Is it possible to manage "Backup" on iCloud drive.

A friend has 25 GB of storage but over 21 GB is "Backup".  And this is for one iPhone and one iPad.  I have 5 GB iCloud storage and only 1.2 GB is "Backup" for two iPhones and one iPad.

Can I put Time Machine backups on iCloud drive?

I'm trying to find a way to do this too.. but can't figure out how to do it if it is possible.

  • ICloud drive disk still full AFTER upgrading to 1TB storage space

    Hello,
I just bought the $19.99/month 1TB iCloud storage plan so that I can back up all 800GB of my iMac data to my iCloud Drive. However, when I drag and drop my files over to my iCloud Drive in Finder, it says disk full. Am I doing something wrong? There should definitely be more than enough room. I have also checked to make sure my storage plan was indeed upgraded correctly in iCloud management and there is definitely a full 1TB of available space.
I have even tried backing up my files to my iCloud Drive using Time Machine. My understanding was that with the Yosemite 10.10.2 update, iCloud Drive should now show in Time Machine's preferences as a back up drive option. But after upgrading to 10.10.2, I still do not see it in there as an option.
    Please help!
    Thanks in advance.

So is there no way of not creating the shadow copy on my local machine also?
No, iCloud Drive is meant for the working copies of your documents - to store them on a central location in iCloud and update them on all your devices. The shadow copies are there, to guarantee, that you can access the documents, when you are offline.  See:  iCloud Drive FAQ
Sounds like using Time Machine to backup a single copy to my iCloud Drive would achieve this right? But as I said in my original post, I'm not seeing iCloud Drive as a back up target disk option in preferences.
Time Machine can backup your iCloud Drive, but it cannot backup to iCloud drive. Perhaps you misunderstood, what the latest Yosemite update meant for Time Machine:  (see this link:
About the OS X Yosemite v10.10.2 Update - Apple Support)
Adds the ability to browse iCloud Drive in Time Machine
This means, that you can now restore your iCloud Documents from Time Machine more easily, because you can browse them, but Time Machine cannot store backups on iCloud Drive.

  • Icloud drive - direct access from an ios device

Good morning all :-)  Does anyone know if there is some hidden app that allows direct access to iCloud Drive on either an iPad or iPhone?  I know I can open Numbers, Pages, etc and access my iCloud files that pertain to those specific apps, but is there a way to access iCloud Drive so I can see ALL the folders in my iCloud Drive?  I'm talking similar to the way you open the finder in OS X on the desktop and access the iCloud Drive.
Apple's website in the iCloud section clearly shows an image of an iOS device with iCloud Drive open, showing all the folders in the drive, however I am reading on third-party websites that there is in fact no such app.  Strange that Apple would show this on their own webpage, but not make it available to the users.
    Thanks!

As far as I understood there is no such an app like "file manager" for the icloud drive. So its impossible to access your files from your iOS8 device..!!! Amazing ah!!! Therefore you CAN'T read .pdf files!!!. ibook doesnt work for that job. Another surprise in the post-Jobs Apple!!

  • Pages won't sync between computers in iCloud drive

Since I upgraded to iCloud Drive, I can't get my documents to sync between my laptop and desktop.
Before I upgraded, I could write on the laptop and it would sync with the desktop and vid-versa.
I upgraded to Yosemite thinking this would solve the problem. it did not. I upgraded to pages 5.5 on both. Still no success. Any ideas, or is this something you can't do on Drive. And if you can't, is there a way to go back to the old Cloud? I hate moving files manually -- always afraid I'm writing over the wrong thing.
    Thanks.

    Hi matthewfromconifer;
The following would be helpful, I suppose:
1- Make a backup of iCloud Drive docs (for precaution) .
2- Go to System Preferences > iCloud
3- iCloud Drive > Options. Uncheck all the applications listed.
      4- Turn off iCloud Drive.
5- Delete the CloudKit folder from:
              ~/Library/Caches
       6- Restart the Mac.
       7- Turn on iCloud Drive
This completely resets iCloud Drive and downloads a clean set of data from iCloud.

  • How do I add iCloud drive to Favorites in Finder window?

Due to an accident with a mouse with a dying battery, I managed to remove iCloud drive item from the Favorites in the Finder window. If you do it with one, they're all missing it. So how do I restore it? I can't find any way to do it. Help articles are utterly useless as they say nothing on the matter. I don't even know what iCloud drive is and yet I have apparently permanently removed it from the favorites list.

I feel like a *******, since it seems obvious now. I guess when you're so close to the matter you don't see it.
    Thanks for the advice.

  • My iPad 3 is not backing up to either iCloud Drive or to my Computer after upgrading to iOS8.

