Is it possible to install an SMTP proxy that will handle splitting group mail?
I am running OS X 10.9.3 with Server 3.1.2 on a Mac-Mini Mid-2012. I learned on my last implementation of OS X 10.9.3 that Mavericks sometimes has issues with handling group mail. As I rebuild my network, I am wondering if it is possible to install a SMTP proxy that can receive, process, then forward mail on to the primary mail server.
For example, if mail is sent to a group account, this SMTP proxy would repackage the message as a message to a carbon copy list of all the group members, but if the mail is sent to a user account, the mail is forwarded unmodified. Like this:
As an alternative to this, I would also be interested a solution in which the Linux Mail Server referenced the Open Directory for account information, including password authentication, so that if a user in the Mac Network updates his password, that he can use the same password to access his mail on a webmail client or via the Mail.app.
This is a callout for discussion points, ideas and recommendations. There is no problem here to fix necessarily.
I am not aware of a tool to do the group splitting for you, this is normally the responsibility of the mail server itself.
However with regards to your second query, a lot of people use a product called Kerio Connect instead of Apple's Mail server. Kerio can run on the same Mac server but in general is a far more powerful mail server. It does include the ability to authenticate user accounts against Open Directory.
There is one issue you need to be aware of, like nearly all mail servers it uses the 'username' as the main email address, so if you want an email account of [email protected] then your Open Directory short name need to be jsmith, if you want your email address to be [email protected] then your user short name needs to be john.doe and so on.
Note: While I have specifically talked about Kerio most other mail server including those for Linux would be able to link to Open Directory via LDAP and authenticate email accounts. The same link between email address and short name would usually apply.

I installed an SSD in my optical bay, is it possible to install Windows 8 in that drive?
[15" late 2011 MBP with preinstalled 8GB of RAM and 128GB of SSD]
To the goddesses of this community:
Here's the deal. Although I love OS X, but let's be realistic, there are some softwares out there only run on Windows
Therefore, I am planning to buy an OCZ Vector 256GB SSD, transfer the OS X and all other files from the preinstalled 125GB SSD to the new OCZ Vector SSD.
Then, install the new OCZ SSD in the hard drive bay.
After that, wipe my old 128GB SSD, swap out my optical drive and install my old 128GB SSD in its place.
Here's the critical part: I plan to install Windows 8 on my 128GB SSD which is currently empty and sitting in the optical bay.
I have read some past posts saying it is not possible since 1. Boot Camp only allows Windows to be installed in the same SSD OS X is installed in. 2. You can not install Windows using Boot Camp Assistant without an internal optical drive.
I wish to know it the above infomation is still true. If not, how to install Windows 8 in my new SSD?
Thank you very much!A couple of things to note - first, you can't use Boot Camp to install Win8 on any drive except yoru start-up drive. Second, you'd want the SSD to be in the main HD bay, not the optical bay, if you plan to use it as a bootable OS X device.

So yeah, I've built myself a killer tool for PC's. And in my search for a nice way to distribute this must-have tool, I am considering using the Istore. Hence, my question.
What I am looking for is a simple App, and all it does is put this .jar file on the users PC. And maybe activate it too, so that the user doesnt have to double click it. And OK, maybe first check whether the user's got java installed, and otherwise prompt him to do so.
Would this be possible? Is there anyone who would like to do this for me? If so I'd be glad to hear at what cost?
Regards,
OlivierSince the only connection between the PC and the iPhone is through iTunes, no.

Silent install of acrobat 9 that will prompt for serial number
I need to roll out a number of client computers from Dell using their Image Direct program. We order an acrobat license with each computer and when we get the computer from Dell with the Dell image it comes pre-installed with acrobat 9 and the first time you run the program it prompts you for the serial which is on the acrobat cd that is included. I would like to replicate that with the custom image we put on there to load at the factory.
Currently with our imaging setup I replicated that by installing with a serial number then deactivating and removing the serial number before imaging. When we restored the image and started acrobat 9 it again prompted for the serial which allowed us to put in the unique serial number that comes with the computer.
I don't have that option with Image Direct as I can't pre-install acrobat due to virtual drivers so the only way to add it to image is to upload a silent install package and scipt it to install during the image build. This means I don't have a chance to deactivate the serial number used for install before it gets to end user.
Is there a way around this without going to enterprise licensing and being able to use the same serial number on all installs? It sounds like you are trying to use a retail serial as an enterprise serial and would like to bypass it's restrictions by deactivating it . . . I assume that's not possible, but perhaps I don't understand your issue.
I doubt you'll get a good answer on the forum. Try support, your sales rep, or a help link on the licensing web site (if there is one).

