Is it possible to place a video into a circle frame for export as interactive PDF?

I've been trying to figure out how to embed video files into a circle shape frame for export as interactive pdf. Every time I export the document as interactive PDF, the video frame reverts back to a rectangle shape. Basically what I'm attempting to do is embed a .gif like animation of a face (saved as mp4 because it's my understanding that PDF can't support gif files) in a circle frame that plays on document load when exported as interactive pdf. Any suggestions, bypasses, solutions would be much appreciated.

Correct! Good solution!
But you missed a couple steps in your directions:
(1) Make a rectangle filled with Paper color.
(2) Make a circle filled with None (this will be the mask for the movie).
(3) Move the circle over the rectangle. Select both and choose Object > Path > Make Compound Path. This creates a paper-color rectangle with a hole.
(4) Position the rectangle-with-hole object over the movie to position the mask.
(5) Use the Buttons and Forms panel to make that object into a button. Give it an action of playing the movie.
(6) Choose File > Export > PDF (Interactive).
It works because the button (which has interactivity) is atop another object which has interactivity (the movie).
Brilliant!

Is it possible to place a formula into a form?

Why not? There seems to be a lot of requests/inquiries for this type of support? Not having this function is extremely limiting to us...to the point where we may have to abandon acrobat forms central all together and purchase a product which isn't limiting or misleading in their offered features.

  • Is it possible to place a video inside a frame or behind an object to crop it?

I'm trying to place a video behind a psd of a TV screen that is a different aspect ratio than the placed video. When I try to place it inside a frame or behind the psd with a clear window, it will not export to interactive pdf as such. It shows the vid full size. Is there any way around this?

    Lauragalora119,
There's a way around this. But it takes a few steps.
    Place your video as usual.
Now, create a frame that would be the outside of the TV screen. Now create another curved corner rectangle that would be the screen of the TV. Select them both. I would make these outside the area of the video as you don't want the video to be the in the next step.
With those two frames selected, choose Objects> Pths> Compound Path Make.
You now have a hole in the frames.
Fill with a color or Paper. Optional: Import an image of the woodgrain of a TV set.
Now, with this compound path selected, choose Buttons and Forms and make this a button that does nothing.
Now, if you were to export this as a PDF, the video will play "inside" the screen frame but it's really playing behind a button. The button is on top of the video because it was on top of the video in the ID file.
However, you can't click on the video to play it because it's behind the button. PDFs don't recognize the holes in compound paths.
SO, back in InDesign, I created a little round button that I would consider the dial to turn on the TV. (I'm old enough to remember televisions that had rounded objects to turn them on and off. You may want a more digital looking object.)
This button will have an action applied that plays the video.
    TaDa!!! You've done it!
And your day is not ruined.

Can I expect a video to be in high resolution in an interactive PDF?
I’m doing a project in which I want to burn a music video and a image portfolio. The images look very good when exported but the video stutters and is pixelated. Can I expect the video to look as good as if I would burn it in Encore for example?

Thanks for your quick reply. Sorry, should have said that. I'm using CS5.5
Thing is, this is going to be a promotion DVD with the video and some pictures. I heard about the interactive PDF and liked the way I could build it like a portfolio, the way you can click through the images
and click to see the video.Everything looks good except the video.
I tried to do this in Encore but there I got bad image quality and good video quality. In InDesign I get bad video quality and good image quality.
My video is made in Premiere pro so maybe I should check the media encoder.
But, with the project I want to do, what program would you suggest?

  • Making my video into a Circle on screen

Not sure the exact wording. I'm trying to make my video clip into a circle on the center of the screen. From what I know I assume going to the motion tab and changing the size and distorting it should do it. It seems I can only make the video into rectangles, squares, etc anything with angles. Is there any way to round off those angles and shrink it so the video shows up as a perfect circle in the center of the screen?

Is there a way to do this and have another video playing in the background behind the video playing in the circle without changing the opacity of any of the videos. Around the circle background it is all black and if I changed the opacity to blend the videos the black would still show up behind the other videos. So I guess what I'm asking is: Is there a way to put a video in a circle without affecting the video behind it, just put it right on top?

  • Video/Movie won't play when exported as a PDF.

    Hello,
I am creating an interactive PDF using CS5 to display video work. Unfortunately, the video won't play when exported as an interactive PDF, I am just left with blank space. I find this very odd as it plays in preview and also when exported as a SWF but that file type is unsuitable for the project.
Initially when I exported it I got this message: "One or more of the interactive elements are clipped in ways the pdf files can't reproduce...." Obviously, I have ensured the file is resized correctly and also tried .mov, .mp4 and also .flv file types with no success. I have also checked the simple things like ensuring all the right boxes are ticked when I export.
This is not the first time I have embedded video but it is the first time without success despite following the same pattern. Any ideas as to why this would be and how to fix it?
    Thank you,
    Laura

Use Flv or f4v format, after you have placed video into your layout, make sure that you don´t scale or crop video frame at all.
(Whren you File > Place a video, you will have a loaded cursor with video icon. Click the empty spot on page with loaded cursor, don´t draw a rectangle or click on the top of some exisiting frame)
It´s important that you have your video in 100% encoded size in your layout. If you need to scale or crop it, load that video into Adobe Media Encoder and do it there, and re-encode the video to the correct size and shape aftrwards.
Adobe Media Encoder ships with InDesign.

