Is it possible to joing files with chapters bookmarks WITHOUT NEEDING transcoding?

Is it possible in FCPX to joing files with chapters bookmarks at the beginning of each clip (clips and project propieties the same so no need to render) and then exporting the project as one file WITHOUT NEEDING transcoding? Simply I want to join homogeneus files and place chapter marks inbetween. Or any program that does this? thanks

I don't think you there is a command to do what you are asking automatically for a bunch of clips, but FCP X supports chapter markers. You just have to add them in the timeline.
If the project settings equal the clip settings and the export settings, there should be no transcoding involved.
However, I believe that a simpler solution can be achieved (and this one is guaranteed to do no transcoding).
Download and install QTCoffee (a free download from http://www.3am.pair.com/QTCoffee.html)
Open a terminal window, type "catmovie -o mymovie.mov -auto-chapters "
(without the quotes but with the trailing SPACE; use the name you want to give the new movie instead of mymovie.mov)
Drag the movie files into the terminal window. Press ENTER.
Boom! (couldn't resist :-))
p.S.: By default this will place the newly created movie in your home folder (or on whatever is the active directory in the terminal shell at the time)

  • Exporting Long Projects to AAC Files with Chapters

    Hey
Is it possible to export an AAC file with chapters at around two hours in length?
I get the "maximum file size of 2gb exceeded" if I try from Garage band (even though the wav the project is made from is made from is only 1.2Gb and the estimated AAC file after export is 58mb)
I've also tried from the latest version of Sound Track Pro, but that just hangs on export.
    Anyone have any clues?
    All the best,

  • How do I export as in AIFF file with chapters to burn in iTunes?

I taped a round table discussion which is about an hour long. After editing in FCE, I need to make a CD of the discussion, ideally creating 12 five minute long songs. Is there a way to export an aiff file with chapters which I can then burn in iTunes as 12 separate songs? Please tell me I don't need to make and export 12 separate sequences.

Mark In and Out points in the timeline. Export. MArk new In and Out points and export again. Rpeat 10 more times.

  • How to export 1080 HD video to MPG4 file with chapters?

Now that I have put a sequence together in FCE, how do I create a 1080HD MPG4 file that can be used on a PC, MAC or with the WD HD Media player (for those that know the latter).
    Thanks!

That process will work, but won't give you HD video (as iDVD output is only SD). If you have FCE and Quicktime Pro, you could create what you are after.
    1) In FCE, use File->Export->Quicktime movie ... (and include all markers) -> File1
    2) In FCE, use File->Export->Using Quicktime Conversion ... -> File2
    3) Using Quicktime Pro open File1 and File2, extract the chapter track (text track) from File1 and then add it to File2.
    4) Using Quicktime Pro make the newly added text track in File2 the chapters for the video track. Save the result a self contained QT movie file.
You will now have a a HD video file with chapters.

  • My old mac screen broke down and I would like to transfer my photos and documents to my new mac. Is it possible to transfer it with the cable without fixing my screen?

My old mac screen broke down and I would like to transfer my photos and documents to my new mac. Is it possible to transfer it with the cable without fixing my old mac screen? Please help!

Sure! If the two Macs have Thunderbolt ports, attach a Thunderbolt cable between them. If they have FireWire, or if one has FireWire and one Thunderbolt, connect a FireWire cable (with a TB adaptor if necessary). Reboot the old Mac holding down the T key. Make sure it's connected to power. You'll now see its system drive appear on the desktop of the other Mac and you can use Migration Assistant to automatically transfer files, or drag them over manually.

  • How do I print to a postscript file with InDesign CS6 without both extensions, .indd.ps?

How do I print to a postscript file without an .indd extension in InDesign CS6? I choose Print, choose a print preset from my print shop and Save. The first time I tried it was blank (the Hide Extension was checked), so I tried to save and got a dialog box that said it cannot be saved as an .indd file (duh), to choose both or .ps. I chose .ps and it was fine, but every time I postscripted it gave me this dialog box until I unchecked Hide Extension. After I did that, every time I postscript it automatically saves both extensions. Not a big deal but it is annoying. I just want it to end with .ps like it used to. Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks!!

I have no idea but I am incredibly curious...why are you doing this?
Printing to postscript is a completely archaic workflow. Export to PDF
    instead.

If you want to file need to be picked up twice in same folder, it seems it is hard for PI adapter to achieve it, you should look for API's that control adapters availibility.
But if you have different folder, then it make your scenario simpler since you can process first time, then output to another folder, configure another adapter to pick up from different folder.

