When accessing stories with all browsers closed for example, on Yahoo, the article(s) open in my default browser which is Firefox. Is it possible to establish the Private Browsing Firefox as default somehow?

You can put Firefox in permanent private browsing mode.

Is it possible to make the document window not to hide behind the palettes (layers, paths etc) like in CS5? For instance if I want to make a correction in the right part of the image and zoom in, the window expand under the different palettes and I can no longer see the area which I want to correct without change the document window size. I don't want to use the Photoshop application fram because then I can't see stuff in other applications ID, mail an so on.

Generally, you shouldn't need to zoom; you can pre-set the display of message text.
To get straight to the point, you should probably try the https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/theme-font-size-changer/ add-on to address issues with the size of the message list font.

Is it possible to make the pasteboard and menus not so dark?

We just upgraded to the new CC version of Indesign. Is it possible to make the paste board and menus/palletes white, or at least not so dark? It is very difficult to see darker colors in the color palette. The high contrast between the dark pasteboard and the white page gives me a splitting headache.

It's not necessarily the best way, but depending on the image content, you might be able to get an acceptable result with the options under Object > Clipping Path...
EDIT: So technically, the answer to your question is: No, but you can apply a clipping path to hide the background.
Also, again depending on the image content, as well as the underlying content, it might be possible to use blend modes in the Effects panel to render the background transparent.
Background removal is best done in Photoshop, where the image can then be saved as .PSD and its native transparency will be honored when placed in InDesign.

I did a rough mix and now cannot change the song as the tracks that were a part of the rough mix seem to remain in the song even though I mute the tracks for a new mix. For instance, I played and recorded a different bass line. Muted the original, but when trying to create the new mix I can hear the original bass line even though I have muted that track. It seems to remain in the previous master (default) track. Please send help. Thank you.

Before answering your question, you have to make sure you understand the difference between the different track types in GarageBand.
Tracks, you record your music on
There are three types of those Tracks.
MIDI Tracks (aka Software Instrument Tracks)
Audio Tracks (aka Real Instrument Tracks)
Drummer Track (only one per Project)
Global Tracks
These are the Tracks that can be shown/hidden at the top of the Tracks Area for specific purposes.
Arrangement Track
Movie Track
Transposition Track
Tempo Track
Master Track
This Track can also be shown/hidden in the Tracks Area. Please note, you cannot delete that Track, only hide it, similar to the Global Tracks
Regarding the Tracks you record your music on, you can delete any of those. It doesn't matter if you created them or there are part of a Template (maybe that is what you refer to as the default track). Once you delete the last Track, the "New Track Window" will pop up to add a new track.
I will explain all that in much more detail in my manual "GarageBand X - How it Works".

In our batch environment we drop/create lots of tables as follows - CREATE TABLE X NOLOGGING PCTFREE 0 PARALLEL AS SELECT .........
Since the tables get created from scratch every time and don't get updated - we use PCTFREE 0 to minimize space usage and speed up overall IO.
Today - we specify the PCTFREE 0 clause in every CTAS - so that Oracle won't use the default.
Is there a way to make the default "0" database wide so that we have one less clause to specify?

They really are Global Temporary Tables in functionality - they are part of a daily ETL cycle - but the users would like for them to stick around for 24 hours for "after the fact" analysis of issues - being able to step through table after table - long after the session / process are done. Hence - they are DROP/CREATed every day.
No - statistics aren't collected - it takes precious time. There are no indexes - so 99% of the time the tables are Full Table Scanned and the Hash Joined - which the optimizer is sensible enough to chose 99% of the time.
We run Nologging and NoArchivelogging - so we are spared the triple writes (Data/Log/arch) - so Billion row tables are ETLed very quickly on the modest hardware we can avail ourselves.
PCTFREE 0 saves space, reduces block count, and speeds up IO - and with tables DROP/CREATED it helps the cause.
Thanks for the tip about inheriting PCTFREE from the tablespace. I'll check it out.

Is it possible to change the default URL when creating new hyperlinks?

I'm currently working to take a 128 page catalog that was created in InDesign for print and turn it into a interactive PDF to post on our companies website. The catalog contains thousands of part numbers and I'd like to link each one to its corresponding stock status page on our website that gives current availability and pricing for any particular customer.
So say I'm dealing with part number "XXXX". When I go to add the hyperlink the default web address it spits out is " http://XXXX ". Instead of that, would it be possible to change the default to " http://forums.adobe.com/discussion/XXXX/1 ". Obviously I just used this website as an example, but it would save so much time if I could avoid having to type the exact same URL every time.
Or maybe is there a quicker way to do this other than what I am currently trying?

