I'd like to make a modification to the JSF lifecycle so that when a view is first visited, it is possible to know the number of children before the RenderResponse phase.
It seems that, following the RI source code, the dispatch method of the ExternalContext is called.
This method calls itself the RequestDispatcher of the javax.servlet package.
How can I do that ?

I've been here all the time, ever since I got my G4 and could finally OS X (started with 10.1.5). Don't know how ya coulda missed me.... I'm usually in the Using the OS Forum and the Finder forum, with occasionaly excursions in the Spotlight forum.
BTW, so this isn't completely off topic, after getting frustrated by the file count and Finder displaying correct sizes I experimented with a couple of Applescripts but then found a wonderful little Contextual Menu item, CalculateSize:

It tells you not only the number of files and sub-folders in a given folder, it also tells you the number of invisibles of each and the total size of the items, and it calculates sizes ever so much faster than the Finder does.

What does knowing the number of "views" tell us about a thread.

PREMISS:
People might "look" at a thread for a whole host of reasons -- whether it be to read the thread and contribute, or just to lurk, or because the thread's title was ambiguous, or funny, or in some other way remarkable apart from any substantive value it may have, or, even, just by accident, because the person clicked on the wrong button and inadvertently "looked" at the thread for a nanosecond before exiting. And probably for other reasons as well.....
QUESTION:
In light of the foregoing, what does knowing the number of "views" tell us other than what it says, i.e., does it tell us anything apart from the number of people that have for whatever reason literally just taken a look at the thread?
If the answer to the above question is nothing -- i.e., the number of "views" tells us just that, the number of "views" and nothing more -- then why is this information so prominently featured, instead of, say, the information that used to be present under the old Discussions system, such as the number of unread posts in a particular thread, which is data that actually has a value as something other than a statistic. Knowing the number of unread posts indicates to someone following a particular thread, whether there has been additional contributions to the thread that should be reviewed if one is to remain current on the substance of that particular discussion. The extent of the additional contributions (if any) are readily apparent from the count).
The little, difficult-to-discern-on-my-PowerBook's-screen tiny blue dot can hardly be said to take the place of the unread post count, as it shows the same indicator for one new post as it does for ten or even a hundred.

(BTW, my "offer" of a point award was more a misplaced attempt at sardonic humor aimed at deriding the new point system, with which I have a number of strong disagreements, than it was an effort to bribe thoughtful replies like yours. Please know that I really do appreciate the time and effort you took to get back to me on this and meant no disrespect by the "reward" point bounty).
That said, I do have one follow up. I just don't think that that's the case. I don't think it sufficently discounts curiosity, boredom, funny title, et al. Those are some pretty powerful motivations for people to peruse this site. And there are many, many others as well.
Of course I can only speak with certainty of my own personal experience with the Discussions, but based on that, I know have "viewed" numerous threads on subject matters that not only wasn't I experiencing, but on subject matters that I couldn't possibly experience,because it concerned Mac hardware or software that I don't own or have never used.
In some cases, I looked at threads where the subject line sounded interesting, or amusing, or provocative, in other cases I looked at threads that concerned hardware or software that I once owned (and so I thought I might be able to help with the problem at issue), in still other cases the thread concerned software and/or hardware that I was considering purchasing (and wanted to know what I might be getting into). With regard to the former of those two reasons, I know there were many, many instances where, based on the title of the post, I knew that I could help and I viewed the post as a form of oversight (so to speak) to make sure that the responses being left were providing accurate and complete information.
In my "view," though clearly not in the "view" of the Mods, et al. for reasons (thanks to your post) that I can at least better articulate (if not understand or agree with), a thread's number of "views" is susceptible to just too many possible meanings to make it of any real use. The number of unread posts (and by this I refer to the old numeric value of posts not yet read and not that illegible little blue dot used in the new system) may not be perfect information, but it is certainly more useful in my "view" than the number of "views." (I apologize for those poor puns on the word "view," but in my "view" they were unavoidable, sort of. See what I mean
Anyway. I really do thank you for your reply and the time and effort you took to make it. But, alas, with each hour I use these New Discussions, the more convinced I become that my continued time on here is fading. Hi with Apple now selling more devices than ever is it possible to increase the number of authorised computers for sharing on iTunes.
we have 2 x MBP and a 27" iMac 2 x ipads 3 x ipods and 2 x iphones in the house, we would obviously like to share the one account with all of them and I think that seeing the number has not changed in years yet the number of products able to use. It would make sense to at least double the authorised number.

I'm very enjoying iCal. But, there is something very important for me that I can't find in iCal !
I need to know the number of the week (in Month, Week or Day views).
Is that a way to easily see it ?

there's no option for a week view in iCal, but John Maisey wrote this applescript.
paste it in the Script Editor (Applications --> AppleScript --> Script Editor) and run it once...

Is it possible to limit the number of attachments

Is is possible to limit the number of attachments that the mail server will receive in a message. For example if the email has 5 or more attachments reject it or through it in the bitbucket.
The reason I ask is I have a remote site that is sending me 500+ email messages with 40 attachments in each. Well with virus scanning in the conversion channel it really backs things up.
I have looked in the manual but have not been able to find anything.
I am running ims5.2 patch 1.15 on HP-UX. Soon it will be patch 1.25 when school is out.

Since each message is usually in a separate MIMEpart, you could use the conversion channel to do what you're asking, but . . .
Routing every message through conversion will be a pretty big performance hit.
How about simply blocking that particular site with an
ORIG_SEND_ACCESS
mapping entry in your mappings file?

what do you mean by triggers in a schema? is it the triggers owned by that schema? or the triggers applied on tables owned by that schema? remember you may own triggers applied on the tables belong to other schemas. Anyways, all this information can be extracted from oracle dictionary using a combination of all_triggers and all_tables.
As far as cursors, please elaborate. Do you mean cursors declared in PL/SQL blocks?

Hi Victor,
I see what you mean. The problem is still that there isn't actually a row number associated with each database row. In your example, what is the primary key of the table? If it is say A Q E for row 3 and A W R for row 4 then that is the only way you can identify them.
It sounds like you have performance considerations so probably change the SELECT * to only SELECT the fields you need. Also change it so that you are SELECTing into a table - so in your example you would get both rows 3 and 4. Then if you want to process those rows, you will have to use their primary keys to identify them, say by LOOPing through the internal table you have just selected them into.
Do you already have an internal table with values you wish to read from this table? So say you have a table with 500 entries which all define the value in the first column of this table? If so you could try chaning to using a FOR ALL ENTRIES in your select to get all rows for the table in one hit - you can then process them again in a LOOP.