I have an iPad3 LTE that is unable to backup to iCloud Drive or to my home computer since I installed iOS8. Around the same time I also swapped out my SIM card since my work picked up my data plan (Verizon data carrier). The backup starts and then gets kicked back saying that there is an error
I have tried doing a soft reset by pressing the power and main button down simultaneously - This did not make a difference. I have also tried the Reset All Settings option which also did not fix the problem.
    Any suggestions would be welcome.
    Thanks!

  • Unable to enter Manage Storage in Icloud backup and storage

I'm unable to enter Manage Storage in Icloud backup and storage. I'm clicking on Manage Storage and nothing happens. I am out of storage and I cant menage it. I have IOS 5.0.1

There is a unbelievably simple "solution" to this problem (not getting in to manage storage, only spinning wheel).
All you have to do is click "backup now" at the bottom and immediately as it is calculating estimated time for backup you click "manage storage" and VOILA! You´re in. Believe me it works, done it on 2 phones this evening. One 4s on iOS7 and one 5 on iOS6.1.3

Hi, i have my whatsapp backup in icloud and now i want to download it on my pc? how is it possible?

You should be able to install it on your PC simply by installing it.  You should only need the serial number from your purchase to activate it.  If you didn't purchase it as an upgrade, then you should be able to install it as a full version anyways.

  • IPhone backup (in icloud) doesn't appear later (for restoring)

    Hello,
I have all these iDevices, with iOS 5 and with backups in iCloud:
    iphone 3GS
    iPad
    iPhone 4S (let's call this "4S1")
I have received a second (new) iPhone 4S (let's call it "4S2"), and want to use it instead of 4S1, so I thought I could iCloud backups to transfer everything from 4S1 to the new 4S2. I made a backup of 4S1 in iCloud, then switched on 4S2, and in the initial setup procedure, chose "restore from iCloud backup". But in the available backups, only appear those of 3GS and ipad, not the backup of 4S1.
I manually made more backups of 4S1, but again, none of them are available for 4S2 to restore from them (only backups of the 3GS and iPad)...
I deleted the backups of the 3GS in iCloud, even disabled iCloud inside the 3GS, then made more backups of 4S1, but... now the only backups available to restore to 4S2 are those of the iPad, not valid for me.
The "funny" thing is that, in the 4S1, under settings-icloud-storage and copies (well, mine is in spanish, don't know how this is written in english ios)-manage storage, THERE IS a backup of the 4S1, so... why doesn't it appear as available when I try to restore that backup to the new 4S2?
    Thanks in advance,

Excuse me, I forgot to include that I read this discussion:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/17838682#17838682
so it appears that one probable cause is, the backups from 4S1 are made with iOS 5.1, and the new 4S2 has 5.0.1. I have read documentation from Apple, and found none stating that the backups were incompatible between different iOS 5 versions.
In the mentioned discussion you can read that the solution is to upgrade the 4S2 to iOS 5.1. The thing is, I don't want to upgrade 4S2 to 5.1.1 by now... Could it be possible to use still the backups of my 4S1?
    Thanks,

First check that your device is correctly connected to the wifi/internet (settings > wifi)
If your back up continually fails, you might try turning off back up on your mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup) and then deleting the backup file from iCloud by swiping the backup file on the mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup > manage…) and then turning back up on again.
If this doesn't help, try turning off some items for back up in a pattern to try to establish if your problem is being caused by specific data on your device.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

  • Is it possible to use backup files previously copied to an external hard drive to backup an iPhone?

My sister froze her iPhone by trying to turn it off during a software update (not sure why) and restored it because she thought it would fix it. Unfortunately she unintentionally deleted all of her data and settings. She doesn't use iCloud, so I'm assuming all her files are backed up to her computer when she syncs her iPhone, but using iTunes I can only find two backup points using Edit>Preferences>Devices, both in the past few minutes. I know that each sync overrides the last backup files instead of creating newer ones, so apparently older backup files from her computer can't be used to recover her data. However, we both periodically use an external hard drive to back up our computers by basically dragging and dropping our files onto it, so there is an earlier version of her User folder on the external hard drive. It would definitely be preferable to use the backup files from a few months ago that are on the external hard drive and lose a few photos than to lose years of data, so would it be possible to direct iTunes to those backup files (AppData etc) instead of the ones saved on her computer hard drive? There's not any kind of browse option I can see that could allow me to get iTunes to search for backup files on the external hard drive and I'm not computer savvy enough to manually find the files and connect them to iTunes. Is it even possible to use backup files from an external hard drive? Do I have to replace the ones that exist on her computer now?

    Garageband can't use VST plugins.
If you're talking about AUs: you could try to put an alias into the HD/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components folder instead of the actual files, and see if GB loads them.

Try turning off the Camera Roll option in Settings>iCloud>Backup & Storage>Manage Storage>Your device. Then turn it back on again.
