Is it possible to navto::// (other documents in a folio) from within an MSO?

For example, other apps I've designed and built I normally use a sliding draw effect that nav's to other docs in it's folio, the advantage I find is it's nice and tidy as all you see is a tab on the side of the screen rather than a nav system thats visable throught the app, when the user pulls out the tab he/she taps an inbvisible button to head to that section...
I'm toying with the idea of this time having a button which pops up a nav menu within the screen (which I'd imagine would just be a two state MSO - the second state having an 'x' to revert to the original object) If the user then taps a button within the second object(state - which is a nav menu) they would then open another page/section with exactly the same MSO in (which would be throught the app)
The advantage of this ( if possible) is sometimes clients/users are a bit thick and do not know whether to tap or pull out a tab....when using content viewer tapping a sliding draw tab isn't great...

I am a little confused by your question, but I think the answer is yes.
You can navto other articles from within an MSO. The only thing you cant do is navto an article and trigger a MSO within the article with one button.

Saving/Opening documents to SharePoint 2013 from within Office 2010 applications

I was hoping that Office 2010 would work nicely together in terms of saving to and opening documents from SharePoint 2013. Alas, I was disappointed and somewhat surprised to see that opening/saving documents in SharePoint from within Office still
involves copying, pasting and hacking the URL of the document library in the Save or Open dialogue box. I was fully expecting that Office 2010 would have display some sort of SharePoint navigation so you could view your sites and document libraries in a similar
way to folders. A mature document management system this ain't!
Anyone have any advice on how to improve the Open/Save to/from SharePoint experience in Office 2010? I'm open to the idea of Office add-ins whether third party or official Microsoft.

An example scenario: I create a new document or receive a document, I'm in the document, and I want to publish the document to a document library in SharePoint. At the moment I would have to save the document, load up SharePoint, navigate to the document
library and then go through the upload process.
I should really be able to, from within Word, select File - Save to SharePoint (say) and then be able to navigate to the document library I want to publish to. Really basic DMS stuff that I'm surprised isn't there!
Similar thing to opening a document. I should be able to Open from SharePoint, navigate to the document library via some sort of navigation box, and open it.
Thoughts appreciated.

Running other binaries or batch files from within java

I recently inherited several closed-source windows executables. I need to execute them when a user clicks on a JButton. (after which I can parse the text files they generate)
I realize this will make my application windows-only...
Does anyone know how I can execute a file (or dos shell commands) from inside java?

My understanding was the command.com (which isn't an executable, just like dir isn't an executable (not a windows user, doesn't know these things))

Creating rules - possible from within an email? what do diff options mean?

In previous email programs I've used (Eudora, Outlook), it is possible to create a rule while you're in a specific email, to direct it to a mailbox you've already set up. Is this possible in Mail, or are rules only created from within the Preferences dialog (a lousy choice)?
Also, can someone direct me to a list of definitions for each of the various options in the Rules dialog? My rules aren't working right, and I'm sure it's because I'm misunderstanding the subtle differences between the From/To/Any Recipient/Account/etc options.

To create a rule you have to go through Preferences/Rules. But as you set up a rule any appropriate values from the currently seelected email will be prefilled. So if you receive an email from me, and as you look at it you decide you don't want to see any more from me, you pull up the Rules dialog, click on Add Rule, and you will see that the From option has my email address filled in for you. If you change the filter option from From to Subject, the subject of my email will be filled in.
I don't know of any document that outlines the different options - have you looked at help? (This is not a smart answer, my mail help isn't working and I'm afraid I haven't bothered to fix it.) For the specific cases you mention:
From: the email address that shows in the From column in the mail list
To: is not necessarily you. It might for example be the name of a mail list, or it might be that the sender has included you as a CC or BCC, and so your name does not appear in the To:
Any Recipient: recipients (people this mail is delivered to) may be listed in the To: section, the CC: section, or the BCC: section. If you get a lot of mail that you want to filter, and a common feature is that Tom Jones always appears in one of these, but not the same one, then use Any rather than the specific recipient choices
Account: I have 5 or 6 different email accounts. I might want to treat differently mail from Tom Jones to me at one of those accounts from mail to me at another of those accounts.
If you want to post some problematic rules, with what is happening and what you had expected would happen, maybe someone can help.
Incoming mail is tested agains the rules in sequence, and triggering a rule does not necessarily stop the mail being tested against subsequent rules. It is often a good idea to consider whether the last action on a rule should be "stop evaluating rules".

Is it possible to lock a document to prevent others from editing it?