  • How to merge .m4v files with chapters included?

I am unable to merge two .m4v files in quicktime pro and keep their chapter structure. Is this even possible? I take a lot of time to build chapters into movies I make and I would like to be able to combine some AND keep the chapter structure.
    Here is what I have:
    Movie A: 12 chapters
    Movie B: 10 chapters
open movie A in quicktime pro
open movie B in quicktime pro
    copy movie B (command+A, command+C)
    select movie A
push needs to end of movie A
    paste clipboard (command+V)
    Result:
Movie A now has it's original 12 chapters and then the added movie B is just one long section added on to the end of Movie A's last chapter.
Any help would be appreciated. This seems to be an ongoing question on many forums.

    1) is there any way to use your method that give me a final .m4v?
Well, your questions are certainly getting harder. How a bout no, yes, and maybe.
    a) No, I do not know of a direct approach for simply changing the file container. As you may have noted, QT now checks the Video Track "Sample Description" and if the extension does not match the description, QT sends you a "nastygram" modal message and refuses to open the file.
    b) Yes, it can be done indirectly. In this case I used the SimpleMovieX ($35) from Aero Quartet of Catalonia, Spain. While I tend to use QT Pro and MPEG Streamclip for most day-to-day work, this application does have some unique features to which I resort when needed. One is the "Keyframe" combined indicator/skip option, one is its audio manipulations, and another is the way it handles H.264/AAC MOV file container conversion. (I also do a lot of "track management" work that leaves me in an MOV file when I actually want MP4 or M4V file container features like being able to associate external "artwork" images in iTunes.) In any event, this application does actually go through and correct the descriptors before it copies the appropriate data to the new container making QT ever so happy with the new MP4 container. At this point, if I modify the MP4 Extension to M4V in the Finder, QT then does not issue the modal message and does use iTunes as the default application to open the file.
    c) Maybe the file is considered to be a real M4V file and maybe it is not. I have not, for instance tried to add a "Passthrough" AC3 secondary audio track and check to see if the resulting file will play correctly via TV. So there may yet be some internal distinctions of which I am yet unaware. Other than that, the file does indeed seem to function as any other iTunes file created by direct M4V data compressed export.
Anyway, this is from the "for whatever it is worth" department and you can invest $35 in the application or try to find another application capable of doing the same thing. MPEG Streamclip, for instance, will not work here but I have not actually looked around for anything else.
    2) if I use the final .MOV that you get at the end of your tutorial, will exporting as "apple tv" or mpeg 4 etc. compress it again?
Yes, it will. In addition, depending on the application used to perform the export, you may lose the chapter track also.

  • Quicktime File with Chapters to iDVD?

I was getting "multiplexing" errors with a particular iDVD project that I imported from iMovie 6 so I thought I would export the project as a full Quicktime file and then drag the Quicktime file into iDVD. Will the chapter markers still show up in iDVD?

    Hi
    My list on *Multiplexing Error*
    PART One.
Use of strange video/audio material eg .avi, .wmv, .mp3 etc.
    I only use.
Video - StreamingDV (miniDV tape via FireWire) and
Audio = .aiff (as on audio-CDs) (else coverted to this .aff 48KHz)
Using strange letters in video project name eg +,/; etc. keep to a-z and 0-9
strange letters in project name eg +
as described by Donnyboy69. Does the title of your project have any symbols or decimal points in it. If so, that is why you are getting the error. I had a project that had a + sign which caused the same problem. I renamed it without the symbol and low and behold, it worked.

    Multiplex Error
    Chuck, Chicago 2/7/2009.
Back again. Here is what I have found to work. I also have and use a LaCie DVD-R/RW DL external drive and a LaCie external hard drive as well. Since yesterday I have tried a few ways to burn a themed iDVD project having four 56 minute movies on it, amounting to 226 minutes onto a DVD DL disc, capacity 240 minutes. Apple tech support really didn't know what to do but gave me a very good tip. I had two options left. Apple tech support's tip was to try disc image. One of the replies on a thread with this subject said not to, but my experience today is good. Put your project onto "Burn to disc image," under "iDVD, file." Yesterday encoding took me 23 1/2 hours. Overnight for iDVD disc image, encoding took 21 1/2 hours (again) while I slept. This morning I tried to copy/burn disc image to a DVD with Roxio Toast 7, and it stopped near the end of the burn with some kind of "error" message. So then I tried Utilities> Disc Utility> Burn icon, and followed it through. Be sure to click the DVD DL drive in the window "Burn disc in.". I had one other problem though. At the end of a 46 minute copy, it started to verify, and at the end of verify it rejected the burn. So I tried again, and when "verify" appeared, I clicked on "Skip." The disc finished burning and is doing fine and well. A long and tortuous process, but at last something works. I made several additional copies using Disc Utility. Best wishes. Chuck, Chicago.
    2. Disconnect any other external devices not absolutly needed.

