Is it possible to link iCal Events to my contacts in address book?

Hi,
I need to keep a note of all meetings I have with my contacts. Is there any facility to link meetings to contacts?
The same question also applies to my tasks / to do lists. I need the facility to link these to each contact specifically.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You can use URL style links to for your Address Book contacts. These are made of the text "addressbook://" and the unique identifier of the person's card.
I wrote an Applescript that copies the URL for the selected person to the clipboard. Look for the item *'Link to Address Book'* on this page. The script is compiled as an application, so just involves selecting the person and clicking the application.
Best wishes

Lion 10.7.2 On both mac book pro and iMac, both with Lion 10.7.2, obtain repeated iCal event notifications from calendar or address book.  Cannot turn these off.  They repeat several times per session and every time computer is used.  How to diagnose this?

First, uninstall "SuperTV" (whatever that is) according to the developer's instructions. It isn't working and it's filling the log with noise.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
    Launch the Console application.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Post the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message. When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
PLEASE DO NOT INDISCRIMINATELY DUMP THOUSANDS OF LINES FROM THE LOG INTO A MESSAGE. If you do that, I will not respond.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Why aren't invitees to an ical event auto adding from my address book - I have to add manually?

HI, When I add invtees to an event in ical, it only adds from a the list of people previously added to an event rather than accessing my whole address book.  I have to manually add their emails?  Drives me nuts.

I just figured out how to add the invitee option to your iphone 4 without using Exchange!
    -You must have Mobileme
-Download the most recent upgrades for apple for your iphone & computer/laptop
-Login to your Mobileme account online
-download the new Beta version of the mobileme calendar
...allow the few minutes for everything to update and poof! you should have the invitees & availability option on your iphone 4! oh thank heaven!

  • Sync between MacBookPro and iPhone 3G does not sync properly.  Calendars duplicate events but worse is that only contacts from Address book from letter T onwards sync.  Any contacts on iPhone which are not on Mac are lost during sync.

    Solutions?

No, I never really found an easy solution.  I believe it is an issue with some corruption in the iTunes database on the specific device.  In my case, both my iPad and iPhone now show duplicate stream songs if viewed through iTunes on my Mac, but they show different songs.  A couple years ago I had a similar issue on my iPhone, and Apple support suggested I back up the phone, completely reset it, and then restore it from the backup.  It did work, so I imagine it would probably work for my current issues with the iPhone and iPad.  But resetting and restoring an iPad or iPhone always makes me a little nervous that something will get lost.  When I did reset/restore the iPhone, I do have to say, the restore process was 100% perfect and I did not lose any data at all even though Apple support said I might.  If you try to go that route, I would suggest backing the device up both to a computer through iTunes, and to the iCloud so that you have a double backup.
None of this really resolves the issue with how the iTunes databases are becoming corrupted on the apple devices though, so it is very likely to happen again until they fix it.  I have been unable to determine if there were any specific actions or conditions which caused the corruption to happen in the first place.
Might be worth another call to Apple support, or dropping in the local Apple store if you have one near by.

  • Format address panel in iCal to show Department from the address book. At the moment it is showing 'Job Title' even though that has been removed in Address Book.

Can anybody help please How do I Format address panel in iCal to show Department from the address book. At the moment it is showing 'Job Title' even though that has been removed in Address Book.

I have a similar problem. I actually spoke with a Paypal customer Representative a few months back who informed me that they had deleted all of my previous *Hidden* Address but when I just purchased an item today on a online merchant's site that I had never been to before and checked out using their Paypal option, I noticed that my default shipping address was in fact my old address and when I went to change the address to my current address, I noticed all of the old addresses I ever used were still there. I've just spoken with 2 separate paypal representatives who confirmed on their end that all of the old address have been deleted and the only one they have on file is my current address. Can anyone provide me an explanation as to why the old hidden address can still be showing up when I check out on merchant's sites using paypal even after they've seemingly been deleted? The last Representative suggested clearing out my browser's cache, but I don't believe that will resolve my issue. Thank you in advance.

  • Link a TO DO to a CONTACT in Address Book

I can create TO DOs from emails. However, is it possible to link a TO DO to a Contact or create a TO DO from a Contact in my Address Book? Am I missing something really basic about the programs? Thanks!

    It worked!
Since my brain is non-techie, this is what I did. (In case any other like minds wish to use this.)
    1. Downloaded the applet
    2. Dropped the application into my Applications folder
    3. Placed an icon for the application on my Doc
    To use it:
    1. Open the Address Book to the desired Contact
    2. Click the "icon" on my dock; it alerts me that the link for Mr/s So-and-So is on my Clipboard
    3. Create my ical Event or To Do.
    4. In the url: slot I paste the Clipboard contents
    5. After I save the Event or To Do, what appears next to the url is "Show in Address Book" - click on that and it automatically opens up the Address Book to the corresponding card. Viola!
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

  • ICal Forcing Invites After Dragging Contact From Address Book

Every since the update to Mac OS X 10.6.5 and the latest MobileMe calendar update, when I drag a contact over from the address book to iCal it forces me to invite them to the meeting and sends out a meeting request. I only do this so that it links the person to the event so when I use my iPhone and select the event, I can then select the person and it will then link me to their contact info. Sure, the invite option is a nice feature but some of these invites would be unsolicited. In the past I was able to just click "don't send" or something similar and avoid the invite. Now it seems as if I don't have a choice. Can someone acknowledge this nuance? In addition, has anyone found a workaround?

