Is it possible to manually cut away sections of a drop shadow?

Hello, I am having a lot of problems trying to get my jpeg to come out correct. I want an 8 x 12 piece of art. In the process of creating the image, i had to use a drop shadow. However, some of the drop shadow that I dont care about ended up going over the 8" x 12". No problem right? I simply copied the object with the shadow, put the copy on top of the object, highlighted both and made a clipping mask. The end result was perfect -- it clipped off the drop shadow that was extending over the nice white border and even off into space.
However, when I tried to export into a jpeg for print, the result had the correct size white border on the top, but the other sides were too big. Sometimes I miss a stray dot or random line that is far off of the artboard, and deleting the stray stuff corrects everything. But this time everything was fine. I realized that although the clipping mask cut off the drop shadow, illustrator still registered the drop shadow as being a part of the image and taking up space. So the jpeg doesnt show it, but the deminsions are all off.
My question is whether there is a way to manually cut off parts of a drop shadow without using the clipping mask like I did.

Depending on your version, you can make the Artboard or the Crop Area or the Crop Marks fit the part of the artwork you wish to show.
Export JPEG for print?
There are other options; if not AI, then PDF (or other options).

For some reason known only to Apple, only files downloaded through iTunes can be in the podcast section of iPod. As far as I know there is still no supported way around this.
Occassionaly someone reports getting around issue by manually editing the file using a hex editor. This involves comparing iTunes downloaded file with non-iTunes downloaded file to find the difference. Once found, the equivalent setting in other files can be changed. I have never done it though.

Imovie cut away feature

When using the cut away featue in iMovie 11, the insert (or cut away video or still) pops on and off screen. Is there a way to cross dissolve the image (or video) on and off of the screen? I ask because I shot a Boy Scout ceremony recently and it would be nice to insert close ups once in awhile wile keeping the good audio track that I have on my wide shot. The insert is currently a hard cut and I would rather have a cross dissolve to smooth out the look of the video. Thanks for your help.

With your Cutaway clip positioned above your "wide shot" in the project , hover the mouse over the bottom left corner of the cutaway clip to show a cog wheel in a small blue box. Click in this box to bring up a menu. Select Clip Adjustments and in Cutaway Fade select manual and set slider to required fade time or click in box to set directly the seconds and frames of the fade.( eg 2.12 is 2 seconds and 12 frames).
You can drag the cutaway left or right to fine tune it's position or drag left hand or right hand sides to shorten the cutaway.

Have discovered how to split visual and audio tracks. However the cut away only seems to work with still images from iPhoto!

trying to cut away from one video clip to a second one, while keeping the original sound track, works with still images imported from iPhoto, but cant get the video to drag/drop. please help thanks

OK that sounds correct. Just to clarify, when the sign appears, as you release the mouse button (or whatever you are using), no menu pops up but the clip immediately positions itself:
at the front of the target clip, OR
at the very beginning of your project

No, there is no double-click or right-click involved at all. Just drag and drop, then select from the pop-up menu. You should be able to repeat this with no issues. I've also tested dropping video onto a still picture - the cutaway works on that as well.
Something is definitely not working correctly - strange! Quit iMovie, then try deleting the preference file as I described in my last post. Quitting and relaunching iMovie might even fix it. Also, try restarting your Mac - that sometimes helps.

I am editing an audio track and am trying to cut a section, but for some reason I can't get it to select. Whenever I click in the region I want to cut, a flex bar comes up but I can't actually select the region. Any tips on what else I can try?

Placing of an Image in InDesign gets altered with parts cut away...

Here is a weird one that I have stumbled upon and have not been able to remedy. I am working with an image in PS, used transform to distort the image and gave it some perspective. Saved the image as a .Tiff with transparency on.
When I place the image in InDesign it is missing part of the image as if it has been cut away. The image looks great in a browser and in PS. I have bellow attached a screen capture to help visually explain my dilemma. Has anyone run into this problem before and knows the remedy?

There must be a path in Photoshop set as a clipping path. (the path name will show with outlined text). You can delete it or change it to a regular path. You can also use InDesign's clipping path menu to remove it from use within InDesign.

