I was getting this even on iOS 4.0, but under this OS, I can restart the phone, and in some cases, this problem goes away.
However, under iOS 5, it simply wouldn't go to LANDSCAPE. Photos is not a worry, since I can just rotate this, but videos is now stuck on Portrait!
Again, the PORTRAIT ORIENTATION SETTING is NOT LOCKED! But it still wouldn't go to Landscape.
Is this some sort of a "gyroscope" problem??

Sorry, but you are mistaken about both observations.
You CAN DEFINITELY take photos in Landscape and you CAN DEFINITELY watch YouTube videos in PORTRAIT (just tried it now using my sister's working iPhone).
Also, my CALCULATOR does not go to LANDSCAPE (i.e. from normal to Scientific) automatically.
So I still think it could be a gyroscope problem...but I'm not 100% sure.

Could you not restore the device to an earlier version?
No, you cannot downgrade your iOS device.
That may mean jailbreaking, I'm not sure.
Jailbreaking is not supported by Apple or this forum.
Or what about replacing the motherboard?
There are no user serviceable parts on an iPhone.

I can't do that because the device was purchased from United Arab Emirates and I got it as a gift in Syria but the problem is that there is not even a single apple store in Syria so is there another way to fix that, I googled it and was told to jailbreak the device whitch I did and than hacktivated it but the problem is the device doesn't connect to any network and only shows "no service" and the battery draining too fast so is there any other way to fix this issue

So for Christmas I am upgrading to a new iPhone and so therefore I am giving my iPhone 4s to my younger brother. He currently uses an iPhone 3GS with iOS 6 installed. I currently have iOS 7 installed on the iPhone 4s but am considering upgrading to iOS 8.1.1. I was wondering if it is possible to when restoring my iPhone 4s to then set it up from the back up of the iPhone 3GS that runs iOS 6, when they run on different operating system updates. Will it work when the iPhone 4s is running iOS 7 or iOS 8, or both, or neither?

On iPhone 4s with IOS 7 my call controls seem to get locked when on a call - due to which I will have to unlock my phone everytime I have to disconnect a call or to place on mute / speaker etc.
Has anyone run into this issue?

ho collegato il cell al pc e ho fatto un backup completo su itunes, poi ho scollegato il cell e ho fatto un "cancella contenuto e impostazioni" successivamente ho seguito le istruzioni di inizializzazione come fosse un nuovo iphone, inifine ho collegato il cell al pc e ho eseguito il ripristino delle app.
e finalmente tutto si è normalizzato, speriamo definitavamente.

Supporting locking landscape orientation

It's really convinent to lock the landscape orientation when reading. So will the future version of reader support it ?

The only thing, what is necessary, is to NOT support iPhone upside down orientation. I can't imagine a case when somebody needs to read PDF and hold iPhone in upside down position.
If upside down orientation is not supported and you turn iPhone to this position (e.g. when uou read in bed), the screen remains in landscape orientation and that is the desired efect. None Apple application support upside down orientation. See for example apps: iBooks, Safari, Messages, Email, Notes, Calendar, Music, ...

For the Slide to reply bar: Turn on "Reply with message" in your passcode settings you that you will have a button to answer a call instead of a slider. (Will also enable Messaging from the lock screen)

I've just gotten tired of all the problems like exiting out of apps and dying at 20 to sometimes 50 percent and the lock button stopped working about 5 months ago. I never dropped it or anything until after the problems occurred and I used to always have the case on. I don't know if it has anything to do with iOS but from researching a bit it seems others with the 5 have been having similar problems. I even try to reduce the amount of apps I have open to help save battery and it just doesn't work, especially when I have my camera open, it'll drain drastically or just flat out die. Even when I close all open apps and turn notifications and things off and don't use it it'll still lose quite a bit of battery. My warranty ends on my birthday this week and I was wondering if I went and got a replacement if they'd replace it with the 5c because they seem to be very similar just size and material difference. But yea I just don't really want to end up with another iphone 5 that might end up the same way as this one has I guess.

Ever since I upgraded to the latest iOS, I haven't been able to get my phone to change orientation. When in Safari, mail, etc., it stays in portrait orientation. How can I get this to work?

Check the status bar on your phone and see if the orientation lock is on. Look up by the battery icon and you would see a circular arrow with a lock in it. Swipe upwards from the bottom of the phone to bring up Control Center. The orientation lock is the last one on the right of the top row of icons. When white it is on, black it is off.

Then as you've tried resetting the phone, the next step is to restore it from the latest backup. If that doesn't work, restore it as new, and if that doesn't work take it to Apple.
