Is it possible to make Safari the default browser on my iPhone?

I'm wondering if there's a way I can configure my iPhone such that when I open a hyperlink in a downloaded app, it goes to Safari rather than the in-app browser. I want Safari to be the default browser for all apps (both native and third-party). How can this be done?

It's a matter of the app. Some apps give you the option to open the link in Safari or in app browser. iFooty is one of them.

  • How do you make Firefox the default browser when the normal way doesnt work?

Im trying completely from chrome after a friend showed my how much firefox has got its act together. However i cant for the life of me set it as the default browser. I have tried the "make firefox the default browser" button in firefox, which simply opens the windows default programs panel. Whenever i try to use the panel it simply sets the http protocol to nightly which isnt even installed!( http://puu.sh/2vJHM ) I think a possible fix would be to manually change the registry, but i wouldnt know where to start.

Did you check the box on ''Options > Advanced > General >[X] "Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup"?
Have you restarted Firefox and if so, or when you do so, what does that section on the advanced Firefox options show?
Have you tried restarting your system after setting the default browser using the second suggestion and, after restart, check the setting per the second suggestion to see if that setting is holding?
Updating your Plugins would have no affect on the default browser question. It was something that you needed to do to avoid security issues online by using an out of date version of Java. Java is not involved in the default browser issue. That is why I separated it from the first part of the reply with a line and began with the word "Other".

  • How to make Firefox the default browser for Hotmail

I recently uninstalled Safari because I want to use Firefox as my default browser. Previously when I click the Mail button in Windows Live Messenger, the mac would automatically open my hotmail in Safari. Now that I have uninstalled it, when I click on the Mail button, it opens up with TextEdit. How do I make it open with Firefox?
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Joe

OK I'll post there also but I'm aware of the preferences section in Safari... thing is, when I choose to make Firefox the default browser, it resets back to Safari when I turn off the computer and turn it back on. Everytime. And it does my head in
I heard of a program called More Internet that I heard could help slove the problem but I can't understand how to use it, nor is there any forum or any way to contact anyone who knows. It's driving me up the wall.
So I'm hoping there's another way that someone in the world knows.

  • HT1338 Why can I not make Safari my default browser? I did what it said to click on it and accept, but it does not happen.

This is my question.  Why can't I make Safari my default browser.  I have followed directions, but it does not happen.

Not sure what procedure you are describing, but...
In Safari preferences General tab, for the Default web browser setting, select Safari.

  • How do I make Firefox the default browser in a non-administrative Windows XP account, where clicking to do so has no effect?

I have two accounts for myself on my PC running Windows XP. In the administrative account, Firefox is already the default browser that opens when I double-click an HTML file, etc. Firefox knows it's the default browser there.
In my other account, every time I start Firefox, it tells me it's not the default browser. Clicking there to make it the default, or in the options, does nothing.
When I go to Set Program Access and Defaults in the administrative account, "Use my current Web browser" is selected. Mozilla Firefox is not listed as an option. In my non-administrative account, the Add or Remove Programs control panel can't be used. It says I don't have permission.

To check that in the other account you would have to give it temporarily administrator permissions.

hello cole_l, yes - please see [[Make Firefox the default browser on Android]] for instructions.

  • Why does Firefox make itself the default browser when it upgrades?

I deal with a lot of pages that aren't standards compliant and have to be rendered in IE, so my "default browser" is a tiny app that examines each URL and sends some to IE and the rest to Firefox. Every time there's a new version of firefox, it makes itself the "default browser" and now all of my non-compliant pages try to open in firefox, so I have to dig into the windows settings once again and tell it to use my app to open HTML documents. The "Always check to see if firefox is the default browser at startup" is not checked.
This happens each time a new version comes out, and has been happening for over a year.

Sorry, I can't answer as to exactly '''why''', but maybe it has to do with the fact that every new version of Firefox has a new '''firefox.exe''' file installed - even the "minor version" security updates.

  • Google search in MacOS - how to make firefox the default browser?

