Assuming the screenshots are of the same page, the one that's taller is either taller because the minimum page height has been changed or due to some page content (that's not marked as a Footer Item) being located in the new space. This may be an empty text frame or the transparent area of a widget, text frame or other object.

  • FM9: Possible to make "fit window to page" the default?

I'm using FM9, structured, on Windows 7.  (My company recently upgraded from FM7.0.)  In FM 7.0, my documents seemed to remember the last zoom I had set, and if I saved them having set "Fit Window to Page", the next time I opened the document that setting would be in effect.
This doesn't seem to be the case with FM9. Every time I open a document, its window fills the screen, and I need to manually fit the page to my preferred zoom (100 or 90%) from the Zoom status bar menu.  There are a lot of options for tweaking preferences for windows - I have not selected to open documents as tabs, for example - and I wonder whether a preference setting is preventing the fit window to page setting from being remembered per document, or whether there is any other way I can make that the default for opening documents.
Thanks very much for your help.

Still struggling with this, and the possible confounding factors, like differnet interface preference settings.  Some online research I've done seems to point to this being a problem in FM9, that is, setting a default zoom and fit for all documents.  There are some third-party plugins that say they can do this... but not for FM9.  So maybe the answer is "upgrade to FM 10", but that isn't an option for my department at this time.
    Further symptoms:
    - If I open all chapters in a book together in a single tabbed window, and explicitly set the first document to Fit Window to Page, I get what I want for that document, but as soon as I choose another chapter in anotehr tab, the window widens (I show a single page only), leaving a lot of gray empty window space.  I can explicitly set THAT document to Fit Window to Page, but when I click back on the first chapter I was working on, it opens wide; it has lost the Fit Window to Page I originally set for it.  Working that way, any time I change tabs, and frequently when I do operations like changing the conditional text that shows, the window containing all the tabs widens.  I would like to prevent that if possible.
    - Even when working on individual chapters, if I set one to Fit Window to Page (a setting that held, if I subsequently saved the document, in FM7) the setting is not (consistently, it seems) remembered, and the next time I open the single chapter, the window opens wide, or maximized (23" wide monitor) as if it is trying to give me a two-page view, but I'm only working with one page views (my preference because it's what I'm used to).
    - Regardless of how the files open individually (sometimes the zoom and fit seems to hold), when I open a book file, then use Open All Files In Book (having set the interface to NOT open all the files as tabs in a single window), I get this bizarre Time Tunnel effect whereby each chapter opens in a window that fits within the bounds of the previous chapter.  If the first chapter opens correctly, say 100% zoom and Fit Window to Page, the second opens at 100% zoom, but fits in the first, the third within the second, and if the book has enough chapters, the last chapters are vertically tiny, not showing more than a line or two of text.  So I need to manually rearrange and re-fit them all before I work on them.  What a pain.
I have to say, the FM9 interface is awfully clunky.  I don't know if it's implemented (partly) using Flash or what, but whole book operations like opening or closing all files, saving a book as PDF, sometimes even just switching the conditional text that is shown generally result in a frozen screen and a title bar that indicates "not responding" for a couple of minutes before FM9 gets it's act together and returns (often with windows resized and zoomed).  It can be pretty frustrating to work with, and can really slow me down.
I'm using structured FM, but not DITA - in house designed EDD, probably based on docbook, but I'm not sure.  FM9 is completely updated with available patches.
I've tried playing with the different Interface Preferences, to see if that helps - variously having FM open files as tabs to share the same large tabbed window, or turning that off to have them open as individual files in individual windows.  I still cannot get Fit Window to Page to hold consistently.  It's a relatively minor nit, but it is annoying, and gobbles extra time for me to keep resetting the working environment as I like it.  I have set up a workspace for myself, but this doesn't seem to include the zoom settings, only the various palettes/panels and their states and positions.
If anyone knows of or discovers a fix to this issue, your help would be much appreciated.

  • Is it possible to make/get a scrolling list in Muse?

So I have been trying all types of built in widget combining and online searching and am unable to find out how to make a scrollable content area. I want to make a a content area that is 300X600px and has 3 Tabs or something similar at the top. Inside each tab I need to put around 70 300X100px content areas for text/pictures. Obviously I can't put all 70 in there and have it fit in the 600px area, so I need them to be behind everything and simply scroll into view with a scroll bar or scrolling motion on a touch pad. Anyone know how to do this or where to get a widget that could accomplish this?
Something similar to the one found here Rental Listings - All 166003 Rentals - Zillow
    Thanks

You can use tabbed panel for this , where the container will include the content listed and users can scroll the content on page. The tabs can be used to list different contents and categories like the example you have provided.

  • Fixed size regions in Apex 4.0

It is possible to create a fixed size regiion - that is only using half of the screen height to have a report (and having a bar to on the right to move up/down) ?
I'm going to use it for a 2+ master-detail report.
    regards
    Mette

    Hi Mette,
what region template and which theme are you exactly using? For most region templates you can pass in additional style attributes with the "Region Attributes" property in the "Attributes" section of a region definition.
So for example you could use
style=\"height:500px;overflow-y:scroll\"(remove the \ out of the code example)

  • Is it possible to make ALL browsers open at a certain width?

I'm almost finished designing my first (mostly CSS Based) web site home page and I ran into a problem while trying to certify the websites using different browsers.  On all the web page comes up fine (although I haven't test IE 6 and up as I'm on a Mac).  Is it possible to make my complete web page display in the window of all the various browsers without having to manually resize them or atleast define the size of my web page for the browsers?
    Thanks In Advance!!

