Is it possible to make a photo's resolution too high

I am struggling with printing my christmas photos. I scanned my 8 X 10 photos at 1200 dpi which gave me a 9620 X 11936 file which is 38.3 MB. If I am patient enough...meaning hours of waiting...my PC will print the photos to my HP 1200 dpi printer using the Kodak EasyShare Software. These prints turn out great but it is too painful. iPhoto won't even print to the HP, preview, or save a pdf of them. I just want excellent quality prints and the 600 dpi looks bad. I'm also interested in trying out a book order. Can anyone help me figure out how to print these files? Is it possible to send files this large in for a large hardcover book order? If I need to drop my resolution how can I do it without rescanning? And last, What resolution will give me photo store quality prints from both my printer and if I order prints from the iPhoto program?
G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   imac and tower

then save as TIF or JPEG.
Another really good alternative to TIFF or JPEG is PNG. PNG is a lossless file format that has about half the file size of a TIFF. I've been using it for scanning my slides.
The resolution you should scan at depends on:
1. The actual quality of your scanner. Is it really a full 1200 dpi scanner or is it interpolating to give that resolution. There are some other tricks that scanning software like Silverfast can do to decrease the noise and increase the dynamic range, that have more impact on image quality than sheer number of pixels.
2. The quality and nature of what you're scanning. For an 8x10 photo, 1200 dpi will just show up the grain in the photo paper. Same thing for scanning a 35mm slide at over 1600 dpi -- depending on the film stock, you may hit the resolution of the film before you max out the resolution of the scanner.
3. What you're going to do with the image. Obviously printing a very large print, or cropping down to a small portion of the frame requires more pixels (assuming they have real data in them). Prints from Kodak, etc., on photo paper actually require fewer pixels (150 dpi for the final print size) than printing from your inkjet or a photo book (which uses a halftone screen that does best with about 2x as many pixels as lines in the screen, or about 300 dpi).
Bottom line, the final number of pixels across for your scanned image is more significant than the so-called resolution you scan at. A good quality 1200x1600 pixel image is more than adequate for many purposes.

  • How to make a photo slideshow with next button

Is it possible to make a photo slideshow for a dvd that will use the next button to go forward to the next photo? Can I import a video from another dvd and include it in the same dvd on which I put the photo slideshow? They might fit: 220 mb of photos and the video dvd is 2.6 gb

    Hi arthurav42
Welcome to apple discussions. First thing to mention is that iDvd doesn't look at MB's or file sizes (excluding the dvd-rom section of the dvd). Rather, it looks at QT playback in hours and minutes. We call this total run time and it is not to exceed 2 hours / 120 minutes for a SL Dvd-R (and about twice that for DL).
As to your first question, Is it possible to make a photo slideshow for a dvd that will use the next button to go forward to the next photo? The direct answer is not within iDvd. You'd need apple's pro apps FCS/DVDSP in order to add a next button to individual photos contained within a manual slideshow.
However, one may be able to simulate this feature in iDvd with the use of a graphics app like Adobe PS in which one could add an arrow to any given jpeg / photo. It wouldn't highlight the button itself after it's selected on a remote / clicked but it would move directly to the next image once a person clicks on it (or anywhere else on the image for that matter).
As for the second question, Can I import a video from another dvd and include it in the same dvd on which I put the photo slideshow? ..... Again the answer is yes within DVDSP and not directly within iDvd (you'd need a third party app like DVDXDV from which one can convert to a QT file for use within any of the i-apps or pro apps for that matter like DVDSP). Once converted, simply add the movie to the slideshow feature in iDvd. And yes it's possible to add both photos and movies to the slideshow in iDvd. For example:

Soory, no, it is not possible. You can only combine multiple copies of the same book into one order.

  • Is it possible to make photos with the Ipod nano 5G?

Is it possible to make photos with the Ipod Nano 5G?

No. But you can take a photo of the video with your Mac.
With the iPod connected to your computer, click on the iPod, open the DCIM folder & move the video file onto your desktop. Play the video & when you get to the part you want to take a picture of, put Quicktime on pause. Take a screen shot (appleshift3) or (appleshift4 for cross hair cropping) of the paused video.

  • Problems were detected by lightroom on this photo. It will not be possible to make adjustments on this photo.

problems were detected by lightroom on this photo. It will not be possible to make ad.......

It means exactly what it says. There is something wrong with the photo file, most likely it got corrupted somewhere and now Lightroom can't use it.
Use a backup of the photo, or the original if it is still on the camera card, and see if one of those will work.

