Is it possible to migrate local profiles to user profile disks?

Hi guys,
Is there an easy way to migrate local user profiles on an remote desktop server to user profile disks? I am replacing a Server 2008 R2 and want to start using UPD's instead on a Server 2012 R2.
Best regards,
Hasan

Hi Hasan,
Thanks for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
As per my research, you can able to achieve your data by choosing the option “Store all user settings and data in the user profile disk” would obviously capture everything normally stored under C:\users\<username>
and add that to the UPD. But please notice however that you can only select the roaming part of your user profile data.
On UPD profile is stored in a .VHDX file specific to your account which is placed on a central share. Upon logon a mount path is created under
C:\Users\<username> that points to that .VHDX file on the share. This makes the solution fully transparent to the Operating System and applications. If you’ve used UPD before you will have noticed that the filenames of the .VHDX files hold the
users SID, not the account name.
For more information, please refer below articles. (You can refer below article for Server 2012 R2)
1.  Using User Profile Disks (UPD) in combination with predefining the Modern UI Start Screen on RDS 2012 (appsfolder.itemdata-ms)

Hope it helps!

  • It is Possible to Migrate Local User Profile to Roaming Profile Using USMT?

    Dear All,
1st, I'm following guide at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/142682 to copy user profiles to another user, but the problem is the 'Copy to' button is not active (grey). I try
using 3rd party tools, still no change.
2nd, I try to transfer local profile on the same machine and different user using Windows Easy Transfer, it's work and all of data has been restore to a new user. But not all App Settings is restored, when I open Outlook 2010 and Windows
Live Mail, there's need to enter password again. That is not problem for me.
3rd, After migrate/transfer (2nd step) I want to migrate from local profile to roaming profile, but user profile setting on local profile is not copied to roaming profile, such as Email setting need to create new account but all data is
not problem, because I have already configure on ADUC and GPMC.
    My question is:
    1. How to copy or move all Application settings on AppData Local folder to roaming profile?
    2. How about USMT, it is possible to migrate user profile settings from local to roaming? if is the best tools, how to do this?
    Please, advice...
    Thanks,
    Hendra

First, I dont understand why you're using the copy profile method. I'll make the assumption that you have a domain user account that you you need it's files and settings moving to another machine.
In that scenario then there's a simple guide here:
    Migrate User Accounts
For Roaming Profiles and Redirected folders; you can follow the
Infrastructure Planning and Design (IPD) Guide for Windows User State Virtualization (USV).
It sounds like a mouthfull but it actually makes the whole process easy. There's also a video
    here.

  • Migration from Roaming Profiles to User Profile Disks - RDS 2012 (R2)

Hi, I'm currently in the process of tweaking our RDS 2012 environment and have a question I hope someone can help me with....
The users who log onto the Collection are currently using roaming profiles stored on a 2008 R2 file server, but I'd like to move them onto User Profile Disks (looks to be a lot of pro's to it). Is there a way to migrate users profiles from roaming profiles
to User Profile Disks? We already have a lot of users on the farm with roaming profiles and I'm guessing if UPD is enabled, it will only take effect with new users? I need to do this without too much hassle if possible
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks

    Hi Paul,
Thank you for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
Sorry to disappoint you, but you cannot able to move\migrate the roaming user profile to new User profile disk on server 2012\R2. You need to move them manually. Please refer below thread.

  • Office 2013 hangs when saving files to local profile locations on Windows 2012 server

We installed Office 2013 a few weeks ago instead of Office 2003 on a Windows 2012 standard terminal server. We installed the last updates and Office is up-to-date now, but we experience problems with saving word, excel and powerpoint documents when we start
a new/clean document. It's not possible to save our documents to the local profile (desktop, documents etc.), but it's no problem to save our stuff to a network share on a different server.
Word is not responding after pressing save or save as and after a few seconds we see the 'microsoft is looking for a solution and will restart microsoft word'.
We did a complete reinstall of Office 2013 and removed the old installation with the removal tool from the microsoft website, without luck. We have the same saving issues with Office 2010, so it's not an Office 2013 issue.
We were looking in the access/rights on the terminal server, because we thought that it was an access/rights issue. But unfortunately we have the same problem with an domain admin user.
I tried to disable DEP and my AVG 2012 antivirus, but this steps are also not the issue.
I'm looking for a solution and i'm working on this case for a few days now. It gives me a headache when i'm thinking about a clean installation of this server. So please contact me when you have a solution or a tip to solve this problems!
    Thanks!