(Not a 'guy' but I will answer!)
First, I do not think that mixing widescreen and standard makes a difference in iDVD.
Second, you should use a better brand of DVD disk. Also, many of us have experienced fewer problems on playback with DVD-R disks. Recommended brands here are Verbatim, Maxell and Taio Yuden. Memorex and TDK are not consistent and may not give you a correct burn. They apparently have fewer layers in the composition of the disk. I have always used Verbatim DVD-R disks and have not had any burn problems.
Also, choose a slower burn speed, 4x or less.
Third, to determine if the iDVD project will burn properly, create a disk image file (from within iDVD, go File->Save as Disk Image) and test it. Mount the disk image and then open DVD Player (in Applications) and view your project. If it plays correctly, you can then burn the actual DVD disk from the disk image file using Disk Utility.

I did everything I've seen suggested, but a friend (who used to be an Apple Genius) suggested that I do a safe reboot (by holding down the shift key until you see the spinning gear on grey background, then release, then restart when your start-up screen appears).
It worked, and I got a clean burn from iDVD.
Hopefully this can help other people.

Well, I finally got it, and it was odd enough to post here incase anyone looks this topic up again. Many things were tried, including burning the uneditited film, the edited film without titles and chapter markers, abbreviating the chapter markers in case length was the issue (remember the old iMovie used to truncate them when moving to iDVD?). In the process, I noticed that one, and only one, chapter marker was on the same line as the title marker. All the others were on the line above. The only way I seemed able to change that was to clip a few seconds of film. After that last clip, the offending marker took a place on the line above, as were all the others. That run published, compiled completely and burned. That's one for the books.

  • Is it possible to name files with YY instead of YYYY?

Say there - longtime Lightroom user, consider switching to Aperture. I have 40,000+ images that are all named in the identical format - MMDDYY_001.JPG. I need to retain that file naming convention.
One cool thing Lightroom did was allow me to rename a folder of images with varying capture dates with the file naming convention of MMDDYY. I didn't have to hard code anything, it inspected capture date dynamically and named the files accordingly (100510_001.JPG, 100610_002.JPG, 100610_003.JPG, 101310_004.JPG, etc).
For the life of me, I can only see how to get Aperture to use MMDDYYYY, not MMDDYY. Is this not possible? I'd be astonished if it's not, and believe it or not, a potential deal breaker for me. I have no desire to use a 3rd party utility.
Hopefully someone can show me that I'm blind or slow. Or maybe both.

Hi. File this one under "Not the answer I was looking for".
To the best of my knowledge there is no way in Aperture to create a preset with 2-character variable for year.
There is, of course, a good reason behind this. Years are sequential, and people often sort by date or by year. The turn of the millennium forced everyone, and in particular computer users (remember Y2K?) to abandon the formerly-useful-and-now-misleading convention of 2-character abbreviations for year.
For you, the move to Aperture means an opportunity to catch up. Rather than whittle Aperture down to fit your system, you might consider revamping your system. A program like Name Mangler makes short work of renaming 40,000 files. Change your convention to MMDDYYYY, and then take advantage of Aperture file naming.
    Two notes.
    - Unless you have a reason to sort on month (so that every photo taken in January, regardless of year, comes before every photo taken in February, and so on), you might revert to the standard YYYYMMDD so that a sort on file name will put your files in date order.
    - All photos in Aperture are already stamped with a date. That date is readily available. There is little reason to use the date in your file names. (Note too that Aperture (as well as Lightroom) does an excellent job of providing sorting, filtering, and grouping by date (and day, for that matter) -- just as the date is baked into your photos, date-organizing is baked into Aperture. So, if you are tempted, there is no reason to base your Library organization on date. Aperture already has all that built in.)

  • PDF from PostScript file with hyperlinks/bookmarks

Is there a way to include hyperlinks and bookmarks when printing to Postscript file.
Direct Export to PDF creates a huge file size so I need to go the PostScript/Distiller route.

Would it not be possible to use the famous Acrobat Replace Pages featurebug/bugfeature here? (Hyperlinks on, and bookmarks to pages do not get replaced when you replace those.)
    Something like:
    1. Export to PDF.
    2. Print and Distill.
    3. Replace all pages in the document from step 1 with those from step 2.
