Is it possible to manage 3-4 iPods from the same laptop?  Each iPod owner needs their own iTunes account, correct?

I've used an iPod for many years, and now that my kids are old enough to enjoy their own, with their own music, I want to to buy each one their own shuffle.  I just don't know if it's possible to manage all of these different music libraries from one computer.  Any advice is appreciated.  Thanks, Jim

Entirely possible.  If you create a different Windows login for each user, then everyone will have a distinct library by default, located in:
C:\Users\user1/Music\iTunes
C:\Users\user2/Music\iTunes
etc.
In this scenario it is a good idea to disable fast user switching in iTunes, so that you can't have multiple users logged in and running iTunes at the same time.  This is probably the best solution, especially as it provides the simplest upgrade path to the time when your children have their own computers.  The only real downside here is that it is a little more difficult (and not automatic) to share music between the libraries.
You can also have multiple iTunes libraries under a single Windows login, though this is a little more awkward to set up and use - everyone will need to hold down SHIFT while starting iTunes and select his/her library based on the location of the appropriate iTunes database file.
Last option would be to have one Windows login, one iTunes library, and just use different playlists associated with each user's iPod.

  • Can I run two different ipods from the same laptop?

Hi, I am very new to all this. Is it possible to have two different ipods running from itunes on the same computer. If it is how do I separate them so when I connect and ipod it doesn't sync both lots of music.
    Please Help me
    Thanks
    Hoolie

I'm currently syncing three iPods to the same library. iTunes will recognize each iPod as a unique device. My preferred method of managing my iPods is "Sync Selected Playlists". This allows me the convinience of syncing (and all my ratings, playcounts and last played sync) while still being able to control what goes on each iPod. You can set your preferences for each iPod. You could managage one manually and sync the other. Whatever works best for you.

  • My kids, wife, and I each have our own ipods, can we share one family itnes or do each of us need our own itunes account for our own devices?

You can all share one iTunes account/library!

  • 2 computers, 5 family members with their own iTunes accounts. How do we share purchased iTunes and downloaded CDs with homeshare? (I can't get my old iPod music to all go onto my iPad)

    I have 2 computers - Windows Based
My husband, myself and the kids all have our own "accounts" on the home computer. This was done to limit certain access when the kids were younger.
The laptop is pretty much mine. I use both computers for my iTunes music.
Everyone has their own iTunes account for their music and games. I have been able to get music purchased by my other family members on my iPod in the past if I logged in the home computer under their IDs and attached my iPod. Or, if a family member downloaded a CD, I could get that music thes same way without having to download the CD again under my own login ID. However, I now have an iPad, and I can't transfer music from the iPod to the iPad - specifically that which was downloaded from CDs - not iTunes. And I couldn't get it to go from my iPod to my laptop, although both are authorized computers in the Home Sharing.
It doesn't seem like the Home Sharing works with the different computer login IDs. The iTunes is universally available regardless of who is logged in, but the libraries vary based on who's user name you are under. I have strugged with importing from one User ID to another, which led me to simply log in under a different family member to get the desired music. There has got to be an easier answer and I'm just not figuring it out.
I've read the support answers, I've read many of the other responses here as well to those with similiar questions, but I am still struggling.
    Any suggestions?

If you are completely confident that you didn't hide it, then you purchased those with different apple id. If you completely confident that you purchases with same apple id then you have hidden it. One of the other or you are speaking about a miracle. While miracles are possible they are not very likely. • I had my own laptop with my own iTunes account on it. However the laptop is now broken. My partner has his laptop but his already got his own iTunes account. How can I sync my iPod and iPhone to this laptop but use my iTunes?

Can we both use the same iTunes but get all our music ect into one? Or can we share our separate accounts between devices? We both have iPod touch, iPhone 4 and an iPad each. At the moment I can't seem to get to my iTunes as it come up that it will delete everything in my phone/iPod but u have downloaded things to the devices directly and don't want to lose that?