We have Apple Remote desktop and network home folders with managed prefs but i don't seem to be able to use either of these to change the default language of all of our macs to "British English".
is there a UNIX command that can do this?

The simple way is via the Internationalization settings via ARD or RDP or Screen Sharing, either via System Preferences or (if enabled) via the menu bar. If you're looking for a lower-level approach, there's not AFAIK a direct command for this. I'm SAP Basis guy, I've been asked by our functional team if it would be possible to change the default spool request title.
Our endusers have access to transaction SP01, where every morning, they can see the spools request that have been generated during the execution of night batches.
Currently, the default spool name is displayed :
Title or name of spool request LIST1S LOCL ZREPORTSUFFIX (in transactions sm37 and sp01)
Is it possible to change the default name of this spool request with some abap coding ?

goto transaction SPAD and change the default values as you require but i doubt whether you would be able to change the spool title after the job has been triggered i think it is nt possible
but for further requests you can change it from SPAD

Is it possible to set the default colours in the swatches palette in Illustrator CS4? What I mean is replace the swatches default colour palette with my own, so that each time I create a new document it comes up with my colours rather than Illustrators.

You might also consider using color groups with Illustrator. Let me know what you think. It may help you out with projects that use the same color preferences.

Make the default probes smarter

Custom probes are great, however unlike the default probes you do not always have them with you...so why not just make the default probes just a tad smarter? - The array probe e.g. should not just show a single cell - it should by default show at least some of them (1*10 for 1D, 10*10 if 2D etc. e.g.), have it's scrollbars visible and be resizable? You could add some core information about the array, like it's size e.g. in an indicator on the top as well....and perhaps have a pull-down menu for the display format. Keep it general and simple of course, but a bit more convenient than today's probe. - The string probe should also be resizable and have a control that let's you switch the display format. - etc.

We have reached a point of "minimum return on investment" for custom probes. Although there are still plenty of tweaks that could be made to the probes for individual data types, the request for improved probe functionality is but one request among a sea of requests from our users, and it is generally better for R&D to focus on the items that cannot be done by our users rather than by popularizing customizations that can be done by users. This is a constant problem for a wide range of LabVIEW features, custom probes being only one of many. As LV's existing feature list gets longer, R&D faces a constant struggle between introduction of new features (which is what drives short-term sales and upgrades), incremental improvements of existing features (which drives the perception of stability and usability and thus long-term sales and upgrades), and tuning LV for various niche customers (which drives both long and short-term). On the custom probes front, I would suggest that instead of posting a request for R&D to improve the custom probes that instead you post individual VIs that you would like to see us ship as default custom probes. These VIs should be free from any intellectual property restrictions (read the Terms of Use [linked at bottom of page] for details about VIs that you post). Then the community can kudos individual custom probes. Collecting popular VIs and shipping them with LV is a more productive use of our time than trying to guess what the most useful customizations are and trying to ship them, hoping that the beta feedback is enough to let us know whether we got it right or not. If you do start posting these, in order that we can identify all the ideas that are specifically new custom probes for us to evaluate, consider using the convention of naming your idea "New Custom Probe: XYZ.vi" or "New Custom Probe: XYZ.llb" (the second for times when you have a whole batch of custom probes in a single idea... they should generally be on related data types or else be posted as separate ideas). If you take this route, I think you'll have a lot more success both at getting R&D to pick up the idea AND at getting custom probes added that you actualy find useful. Just to be clear: I'm not saying R&D has no responsibility for improving the probes. We do. But our attention over time becomes more and more divided, and having the community post the VIs themselves rather than us developing those VIs is more likely to be a successful strategy in the short run than waiting for enough issues to pile up such that it becomes a top priority worthy of allocating an R&D developer to the project.

Calendar sync problem: "the default service for your device's calendar has changed..."

When I go to sync, this window pops up: "The default service for your device's 'Calendar' has changed since the last time you synchronized. Click OK to use your new default service and combine your data, which might duplicate some entries. Click Cancel to stop...."

Yes, I sync with Outlook. From what I understand, your default service should be your e-mail address for both mail & calendar.Spell Check

If you want to order the records there are some Knowledge Module tweaks to specify an order by clause using the UD1 -> UD5 flags on a datastore. Search the forum or google for the code.