    Hi,
In regarding of the issue, it may be caused a lot of reasons. Please check to see whether the following link is helpful:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541/en-gb?p=1

Then Office hang when saving the file also may be caused by a printer installation.
Check to see the following link:

  • Help! How to migrate local account settings to domain account in Windows 8.1 Pro

All kinds of answers to this question come up for Windows 7 (even though I specify Windows 8.1 Pro)
Anyway, have a laptop originally with Win 8.1 and a local account created.   Upgraded to Win 8.1 Pro and logged in as domain user.  How can I copy all the settings I had as a local account to my domain account? Surely SOMEONE has found a way
    to do this?

    Hi,
You can use USMT to achive your goals. However, I doubt whether you would encounter some problem, as domain controller would set some restricted settings and some policy of your local account won't be applied.
To know more about USMT, please refer to the link below:

  • Personalization - Locale Profiles - Two Filters / OR not And!

    Hi all,
I use the Dynamic Recipient functionality in 3.1 with Personalization. I set two different Filters in Locale Profiles. So I map two dynamic recipient fields to a report field. When I publish this publication (only 1 Webi-File inside) it works nearly perfect.
The only problem I have is, that it makes a OR filter with this fields and not a AND. Is there any possibility to change this?`
    Thanks for your Feedback,

    >should I re-callibrate from a complete beginninng for the two different times of the day"?
    I don't.
make sure your lighting is not overly bright in the daytime and not too dark at night. You should calibrate every 2 weeks at a minimum.

  • Best way to migrate local users to the network - move home folders?

    Hi everyone,
I am about to set up my Mac mini server (Snow Leopard Server). I have one iMac with three user account on it (local), another iMac that we just bought and my MacBook Pro with my admin account on it (Snow Leopard). So all have Snow Leopard.
What would be the best way to move the three local accounts AND their home folders to the server?
What would be the best way to make my portable user account into a mobile user account on the server?
I am planning to create all users on the server (with the same username and passwords etc.) then move the local home folders from the iMac to the server through some direct wired connection. My concern is with this move - will there be permissions mismatch issue? I am sure there will be as the UID would be different for the same accounts (pre-existing and newly created, eventhough their username and passwords are the same).
    Any best practices? strategies?
Does Apple have any documentation on this specific topic? - that is moving local user accounts and their corresponding home folders onto the server?
    Thanks much!
    Kenneth

    Hi again,
I haven't gotten round to it - but may have an alternative route in the mean time: the brand new 27" iMac just arrived, and rather than doing a full 'migration assistant' setup, I am going to try the following:
    1. on the new iMac: only create a local Admin account, user name totally unrelated with any other account name;
    2. on the server: settle all the network user account settings, portable home directories, managed preferences etc. for each user;
    3. on another computer: log on under the corresponding local user account, and copy one's home folder entirely to an external drive - do not use this machine again under this user account;
    4. on the new iMac: log in as a network user, make sure the home folder and library syncing works as desired, set some preferences (and check that this gets synced to the server drive); copy the parts of the home folder & library for this user from the external drive - wait until it all gets synced back and forth - and check any permissions, preferences whatever issue (the local account on the other computer is available for cross-checking, just don't change any documents or settings on that one)
    5. if all works well on the new iMac: delete this local user account on the other computer.
    6. repeat steps 3-5 for each other computer where this user has a local account (one 'old' iMac, one 13" MB) - will also allow to check and filter any duplicate documents which have accumulated over the different machines.
    7. create the network accounts for this user on the other computers, and check the syncing etc.
    8. repeat for each user (4 in total for us).
I think this might just work, since the new iMac at present has no accounts - so no possible issues with similar account names & passwords etc - and you keep the 'old' local account on the other machine as a safeguard anyway.
Any particular thoughts or comments on this proposed process??
How about permissions: does the copying to an external disk, and then back onto another computers disk solve that??

  • Force Active Directory Users to Log Into a Shared Local Profile.