I have the same problem and not found a comparable workaround either.
If I want to create an iCal event that lists invitees but does not send them an invitation, the only thing I can do is to put their name into the notes section instead of the invitee section. However, names can not link from the notes section... but phone numbers and addresses can on the iPhone. I can then call or map them from the notes section.
It is not a pretty fix, and by no means comparable, but it is the best alternative of which I know.

  • ICal to alert me to call a contact from Address Book?

I currently use Entourage's address book as a contact manager and want to switch to Mac Address Book and iCal to track my clients. I can't figure out how to have a specific Address Book client alert me to call back on a specific date I specify.
For instance, in Entourage, I use it's address book function and set a "To Do Date" for it to remind me to call this client. I was told on the Address Book forum it's not possible unless iCal can do it. How is this done in iCal (other than having to set a new event in meeting-like iCal which would be a real pain)? I have to be reminded of 10 to 30 call-backs each day.
If this doesn't work, what's my options? If I stay with Entourage I have to deal with syncing to my iPhone via the archaic and entirely reliable Entourage to iCal via Sync Services, and then to my iPhone. I do end up with duplicates calendar entries on occasions.
    B. Other software or ideas?

    Hi Mike,
I agree with Austin. Applescript will help with this. I've taken a different tack with it though and I'd suggest using Address Book's plug-in structure.
Copy the script below into Script Editor and make changes to the lines starting "property". You'll need to save this script in your User's Library > Address Book Plug-Ins folder (you may need to make this folder) or it won't work.
Now when you click on the label of a phone number in Address Book there will be a contextual menu item to "Call <name> later". This will ask you for a date and to add more notes, then it will make a Todo in the calendar you set in the script.
    -- Call Later -- John Maisey -- www.nhoj.co.uk -- 1 May 2009
    -- -- Address Book plug-in
    -- -- Save as CallLater.scpt and add to folder "~/Library/Address Book plug-ins"
property myCalendar : "Home" -- Calendar to add todo to.
property myAdvance : 7 -- Default number of days from current date
property setAlarm : true -- Do the Todos pop up an alarm? (true or false)

on action title for thePerson with theEntry
return "Call " & (name of thePerson) & " later"
    end action title
on perform action for thePerson with theEntry
set theName to name of thePerson
set thePhoneNumber to value of theEntry
set theURL to "addressbook://" & id of thePerson
set myDate to text returned of (display dialog "Enter the date to call " & theName default answer (short date string of ((current date) + (myAdvance * days))) with title "Call Later - by John Maisey")

  • Error when dragging a contact from Address Book to iCal

When I first got my Mac, I used to be able to drag over a contact from my Address Book into iCal, and it would create a meeting no problem. Now when I try the same thing all of a sudden I get an error saying:-
"There was an error with the invitation.
Only the organiser can change this event. Contact
    the organiser to make changes."
I have spend ages trying to sort out the problem but to no avail.
I have made sure that I am in the address book with my correct email address and that it is to "me", but still the error
Please can anybody help with this?

  • Is it possible to change the size of the Picture in Address Book

Hi, the contact pictures in the Address Book are way to small, is there the possibility to show them bigger??
    Thanks
    MacBook White 1,83 - 80GB HD - 2GB - EX-RSS   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

No, I don't think so. When you put a picture on the card you can control what part of the picture is used, but there is no control for the subsequent size.
You could try using OS X Feedback and ask them to change it in the next release ...

  • Can't set alarm in ical with email. tells me open address book but can't get anything to happen

using version 4.0 I was able to just a few days ago set an alarm in Ical using my email address, but now i can not.   I open alarm and click on email and it tells me to open address book and select my card and email.  I can open the address book and find my card and email but i don't know where to go from here..  not sure what has happened over the last couple of days for it not to work.  any idea's how to get this working again.

    Ron,
Open Address Book, find your card and make sure that you choose Card>Make This My Card.
If that is unsuccessful, delete and recreate your card, making sure to once again choose "Make This My Card."

  • Is it possible to associate iCal events with photos?

I use iCal both as an organiser and a diary. It would be cool if a few images from events could appear - perhaps based on the image metadata (keywords, date etc). For example, it would be cool if an image of a friend appeared for their birthday, or a few holiday snaps appeared on my notes about it.
Anyone know if this is possible? See mock-up for a visual explanation: http://i.imgur.com/0Ck0Q.png

  • ICal has problem receiving event invitation - not in the address book

My iCal has been working flawlessly for 4 months and then I started getting the error message in iCal that "There was an error receiving the event invitation" It says that the email address isn't in my address card, but I've checked and it is. I've tried adding and deleting the email address as well as deleting the address card, creating a new one, and designating it as me. It still gives that error, and this was all working previously. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I get these all the time, and have yet to figure out how to get them to add to my calendar.
I'm trying to figure out how to "open" it so I can see what the address conflict is. There appears to be no way to view the actual event, so I can see what address the event thinks is "missing.
I will keep trying to resolve this (what I call a bug) problem, and will reply here if I come up with something.

  • In the calendar app, is it possible to link directly to a phone number or address? This function exists in my Palm phone.

Is it possible within the native iPhone calendar app to link an appointment directly with a phone number or address or person?  This function existed in the software on my 3 previous Palm phones.

No, it isn't possible.  It would be nice but it would be very tricky to do since usually the files themselves also hold the data and can only hold it for one album at a time without changing a widely used standard for audio track tagging.  Frankly, I suspect the space savings would not be all that great.
