Is it possible to install Mac OS X 10.5.x Leopard on a new MacBook ?

I newly purchased a MacBook (White) where it comes with OS X 10.6.4 by default. Is it possible for me to install another OS X 10.5.x if I have an original MacBook (White) OS X Leopard Installation DVD ?

There's one way and proven it works ! For sure there are some pre-requisition...
1. Same model of MacBook which support 10.5.x OS and that MacBook has similar spec which purchased few month early than the new MacBook.
My case...
a. New MBP that doesn't support OS X 10.5.x. "MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2009)"
b. Old MBP that supported OS X 10.5.x "MacBook (13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008)"
2. Create 3 partitions (40GB, 40GB, rest) to both new and old MBP.
3. Create an full backup/image on the old MBP and copy over to the new MBP.
4. Restore the 10.5.x on the new MBP to 2nd partition.
5. Now the new MBP has dual boot to OS X 10.5.x and 10.6.x.
** So far haven't find out any hardware doesn't function on new MBP.
** Used the same way above on two MBW, whereby the new MBW purchased after 6 months++ and the sound card doesn't work.
Try you luck !

  • Can I install Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) on my new MacBook Pro?

Hi all, I'm user of Mac since lot of time and I`ve got a question. I have bought a Macbook Pro on September 2011 and it cames with Lion and no installation disc. Can I downgrade this Macbook Pro with Lion preinstalled to Snow Leopard with SL Retail disc?

Not with a retail disc — it doesn't contain a recent enough version of Snow Leopard to boot the machine. You'll need to obtain duplicates from Apple of the discs that would have been shipped with your machine before the release of Lion. Call Customer Relations at the number below and ask to have them sent to you for a small fee.

    Hi got_jorge,
Sorry, this is not possible, as it is not only a matter of data that you put on the Hard Drive.
    Everything is different:
    CPU, Firmware, Power Management, etc.
It just doesn't work the same way.
    May I suggest?
Sell your computer, so that you can get a Mini and (most probably) don't need to buy a display, as yours should make it with the Mini?
    Sorry.

Is it possible to install Mac Office on an iPad?

The only office programs you can install are the ones in the app store. there's the iWorks suite, but also Documents to Go (which I use) and plenty of other office programs.
I'd suggest that you read the reviews and see which ones look good to you. Personally? I don't touch any app that doesn't have at least 4 stars. Let 'the masses' tell you if it works well or if it's description is just hype.

hello Dahveed, thanks for your reply, i solved it with the help of the migration assistant from another mac - now it works (but before as more info: for my new imac it was not possible to install apple remote desktop from appstore (the install-button not available, the same as installed already...) - and i don't know why...? - is it possible that the reason is the number of owned macs?)

  • Install Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard from USB Drive

My MacBook Pro (Late 2006 15.4-inch 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) has a SuperDrive that does not work.
I wish to re-install Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, as this is the latest DVD I possess, to wipe the HDD prior to selling.  It has Lion installed but this was done via the Mac App store and I don't want to sell with any links to my account or as an authorised computer.
How do I boot the MacBook Pro from a USB stick, wipe the HDD and install Snow Leopard?

You will still need a Mac and a optical drive, a external one will do. To read the disk to put it on a USB, external opticals are not bootable.

It's to do with licensing. If you read the EULA that comes with OSX it tells you about those restrictions.

Quit iTunes, restart your Mac and then restart the iPad and see if the iPad is recognized after that. If not, you can look through these articles.
iOS Device not Recognized in Mac OS X
If you are running Snow Leopard 10.6 ....

  • Can i install snow leopard on my new macbook pro

I'm looking at a new laptop but I understand Adobe CS4 won't work on Lion, so I'd rather install Snow Leopard on the new macbook. Is this possible?

Difficult, and even reported "success" is likely not consistent enough for your *need* for Adobe CS4.
You can try for a unit off the refurbished list (Apple.com > Store, bottom of the left hand margin is the link).  Units from pre-July and last year can be found, and come with warranties just like brand new.

iphoto on my used mac mini will not open my photos from my new macbook air,  it says something about updating the software, but i checked and there arent any updates available... please help

    Sorry for the second post..
I currently do not have an older version of iPhoto to test this on, but you might also try coping the Originals from the iPhoto Library of iPhoto 11.
    To do that;
    1. Right (control) click on the iPhoto Library in the Picture Folder on the MacBook Air
    2. Select Show Package Content.
    3. Click on the Originals Folder
    4. Navigate to the disired Event or photos and copy those images to your Flash or External Drive, then copy those to the older version of iPhoto.
Beware do not move, add or delete anything in the iPhoto Library, Apple has intensionally hidden it in later versions to prevent people from messing things up.
