Is it possible to make my iMac take a photo when it is awoken from sleep or on login?

It may be a silly question but i know that some desktops have the capabilities of taking photos when it has been woken up, now it is possible to do it on my iMac 27"?????????
thanks

Yes or you would have to learn yourself. Another possiblity is using Automator however I am not sure if that would work for sure. While it is easier the AppleScript it's still challenging to use.

I tightened all HD screws and it didn't help. With the machine running and side of the case off, I physically stopped both the video card fan and the front case fan with my finger for a couple seconds and the noise continued. I also took all hard drives out one by one and rebooted each time. Again, the noise continued until I took out the Mac HD in Bay 1, rebooted, and I had a very quiet, silent machine. The issue is the hard drive in bay 1 that shipped with the computer, it's without a doubt causing the hum/woosh sound. I still need to know if I can safely swap the Mac HD from bay 1 to bay 4 without any issues to the operating system. I would like to try that to see if it dampens the noise but I also want to make sure this swap won't screw up my machine at all.

  • Is it possible to use software limits on 7354 board when switching control modes from open to closed or closed to open loop?

Is it possible to use software limits on 7354 board when switching control modes from open to closed or closed to open loop?

    Hello Richard,
When you say 'open loop' and 'closed loop', are you referring to running the application in position and torque mode? If not, how exactly are your controlling a servo motor in open loop?
In closed loop mode, the encoder values will be used as reference and the motion VIs can be used to configure the software limit as required. Are you currently losing the software limits? If so, how exactly are you losing these values? I am not sure I understood what exactly is happening with software limits in your program, so any more information on this would be useful.

  • My iMac has suddenly become very slow to wake from "sleep." Why? How can I fix this?

My iMac has suddenly become very slow to wake from "sleep." How do I fix this and what is causing the problem? Even the mouse wakes very slowly.

    Try these basic troubleshooting steps.
    1. Quit all app scompletely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    2. Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    3. Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • My imac has a gray screen when waking it up from sleep mode. about 9 months ago, I installed OS X Maverick.

This is the second time this has happened, since installing OS X (9 mos. ago). (I can't recall the fix from the last incident.) Upon waking the pc up from sleep mode, I get a gray screen. Nothing works except using the Command and P & R keys to get to "reinstalling OS X", to no avail. What do I need to do to get it back to normal?
My imac is a 21.5", mid 2011 item.

Those keys do not reinstall OS X. To do that:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
COMMAND-OPTION-P-R keys resets the PRAM. OS X keyboard shortcuts.

  • My macbook air does not automatcially connect to wifi any longer when i turn on from sleep, how can i make it connect automatically again

My macbook air will no longer connect to my wifi automatically, I have changed the preferences to automatically selecr known networks but everytime i open the macbook air or after i restart the macbook, i will need to manually l select the wifi. How do I re-config to automatically connect to my wifi. Thanks

Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved. Make sure the box marked
Remember networks this computer has joined
    is checked.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading
Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet
    3. Reset the PRAM.
    4. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    5. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    6. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    7. Repair permissions on the startup volume.
    8. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    9. Reset the System Management Controller.
    10. This step shouldn't be necessary, but has been advised by Apple Support in some cases, apparently as a workaround for a bug. Open the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences. If applicable, click the padlock icon in the lower left corner to unlock the settings. Enter your administrator login password when prompted.
Select the Power Adapter tab and uncheck the boxes marked
    Wake for Wi-Fi network access
    and
    Enable Power Nap...
if present. Then, if the computer is a MacBook, select the Battery tab and uncheck
    Enable Power Nap...
    11. Reinstall OS X.

  • Macbook Pro takes forever to boot, won't wake from sleep

Hey guys, I've done a lot of searching and troubleshooting and haven't been able to find anything that really fixes this problem. Essentially, my Macbook Pro (~2008) is taking forever (10ish minutes) to load. It hangs for a while on both the grey apple screen as well as on the blue screen before login. I just did a clean install of OSX Leopard and have been hesistant to upgrade to Snow Leopard or Lion again until I fix this problem.  I have a backup of all data.
Below is my recent boot log. Thanks so much for your help!

Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you have a minimum of 15% free disk space.
    Check for Login Items
Open System Preferences/Accounts then select the Login Items tab. Delete any files or apps you have listed there.
And go to /Library/Startup Items. Move any files in the Startup Items folder to the Trash
If there's enough disk space and login items aren't an issue, launch Disk Utility. The startup disk may need repairing.
Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Select: Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions).
If the disk needs repairing >

  • My elderly iMac (about six years old) won't wake from sleep after an electrical failure today, and starts up with a black screen.

This Intel iMac is about six years old, has had the motherboard replaced by Apple.  Today we had an electrical failure, and it was asleep at the time.  It refused to wake from sleep, and it seems to start up, but the screen stays black.  I tried zapping the PRAM, shutting it down and turning off the surge protector, etc. . .  and still, nothing.  Any thoughts?

If http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) does not work and you are comfortable working in the Terminal, try the following:
Enter into the Terminal the following: sudo pmset autopoweroff 0 and sudo pmset standby 0
If you like the hibernation, you can switch it back on by re-entering the commands with 1's instead of 0's. You can even change the amount of time by adjusting "autopoweroffdelay" and "standbydelay".