Never ever presume that your web page must take up my entire screen.  That's considered rude.   My browser settings and preferences are my choice; not yours.
If you want to design web pages that fill the end-user's available viewport without scrollbars, use a liquid or semi-liquid layout in percentages.
    http://alt-web.com/TEMPLATES/3-col-semi-liq-layout.shtml
Alternatively, you can use multiple style sheets & progressive enhancement techniques (media queries) to target specific devices by their width. This is how modern developers are able to support different layouts for smartphones, tablets and desktops.

  • Fixed Size Table

I'm creating an rtf template for a master detail report which will be printed over template papers not white papers, so i want to make a fixed size table lets say of 10 rows for details. When i tried to make a table of 10 rows and put the for each loop statement in first row i got table of details + 9 empty rows !! so please can anyone guide me here.
    Thanks in advance.

Does it really make sense to specify a limit in terms of storage space rather than time? If there is a 500x difference in the number of inserts over the course of an hour, it seems likely to me that users would generally want to keep a certain number of days worth of log information rather than keeping a certain volume in MB. If you ask for a limit in MB, users that use the low rate of inserts would end up with a table so small that if you got to the point of generating lots of records you'd be aging them out far too fast-- those that use the higher rate of inserts would end up with a huge table that has far more history than they need just to accomodate keeping a certain window of log records at the peak.
If you are determined to limit the size of the table, you could potentially run a program periodically that determines the size of each partition (via DBA_SEGMENTS) and then drops the oldest partition if the overall size is too large. But a single partition is likely not to have a huge level of granularity-- you're probably not going to partition by much more than the day, so dropping the oldest partition would purge all the logs for that day. You could potentially get more control over space by not partitioning the table and just deleting the last N rows if you are over the limit, but that probably involves much more frequent checks of space usage and is far, far less efficient in doing the actual deletes.

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5s. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:

  • It´s possible to make different page sizes in the same document?

    hi there familiy,
I´m just learning InDesign (wich it´s fantastic) on line, and i ´d like to know how is possible to change 1 or few pages inside one document o make a flap (for example)? . But I want them to continue facing, to control de design. I know i could do it in different documents, and then mounted in pdf o whatever, but i supossed it´s possible...
Any help?, thanks in advance, sorry for my english, i´m learnig also!,
    cheers,
    nando

If the goal is to make a flap, then you can do this in InDesign. A spread can be any contiguous number of pages, so if your document is generally speaking double-page spreads, you can have a single spread that is composed of three contiguous pages.
To do this, in the Pages palette, select a double-page spread you want to expand. Go to the flyout menu and deselect "Allow selected spread to shuffle." Then drag new page to the left of the left page or to the right of the right page (depending on where your flap is).
    Then you're all set.
Here's a screenshot of the Pages panel:
In this case, I've created a flap to the right of page 3 (numbered page a) and its reverse to the left of page 4 (numbered page b).

  • No more fixed size fonts

    OTN articles like this one:
    http://otn.oracle.com/oramag/oracle/04-
    may/o34cover_feature.html
are using a fixed font size. The page does not respond to the browser View > Text Size menu command. This makes it difficult for me to read. Why not use a relative font size setting like xsmall and then we can resize the font if our eyesight is not so good.
Fixed sized fonts seem to be very popular with webmasters. I guess the View > Text Size option should just be removed from browsers and we can get a magnifying glass.

FWIW, it is possible to increase browser text size when using Mozilla.

  • Hyper-V 2012 R2 - Fixed Size VHDX Have VMs Paused Due to Disk Space Shortage

I am running Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 (Server Core).  I have an SSD boot drive and a 10 Tb Storage Space HDD (Double Pairty - RAID6) where all VMs are stored.
I have one VM setup with an expanding VHDX file.  It is setup with thin provisioning for 2 Tb and about 1.5 Tb is currently used.  The VM paused due to physical disk space (SS drive) being low.  I turned off this VM and tried to start a different
VM that has two fixed size VHDX files (also on the SS drive).  This second VM would not start either.  I got the same error message, as occurred on the first VM, about the physical disk space being low.  There was about 10-20 Mb of physical
space left of my SS HDD when these errors occurred.
Given the first VM is setup with an expanding VHDX that makes sense to me that at some point there may not be enough physical disk space for the VM to expand and continue to run.
But given my second VM is using a fixed VHDX it doesn't make sense to me that I cannot get this VM to start.  Even if the Storage Space disk were completely full I would expect this VM to be able to start?
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.
    Theokrat

    Hi Theokrat,
"The HDD was setup with approximately 5 Tb storage pool as double parity."
"My first VM has a 4 Tb fixed VHDX. Thus there was only about
1 Tb free space left for the second VM."
"And for the VMs I'm asking about I set up those options to point to my HDD which is the D drive."
So, there are two VMs (the first VM has 4TB disk , the
second VM has 1TB disk )and all of the VMs'  files
are stored on the 5TB HDD (the 1TB VHDx is dynamical) .
You turned off the second VM when it was paused due to lacking of disk space (before this the first VM is off ).
When you start the first VM , it still can not start and the error arose again ,right ?
If there is no any other factor led to disk usage increasing , I think the issue might be the startup memory of first VM is larger than or equal to the second VM's .
Please try to check that , if it is true , you can try to set lower memory for the first VM then start it again .
    Best Regards
    Elton JI