I have a printer installed on other machine that will not add osx lion.
I have 2 machines - both running osx Lion
Laptop has drivers installed fro a HITI 510s printer - iMac does not. When I try to add drivers via software the drivers do not show up in System Prefs (print & scan) panel.
I can add the printer via Bonjour - but need to be able to print if laptop is off
Can I copy drivers from laptop to iMac?Printer drivers are often stored in /Library/Printers. Check if there is a HITI folder here and if so you can copy this folder across. Then when you add the printer, in the Print Using menu you can select Other and then browse to this folder for the PPD.

I want to show stuff in a PDF that will automatically not 'print' from Illustrator.
For example create a colour to make shapes and text that you can read from the saved PDF but will not print once the PDF is printed out
Thanksfrom illustrator you could put stuff on a template layer (check 'Template' in layer options), but then it would only be visible on the illustrator side; opened in Acrobat the layer would be invisible.
you could do it from Acrobat Pro though. have 'Create Acrobat layers from top-level layers' checked in the PDF save options, then open in Acrobat and look in the layer properties (this is from Acrobat Pro 9): -
Is is possible to install a second (SSD) drive in a DV6
Hi folks,
I was wondering if it is possible to install a second SSD hard drive in my HP DV6 i7? The current hard drive is 500GB but if there was space I was wondering about the possibility of installing a small SSD that would contain the OS to speed up boot time or one that contained my programs so they opened faster. I don't like the price of a 500GB SSD!!
My laptop spec is:
DV6 with a Intel Core i7 720QM @ 1.60Ghz
8GB DDR3 ram
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit
Thanks
Steviewell you have two options you can use a hybrid hdd like the seagate drive
http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/laptops/laptop-hdd/
or if the cdrom is not that improtant to you you can replace it with an extra hdd using this caddy

i have ipod touch purchase 3 years back is it possible to install latest version in that ipod touch
Check this Apple site:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1358
It tells you the devices supported for which the latest iOs 4.3.3 is available. At the very least, if you are not clear on whether or not your iPod is 3rd generation, then attach it to your computer, launch iTunes; select your device from the side bar and click "Update" on the Summary page. That will tell you if your iPod is eligible for the update. -

Is it possible to install a consumer app for mass usage that would alter the ios device proxy settings? Over the air not supervised. Can an app company use an MDM server to do this if the customer consents?
HI Chris,
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Could you expand on your answer, which bit is very doubtful?
Also in your knowledge would Apple work with a company and license it if the software they were developing was desired by consumer demand?
Thanks

Hi all: We are still rocking with a BorderManager 3.9 sp2 server. I have had to move all our gateways from the BM server to our internal GW 8.0.2 server.
I have setup our BM server to act as a SMTP proxy, and it appears to be excepting incoming email just fine. The problem I am having is to get GWIA to "talk" to the BM SMTP proxy to retrieve these email. I was hoping someone here had done this in the past and could help me out.
Thanks, Chris.Originally Posted by Chris
Thanks for the reply. I had the smtp proxy setup properly as I could see it receiving data (BM proxy screen). I could even send out outgoing email without issue. The problem was in receiving the proxied email. The GWIA was setup pointing to the private IP address of the BM server per Novell's documentation.
Had to abandon ship and go back to the old system with GWIA installed on the BM server in a secondary domain. I am a little disappointed that I could not get it working.
Thanks again, Chris.
Chris,
Sorry to hear that you could not get it to work (IP address issue maybe?) But glad that you had a back out plan. You may want to also try posting this in the GroupWise forum.