  • How to make a photo like this? (footballer)

    Dear All,
I am enclosing a photo that I found in the Internet. This is a footballer photo.
May I know how I can make a photo like this in terms of color and texture in Photoshop? Many thanks!
    Best regards,
    Keith

What you'll want to do is pick a photo with something like a person or an animal in the foreground. Then, use the Lasso tool to trace around the outside. Separate the person and the background into two or more layers, depending on how much you want to change. Up the saturation on the background, and apply a blur under the filter menu. It might just be the angle the photo was taken from, but they could have possibly added a light effect behind him as well. As for the guy, it looks like they upped the contrast and lowered brightness. Since i don't know from what angle the photo was taken, those are the only effects I can say were most likely used.
    Hope this helps,
    Cole

  • Is it possible to create Panoramic photos in Aperture

I know it is possible to create Panoramic photos in PS, but was wondering if it is also possibel in Aperture.

Imho ( ) it is worth understanding the difference between Aperture and programs like it (LR, etc.), and Photoshop.  The difference is compositing.  PS and other Graphics programs are built from the ground up as compositors.  Aperture and its cousins are Digital Asset Managers and digital photo development tools.  You use Aperture to manage your collection of digital photos, and to make any one photo into the best version possible for whatever use you have.  Then you export your digital photos from Aperture, and use them in graphics programs to create new graphics.
In general, if you are combining things (text, geometric primitives, multiple graphic elements, etc.), you use a graphics program; if you are optimizing a photo for a particular use, you can do it using Aperture.
For panoramas, I import the photos I'm going to use into Aperture, Stack them and add a color label (so I can see at a glance that these Images are part of that kind of series), check the WB, the export them to a temporary Finder folder.  I use Hugin to open all the exported files and stitch them together.  Then I import the panorama I created using Hugin and place it as the Stack Pick of the Stack, and make whatever additional adjustments I want for the use I have for the panorama.

  • Is it possible to store all photos in an external drive? How do I do it?

I have too many photos to store in my MacBook. Is it possible to store all photos in an external drive and still use iPhoto (or Aperture) to view them all?

Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • How do I make a photo box

When insert my photos into theme preset photo boxes my photos don’t fit the proportions of the box and get cropped. Part of the photo cannot be seen. I see how one can make a text box in Keynote, but how can one make a photo box that is different then standard dimensions within the themes? Or is it possible to change the proportions of the ones already created within the themes?
    Thank you!

Never mind. I fiured it out. All I have to do is remove the mask.

  • Is it possible to make a text box cycle/rotate through text, like a slide show does?

Is it possible to make a text box cycle through 3 or 4 separate pieces/groups of text, like a slide show does with photos? So that when I open my site a text area says "Statement 1", then 10 seconds later it changes to "Statement 2", then 10 seconds later it chagnes to "Statement 3", etc.
Its that possible with a text box? My desire is to have 3 or 4 testimonials that change every 10 seconds.
You can see that right now it's a single testimonial:

    All help is appreciated
    Thanks!

Right.  Some plugins have zip file downloads while others are just copy & paste.
In DW, go to File > New > Blank page > JavaScript.
Copy & paste the Cycle plugin code into your new JS page.
SaveAs   cycle.2.9.81.js  in whichever site folder you normally keep scripts.
Link your HTML page to your new cycle script:
Insert > Script > Script (browse to folder containing your cycle script). Hit OK.
Don't forget to add a link to the jQuery core library, too.  Plugins don't work without it.

  • Is it possible to make one page of your website private?

i have a public website but want to make one photo page password protected so i can test the images out with select friends (artwork). is this possible or is password for the entire site only?

No. But you can create a second site with those photos, protect it and link to it from your public site.
You can even have the page of the protected site appear in the navbar of your public site this way:
1 - create and publish the protected site
2 - in your public site create a blank page and name it for the protected page.
2 - add an HTML snippet with the following code to the blank page:
    <script type="text/javascript">
parent.window.location = "URL TO SITE/PAGE YOU WANT TO REDIRET TO"; </script>
Thanks to Cyclosaurus for the code
When a visitor clicks on the link in the public site they will be immediately redirected to the protected site/page. You can add a similar blank page to the protected site to send visitors back to the public site.
The Contents page of my demo sites (3 of them) are setup that way. I only have to edit one page (in the Contents site) instead of the Contents page of each of the three demo sites. Go to this page in Demo_1 (Embedtests) and click on the Contents link. Watch the URL field as you're taken to the Contents page.
