Is it possible to install SAP PI7.0 on LINUX -FEDORA CORE 8 OS?

Hi all,
I have LINUX - Fedora core 8 OS, is it possible to install SAP PI 7.0 on this flavor of linux.
If any one has already done the same, please guide me with the hardware and software requirements like (DB, JDK, etc).
Any help would be appreciated and rewarded.
Thanks,

    Hi,
I think that Feedbak forum is not the best place for this problem.
    You should ask this into
=> Installation Forum : Database Installation
    or
=> Linux Forum : Generic Linux
Anyway, you can find an install doc here :

  • Is it possible to install a WCS on Linux/Debian ?

    Hello,
our custom, ask me if is it possible to install a WCS on Linux/Debian ?
Thank you for your help !!!
    Laurent

    Hey Laurent,
according to the data sheet, it won't be possible :/
Datasheet:Cisco WCS can be deployed on a customer-supplied server running one of the following operating systems:
    • Windows 2003 SP1, or subsequent service packs. Windows 2008 is not a supported platform
    • Redhat Linux AS/ES v4.0 (Release 4.2 and later) and Redhat Linux AS/ES v5.0 (Releases 4.2.x or 5.0 or later)
    • VMware ESX Server 3.0.1 or later. (Minimum hardware requirements for a dedicated and guaranteed VMware server: Intel® Xeon Quad CPU; 3.15 GHz, 8-GB RAM, 200-GB HDD)

  • Install 9iDB on Linux Fedora Core 3

I expected a problem when I try to install 9iDB on Linux Fedora Core 3, the installation takes a long time and nothing is working, it stays at 0%.
    Have you any idea?
    Thanks

    Rajeev,
this is not a good link because FC1 has 2.4 kernel. and old GLIBC.
But there is serious problem to install 9i on OS with 2.6 kernel and GLIBC 2.3.
My advice is install older OS version such as RH 7.2 - 9 or Suse 8,9, FC1
Or simply dongrade the kernel to 2.4 version and also downgrade the GLIBC

    2) XE Forum. If you have XE working and can get to the web page, you should see the link to register for the XE forum. You must register and then 'sign in' to see the XE forum. The link on your XE home page should point to http://www.oracle.com/technology/xe/registration'
    1) What's the difference ... ?
OK ... here we go ....
Oracle has hundreds of products. I like to group them into 'technology' and 'application' products.
The 'technoloy' products I group into
    - data management == database
    - data access == applicaiton server (fusion)
    - data manipulation == developer tools and languages
    - data sharing == collaboration suite
Without data access, the data management and data manipulation is plain 'client-server' stuff.
With data access, you stick an application server (web server, J2EE server, other server) between the client and the database.
The Oracle Application Server is a collection of Oracle technology designed to support n-tier computing. The technology includes:
    - http server (Apache stuff)
    - reporting server
    - portal server
    - forms/data entry server
    - generic J2EE server
    - BPEL and SOA orchestration
    - Web Services server
    - workflow and intergration server
    - centralized security and single sign-on server
    and a lot more.
The Oracle database, of course, stores and manages data. Oracle now has many 'database managers', including
    - Oracle Database == the traditional one
    - Times Ten == in memory only, but very high speed
    - Berkeley == embedded (to be included as part of your application)
    - Lite == for laptops and remote devices
    and more
The traditional Oracle database has many features. These features may not be needed by all organizations. So Oracle has created several editions. These are Express, Standard Edition One, Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition and Personal Edition. In the order presented, each adds more feature than the one before but includes all the features from the one before.
The Express Edition has the fewest features and the simplest install. It has no official Oracle support and has size limitations (4GB data max, only runs one 1 CPU). It includes Application Express which allows you to access the data from a web browser. I think of this as 'Microsoft Access, with Oracle multi-user reliability, on the Web'.
The Standard Edition One has everything from Express and adds: Java in the database, ability to use up to 2 CPU, many more features such as multi-media storage, no data size limit. It also changes the install to use the Oracle Univeral Installer.
Standard Edition adds Real Application Cluster to allow up to 4 CPU to be used, whether the 4 CPU are on one, two or four machines.
Enterprise Edition adds many high availability and scalability features to ensure the database will try to stay up all the time and will be able to handle many hundreds or thousands of users. Many DBA features are added to allow detailed tuning and management. And many options such as Partitioning, Label Security and Spatial can be purchased and added to this edition.
Personal Edition includes all of Enterprise Edition AND all of the Enterprise Edition options except Real Application Cluster. It is designed to be used by the Oracle developer so it is very inexpensive (in comparison to the Enterprise Edition) but it is limited (by the honor system) to one user access.
So when you use Express Edition, everytthing you do can be done in Enterprise Edition as well. Express Edition is a great learning tool for getting comfortable with the commercial Oracle database. It is also a great tool for developing applications for small organizations or even for home use. A great tutorial for XE is at http://st-curriculum.oracle.com/tutorial/DBXETutorial/index.htm
All of this is described in a few pages of documentation (about 70 thousand) at http://docs.oracle.com. If you want to understand Oracle well, you may have to spend a bit less time with the nuns for a while.

