Is it possible to import photos directly into iMovie from a folder on the HD

I would like to use iMovie to create slide shows of still photos but can't can't seem to see how to import photos from a file on my HD.  I don't use iPhoto because of the number of photos I have and the way they are organized on the HD (moved from a PC).  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you can do this.
Open a Finder window to the photos you want. Select the ones you want to move into your project. Then drag and drop into your project.
My only warning is that they should be in a folder location that is stable. If you move or rename these photos later in the Finder, iMovie will not be able to find them and your project will be broken.

On Windows open the Organizer and from the menu click:
    File >> Watch Folders
Then check the radio button for automatic.

Hi Appleman - thanks for your guidance.
OK RealTime Inspector: Dimensions of my clips - as I don't know which bit this is I will list everything under Inspector, including Format:
    00117
    00117
    33.30
    Format:MPEG-4 Video, 1280 x 720 millions
    AAC, 2channels, 44100Hz
    FPS29.97
    Data Size2.57GB
    Data Rate 10.20 Mbits/s
    Current size 1280 x 720 pixels (Actual)
And re the types of tracks you mention that iMovie '08 can't import, I don't much about film clips so haven't yet made sense of this, tho I do see that the clips are organised into chapters, so presumably this is 'chapter tracks'?
Thanks - I'll await your further instructions :-)

  • Importing Photo's into imovie

Ello Everyone ... Having previously compiled 2 projects with photographs in imovie with no problems. I am now attempting a 3rd. However, when trying to import photo's from iphoto into imovie I find they wont go for some reason? I have around 90 photos on the project I want to create and all the pics are in iphoto, but only 10 show up in the imovie photo browser and not all 90 of them, why is this please? The 10 that do show in the browser are OK and will drag to my project. Why wont they all show though, they are all same format, size etc. Also, having read on here that you can drag photos from your pics folder in the finder options without going through the iphoto ... well this wont work for me either and only the 10 or so pics already in imovie will allow to be dragged, all others wont?
Hope you can understand this, as I confuse myself sometimes. Any help is greatly appreciated as I am new to MAC.
    Many thanks x

    C. Using Your own material from previously done DVDs
    • Put DVD in DVD-player and connect a miniDV tape Camera and copy
    • Or use a program that can back engineer to streamingDV that iMovie or FCE/P can use
I prefere Roxio Toast™ to do this

  • Possible To Import Video Files into iMovie and Retain Their Chapter Marking

I've a couple of videos I'd like to use in an iMover for which I've already created chapter markers for in GarageBand. Is there any way to bring them into iMovie when I import the video?

No. iMovie cannot import files with chapter markers.

  • Can not import video clips into iMovie from Photos

I have some clips that I copied from my GoPro to my iPad via the Apple Camera Connection Kit.  When I open iMovie there are icons for the clips but iMovie will not import them.  The format is H.264.  Is there a way of tricking iMovie?

Here is the problem, Im making a movie, I took all the video on my Kodak V610 Camera. I have the clips in .mov format. The clips are stored on an external disk in my iPhoto library.
Your digital camera probably uses MPEG-4 video (compatible with iMovie '08 in combination with µ-Law 2:1 compressed audio (which is not iMovie '08 compatible). While using the MPEG Streamclip MPEG-4 conversion will work, the prefered methof would be to use the QT "Movie to MPEG-4" option in QT Pro (quicker if you have it) or GarageBand (via the "Expert Settings option) to "pass through" you video while converting the audio to AAC (MPEG-4 audio). A mono setting of 64 Kbps with a 44.1 KHz sampling rate is a bit of "overkill" with respect to the original audio but will be quality compatible with what iMovie uses for its output presets.

  • Importing .mod files into iMovie from JVC Everio

Just bought a JVC GZ-MZ 255 camcorder which produce MPEG-2 .mod files. I have a ibook G4 with 10.4 OS and iLife '06 (contains imovie). Shouldn't imovie recognize the camera when hooked an automatically import? I have a feeling that streamclip might come into play - but is there another option? Anyone have experiece with this? Thanks!

    Hi Brady,
I have a new Everio HD that I have been fooling with all day. Finally got a clip into iMovie 6 ....but only once and I'm still figuring this out too.....if you are not using a HD camera this may or may not work for you.
The Everio Quicktime extension must be installed. (Download and install the patch if you upgrade to Leopard).
Is your camera an HD? If so you need to capture the clip in 1440 CDR not FHD (FullHighDef).
Launch iMovie 6. Create a new movie in Video format HDV 1080i . then plug in your camera via firewire.
Put the camera in playback mode (Play/REC), press the Function, select Dubbing Playback (bottom of the menu). You should get a menu with a start button now. Switch to iMovie 6 and select "Import". This should start the clip playing from the camera....you may have to hit the Start on the camera.
This should get your clips into i Movie.
We may be ably to create playlists and get them in that way too but I have not had any luck with the JVC instructions to do this. There are video tutorials on the JVC website too but again they have not worked for me.
There is also a way to get and work the FHD files but that is a USB file transfer followed by a file conversion. I'll tackle that a little later...
    Good luck,
    Roger

  • Why doesn't iPhone have the options to import photos directly in Windows 8 like in Windows 7?

