iTunes match won't automatically remove content from your computer, if you want to do that you will need to do it manually yourself.

  • Can I have both Lion and Snow Leopard on One Hard Drive?

My problem is I need to run a PowerPC game on Lion which Lion no longer supports. So i thought i could download Snow Leopard back to my Mac and partiition my hard drive in the process as that is the only way i know of to have both Lion and Snow Leopard. I went through the Boot Camp Asistant process and it seems it will only partition Windows 7 to my Mac when i need Snow Leopard. If anyone has any idea how to help me have both Lion and Snow Leopard at the same time on just one hard drive or figure out how to run the PowerPC programs on my Mac (if there is a way around it). The help will be well appreciated!

How To Run Snow Leopard On A New Mac
This does not apply to new Mac Minis or MacBook Airs. When newer models are introduced that also require Lion for hardware support, the techniques described below will no longer work with the possible exception of using Parallels 7.
    What has to be done:
Create a new partition on the hard drive.
Get a clone of a 10.6.8 Snow Leopard system. Put the cloned Snow Leopard system onto the new partition.
Step One: Create a new partition on the hard drive
To resize the drive and create a new partition do the following:
    1.    Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
After the main menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the hard drive's main entry then click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    2.   You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
    3.    In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for each partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and move the bottom of the rectangle upwards until you have reduced the existing partition enough to create the desired new volume's size. The space below the resized partition will appear gray. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.  (Note: You can only make a partition smaller in order to create new free space.)
    4.   Click on the [+] button below the sizing window to add a new partition in the gray space you freed up. Give the new volume a name, if you wish, then click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a new volume on the drive.
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss.  Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work.
Step Two: Obtain a clone of a Snow Leopard system:
You will need access to a Mac already running Snow Leopard. You will need a 16 GB USB flash drive or an external hard drive to which you can clone the Snow Leopard system from the Mac that has Snow Leopard installed. Alternatives are:
    Option One:
Install a new Snow Leopard system onto a USB flash drive. Boot the Mac used for installing with the USB flash drive. Update the flash drive system to 10.6.8 using the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard. Verify that you can boot the Mac with the USB flash drive.
Take the USB flash drive to your new Mac and try booting from it. If it works then clone the system from the flash drive to the newly made partition:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the new partition on the internal drive. Source means the USB flash drive.
    Option Two:
If you have a large enough external drive you can erase and use, then it would be easier to just clone the entire Snow Leopard system from the source Mac computer to the external drive.
Destination means the external drive. Source means the Snow Leopard Mac's internal drive.
After cloning verify that it will boot the source Mac. If so then take the external drive to your new Mac boot with it. If all is well then restore the clone to the new partition on your new Mac:
Restore the clone using Disk Utility
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the new partition on the internal drive. Source means the external drive.
If the above seems too daunting then you might consider running Snow Leopard inside an emulator such as Parallels 7. You are permitted to install a single copy of Snow Leopard inside a virtual machine. You will need to first purchase a copy of Parallels 7 and install it on your new Mac. Create a new virtual machine configured for Mac OS X. You may then install Snow Leopard in the virtual machine then download Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 and update to 10.6.8. Be sure to include Rosetta in your initial Snow Leopard installation. Rosetta is not installed by default rather it's an optional install.

  • Possible to install both iMovie4 and 5?

I had another post about problems importing films into iMovie HD but haven't come up with any solutions yet. Now I'd like to know if there's any way to replace iMovie HD with 4 (without having to downgrade the rest of iLife) or preferably have both versions of iMovie installed on the same laptop. That way I can see if 4 will solve my problem.
    Anyone know?
    Mark.

    Hello Mark:
Although it is easier to simply keep the original imovie 4 and
    i then
install imovie HD, you can do it the other way around.

  • Is it possible to install Final Cut Pro on a External TB Hard Drive

I would like to buy an external TB drive for my iMac and was wondering if it is possible to just run Final Cut Studio and all of it's apps off of a TB drive?