I see that in the inspector you can password protect a document to stop them from opening it, but I see no similar feature that allows people to view the document but not edit it. Is this possible with Pages? Or must I convert to a pdf?

That's what pdfs are for.

SAP doesn't allow you to reverse a document in FI if it was created subsequently from another module (in your case HR).
Why don't you use F-44 transaction code to manually clear the open vendor line item and offset it against the same clearing account?

Is it possible to search multiple documents for text?

I have several hundred fake newspaper cuttings that I have generated in Photoshop CS4, in which there are multiple layers of text. I want to search for certain words within all those cuttings, similar to the way I can search for words in InDesign or PDF across multiple documents.
Is that possible, either from within PS or by using third-party software?

I’ve given it some thought and I think Scripting would be the best way after all.
I’ve asked about accessing the texts in a psd without actually opening it in Photoshop in the Scripting Forum, but I’ve been told it might be speedier to actually open the files in psd, so some BrigeTalk might be necessary.
Anyway I wonder if one should upon running the Script create text-files with all the psd-files’ collected texts so that subsequent searches wouldn’t necessitate repeated opening – of course that means risking searching obsolete lists (unless one institutes checks for relative change-dates or some such).
A way that aims much shorter would be to transfer all the textItem.contents to the File Info’s Description with a comparatively simple Script and search the Contents in the Finder.

Cut parts of a PDF file to paste in other document

I am using Adobe Reader 8.1.1. In an earlier version it was possible to cut parts of a PDF file and paste it into an other document.
This feature does not seem to work in V8.1.1.
Any solution to this problem.

Is it possible to print a document exactly as it appears on the screen?

Like the topic question asks, is it possible to print a document exactly as it appears on the screen? I'm fairly new to indesign and I designed my company's manual recently, taking us away from doing so in Word. I fear I may have made a very amateurish mistake and am dreading having to go back and reposition everything. Some of the problem can be alleviated if I can find a way to print the document exactly as it appears on my monitor or when I export the file to PDF.
What's happening is the page numbering and other items I set up outside of the bleed area (I think that's what it's called...the red box that appears in each document) are refusing to print properly. I want the entire right hand corner of the page to be taken up. Currently, only part of the image is printing. If I choose "scale to fit", then the entire image prints, but it doesn't take up the entire right hand corner. Instead, the graphich repositions itself about an inch away from the edge and bottom of the document.
Failing that, is there a blanket way to scale all items in indesign?

In regards to the other question I asked though, is it possible to scale all the items on a page by a set amount? Say for instance I have the font too large on all of the pages in the document and the images are also a little oversized, is ther some way I can scale all of the images down a certain percentage without having to go into each item individually?
Well, kinda. If you select everything on your page at once (or if they're already grouped) then you can hold down Control, Shift, and Alt while grabbing a corner to resize and it'll maintain all of the ratios, including scaling the font size. You'd only be able to scale one page or spread at a time, but you could do it that way. Alternately, you can place your InDesign document into another InDesign document, where the source InDesign doc will be displayed as an image in the target doc. So, you could scale each page just like an image.
However, I'm reluctant to advise that you do that - mostly because I don't understand what you're doing. In my understanding, everything outside of the crop marks is literally going to wiind up on the cutting room floor, so the fact that you have content like page numbers in your bleed makes no sense to me. Is it intended for the press operator who's going to be doing the cutting? We can answer your questions, but honestly I think you should describe what you're trying to achieve in the end with a bit more detail, otherwise the forums regulars will answer your questions at face value and maybe help you, or maybe just help you dig a deeper hole for yourself without realizing it.

Hyperlinks to other documents in Pages ?

Even in such a miserable tool as Ms word, it is possible (though unreliable) to set a hyperllink from a document so as to open a different document which is not a webpage, e.g. a pdf. As far as I can see this was not possible in the previous Pages. Does anyone know if this is possible with the new Pages ?

Although Pages ’09 v4.3 allowed linking to other Pages documents, this feature is not implemented in Pages v5.2.2. This is a new application rewrite of Pages that Apple has omitted nearly 110 features/functionality found in Pages ’09. If you need to link to other documents, then Pages v5.2.2 is not the application of choice.

In Finder preferences > General, I changed New Finder windows show: from All My Files to my short login name. This reduces the confusion in presented files.
You can control where you retrieve or save iWork documents via the open and Save.../Save As... dialogs -- or with drag & drop -- be that local or iCloud. I have Pages documents in iCloud that do not reside on my local disk. I can always retrieve them from iCloud to local storage as needed. You certainly can remove a local copy of a document that you already have saved in iCloud.
The act of saving a document to iCloud does not create a duplicate (backup) copy on your local storage.