It used to be able to import photos directly into the same folder as the photos are synced under "Last Import" back in Windows 7. But now in windows 8, I have to use Dropbox to import photos, yet Dropbox doesn't have the options to erase photos already imported.
    Any solutions?

    Hi,
I tried replicating your issue at my end on Safari v5.1.7 and when i navigated to http://www.bmc.org/cancer-center.htm > downloads > cancer support services newsletter , it prompts me to 'open', 'save' or 'cancel' the file.
When i open it opens properly in Acrobat 9 Pro. And after saving it if I try to open with Reader X, it works perfectly fine with me.
Try resetting safari, by clicking on the 'gear' icon at the top right corner i.e. tools > Reset safari. It will pop up a new window, if possible keep all the options checked and reset safari. Then retry opening the link and it should work fine.
Let me know if that helped or not.
    Regards,
    Ravi

  • Trouble importing video into iMovie from External HD

I have video from my Panasonic Full HD camera.  I have already transferred the video off the camera and onto an external hard drive.  When I try to import the video into iMovie those files are grayed out.  Does anyone have any idea how to make this work?
It is all my video of my son's first year since birth!

It is very important that when you transferred the video off the camera, you kept all files and folders from the camera. If you did, you can open iMovie and use FILE/IMPORT FROM CAMERA ARCHIVE and navigate to the folder that contains the contents that you removed from the camera.
In the future, open iMovie and use FILE/IMPORT FROM CAMERA. This will bring up an import screen. There you can click a button that says Create Camera Archive. This will automatically get you all the files you need off the camera, and it gives you a good backup.
You can also import directly into iMovie from this screen.
If you did not preserve the contents of the camera - for example, you just copied the .mts files, but did not copy the rest of the files and folders, you will need a third party app to convert the .mts files so that iMovie can read them. Two apps that people use for this are ClipWrap and Voltaic HD. They are pricey, but if you did not copy the full camera contents, this may be your best bet.

  • Import .VOB files into iMovie?

I have copied footage from my camera (don't have that tapes anymore!) to a DVD. Now I want to import the files into iMovie to edit and so but iMovie doesn't recognize the file-formats on my DVD: .VOB
Can anyone tell me how I can convert these files so I can import them?
    Thank you very much...

Ok I was right, the stretching is coming from importing it directly into imovies folder. Unfortunately when I drag the dv file into imovies the quality was not as good as HB.
Now trying the crop method directly into imovies to see if that fixes the stretching as the picture quality seemed much better, if that don't work I'll save it to my desktop using HB at 100% quality as that seems to be the best and then drag it into imovies quality.
How, if it was you, would you convert the files back to mpeg2? Is there a free converter as I don't have QT pro? Will SC do it in good quality?
I also thought (hate to use the pc word) but I may store the file in my external hard drive as a quicktime or divx or another format (what will give me the best quality from the other formats) and then do the conversion to mpeg2. Then use something like dvdshrink to make the file dvd size
Gees what a bummer man! Just as well I have 2 weeks off work. Not quite the way I was hoping to spend it though!

  • I'm trying to import an imovie back into imovie from a dvd

I'm trying to import a moive into imoves froma advd. The dvd contains an imovie I created. I need it back into the computer

It can't really be done. DVD is a compressed format that doesn't lend itself to further editing. You can possibly use Handbrake or similar tools to convert the DVD to a format that can be re-imported into iMovie. But you will lose picture quality, and there's no way to get back the transitions, subtitles, etc in any editiable form.

  • Importing mov files into iMovie events

    Hi
This is my first post ever on this site. Here goes!
I am new to iMovie, but have had someone more experienced trying to help but to no avail!
I am trying to import mov files into iMovie Events. However in the file menu there is no "events' option, so I chose 'Import Movies'. But ultimately when I click on the mov files they are greyed out.
The version of iMovie I have is iMovie '08 - 7.1.4
When I first opened iMovie it offered to update to the latest version, but in the end it said 'No updates available'. When I looked into this in the Apple Store, it said you need Mac OSX 10.7 or above to get the latest version. My Mac is 10.6.8, so won't support the latest version. However, can I not still use the version I have? What is wrong here?
Any help much appreciated - thanks.
    Ermina.

If you don't get an answer here, you might want to post your question in the iMovie discussion here.

  • How do I scan photos directly into my edit portion of my photoshop elements 9 for Mac?

I can't find out how to scan my photos  directly into my photoshop elements9 for mac.  I see the drop down for camera and videos, but there isn't a category for scanners.  Help please.

On windows ther is an additional choice other than Frame from Video under:
File >> Import >> WIA Support
If you scanner needs TWAIN support you will have copy the Import Modules folder. See this link:
