Is it possible to lock a folder with a passcode?

Hi,
This is more of a request then needing help on it, but is it possible to lock folders with a passcode? this would be very useful for me because I am very irresponsible and can't stop myself from playing games, and adding a passcode would make me think twice about it.

Only if the the specific app support that feature. Few do.

  • How to lock a folder with password ?

Please tell me how to lock a folder with password (to keep personal files)

Keep looking it can be done. I have a folder on my hard drive that requires a password everytime I try to open it. I found how to do this in an old "Mac OS - The missing manual" but don't remember off the top of my head how I did it. I remember you have to partition a portion of the hard drive, I think I did like 10 Gig of my 1 Teribite external drive and then you give it a name and make up a password. The password is NOT changeable and if you lose it you can't get back in that folder. It appears as a standard folder but needs a password to open it.
Email me direct if you can't find any info and I will try to look it up - [email protected]

Back it up and restore it in iTunes on the last computer it was synced with, as explained at the bottom of this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212.

    thanks

The Finder does not let you revoke both read and write permission from yourself, but you can revoke read permission from the GUI. Otherwise you have to use Terminal.
    Get Info on your folder
Under sharing and permissions change privilege to "No Access" for Group & Everyone (probably labeled "Staff" & "Everyone"). Change the permission to Write Only for "Me".
Click the lock to prevent changes.
Now nobody can view the contents of that folder without your account password.
To open the folder get info again, click the lock in the lower right corner, enter your password then change the "Me" permission to Read & Write.

Does anyone know if there is there a way to configure a standard folder so that a password is always required to open it, regardless of privileges of the current user?

  • Is it possible to lock a file with a password?

Is it possible to place a password on a particular file so that if someone has access to your computer they will need a password to open a file?

Not on a file as such; but you can compress it to a password-protected archive (eg, zip) or put it on a password-protected disk image.
Keep in mind that no-one you don't fully trust should have unsupervised physical access to your machine. If you absolutely must needs give them access, let them use the Guest account.

  • How do I lock my apps with a passcode?

i Would like to know how to lock my apps because I have things written down that I don't want anyone reading. Preferably how to lock the notes app. by the way iam running iOS 8.0.2 has below it says the wrong update am running.

No, you can't prevent people from trying to guess the code. However, it will take longer between each attempt, i.e. it will be disabled for 1 minute, 15, an hour... so it would take him a while to completely disable it.

  • How can I restore my iPhone 4S with a broken lock button and with a passcode

I have tried restoring the phone by trying to let the battery drain and by plugging it in and holding the home button but that did not work. I also tried using RecBoot but kept getting an error message. The iPhone has a passcode and a broken sleep/wake button so I cannot put it into recovery mode. The holding of the home button method was given to me by Apple (called them). It is running iOS 5.1.1 if it makes any difference. Please help!!

Looks like a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is required...
Be sure to make an appointment first...

  • Possible to Lock Folder?

I'm wondering if it's possible to lock a folder in
Dreamweaver, so that no one can access its index on the internet
and see all the folders inside it.
Basically, I have a galleries folder
(www.website.com/galleries/) and within that folder are gallery
folders that I don't want public. I send each gallery to a select
group of people, and don't want just anyone accessing all of the
    gallery folders.
Is there a way to lock the main gallery folder so that no one
    can access it?
    Thanks!

  • Locking one partition with a password or protecting it otherwise

I have an internal HD that is partitioned. Would it be possible to lock one partition with a password or protect it from prying eyes when I let a 'stranger' use my computer? I know I could put a folder on it with TrueCrypt, but since I would only want to occasionally lock the disk, it is not really an option.
    Love to hear.

Use Finder -> Get Info on the drive to change the permissions on your partition. Set your user account to be the owner, and then set Group and Others to No Access. Then let guests use any other user account than your own.
Good one had not thought of that. Is however as Thomas said not a optimal solution as there are ways around it.
Is there a way to make the disk invisible and not accessible? Or have it not mount for certain users?

  • How to lock a folder using admin password??

    hello,
i want to lock a folder with admin user name and password, and, i dont want to use Utilities->Disk Utility then Select File->New...->Blank Disk Image.
Can we lock a folder without creating an image???
    plz help!!!
i have mountain lion, 27inch imac!!

You can't. The OS doesn't support password protecting files and folders. The encrypted disk image route is superior to what you want to do. Why don't you?