No. The Final Cut Studio applications must be on the same volume as Mac OS X.
You can put the accompanying content, such as motion templates etc on another drive.

  • Saving source footages and FCP project in EXTERNAL Hard drive

I have ran out of space in my Inbuilt harddrive of the computer....
Now i have got a new project to be done and i have external 1 TB hardrive.....
    So my question:
1.) Can i save the source footages in External HD?
2.) Can i save the project in External HD and edit it and do everything as in External HD?
I have never done such thing so help would be acknowleged.
Thanks and if i am missing any information then do let me know!

    Hi
    YES - BUT
    • External Hard Disk - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted (all mine are journaled)
    • Should be FireWire or Thunderbolt - as USB/USB2 performs badly to me and especially when filling up.
    • I do - create a folder on My external HD named as Movie project + date
    - then Start FinalCut
    - AND set up ALL Scratch disks to this folder
    - then SAVE projects - and direct this to same folder
    - then I also make a folder in this project folder (on ext.HD) named material - and in this I collect all photos, audio-files (all converted to .aiff - NO .mp3 or other) AND all texts in a text document to copy from e.g. Title, contributors etc. SO also a document describing how the project is to be done - sort of synopsis.
    PROBLEM
When changing Scratch-disks in FinalCut Express or Pro (FCP-X i don't know) one must when starting up next time - FIRST CONTROL - where they are set - as they do not orient after project but after last settings. All material and Captures etc - can be stored in a very wrong location IF one doesn't keep this in mind !
MY OWN experience - very tedious to clean up - BUT at least FinalCut Pro can help in collecting in all parts if they go astray.

  • Problem with installing both 32 and 64bit Java7u45

    Hi all.
For some reson we need to install Java7u45 because of an inhouse made application only runs on java7u45 32bit,
Now to my issue, we hava about 200 windows7 x64 machines who need both 32 and 64 bit java7u45.
If i install the 32bit the inhouse appliction works, but then other third party application will not run (SoapUI, Eclipse).
If i install both 64 and 32 bit the inhouse application will not run, i get this error message "NativeSwing[1]: Caused by: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Cannot load 32-bit SWT libraries on 64-bit JVM"
In the Java Control Panel only the 64bit java shows up, and if i try to add javaw.exe from C:\program files (x86)\java\bin it will add the correct line, and i looks ok until i close the java control panel and open it, it will still only show the 64bit java.
So is there anyway to change the default 64bit java to 32bit and make it stick?
    Thank you.

Hi, is there anybody using Eclipse and GWT in arch 64?
I use Eclipse Galileo 64 bit and trying to use GWT I get the error "...wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32 (Possible cause: architecture word width mismatch)..."
Should I nstall bin32-jre from AUR and use it to start a 32 bit version of Eclipse? Is there another way using the 64 bit version of eclipse?

  • Installing both Reader and Acrobat 0 Standard

Is it possible to install both Reader and Acrobat 9 Standard on the same computer?
I want to be able to make sure whatever I produce in Standard will work and open up in Reader or any other PDF viewer someone might use.

    Hi,
I have both the reader and Pro on my computer, however, there are some issues with default actions, such as opening documents.
Is there some kind of guide to setup both reader and Pro on the same computer, just have them do different functions?
    Thanks for your input!

  • Possible to use both Tabular and Multidimentinal with same SharePoint 2013 farm?