I've searched long and hard for an answer to this but I've found very little info on it so I'm starting to wonder if it's at all possible.
On some of our "Presenter PC's" at work it has been deemed that the creation of a new account from the Default profile takes too long when logging into Active Directory and slows presenting down too much. Our Default profile is probably around 120Mb due to
the contents of the image after deployment and how every application is tailored for use hence the AppData folder takes the bulk of the size up and it's not an option to remove it.
These PC's are (for now at least but hopefully not for much longer) locked down by Deep Freeze which resets all changes to all files when the PC is rebooted so a shared profile is not a problem at this point in time.
What I want to know is whether there is ANY way to make it so that a user authenticating to Active Directory can ALWAYS be forced into a pre-configured, local profile running on Win 7 32/64 Pro?
I've been looking at credential providers and replacing USERINIT.exe. I'm just not 100% sure which part of the process actually tells the PC which profile to use. I know that the registry is checked for the user GUID and if not present creates a new entry and
copies the Default profile but I don't know quite where this is called and how to modify it.
My programming knowledge limited to a bit of CMD and AutoIt but I do know a few coders so if we really have to get our hands dirty on this it isn't the end of the world.
I should also add I've recently been toying with taking the AppData folder outside of the Default profile and creating a SymLink to it but upon copying the Default profile to a new profile (much quicker and more acceptable) the SymLink is lost and replaced
with a relatively empty set of folders which can't be deleted and replaced with a SymLink because the LSASS.exe process is using it and obviously you can't stop that process...
Making the PC log into a local profile on startup is also not an option because a user MUST log into AD to not be in breach of our AUP and all network drives must be availalbe (mapped by GPo and login script).
Any help is more than welcome at this point in time as I've pretty much exhausted all avenues that I know of and have turned to you helpful folk.  Cheers

  • AppV 5 slow to refresh with roaming profile (no redirects) but fast with local profile

    Hi,
I have an issue I can't get thought out. I have an AppV5 SP3 full infra, with SMB share and local caching of packages enabled. Everything works from a functional level. However I have an issue where users with a roaming profile get a very slow AppV refresh
    during login.
I created a few testaccounts, a few with local profile and a few with roaming profiles. For these testusers there are NO folder redirects. The only difference between them is local profile or roaming profile.
When I login with a local-profile user initially, the AppV client rather slowly refreshes the applications and shortcuts. It generates quite some CPU load on the RDS host, but as soon as the shortcuts are placed everything is fine. When I log that user off,
and log in again, the shortcuts are there immediately and I can immediately start the applications (Office 2010 for example). Blazing fast. Also when logging in, the refresh-UI is there for about half a second, it really flashes and it's done.
Then with a testuser with roaming profile, the initial refresh is about the same. But when I logoff that user and login again, it's all very slow. The shortcuts are there but blank initially, it takes about 5-10 seconds to get the correct icon. It takes
much longer before the refresh actually starts (sometimes up to 30 seconds after login), and it takes 5-10 seconds to do the refresh, with 100% cpu load on the thread AppVclient.exe is running on. Also right after loging in when the shortcuts are blank they
don't work until they get the proper icon. WHen everything is refreshed it works all fine though. It's just painfully slow at start.
I don't understand this. I can reproduce this every single time. Without folder redirects I don't see the difference between roaming and local profile from AppV perspective, as the roaming profile is of course copied to the server and in that sense the server
just works with a local copy anyway.
Anyone encountered this, and how to troubleshoot, or better fix this?

So is the fact that there is a 5-10 second delay during refresh actually an issue? What I mean by that is - are any users comparing the local profiles with roaming profiles experience, or complaining that the delay is there?
Roaming profiles and Folder redirection are of course very simple to configure; however for the best user experience I recommend managing profiles with a real profile management solution.
If you have MDOP, then you'll also have access to UE-V. You've mentioned your environment is RDS, which sadly doesn't get UE-V, even though you have App-V.

  • How do I "archive" masses of old emails IN ORDER TO SHRINK MY "PROFILE" SIZE and yet be able to access them possibly in a different profile?

