Is it possible to manage firefox security settings centrally for a network of windows clients?

We want to add the Firefox browser to our network client build and managing the various settings (locking down?) centrally or setting defaults that suit our environment would be really useful. Internet Explorer can be managed using Group Policies in Windows so is there something similar for firefox?

You're welcome.

    Hi SHzKhan,
According to your error message, we need to verify if you configure the MSDTC correctly, When you have more than one SQL Server involved in a Distributed Transaction, you need to make some changes to the default configuration of MSDTC for these distributed
transactions to succeed. There is a detail about recommending MSDTC settings for using Distributed Transactions in SQL Server, you can review the following article.

  • How can I configure FireFox security setting globally for all users on a PC? Is there something I can do in group policies or throught the registry to insure all users have the same settings?

Our Bank's core processor has rewritten their product to run in a web browser. Their browser of choice is Firefox 3.6. The specifications from our core processor specify specific security and settings parameters that must be adhered to by all users for their product to run properly. Is there a way to globally configure these settings via the registry or group policies to insure everyone who logs in to a given workstation opens Firefox with the same settings? • THKVage Password Manager - Bad Security settings

Hi everyone. Please excuse my English, as it is not my native language.
I'm having trouble with the settings of the ThinkVantage Password Manager (PwdMgr).
    Here is my problem:
I am using PwdMgr as a password vault. If, when I first launch it after a boot, it asks me either to swipe my finger or to enter the single sign-on password, it won't ask again while I don't reboot.
For obvious reasons, I would like to have PwdMgr ask for authentication  every time I launch it.
    How can I do that?
I've been through (I think) every settings available in the ThinkVantage software package, but I couldn't find anything helpful.
    Thank you for your help.
Here is some information about my machine:
    - Lenovo W510
    - Win7 Professional
    - ThinkVantage Password Manager 3 v3.20.0311.00

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi and welcome to the forum,
in case you want to see every time the fingerprint swipe request by opening of the Password manager, then you should do following:
    - open Client Security Solution (Start->Programs->ThinkVantage->Client Security Solution)
    - in the CSS GUI go to Advanced->Manage Security policies
    - now you will see a new window and in this window on the left site on the bottom you should see:
    "Open Password Manager"
    - select this option and now on the righ site make sure, that you select the "Use a custom security for this user action" and then click the button below it "Edit Custom Policy"
    - now you will see another window and make sure, that in the "Protection frequency:" you select "Always"
    - confirm all changes and you should be good to go
Unfortunately I cannot tell you the description in Japan language But this should help you out, as I'm also using Client Security Solution with Single-Sign-on and I use it the same way as you want to.
Please note, that I'm using the latest version of all the software.
Pelase let me know, if the above will help you out.
If not, please let me know the version of the apps and drivers, that you are using and also the system.
    Cheers

  • Firefox security settings will not save any of my passwords even when i click on the check box for saving passwords. please help.

When a pop-up comes up on the screen it will ask to save my password or not, well, I click on save password but it doesnt save any passwords even when I have the check box checked for remembering my passwords for certain sites it will not save any type of passwords at all. What am I doing wrong? I am using linux-mac OS user.

Simply because I don't think about using this option that takes more time to close... I always close ALL my windows with the X.
Firefox doesn't hang at exit also...
Using Firefox / Exit doesn't always save the bookmarks also... let's say there is 80% chances it will but not always... I noticed the first time I open firefox after booting the computer... Bookmarks won't be saved... But if I close firefox and re-open it, then it might save it... 50% guess...
I tried the safe mode, but since its closing firefox and re-open it... new saved bookmarks sometimes work, sometimes don't... it's pretty unstable...
Hopefully there is a solution to this problem in a near update, annoying... else I will simply reverse to firefox 3.6.16

  • Remove Security Settings automatically for User account

    Hi all,
In windows server 2003R2 -> AD users and computers -> (user)administrator account -> porperties -> security tag
I have added group 'power user' and denied all permission for this group to manage this account.
However, after about an hr, once I login again, the group was removed automatically in the security tag.
    Anyone have ideas about this?

  • Is it possible to download Firefox to a cd for installing on a computer with a broken we browser?

I just need to download the firefox install program to a cd so I can put it on a computer with a non-functioning web browser.

That should be no problem. Just take care to obtain the Firefox Installer applicable for the target device, and not the one for the downloading device. If however you are downloading on a Windows XP laptop, and using Firefox on a Windows7 64 bit desktop computer the firefox installer for both will be identical.

  • Is it possible to restore the factory settings just for the internet?

I am a student and I was having trouble logging in at my university. I called IT and they had me change all sorts of things under System Preferences - Network. They had me add a location and set the IP address manually. Now I am having trouble getting online anywhere else. I just want the network settings to be how they were when I got the computer 3 months ago and my ability to access technical support from apple just ended on Nov. 30 so I would really appreciate anyone's help.
    Thanks!