  • Video disappears when exporting to Interactive pdf

    Hi,
I have just started using InDesign yesterday and am trying to put together an interactive pdf. It is essentially a pdf catalogue with several clients on it. I have carried out all the hyperlinking, but now I want to embed a video into the pdf. I do so by importing a video file and configuring it with the interactive media box. Every time I export he pdf however, the video is completely missing.
I have tried to convert it with Media Encoder to flash, mp4, avi, h.264 etc. I'm not really sure how I can fix it so that it remains an interactive element in a pdf. I have been playing around with the Adobe pdf presets and still nothing.
Could somebody please help me? Complete noob here
    Cheers

You mentioned you have played with PDF presets? Are you sure you have exported Interactive PDF not Adobe PDF (Print)? Those are two different formats in InDesign´s Export File format list... videos are not supported in PDF for print format. And PDF presets works only with PDF for Print, not with Interactive PDF format.
If you are using proper Interactive PDF format, make sure you have checked (Forms and) Media;  Include All option in export window.

  • Export to interactive PDF with video

    Hello,
i tried many times to create a simple white document with just a place of "flv" video in the middle.
I set up the PDF export to interactive...but when i open the PDF i can't reproduce the video, just see the preview image.
If i export to SWF it works.
how can i export the content to a PDF and include the video in the pdf ??
    thank you

    Thank you for quick reply.
    unfortunatly it's not that problem.
i noticed that the PDF file created is just 27 kb!! the video is like 100 Mbytes...so it seems that i haven't included it in the pdf files.
when i configure the PDF preset in the "Include" frame i have just one choice:
    Interactive elements: "Include Appearance"
i see that in the tutorial for export they all have a checkbox with "x Interactive documents" then "Embeed all".
why i haven't this option? maybe cause of this i can't view and include video in pdf?
    thanks

  • How can I keep the quality of an MP4 video high when I export an interactive PDF from InDesign?

I am making an Interactive PDF with embedded MP4 video using InDesign.  When I view the video in the PDF it has degraded the quality and the colour contrast is poorly affected.  I can have the video as a floating window but this gives a harsh black line around the video when it plays which is not acceptable.
Can anyone advise how to maintain the quality of the original video when it is embedded?

You can control the quality of the video (aspect ratio, pixel dimensions, frames/minute, etc.) by using the Adobe Media Encoder which comes with InDesign CS5 or later installations, including InDesign CC. InDesign only includes what you have placed and passes it on to the PDF file. There are no video quality controls in InDesign.
You cannot change the way Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader displays the MP4. If you don't like the way Acrobat/Reader handles display of a floating window, then you'll have to display it within the page. For more info, inquire in the Rich Media Acrobat forum.

  • Is it possible to create a keyboard shortcut for "Export book to PDF"? (Cannot find it in the Keyboard Shortcuts window.)

I'd like to create a keyboard shortcut for the "Export Book to PDF" command on the Books panel menu, but I simply can't find that command in Keyboard Shortcuts. After not finding it in what seemed the logical place (Keyboard Shortcuts > Product Area: Panel Menus > Book), I've looked through all the Product Areas listed on the dropdown menu -- but it seems I must be missing something.
What do I need to do / where do I need to look to assign a keyboard shortcut for this command?

Sorry, I agree that that is missing in action. I don't know of a workaround unless someone has written a script. Scripts can be called with keystrokes.

  • How do I place a video into Muse?

I have converted a .mov file to .swf file. When I place it into Muse I get the box with the Flash f in top left coner, but when
I preview the page there is no video.
I have a swf file directly from flash that is animated with audio and it shows. What is the diference in the files and how do I get the video to run?

It's strange it's not working, but it was a long time ago I imported a Flash animation into Muse. However i strongly recommend if it's not too much trouble to try and rework it into Adobe Edge Animate as this creates an .oam version (animated directly into HTML 5 compliant code) and works perfectly across all browsers.
Failing that try the following link to the W3C schools website as you might be able to link their HTML code to your video.
And lastly, if all that fails and it's for example an animation portfolio; upload it to YouTube and copy the HTML embed code and that always works really well.

  • Possible to include camera videos into iDVD Slide Show?

I would like to include the short camera videos with my still pictures in a slide show, is IDVD or iPhoto slide show capable of this.
My nephew used a program (ROXO -I think) on his PC to do what I am attempting on my MAC - can someone tell me if they have been able to do this using Apple's programs.

    Hi Peter,
One question I do have is that if I "assemble" the pictures and movie clips in iMovie, then export them to iDVD..
..What about incorporating that with the Themes and structure that iDVD uses ??
Not sure I understand your question. iMovie is for editing movies (including still images). iDVD is for publishing a DVD using movie and still image assets. iDVD cannot edit any of the imported assets. The themes in iDVD are for setting up menu pages that allow the viewer to control the flow of the movies/still images, e.g. you can set up a button to start a movie, a button to start a slideshow, a button to a submenu with movie chapters.
It's a shame you can't drag'n'drop movies into iDVD like you can picures - Would make iDVD even more useful and powerful.
You do able to drag'n'drop a movie into iDVD, this will add a button on the menu page. It is just not able to "assemble" multiple assets into one long movie, that requires iMovie.