In order to have quicker "profile" backups... I have emails dating back to 1996, about 15GB, and do not want to delete any of the old email, and, at the same time do not need to look at most of the old email, although I may sometimes do a search for something; now, backing up the 15GB profile is time consuming and if I "archived" (saved the old stuff, possibly under a separate profile), then that profile might be 14GB, which, when backed up would not need to be re-backed up, and my daily use profile might be 1GB which would be much easier to back up on a regular basis. I managed to create another profile and I wonder if I can just copy those "folders" in my profile that I want to "archive" into the new profile? And, it is not clear to me how to have both profiles displayed in the same instance of Thunderbird, but, if that is not possible, I'm OK with starting TB and specifying which profile I want for the current session. Thanks.

What I would do is export all of the folders you want to archive to an external medium and then delete them from the profile. If you need to look at an old email later, the export can be in HTML format for easy viewing.
There is an add-on to TB which allows export (and import) of emails in various formats to a separate storage medium (external disk, thumb drive, etc.).
The instructions on how to download and install it can be found at http://barryduggan.info/exportMail.php

  • Server 2012 R2 RDS, User Profile Disks are created but local profiles are created as well. The UPDs aren't mounting correctly.

2012 R2 RDS Deployment with RDCB HA and UPDs enabled. Everything was working fine with no issues until users started getting temporary profiles. Around the same time UPDs were being created but at the same time a user profile was created in C:\Users.
I actually rebuilt the entire RDS configuration except the SQL Server. It took about 5 hours and was not that big a deal but.... we still have the same issue!
Does anybody have the solution for this?

    Hi,
In most cases, the issue is caused by locked UPD. And the workaround is to log off the user. Please check if it is the case.
    For example:
RDS user profile disks - getting error temporary profile are being used as UPD are not accessible
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/0d4b66fc-b53f-435e-b036-142b6ed15d0b/rds-user-profile-disks-getting-error-temporary-profile-are-being-used-as-upd-are-not-accesible?forum=winserverTS
Also, please check if you will get the temporary profile when logging on with a local account of the session host server.
If issue persists, please check if there is any related error in Event Viewer and provide us for further research.
    Hope this helps.

  • Is it possible to migrate the app from latest version to older version

    Hi all,
I have a adf application in jdeveloper 11.1.1.4.0.Due to some issues i have to do it in jdeveloper 11g release 2 (11.1.1.2.0).Is it possible to migrate the application from latest version to older version of jdev.
    Thanks.

It's not officially supported, but you can try a couple of things - first open the application in the old version and see if it works.
If it doesn't you can try creating a new application in the old version and then use the create project from existing source option to map to your existing code.
This all of course assumes that you didn't use features in the new version that are not available in the old version.

  • Is it possible to migrate data from a 4.6C system to an ECC 6.0 system?

    Hello all,
We have an ECC6.0/Oracle 11g system which runs Finance, Purchasing and Payroll/HR for our own organisation.
We also have another 4.6C/Oracle9 system where we run only Payroll for another organisation.
This is a separate landscape (Dev / Test / Prod / DR) which runs on its own hardware.
Clearly, this 4.6C system has to be upgraded in the next 12 months or so before it is out of maintenance.
However, we are exploring whether it would be possible to migrate the data from the 4.6C system to our existing ECC6.0 system instead of upgrading the 4.6C system.
In this way, we can decommission the 4.6C hardware and simplify our landscape.
Has anyone undertaken a similar exercise who would be willing to share their experiences?
Or does anyone have any opinions as to whether this would even be possible?
Our initial thinking is that we would probably have to write our own conversion programs and/or possibly use LSMW but it's early days so any feedback is welcome.
    Regards...John

    Hi,
However, we are exploring whether it would be possible to migrate the data from the 4.6C system to our existing ECC6.0 system instead of upgrading the 4.6C system.
You can make of ALE/IDOCs technology to transfer the required data from 4.6C system to ECC 6.0 system. Here you will need to perform necessary mapping of the fields and perform required technical configuration. Later write ABAP codes to fetch and transfer data .
    Hope this answers your query.

    Hi,
In SAP B1 Version  8.81 , i have taken Type -Chart of Accounts - as Global

Local Currency - INR in SAP B1 8.81

    Hi,
You can set any currency till the time there is no transactions in the database.
Please do remember that the on selection of the Localization UK, the legal aspects and the tax law pertaining to the UK will be applicable and also you have to check for the exchange rate calculation based on settings (direct/indirect).
Also, taking INR as LC will lead to INR being the main currency and hence the reports generation and reconciliation of all the Multi-Currency will be performed in the Lead Currency.
    All the Best.
