Is it possible to install an OCZ 60gig sata3 ssd in my late 2006 macbook?

Hi, im a novice mac user and I just picked up a late 2006 macbook off ebay and I couldn't help but wonder if there is some way to remove the 120gig 5400rpm sata2 drive it came with for a nice modern OCZ vertex III 60gig sata3 SSD WITHOUT rendering the laptop unstable or otherwise unreliable as im not interested in my non-gaming computer failing at random. Also how would I go about transfering everything from the current hard drive to the new SSD if its even possible for me to install one? Its specs are 1.5 gigs 667 MHz DDR2 ram, 2 GHz Core duo(OCed if this matters), OSx 10.6.8. Thanks.

Your MacBook has a SATA I interface not SATA II. SATA is supposed to be backwards compatible but not all drives play nice with all computers and I don't know about OCZ's SATA III working on a Mac with SATA I. Unless you already have the drive I would recommend a look at OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/ They're a Mac specialist that can sell you a SATA II drive for reasonable that is guaranteed to work with your MacBook.

  • I replaced my hard drive on my late 2006 Macbook Pro.  I tried to do a reinstall of Tiger 10.4.5 from my start up disk.  I get an error that states "can't install on this computer." HELP

I replaced my hard drive on my late 2006 Macbook Pro.  I used the disk utility and erased the drive and formatted it to OSX Journaled .  When I tried to install the OS from the start up disks I got the error "Can't install on this computer.  I have verified the drive.
I have used Super Duper to copy my old drive to my new drive.  But I wanted to do a fresh install.  How do I go about this?

Did you do the Super Duper clone before you tried to reinstall the OS? If so, the original install disc is likely earlier than 10.4.11, and that may be why you are getting the message.
When trying to reinstall the OS, did you select the "Archive and Install" option? If not, you might try that. Here's a link that might help:

  • Can I install Windows 7 off a usb on my late 2011 MacBook Pro?

Is there any way to boot off a windows 7 usb install disk?

"Generic" OEM is full verion, minus the "install as many times as you want" option.  Usually after 3 different CPUs you need to beg MS to reactivate OEM.
What you cannot do is install an OEM designed for a specific machine (a set from a Dell or a Asus or Toshiba).  Those install disks have ONLY device drivers and setups for those specific machines.

  • Cannot install Snow Leopard on late 2006 MacBook

I have been trying to perform an erase and reinstall of this machine for my daughter to use.  The ram had been upgraded to 2GB, and my son had it partitioned to run Windows also.  There was never any problem with the machine -- I just bought him a new MacBook Pro last year.
So - I have successfully performed the "erase" part - but Snow Leopard (from retail discs - that this machine had been upgraded to) will not complete installation.  I have gotten as far as "28 minutes remaining" and then it hangs up - spinning beachball - etc.. I hear the drive start up, and then stop, over and over.
I booted from the disc and ran the Disk Utility - and it shows that the hard drive is working properly.
And of course Apple says that they do not support machines over 5 years old (something to that effect).
Any help anyone can provide is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance,
    Kim

Ok - so I am back into Disk Utility (booted from disk and selected disk utility).  There are 2 hard drive icons on the left hand side ' 60.01 GB Toshiba, and then below it (indented) "Untitled".
The 60GB Toshiba is your entire boot hard drive, the "Untitled" below it is a partition on that drive if it's indented or else it's the optical drive.
What you want to do is select the "60GB toshiba" and click Erase, then Security Option > Zero All Data and click Erase, this will map off any bad sectors that old drive might have. Will take some time so wait about a hour.
(Ideally it would be good to replace it with a newer/larger one)
Install/upgrade RAM or storage drive in Mac's
Once that is complete you head to Partition: Select 1 Option: GUID and Format: OS X Extended Journaled, give the drive a name and click "Apply"
Now your drive is formatted, quit Disk Uitlity and select the drive and install OS X 10.6.
Once it's completed reboot and setup, enter your wifi/network and get online and Apple menu Software update until clear.
The machine is ready to use.

  • I installed an SSD in my optical bay, is it possible to install Windows 8 in that drive?

[15" late 2011 MBP with preinstalled 8GB of RAM and 128GB of SSD]
To the goddesses of this community:
Here's the deal. Although I love OS X, but let's be realistic, there are some softwares out there only run on Windows
Therefore, I am planning to buy an OCZ Vector 256GB SSD, transfer the OS X and all other files from the preinstalled 125GB SSD to the new OCZ Vector SSD.
Then, install the new OCZ SSD in the hard drive bay.
After that, wipe my old 128GB SSD, swap out my optical drive and install my old 128GB SSD in its place.
Here's the critical part: I plan to install Windows 8 on my 128GB SSD which is currently empty and sitting in the optical bay.
I have read some past posts saying it is not possible since 1. Boot Camp only allows Windows to be installed in the same SSD OS X is installed in. 2. You can not install Windows using Boot Camp Assistant without an internal optical drive.
I wish to know it the above infomation is still true. If not, how to install Windows 8 in my new SSD?
    Thank you very much!

A couple of things to note - first, you can't use Boot Camp to install Win8 on any drive except yoru start-up drive. Second, you'd want the SSD to be in the main HD bay, not the optical bay, if you plan to use it as a bootable OS X device.

  • Windows 8 possible to install on HP Pavilion h8-1030nl

Hi, I would like to know whether it is possible to install windows 8(.1) on my desktop computer HP Pavilion h8-1030nl ?
    thanks for answers

There is a program that will test your entire system. Be sure to have every device connected, and powered. It will analyze everything connected, and all your installed sofware.  Neat huh?? So here goes, and enjoy.   The program.
Now the question to you.  WHY?   Windows 8/8.1 is under so much turmoil.  WIN9 has been scrapped.   I suggest you google "WIN 10"  and read all about it.   It's a better scenerio. More on it later, for sure.   See here.

  • Is it possible to install previous TRIAL versions of previous versions of Adobe Creative Cloud Software?

Look, I'm just testing the trial versions right now.  Don't try to troubleshoot something that I don't ask; this is what I'm looking to accomplish:
Is it possible to install a trial version of any of the Adobe Creative Cloud software in a previous version?  By that, I am referring to the following:
I want to install a trial version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014; NOT Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014.1.  If you notice, I want to reinstall a trial version of the previous release.  Don't ask why, you'll just laugh for my stupid reason, but I'm merely wondering if it is possible.  Creative Cloud now only offers trials of the newest versions, and I want to install trails of previous versions for my own, personal reasons.  Is this possible to do with creative cloud, or must I do it some other way?
Is it also possible to obtain the physical installation files so that I won't have to always go through creative cloud to download them again (and then I can just set it up without being connected to the internet)?

A Cloud subscription provides for installing working installations on two machines.  You can have mixed operating systems (both Windows and Apple's OX).

Hi Carolyn, thanks for your quick reply. First thing I did before posting my question was to check the system requirements for Creative Suite, both on Apple and Adobe's websites. But I am however confused about the difference between "Multicore Intel processor" vs "Core 2 Duo", and keep hearing stories about CS5 not working properly.
