons for all of us to download and watch. -
Help!! What's going wrong here. I used to have iTunes installed on this computer but lost it when it crashed. I've tried re-installing it numerous times but I keep getting the same error message. "Error writing to file: C:\ProgramFiles\iTunes.Resources\es.lproj\iPadLicense.rtf. Verify that you have access to that directory." I know I have access to that directory because on a different computer I can sync my iPad and iPhone. What am I doing wrong? What do I need to go in and authorize or turn on? That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.

Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards? -
I have just bought a new computer and downloaded the latest version of itunes. It has all installed fine, but when I plug my ipod and sync it, the music library shows all the songs and videos that are on there, but won't let me play them. Also, I can't add any new songs to the same library. It saves them elsewhere. I have had the previous version on another computer and it worked just fine. I have been online trying to find an answer but nothing. Hope someone can help me. Thanks
Installing iTunes does not cause content to magically appear on the computer.
Your media is only where you put it.
iOS devices are not backup devices.
Copy the media from the old computer to the new computer.