  • Installed Oracle 9i on RH Fedora Core 1.  Now what?

From the instructions on http://www.oracle-base.com/Articles/9i/Oracle9iInstallationOnFedora1.php and http://otn.oracle.com/tech/linux/htdocs/oracleonlinux_faq.html
I managed to install Oracle 9i on Linux, and have set up an ssh server, and use putty to access Oracle 9i from the windows machine at work. Works great (even though the web server don't start automatically allways on reboot).
But can people who actually work as system administrators tell me what I should do next. My education is as a programmer and building engineer, so I have gotten no administration experience. What is the next logical step an real administrator would do now (except the obvious thing as reading the 103567 pages of manuals that comes with Linux and Oracle)? I have done the following:
Set up ssh, downloaded putty for the windows user and work. Also installed vnc server (but have not understood how to make it work yet (from a windows machine)). Made all the passwords minimum 10 characters long with mix upper / lower case, with symbols and numbers mixed in.
Played around with the Fedora firewall. It is not very good though, so I turned it off (still have a firewall in my router... but like to have top security). If I use the firewall wizard, it only gives me very limited options (port 21, 22, 80 and two more), and the creation of a manual firewall file is way beyond me (yet). Like, I know that ssh uses port 22 and web server uses port 80, but what about nightly yum, up2date, messaging client, Wolfenstein ET etc?
And do real Linux administrators use some kind of virus protection like windows machines has?
Or is it some Linux or Oracle admin tool that is widly regarded as being good to have amoung administrators.
Or does my very limited knowledge of administration leave some huge holes in the defences?, that lets hackers simply walk straight into my computer and stuff around.
And with up2date and yum. How do I know that the updates I receive is safe from trojans etc. How do I know they are stable. Is it some place that guaranties "trojan free and stable" updates. (I have turned on something called nightly yum, and my best guess is that it does something, because the up2date icon in the gnome desktop is blue with a tick in it (I have ignored some perl updates since I don't use perl)).
And if (against all odds) my home made hobby type business should be a sucess (and I can leave my slow government job and work on web/database development :) ) , how can I contribute to the Linux community for everything it has done to me (in a way that would be to the best for the Linux community). (After paying Oracle...) (And a bit to RedHat for Fedora).

to quote my former post in your other question thread, Fedora 7 is not a supported platform for SAP. Nevertheless, if you plan to play around with the system instead of using it productively, you may continue. But never forget, that you are running on a non supported combination.
There are two possibilities for fix the problem you are facing:
You can download all updated the installation files on the SAP Service Market Place at http:
    service.sap.com\swdc
Please check SAP Note [929929|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/929929], which describes common sapinst problem.
    Thanks,
      Hannes

Yes, they can. They installed in different directories and you have to use different ports.
AFAIK for HTTP for APEX is either part of the installation (eg. in the Oracle Express Edition) or part of the Oracle Installation CDs. For more information see the Oracle Installation Documentation.

Actually that Linux version is not supported for 10g. You may try starting the installer as
    $ ./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs
BTW, not sure you won't have any problems afterwards, but it should work.

  • Is it possible to install two GUI version on same server??

    Hi all,
I am facing a typical problem.
I am using ECC 6.0 on Solaris server and accessing through CITRIX where SAP GUI 6.4 is installed.
I have got Internet Explorer 7.
Some dumps are cumming like message_server_x
Then I went for SAP GUI 7.1 in which error is not cumming.
There is only one CITRIX server at this moment and users from all the location is using through this on live system. They are not getting such issue.
But we the new project team is getting this issue of dump.
Now the question is whether it is possible to install SAP GUI 7.1 seperately on the same CITRIX server where SAP GUI 6.4 is running???
    Thanks in Advance
    Souren

I do not have knowledge in the field of CITRIX metaframe, i'm only can advise you read about the
"Application Isolation Environment" (AIE) --> For example read in http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX109664
. May be it's help you. The best way update your 640 version. Regards.