Just tried this and it worked for me. Go into Network preferences and click the lock to allow you to make changes. Hit the minus key to delete all your different accounts. Once they are all gone you can add what you need back I usually use airport so that is the only one I brought back on line.

  • Firefox won't install for all users in Windows 8.1; only installs for administrator

Since moving to Windows 8.1, I have been unable to install Firefox for multiple users on this laptop. Firefox installs only for the Administrator (me), and does not appear on any other user account. When I try installing from one of the other user accounts (after entering my administrator password), it simply won't install.

Check that Firefox isn't set to run as Administrator.
Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.
    * Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
    * "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected
Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).

  • I have a problem with Firefox. The checkbox for "Block pop-up windows" under Tools – Options – Content unchecks itself when I close the browser.

In other words, I can go into the content tab, check the box to stop pop-ups, but if I close the browser, and then reopen it, the box is no longer checked. What is the cause of this?

Thank you for your help. Unfortunately, none of the fixes that you directed me to worked; the “safe mode” fix, prefs.js change to prefs.jsOLD fix, the blow it out and reinstall fix; and prefs-1.js does not exist. I’m willing to try any other fixes you can think of, so send them along if you have any.
One thing that did come to mind though is; the extension “.js” is for java script. And, with Firefox 6.0 installed, the Java 6 Update 26 is disabled, with the message under add-ons – extensions being, “Java Console is incompatible with Firefox 6.0.” Could this be the reason I can’t get the “Block pop-up windows” box to remain checked?
I’m not an IT guy, so any further help will be appreciated.

  • Network Manager doesnt detect tty/ACM0 for Broadband Network

    Hi all,
I have just installed Arch Linux and slowly getting acquainted to it. I have a mobile broadband connection via GPRS. Previously I was using Zenwalk OS and the Network Manager used to detect my device as soon as it was connected (provided the kernel module cdc_acm was enabled and 'dialout' group was added for that user).
I tried the same in Arch linux, but the Network manager though has options for connecting to Mobile Broadband, doesn't detect my device.
Somehow, I am using the Mobile broadband by using wvdial (had to do trial and error to fix it), but I am interested to know, why the Network Manager failed and hence think about fixing the issue.
Can anyone please guide me regarding this issue and help me out to sort the problem ?
    Thanks in advance
    With regards,
    Ajay Kumar G

    Welcome to the Arch forums!
Your post does a good job providing a very basic idea of what is going on, but unfortunately not much more than that.  More information is required in order to properly diagnose this issue.  You should check if there are error messages in the journal, or any other indications as to why things might be failing.  Your computer typically makes an attempt at telling you what is going wrong.
From what you have posted though, it kind of sounds like you are trying to use two network management services at the same time.  If you use wifi-menu, you are essentially using the ncurses front end to netctl.  Netctl is basically just a collection of scripts that wrap the most basic networking tools.  If this is in use, then networkmanager is bound to fail as you then have two services competing (and likely failing) to control that hardware.
Check to see if you have more than one service trying to handle things.  You can run systemctl with no arguments to see everything that systemd wants to start.  Though if you use systemctl --type=service then you can have it tell you only about services (as opposed to all unit types, like mount, automount, device, socket files and more).

  • Is it possible to prevent FF Private Browsing mode for non-administrator level Windows 7/8 users?

As a parent of a teenager, I'd like to prevent him/her from entering Private Browsing mode all-together. Can this be done based on his/her Windows User Account being a standard user?

You could use an extension to prevent Private Browsing mode, but extensions can easily be bypassed and you can never prevent your teenager from deleting such data via other means (e.g. History > Clear Recent History).
You should consider to use other means at the OS level to monitor visited websites.

  • I keep getting this message "Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded" and I dont' know which settings I need to change.

Would you please provide me with an answer.

That is a message from the Windows OS, Firefox is not giving you this message. Your security settings are local to your computer & windows itself, so you need to look in your IE or Internet Explorer's security settings.

  • Find the IE security settings in BSP

    Hello All,
I have a BSP application makes use of ActiveX control for displaying a calendar. This ActiveX control is stored in the form of cab file in the mime repository of the server.
When the user runs the BSP application for the first time the activeX control gets downloaded automatically on to the user system . However for this automatic download to happen the IE security settings should be set to medium-low . Now, is it possible to get the security settings(high/medium/medium-low/low) of the browser in BSP so that i can display appropriate message when it is not possible to install/display the control due to client browser security settings.
Also, is it possible to check for failure of ActiveX installation on the system in BSP due to some other reasons.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Shankar

    Hi,
it is not possible outside the ActiveX-Control to do both things, you requested. That's only possible within the control itself.
If yo have not written the control yourself, you have bad cards :-(.
It is not possible to check all the other settings of the ie outside via scripting (VBA/JScript/javascript).
    Thanks this helps (or not),
    Stefan