    Hello Miss,
To set up a new Windows user account, if it is Windows 7, go to Start > Control Panel > User Accounts and Family Safety > Add or Remove User Accounts > Create New Account.
The old laptop is probably on Windows XP, so the menus may look a little different.
Once they each have their own Windows user account, they can each work with their own iTunes library, and all content will be independently managed.  That should avoid snarls and demerits in the coming year.

  • I have 3 iPods on my iTunes account. Two of which are my daughters. I have purchased a new iPod touch for my daughter, and want to establish her own iTunes account WITHOUT having all of her music go away when we do this.

I multiple ipods (3 different users) on the same itunes account. All of the music is either from cd's or purchased from iTunes legally. A new iPod has been purchased, and I want to open a new iTunes account for the daughter so I can actually use iClound myself. How can I open a new account without losing all of the music that is tied to MY account, that is hers. I would like not to lose all of that music. Thanks

Content is permanently tied to the account that it was purchased with.
Simply plug the iDevice into the computer and sync the content you want.

  • My 2 children have an ipod touch each, do i need 2 seperate itunes accounts

my 2 children have an ipod touch each, do i need 2 seperate itunes accounts

No. but you need another mail address if they what to keep their FaceTinme and Messages separate. See:
MacMost Now 653: Setting Up Multiple iOS Devices For Messages and FaceTime
However, without different account there Contacts and Calendar would be shared. You have to create different/another ID to separate them. However, you can still use one ID for the iTunes and App stores so they can share music and apps. Just make sure that in Settings>iTunes and App stores the some account is used. If you tap on the Apple ID you can sign signout and sign into another account.

  • Can I run two ipods from the same itunes library/account?

I have a 20gb photo colour ipod and have just bought a new 30gb video ipod. I need to know whether I can run them off the same library and itunes account or do I have to have separate user accounts?
      Windows XP   iTunes 7.0.1.8

    Yes, you can.
You can either have multiple user accouts on your computer, or create separate playlists for your two iPods in iTunes.

  • If I already have an Ipod registered on my laptop, how do i syncronise another ipod with the same laptop

If i already hav an ipod registered on my account, how do i syncronise another ipod to this account

Just connect the iPod to the computer and syn the iTunes you want to the new iPod.  Just make sure that iTunes gives the iPod a different name, it should.

  • I look after multiple ipads each with their own itunes account. How can I manage them all from one computer.

I am looking after 20 ipads each with their own itunes account.  Am I able to have more than one itunes account on my computer so that I can sync these ipads when necessary.  We don't always buy our songs on itunes. Sometimes we buy the cds and download them onto itunes so i need to attach them to the computer to sync the songs.  I will need to do this all on my one computer.  Can this be done.  If not, what do you do in this instance.

Best way to do it is to create a user for each iTunes account.

  • I have an iPhone and an iPod with the same iCloud/Apple ID but I don't want have the same stuff on them?

Ok so I have an iPhone and an iPod which share the same iCloud/appleID. I did this today when I got my new iPhone I put in my iCloud details which put everything I had on my iPod onto my iPhone(I was unaware this happened). I'm happy with all the apps added straight on and my contacts added but I don't want to have all my photos from my iPod on my iPhone. I want to keep the photos from my iPod on my iPod and when I take pictures on my iPhone they stay just on my iPhone. I'm wondering if this is possible as it's with the iCloud? I have previous synced my iPod on my laptop when adding music ect but I don't know if that effects iCloud I don't really know but I'm worried if I delete all the pictures off of my iPhone then sync that then sync my iPod into the same laptop will it wipe those pictures since there off my iPhone? I don't really get how all this works so help is very much appreciated!!  And I hope what I've wrote makes sense to someone!

Welcome to the Apple Community lizzie.
If you don't want photo stream to sync your photos between devices go settings > iCloud and uncheck photos, do this on each device.
