Is it possible to pause a video clip?

Hi,
Could anybody tell me if it possible to pause a video clip for a few frames and then resume playing later in the project?
I guess I could chop the video clip into several discrete shorter clips and create some static freezeframes, and then play them all one after the other to crate the same effect.
But that sounds clumsy so I wondered if there is a way to pause/resume a video clip within a project.

Many thanks for the pointers. I excitedly booted-up Motion to explore further...
... but I couldn't find anything called Timing remap or re-timing etc. Then it dawned on me that I should have specified that I'm still using Motion 2, and I guess those features are only available in Motion 3?
However, armed with the new phrase 'Timing Remap', I dived back into Google and came up with this article:

This explains how to use the Scrub filter (also available in Motion 2) to control the playback of video clips relative to the project.
Its a bit fiddly, but I'm comfortable with basic arithmetic, so I can certainly use it to achieve the effect I want (basicaly I need a video clip to pause and then resume a few times throughout a project).

press the rightmost arrow on the QT player, but hold
down the Ctr key instead.

Hello, Mr. Ouderkirk.......... I FEEL LIKE THE BIGGEST NERD ON THE PLANET. I read your reply and also the reply of NewMacGuru and do not see any of the items to which you both refer. First of all, I actually was able to get the download by following Mike Wong's instructions, but you were very kind to reply and I want to acknowledge you (and I also want to learn what you are trying to teach me!!).
The thing for me is: I see a blank screen with a video clip icon. There are no down arrows, there is no indication of a QUICKTIME player anywhere. Thus, your and NewMacGuru's instructions to me to click this and that thing is like telling the nomad in the desert, "Find that Coke machine, insert 75¢, and the can will fall out" and the nomad is sitting there on his camel, scratching all the hairs out of his head. (But in a loving way.)
A menu will appear giving you the option to save the
movie to the desktop (at least it does that on my
computer, but I do use QT Pro)
An alternative for you could be to use Ambrosia
software's 'Wiretap' which lets you grap any sound
that your computer produces.

Harry, I like the idea of Ambrosia, but there is the Basic 101 part of my brain that wants me to understand everyone's explanations. IMovie-it possible to add a video clip into an existing piture?????

if i have an existing picture, (still), is it possible to cut a small clip from a movie, and place it on the picture? If so, obviously the picture would stay still, but would the movie keep rolling????

you're looking for a socalled 'pic-in-pic' effect..
unfortunately, iM08 only supports a still on a video, not a video on a still..
you need tools as QuicktimePro or advanced editors as FinalCutExpress to accomplish such an effect.

Is it possible to export a video clip from DVD player to iMovie '09?

If I load a homemade DVD onto my iMac using Disk Utility and then import either the entire disc or portions of the disc into iMovie, that works just fine. However I noticed that some clips are missing in iMovie, even though they are on the iMac in form of a .dmg file on the desktop. The same file that was used to import in to iMovie. If I look at this file using DVD player, everything is there, but some of these clips are missing in the event window. So I created a video clip in DVD player of those pieces missing in iMovie and now how can I get these into iMovie?

Hey, best way to import video from a DVD video disc for editing is to acctually have a simple video file. Use Handbrake or MPEG StreamClip to read the disc and create a video file off the video stream.
You could also set in and out points anc manually create several clips, which may help with playback and rendering for editing. I don't know how extensive you're going to get in your editing with iMovie...

First i'm totally new to Final Cur Pro x. Is it possible to add a videoclip to the multicam file i've created ? I've created a multicam file with 2 angles and got them aligned manually cause FCP couldn't do it right. Anyway now i want to add a third angle is that possible.

Is it Possible to Overlap Two or More Video Clips at Once?

I'm wondering if it's possible to overlap two video clips onto each other (e.g. one video of someone singing and another one of someone playing guitar). This would be similar to overlapping tracks in Garageband. Is it also possible to record over a track (e.g. record a video of someone singing as the video of someone playing guitar is being played?) If so, I was wondering how this can be achieved. Thanks!

Seems when I attended an Adobe NAB seminar they said that it is possible to import a video clip into Photoshop to use tools, like clone, to remove objects from the clip. Is this possible and if so, is there a tutorial outlining the process. Thanks,

Triggering a video clip

I know how to assign an audio file to a keyboard and trigger that file by playing that specific key on the keyboard. Is it possible to assign a video clip (with it's underlying audio) to a keyboard key and trigger it in Logic?

Thanks for the quick reply. If I extract the audio so I can trigger it...is there a painless way of synced it back to each individual video clip from which the original audio came? I have Final Cut Express if I need to use that.

Playhead info for imported video clips is static/constant in iMovie 9 as I scroll over the clips. Is it possible to make it display correct info?

HI, I have been importing videos clips from a SD card to iMovie 09. These clips are analyzed for animal behavior and the timing information for a specific event is critical for proper analyses. Most of the times, the imported clips display correct timing information for a given frame as I scroll over the clips. However, sometimes, some clips show a static or constant timestamp for all the frames in a clip and the timing information doesn't change in the playhead as I scroll over different frames.
For such clips, I was wondering if it's possible to display correct timing information for the frames, and how? Since I only need frame timing info relative to the starting point, I am open to a solution that involves readjusting starting timestamp.

Several ways to do this.
I would scrub to the in point of the audio you want to change, then drag all the way back to the beginning of the clip. Then EDIT/SPLIT CLIP or right-click/Split Clip. Then go to the out point of the audio clip and drag to the right to the end of the clip. Then Edit/Split Clip. The clip in the middle should have your 25 minutes of audio.

I actually think the content gets smoother in faster mode. But maybe that's just my opinion.
By the way, the fast/slow/reverse effect is pretty sensitive, i use it for my fight scenes in movies and I can only raise the bar one notch faster before it starts to look cheesy.

Is it possible to split an added audio clip (like you can with the video clips)?

I'm working in iMovie 9. I've recorded a audio voiceover that I added to my video clips.
I want to be able to split the voiceover audio so I can separate the different sentences and move them to where they are appropriate relative to the video.
With video, this is easily done with shift+command+S.
I tried selecting the audio track and doing shift+command+S but it doesn't work.
I can't figure out how to do this. Is it possible?

I now remember a few years ago having the same problem, and I contacted Apple and suggested they make this possible in future versions of iMovie. Guess they listened to me!

I edit all videos in Final Cut Pro. My last video clip is a piano recital. And there is a phone rining during biutiful piano performance. Anybody knows how to remove it without removing this part of music?

Looks like you're using FCPX so this is the wrong forum, pop over to the FCPX forum and ask there, although I think the answer will be, always keep phones on silent at piano recitals.