  • Is it possible to wipe out iMac with ML upgrade and THEN reinstall SL from disk, back up with TM?

Iv'e been going round and round with my iMac ever since Genius bar employees "upgraded" me to ML while replacing Seagate HD per the recall. THis is a late 2009 27-inch iMac that came with SL.
What I think might solve this once and for all is to completely wipe out the hard drive and THEN reinstall SL from the disk that was shipped to me by Apple.
Here's what has happened thus far:
    1. iMac was working fine, but per emails from Apple, replacing the Seagate HD that came with the computer was advised. Made appt, took it in after backing up to external hard drive.
    2. Picked up  the iMac first week of August. Found that they had upgraded me to ML.
    3. Proceeded to put back contents of backup from July 27 (before the hard drive was replaced, all saved in SL).
    4. Immediately after back up was reinstalled, realized that iPhoto contents (ALL of my saved files/photos, movies, etc, both work and personal) are inaccessible. Also, fan will not stop running (and this is true even when there is no user signed in, ie, no CPU-intensive programs running). Programs that worked in SL no longer work with ML (iWeb, etc).
    5. Have been in  contact with Apple numerous times, and finally got a senior tech to work with me via phone. I had a SL disk borrowed from a friend (the 27-inch was a replacement for original iMac that was defective and never received any install disks with new iMac Jan 2010). Per instructions from Apple tech, backed up iMac, then tried to reinstall with SL disk. When the progress wheel only kept spinning, he said that the disk I was using must be incompatible and I waited for a replacement SL install disk to be mailed to me.
    6. Called back when I got the new SL disk, and then we tried it again. When the progress did the same thing, ie just spinning, Apple tech said that I must have a hardware problem and he instructed me to make another appoitment with the Genius bar. I did that and am supposed to take it in tonight.
    7. Apple tech said it  must be a hardware problem, that the super drive would not read the install disk, BUT, the super drive (actually both of them, one inside the machine, one external super drive  purchased separately) has no problems reading audio CDs. It is ONLY the SL reinstall disk.
That, along with the continually running fans that have also been deemed by Apple tech to be bad hardware (which were both fine before the upgrade to ML) make me think that it is the ML software that does not work properly with this late 2009  iMac. It was designed for SL, not  ML.
I suspect that if the hard drive on the iMac is completely wiped clean and SL then reinstalled with the disk that was mailed to me, this would put my machine back in order with SL as the OS.
I'd like to try that BEFORE I take this iMac back to the Apple Store. I have the back up from July (before ML was put on as the OS) and that's what I'd like to put back on. I can more easily save  jpegs that were savde after ML was put on as the OS than I can save everything (one by one) that was on this iMac from Jan 2010 till July 2013.
Is there anyone who can give me a yes or no, whether this would work or not? Wipe it all out, start fresh with a new SL installation and back up from that July 2013 backup?

Yes it is. That is why you got a set of reinstal disc with your Mac. For just this purpose.
But if you have a 2009 model it might of come with Leopard. But you should still be able to use that reinstall disc or the retain Snow Leopard DVD you used to upgrade to SL to restore your Mac from a Time Machine backup.
First you need to boot the system from either the original reinstall DVD or the retail SL DVD and use Disk Utility to Repartition the drive as One Partition. you MUST do that to get rid of the Mt Lion Recovery HD partition. Once that is done there should be an option to Restaore your Mac from a TM backup. Have the backup drive connected before you start the system from the Reinstall DVD, either of them whichever you chose.

  • Booting my iMac takes much longer when Behringer FCA 202 is attached....

    Hi,
just curious if anyone has a clue for this one: my iMac boots within half a minute, when my Behringer FCA 202 firewire audio interface is NOT connected.
When I connenct it, booting takes more than a minute.
When I boot in verbose mode, it says (amongst others):
kextd[31]: kextdwatchvolumes: couldn't set up diskarb sessions
kextd[31]: diskarb isn't ready yet: we'll try again soon
My theory is that the iMac thinks ithe FCA 202 is a firewire disk instead of an audio interface, and therefore tries to connect to this "drive".
By the way, the FCA 202 works fine
Is there a way to make the computer boot faster???
    Thanks!
    Regards,
    Jaap

Then I suggest you contact the people who make the audio device and tell them. Your theory about thr firewire disk maybe true, however if it is taking a long time to boot up, I 'expect' from experience of hardware devices, that the OS does indeed detect the device and is simply waiting for a response that it never gets.
Usually in this case the OS (or the driver that is trying to query the device) simply 'times out' and then continues on - so it is as if an expected response is not forthcoming.
You should be able to see this quite easily for instance if when you boot up hold down ctrl-v (this turns off the normal mac boot up screen and shows you 'under the hood') if the device is hanging at boot then you should see the messages stop scrolling while the device is detected.
This information, if you are interested, will be held in your logs on your mac.
Simply 'hoping' the bug gets fixed (if that is indeed what it is) won't get it fixed if no one reports it.

  • Is it possible to make a signature file using photo booth?

I"ve heard it's possible to use Photo Booth to make a usable signature for documents. How do you do it?

What type of documents?  Exactly what do you want to do with Photo Booth.  It does both movies and static pictures.  Which do you want to add?

  • Is it possible to make a calculated field only appear when the result is greater than 0?

I am using Adobe Acrobat X Standard.  I have created a form that has caculated fields.  However, the fields always show the "$0.00" when it doesnt have anything to calculate.  I would only like a result to appear in this field when the result is greater than 0.  Is this possible?

The use of currency and percentage signs always behave this way since the display format is a character string and not a plain number.
You will have to use some custom JavaScript in the Custom JS calculation, the custom format format, or the validation script.
There is not a lot of documentation for this, but Acrobat JavaScripting Guide Version 6 has some infromation about usin the AFNumber_Format built-in function.
If your users are using version 8 or below, you will need to adjust the format of the field.

  • Partitioned iMac 27, HD2 set to be isolated from Internet, suddenly when HD2 is revived from sleep, it makes an Internet connection. All settings are the same, Network shows Ethernet is unplugged, but the indicator on modem shows connection.  Why?

Original set up 4 years ago stated no Internet connection HD2, it was fine until now.   What can I do about this?  Thanks.

What I tried first was restoring all those files in that folder to a week before the problem, to no avail.  When I was trying to find what was going on, I tested the coming out of sleep again with the Network window open.   The light started flashing, for 4-5 seconds, and then the little Network window jumped visibly, and the connection light went off.  Great, I thought, until I noticed that the iV4 had been switched from Off to DHCP, and I looked inside in Advanced, and it was the same there, when I had them both turned "off" for absolute certain.  This is a pro assault, and so from now on I am just doing a manual disconnect for all time except when I need  it on HD.  Do you know of any app to disconnect from the Internet?  Windows had one on my last computer, and that was very convenient.  I am concerned that unplugging all the time will affect the socket, and that is a major problem to get that repaired.  This is not a portable.  Why? you say.  Let me put it this way.  There is no such thing as freedom of speech in Canada.  If you speak out against government or institutional policies, that is is it for life, and the laws don't mean anything.  Thanks.

  • IMac Mid 2010 kernel panic after wake up from sleep mode

    Hello.
One month ago starting my iMac Mid 2010 occasionally goes to kernel panic. When I click on mouse or press any key, system starting up, but very very slowly, (time on logon screen stay same without refresh) and after few minutes (from 1 - 10 minutes) kernel panic message is appear on screen. I have Mac OS 10.7.5 version installed.
Is there any tool to debug what is wrong. Windows OS has WinDebuger to detaily look inside to core dump and analyze it and in my experience almost allways is possible to detect root of problem.
First of all i was try HW diagnostic from DVD, succesfully passed. Then I run Permission Repair procedure, there were many folders and files with different ACL as system expected.
It is possible that graphic card driver is wrong or has bug from my point of laic view.
I have minimum application with kext installed into system:
    VMware fusion
    NTFS-3g ( long time same version )
There is part of long kernel panic message:

  • IMac 27" Static Flicker when using Displayport In from Macbook Pro

    Hi all,
    Sorry about the long title
I have a late 2009 27" iMac with ATI 512Mb 4850 card and 8Gb RAM. I also have a 2011 Macbook Pro that I connect to the iMac via Displayport to use it as a screen.
The iMac sometimes displays an annoying flicker and "static" like screen issues when displaying the Macbook Pro screen. This does not happen all the time but seems to be more prevelant when I have had the machines on for a long time, or if I use them in the morning after they have been asleep through the night.
I've tried the cable (a Belkin one) both ways round and have tried wiggling it at certain points to see if that changes the static but nothing happens. I have also purchased a cable from Apple, but I did not realise it would only work for Thunderbolt drives, not displays.
I have a video of the issue here:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/1nkykc8j13qg9px/2012-04-13%2014.32.38.mov
    Any ideas?
The only thing that I have chaged about the iMac since purchase is I now run the OS on an external Firewire drive as the internal HD sounds like it's failing (it makes a very loud seeking noise ALL THE TIME and slows down a lot when the machine has been on for a while. The external drive does not do this).
    Thanks
    Ryan

    Hi, sparky96,
I do not have a satisfactory solution. The best I can do, as a work-around, is adjusting the iMac to its brightest setting, moving the MacBook Pro brightness several notches darker, and then aiming for a compromise in the image I'm working on.
As a result, I have no idea what someone else sees on his or her computer. However, that might be the case even if I could match the images on my two Macs. Others might have PCs that display reds as browns, for all I know. I do know that when I view a video on YouTube, it looks more or less the same on each of my computers. The human eye seems to make its own interpretive adjustments.
I have similar problems preparing artwork for printing. No matter what I do to calibrate the displays, the output from my various printers never looks right, and when I get back a book cover that's been printed on an offset press, I'm happy if it's reasonably close to what I get from my desktop printers.
I wish Apple, and Adobe, and Hewlett-Packard, and commercial printers and the whole industry would devise some kind of universal standards -- but I doubt that will ever happen.