    Hi there!
I tried to address my issue looking in the forum as well as other websites; not too fruitful.
In most of the applications in MacOS, let's say in mail, when you open an email and select a word or a sentence, ctrl+click, you can "search in google" for what is highlighted.
Although my default web browser is Firefox (everytime I click a URL, firefox opens), every time I use the 'search in google' option, safaris pops up.
Any hints? any way to get the OS to search in google using firefox by default?
    Thanks!

no. this particular function is hard coded into OS X apps like Mail. it therefore doesn't matter what your default browser is, google search will always use safari.
    Thanks!

  • How do I make Firefox the browser but not make it the default browser?

I want to use Firefox as the browser on some sites but not all. I don't want to make either Firefox or Internet Explorer as a default browser but use each on certaion web sites such as Google or MSN.

For your choice of default browser, think about the one you want to handle links in other programs, such as word processors, Adobe Reader, or an external email program. Windows will use your default browser to open those links.
Then when you want to visit a site in a preferred browser, open that browser and use its bookmarks or favorites to get there.

  • How to make "none" the default filter on your iPhone camera.

Some users have complained that the default filter of all pictures taken with their iPhone 5 camera has mysteriously changed to one or the other of the various filters available other than "none" (i.e., usual full-color) version they want.  I can't find that string again, hence this new item.
I had the same problem, and believe I have solved it this way:
    1. Take a picture.
    2.  Find it the usual way in Photos - Camera Roll.  Presumably it's the wrong filter.
    3.  Click on Edit.  Click on the intertwined-color-circles icon at the bottom to reveal all the filters.
    4.  Scroll over to None and change it to that.  Save the picture.
    5.  Key thing (I think):  REBOOT YOUR PHONE.  (I happen to do it by pressing the on-off button at the top and the depressed home key at the bottom a the same time; do it however you wish.)
    6.  When you next shoot a photo, it should be in "None" mode (as the default).
    Good luck.

OR tap the icon at the bottom right and choose none.

  • How do I make google the default browser

When Mozilla opens I begin typing my search into the google search bar at the top right hand corner. As Mozilla continues loading it moves my search into the yahoo search engine in the middle of the page. I always get two or three letters typed into the google and the rest types into yahoo which really changes my search. I don't want to remove yahoo because my husband uses that but I want Google to be the primary unless I select the yahoo search box.

Sorry just I meant Firefox instead of IE. Always used IE in the past until this laptop was updated with Mozilla. Problem the same just replace firefox for IE in complaint

  • Make Safari become the default browser vs. IE

Is it possible to make Safari the default browser instead of IE so when I click on Mail in the taskbar, Mail opens in Safari rather than Internet Explorer?

so I am going to accept this truth.
    Thank you,

No.  That's a browser-specific function.  In fact, it's much better
to make the scrollbar visible on ALL pages than it is to try to hide
them on some pages.  You can make the scrollbar always visible
(thereby preventing the content on longer pages from shifting left
when the scrollbar appears) with this simple CSS -

    html { overflow-y:scroll; }

  • When I click a link in email client (apple mail), it does not open in firefox. I have checked both Firefox and Safari and Firefox is the default browser.

When clicking a link in either apple mail or even from a word document, nothing happens.

Try to redo the default browser and make another browser like Safari the default and then let Firefox do it again.

  • Acrobat X: Can you make 'open' the default option when opening sharepoint documents?

When you open a sharepoint document with acrobat X, you get the pop-up screen asking you how you want to access the file. The option are 'check out and open', or just 'open'.
Is it possible to make 'open' the default access methode, so that you don't have to click on the pop-up for every document?

    Hi Deedee,
No, it's not really possible to set this default.
That said, there's a registry key setting you can change to disable the SharePoint integration feature though.
    They key is:
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\(product name)\(version)\FeatureLockdown\cSharePoint
Summary: Disables the SharePoint integration features.
Details:  Controlls the application's ability to detect that a file came from a Sharepoint server, disables the check-out prompt, and removes the SharePoint specific menu items. Possible values include:
0: Disable the SharePoint integration features.
1: Same as "null." Don't disable the SharePoint integration features.
This may not really fit your need though.