I'm getting a thinkpad helix and was wondering if anyone knew if it is possible to manually install the mobile wwan sim card slot manually after purchasing a model that does not include the mobile wwan feature? I found the same network card that thinkpad offers on amazon but don't know if I would be able to open the helix up and install the wwan card myself. Only reason I'm doing this is because I would like to buy the tablet now but lenovo doesn't offer any kind of financing so I'm going to use either ebay or amazon to buy a helix so I can use a credit limit I have with them to buy it. I'll have the money I just don;'t have the money right now. ANyway none of the helix on either ebay or amazon have 3g wwan capability which is the only problem. I want to be able to buy one on ebay or amazon and then install the wwan card myself. Would this be possible?

Usually all new generation ThinkPads are "wwan ready" i.e.have sim card slot and wwan antennas kit. In this case they don't include special mark regarding wwan ready features in short model description on Lenovo site in opposite of previous laptop generation.

If they can't extract the SIM without opening the iPad (which no service center is authorized to do), and you can't manage to get it out yourself, then you'll probably have to pay Apple's out-of-warranty replacement price and get the iPad replaced. Use of a cut-down SIM is not covered under warranty.

Adding Cut-away clips

Can I add B-roll or Cut away clips on top of my original clip in imovie 11 on my ipad 2?
I know it can be done on imovie11 for MAC but not sure for the iOS version.

You cannot currently split audio and video in iMovie iOS.
So you cannot cut away to something else and retain audio from another clip.
iMovie for Mac is at version 1.3 BTW

Moving Manual NAT to section 3 (after auto nat)

We have 3 sections of NAT
1>Manual NAT
2>Auto NAT
3>Manual NAt after Auto.
Lets say on ASA we config Manual and Auto Nat.
Now Order of NAT is
1>Manual
2>Auto
If i move the Manual NAT to section 3 of NAT which is Manual NAT after auto NAT.
Now Order of NAT is
2>Auto
3>Manual NAT after Auto.
Now when i try to do Process Manual NATafter auto section number 3 it does not work as it hits Auto NAt and does not go down.
Need to know the reason behind this?

Also as a little side note,
There is also difference in the ordering of the NAT configurations depending on the Section
Section 1 and Section 3 Manual NAT rules are always gone through in the order you see them in the actual CLI configuration. So you might have 2 completely working rules BUT if they are in the wrong order it might be that other one of them is never used
Section 2 Auto NAT rules are processed in an order that you dont usually decide yourself. The ASA puts them in order according to how they were configured.
So in a nutshell. You can manually set the order of the Manual NAT rules but Auto NAT rules are ordered automatically by the ASA itself.
You can see the current order of the Auto NAT rules with the command
show nat

Drop Shadow possible within a paragraph style?

I have a table and on a certain row I have a style that requires a dropdown. I have made a paragraph style that has everything perfect but I can't find the drop shadow option there. Is it possible to include drop shadow effects as a style?

I've found this frustrating too.
The way I get around it is as follows:
1: Create a Text Frame and type the text to be shadowed.
2: Select the Text Frame and choose Window > Effects.
3: Expand the Object list and select just the text in the list.
4: Click the fx dropdown and apply any effects you want to associate with the text.
5: Feel free to save this as an Object Style to use again.
Now the the part that will have old-school QuarkXpressers squirming...
6: Select the whole text frame, choose Edit > Cut.
7: ... and paste it into another text frame as an Anchored Object.
8: You can then create a Paragraph Style to control the position/placement of the Anchored object.
9: ... and even add some Text Wrap and offset to your Object Style.
I know it is a filthy workaround, but it is the only way I can find to achieve the required result.
Please, Adobe, can we have effect styles that can be applied as part of Paragraph Styles. I mean, there's a precedent : Character styles as part of Paragraph Styles, Table Styles containing Cell Styles that contain Paragraph Styles that could ostensibly contain Nested Styles.....

Pie chart drop shadows not printing properly.. cuts off right hand side of pie chart...???

Every time I go to print a pie chart that has a drop shadow applied to it, it cuts off the right hand side of the chart along with the shadow itself. It looks HORRIBLE!!! I went through and created a bunch of reports using that method, and now ALL of them have this problem. It makes ZERO sense to me, and it appears that nobody else is experiencing this. Does anybody have any ideas?