I would like to build SharePoint 2013 based reporting portal with Power View as visualization tool.
Is it possible to install both Tabular and Multidimentional to same physical server?
Is it possible that some Power View reports use tabular and others multidimentional?
Could above requirement work in production environment? Anybody tried?
    Kenny_I

    Hi Kenny_I,
According to your description, you are going to create a PowerView report using SQL Server Analysis Services Multidimensional database or SSAS tabular model as data source in SharePoint 2013, now what you want to know is that is it possible to install both
Tabular and Multidimensional to same physical server? And is it possible that some Power View reports use tabular and others Multidimensional?
Of course we can install both Tabular and Multidimensional to same physical server that had SharePoint 2013 installed. In my tested environment, I have installed all of them on the same server. And we can use tabular model and others Multidimensional database
on individual PowerView report. However, it seems that we cannot use both tabular model and others Multidimensional database on the same Powerview report.
Even though we can install both Tabular and Multidimensional to same physical server, however in the production environment, the recommendation is that install them on different server, it will beneficial to troubleshooting the issue when some issue occur
    on the environment.

  • Hello, I have a G5 PPC. I want to install a copy of Entourage on the second hard drive. Can I do that or will it create problems for the processor?

    Hi everyone
I had a very old intel iMac from late 2006 which was dying now dead. I just managed to copy the Entourage folder onto an external hard drive before the iMac gave up the ghost. But I could not open the Entourage copy on the G5 PPC. each time i tried to do so the PPC copy of Entourage would open instead.I have emails on the PPC copy and do not want to lose them. I was wondering if it would be possible to install another copy of Entourage on the second hard drive? I was hoping that by doing that I could access the information from the iMac which has been copied to an external hard drive.
Any help would be very very welcome.

I don't think MS lets you install Entourage outside of an active system folder. However, you can install a fresh copy of Entourage on the G5's hard drive (if you have Office 2008 or lower), then use Entrouge's Import command to move the data files from the old hard drive.
We're done this several times as we've upgraded either computers or Entourage.
However, I think that, before you act, you should also ask in Microsoft's user forums here:
    Office for Mac forums
They are excellent and often an employee of their Macintosh unit will assist in answering.

  • Installing OS X 10.5 on a blank Hard Drive

Is it possible to install mac OS 10.5 on a blank hard drive?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Yes it is. Just insert your 10.5.x install disc and after you select your language select Disk Utility from the menu. Then choose your HDD and click the "Partition" >> "Options" tab then create a single partition as GUID.
Then return to install and install 10.5.

  • Is it possible to install iWork '13 and keep iWork '09 running too?

Is it possible to install iWork '13 and keep iWork '09 running too?
Everyone is saying how 'dumbed down' the new versions of Keynote, Numbers and Pages are...is there a way to test out the new programs without overriding the '09 versions? If I open up the App Store it just says I need to update and I fear this will wipe out iWork '09 completely but I read somewhere it was possible to have both...?

When you download the new iWork IOS versions, the previous versions of iWork applications go into a folder in you Applications Folder called, "iWork '09".  To keep using the old versions with your old files, first start the old applications and then open the file from within the program.  If you double-click your old files they will be opened (and converted) to work with the new applications....and won't be open-able by your old applications afterward.

  • Is it possible to install SharePoint 2013 and SQL 2012 on single Azure Virtual Machine

I had a Azure subscription, I need had created only one Virtual Machine, is it possible to install SharePoint 2013 and SQL Server 2012 on that single virtual machine in azure.
I had SharePoint 2013 and SQL Server 2012 licence from MSDN subscription,
Finally on Azure virtual machine is it possible to Install SharePoint 2013 and SQL server by downloading these software from MSDN.

    Hi,
It is supported to install sharepoint 2013 and SQL server on the same server. However, please check the size of your Azure VM and make sure it is compatible for that.
The minimum recommended size for a virtual machine is A3 when using SQL Server Enterprise Edition. Select A3 or higher when using SQL Server Enterprise Edition. Select A4 when using SQL Server 2012 or 2014 Enterprise Optimized for Transactional Workloads
images. Select A7 when using SQL Server 2012 or 2014 Enterprise Optimized for Data Warehousing Workloads images. In addition, the default size for SharePoint 2013 image is A3.
In addition, as a best practice, you can install them in different servers and then deploy SharePoint 2013 with SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups in Azure:
