Is it possible to obtain OCA/OCP without any experience i Oracle?

Hi all,
I have little or none experience using Oracle or any other database systems, but my boss at work has generously offered me a chance to take a OAC/OCP certification (Oracle Database). I work as a sysadmin you might say, on a system that relies on Oracle for datastorage. My duties at work do not include any "tampering" with the database, but I sometimes use SQL (Select queries) or Business Objects to obtain data from the database that i cannot reach in other ways.
I have been looking at the courses Oracle Database 10g: Administration Workshop I Release 2 (and Workshop II), and wonder if this is really enough to be qualified for a job as a DBA or equivalent job.
I do not have the need for any of this knowlege of Oracle databases in the current position i have in the company I work for, but perhaps I could, when the time is right, get another job in this company (or somewhere else).
Is it recommended to have worked with databases before taking any of these certifications, and will I be able to fulfill my duties as a DBA with just the two courses I have mentioned above? Are there any other jobs I could do if i take the courses above?
Thanks in advance for any answers

Good Morning,
In regards to your question regarding the two courses the answer is absolutely not! In this profession staying up on technology is paramount so that means read, read read! You are presently one step ahead of most others because you got access to a real database where others do not. Take advantage of that but just be careful of the statements you issue. Get really familiar with the data dictionary tables then concentrate on the front end tools. If you know the mechanics you won't be so afraid to push a button when called apon. As for me I never took a course, I just studied the appropriate manuals to pass the test for ocp currently I am 8, 9 and 10g certified. What you can do to accomplish this is get a syllabus of the required areas and check it out on the database. Keep taking the test until you pass, then move onto the next one. Once this momentum builds you will not want to stop. Obviously there will be some things you can't do here. In that case use your home computer, crash it etc. Get to know the procedures cold. Now oracle requires you to take courses to get the cert issued. Back in my days that wasn't required. Consider it an investment in your future. Someday someone out there will want to talk with you because you are currently associated with a business that has an oracle db and that is all that matters. At the interview if you answer their questions professionally and competently, you in all likely hood get the position, regardless of the cert you have or not.
Take the man up on it!

al

    Hi,
Is it possible to clone an instance without any data?
Say I want to clone an instance to make a new instance on some other server so that the new clone will be same like a fresh installation without any customization and data in it.
    Thanks

One option you have is to do another fresh install, apply all of the patches that have been applied on the current instance, then use iSetup to migrate your setups from source to target.

  • Portal development with open source and without any of the Oracle products

Hi would like to know whether is there is any portal framework (pure java) available to develop portal application where I can integrate JSF, RICHFACES, GWT and .NET applications. I dont want to use any of the oracle products. Please help

You come to an Oracle specific forum and ask whether or not you someone can recommend you a portal product without needing oracle technology...
Sorry but that does not exist because java is also oracle so if you want a portal without wanting to use oracle than you will have to go for .net or php or something like that because java is oracle...
Don't you think it's a bit odd asking such a question on the official Oracle forums? It's like going into a BMW garage and asking if you can have a free car that has nothing of the BMW technology inside...
    oh wait... 1 April, damn...

I won't even insert any SIM in it, just need to know if it's possible, or the device must have signal? (I will activate the iPhone with official ATT sim, but then remove it)

Pretend it is a touch. No signal so you can't test phone related code, otherwise yes you can use it for testing.

  • Is it possible to create reports in 1 month without any experience?

I'm on a project where we need to make some custom reports in the span of about a month. I'm trying to figure out what is feasible for a person, with no reporting background but plenty of SQL experience,to handle in that time frame.
The format of all of the reports would be basically the same. We want a histogram next to a window where we can enter in some information, and the histogram would change dynamically. In another frame, we would have access to detailed data (ability to view the actual records).
    Thanks,
    Samir Patodia

    Hi Samir,
You can look at the Building Reports manual for basic information on how to build reports:
    http://otn.oracle.com/documentation/reports.html
For your particular case, output to portal may be appropriate. You may want to look at the Reports : Portal integration viewlets:
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/getstart/demonstrations/index.html
At the same time, since you want end-user reporting and dynamic charts, you may want to look at the functionality offered by another Oracle product - Discoverer

  • Can one get OCP without previously passing OCA- Solaris 10

Looking at the requirements for getting the Solaris 10 Administrator certification, I wonder if I can get certified by passing the two required exams without sitting the OCA exam first. Beside passing CX-310-202 and CX-310-202 there's nothing else listed as a requirement. Solaris 10 certified admin is OCP level.
Do I have to get OCA first before getting OCP or regarding Solaris 10 I can go straight for the OCP level?
Sorry for the noob style, but I haven't been able to find any straightforward answer.

Based on the Solaris 10 Administrator certification path, which can be found at http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=328 , I would say that you need only the CX-310-200 and CX-310-202 exams to obtain the OCP cert. I don't see an OCA cert listed on that page and typically those cert pages list the full path from OCA to OCP and even OCM if one exists for that cert.
With most Oracle certs they force you to obtain the OCA level before going on to OCP and beyond. This exam, however, is one that is ported over from Sun. The FAQ page regarding Sun certifications (http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=82#6Q12C) states the following:
"Will the Sun certification tracks or requirements change?
Sun certification tracks will be modified to follow Oracle’s certification model: Associate, Professional, Master, and Expert. All changes to the Sun certification credential names, tracks, and requirements will be available on the Oracle Certification Program Web page. "
The closest thing I can see to an OCA version of an exam for this cert would be the Oracle Certified Associate, Oracle Solaris 10 Operating System (http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=327). However, on neither of the cert path pages for these exams do I see any connection between the two. Therefore, I don't think it would be a requirement, but I cannot state that with 100% certainty. Hopefully a forum mod can provide a more concrete answer.

  • Oracle 10g OCA/OCP - There is a one-way path?

    Hello.
I' m planning to undergo the 1z0-042/1z0-043 exams.
1)Following the suggested path I have to undergo FIRST one of the [1z0-007, 1z0-47,1z0-51] exams and THEN the 1z0-042 to obtain OCA.
Is it possible in the other way? (FIRST 1z0-042 and THEN one of the [1z0-007, 1z0-47,1z0-51]
2)In the same way,is it possible after OCA, FIRST get through the 1z0-043 exam and THEN follow and complete [One of the instructor-led online o in-class courses] and Complete the course submission form to obtain OCP?
3)Is possible to undergo FIRST 1z0-042 THEN 1z0-043 and AFTER the 1z0-047 + follow and complete [One of the instructor-led online o in-class courses] and Complete the course submission form to obtain OCP?
The components are the same. What differs is the order.

Paolo FilippiGenerally you can do any exams/courses you like in whatever order you like (There are exceptions ... i think certain Jaa certifications have certain order pre-requisites ... usually arround written assignments).
HOWEVER, you will not recieve any certifications until you meet all the pre-requisites for that certiication:
Thus if you first pass 1z0-043 .... you will receive no certifications as you have not fulfilled all prerequsites for any certification.
If you thn passed 1z0-042 .... you will still receive no certifications as you have still not fulfilled all pre-requsites for any certification.
If you then attended an accreditted course satisifiying the 10 DBA OCP and then submitted and had it validated you will still receive no certifications as you have still not fulfilled all pre-requsites for any certification.
If you then passed 1z0-047 would at that receive the following certifications close to simulataneously as you have fulfiled pre-requisites
:: SQL OCE, 10g DBA OCA, 10g DBA OCP. (The 10g DBA OCA is sort of irrelevant at this point).
    Conversely Steve Zodiac:
    - Passed 1z0-047 and was awarded SQL OCE as he had fulfilled all pre-requisites
    - Passed 1z0-042 and was awarded 10g DBA OCA as he had fulfilled all pre-requisites
-- Attended a course relevant to 10g DBA OCP and got it validated.
    - Passed 1z0-043 and was awarded 10g DBA OCA as he had fulfilled all pre-requisites
:: The difference will Seve Zodiac is he got interim certification awards quicker.
Incidently i recommend people study for 1z0-051 rather than taking 1z0-047 directly as the latter is mor difficult ( And specially if anyne has attempted to put the SQL exam last ;) )
The exam order 1z0-051 - 1z0-042 and 1z0-043 should certainly be preferable for most people, but there are exceptions.

I've now read on your subject what you meant by fundamentals +(if all else fails read the original posters question)+.. ie 9i DBA OCA and 9i DBA OCP .... no for you forget those and and follow the link to the Pl/SQL developer track ....

Exam order is not important, but you dont get certificates unless pre-requisites all met. The is an interesting cheap beta exam arround at present if you are up for it ... 1z0-144

Can you imagine being a Developer without any hands-on experience? I certainly wouldn't hire you if that was the case.hmm...question was regarding "Hands-on-course" not "hands-on experience".
    user592551,
Although some OCP tracks may require instructor led traing (ILT) class(es) the OCP Developer does not require any ILT although there are "suggested" ILT classes. Even if you take them, entire syllabus may not be covered in those classes.

Restoring a phone from a backup will put the device back to the state it was when the backup took place, i.e. all info that you had on that phone before using the backup will be gone.
You could try to restore the phone, which will back up the actual data on the phone, including the passcode, and use this backup to set up a new phone with. The passcode will still be the same, because it is  part of the backup.
More info here, iPhone and iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
Not being able to fill in the passcode is not much different from forgetting it.
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.

  • Is it possible to backup my iPhone without getting into the phone?

I have a white iPhone 5c 16GB. It's my second time owning one, and the current one I have is from Asurion insurance company. I have heard those have been refurbished, so when I received my current phone I felt like it had already been old. iPhones don't have long life spans, for one. I would drop it a couple times and the edge of the screen would pop out but i would just push it back in using some force. Another problem it had is that it would die even when it had about 30% of battery left. Earlier today, it did the same. Trying to get my charger, the phone accidentally fell off of the bed while it was dead. As usual i check for cracks or the screen popping out and that didn't happen. I charged it and when i tried going on my phone I was only able to use half of the screen. The other half was covered in those lines that appear when the screen is damaged. My immediate reaction was to plug it into my laptop to backup the phone before more damage happened to the phone but I had procrastinated on updating itunes. It took about two hours for iTunes to completely download. Meanwhile the screen had just completely failed on me showing only the colorful lines, but i was still receiving calls and the phone could still vibrate, i just couldn't see or check anything at all. Once i was going to back it up, itunes said my phone was in recovery mode and that i had to restore my phone. I have precious photos that i want to keep when i get a new phone. Is it possible to backup the phone without using itunes and just using icloud? its saying my phone is connected yet im unable to see any proof of that other than the sound my laptop makes when i plug it back in. Also, if that doesn't work or is not possible, will i be able to just stick my sim card into a new phone and will i be able to keep my data?

That's what I figured. When i go on icloud it shows the bar of the storage, and since i havent purchased extra, i only have the free 5gb. in icloud the bar shows the amount ive used and it says "backup" on the bar. It's not a link it's just a label. Does that mean it's backed up automatically on icloud?

  • IS IT POSSIBLE TO CREATE A PO WITHOUT PLANT

    HELLO EXPERTS,
    I have following business scenario,,
for a material X , price for plant A is 20 rupees and for other plant 25 rupees.
I have created one info record for that .
PLANT SPECIFIC INFO RECORD (plant A) 20 rupees
INFO RECORD (WITHOUT ANY PLANT )   25 rupees
but when i going to make a PO it will ask for plant , and after i giving the plant name it will pick the plant specific value(20 rupees). So I cant able to do the 2nd scenario, i mean ..with 25 rupees.
As I know that it is not possible to make a purchase order without PLANT.
SO IS THERE ANY ALTERNATIVE WAY TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM.
again in my screen layout setting ( standard purchase order NB / NBF ). IN BASIC item PLANT HAS OPTIONAL ENTRY NOT REQUIRED ENTRY.Than why it is asking that plant is mandatory when i m making a standard PO.
    plz hepl me
    regards

    Hi,
Without entering the Plant you cann't create the PO. Plant is mandatory.
If your Materials is maintained in 2 Plant then the Price in both the plants is different (20 & 25)
So in the same PO you can enter the 2 line items with the same material and enter the 2 plants respectiviely with the net price as 20 & 25 (or will pick from Info record)
If you want same material is valuated in 2 price in single plant you can use the Split valuation method ( Val category & valuation type )
