Is it possible to plug my Xbox into my iMac?

I know about the Elgato thing, BUT I have very little money.
Is there a way to use my iMac as a monitor for cheap?

No. The iMac does not have any video-in ports

On the phone, under Settings > iCloud you can select to turn iCloud ON or OFF.
One iTunes, it senses that toggle and if you had selected iCloud it will say backup to iCloud. Here you can change the toggle to backup to computer and click "Apply" prior to syncing.
I do both for good measure. I backup to computer and then after i disengage the device from the computer, I set the iCloud toggle back to ON and then perform the iCloud backup over wifi.
I found that using iTunes and saying to backup to iCloud isn't always successful in the "last backed up" time and thus I do it separately.

When you connect your iPad or iPod to the Mac, click on the device name in iTunes - don't click on the arrow on the device. Then click on the Music tab in the main window pane. Now you should see 'Sync Music' and all your playlists, artists and albums. Here you mark the checkboxes for what should be synced.

  • IPhoto launches every time i plug my iPad into my iMac

Every time I plug my ipad into my imac to sync it launches iphoto. Not sure why this continues to happen. Anyone have any ideas that can help me??

No promises but a system Reset cures many ills and takes but a minute to perform:
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.
A Reset does NOT delete apps, photos, movies, music or any other data. A Reset does NOT delete any settings for email, network access, etc.
Also, you might wish to download the 4.2 User Guide. Pay special attention to page 170.

Is there a way to configure Snow Leopard to allow for internet but not network access?
Well, 'internet' is 'network access' so at one level your question makes no sense.
If, on the other hand, what you want to do is segregate your Mac from the other machines then that's a different issue. There are numerous ways of doing that, but most would involve some level of interaction with the network administrators. Given their ana^H^H^H attitude towards Macs that may be an issue.
The best way would be to setup a separate VLAN for the Mac. This will create a separate logical network within the company network with only this Mac and the network router in it. No PC would see the Mac, and the Mac wouldn't be scarred by seeing all those PCs. This cannot be done without buy-in from the network admins, though.
A step down from that would be to use one PC in the network as a gateway to the rest of the network. The Mac would talk to this PC, and the PC would pass the data out to the rest of the network. This would require admin rights on the PC, though, which you may or may not have (I've seen a lot of corporate networks… :: shudder ::)
The last option would be to setup an entirely separate internet connection for the Mac but there are logistical issues there, too.
My advice: Buy a dozen Krispy Kremes for the network guys and sweet talk them into building you a VLAN.

  • Is it possible to plug a preprocessor into wtk?

Well, it's possible to use a postprocessor (obfuscator/optimizer) so it could be possible to use a preprocessor, however I cannot find a way how to plug it into wtk. I like the toolkit because it simplifies packaging, signing and provides cool tools so I'm not really excited about switching the build platform at the moment (e.g. makefiles). I'm currently using WTK 2.5.1 for linux.

The antenna (ant) provides a easier way of preprocessing.

  • Is it possible to plug my iPad2 into the Cinema Display (Mini Displayport)?

I'd like to use my Cinema Display w/ Mini Displayport as my true display for my iPad2. I'm hoping to be able to use it for my light business needs at work and this would be the last thing I need to do in order to feel comfortable to make the switch.

    Josh-
I'm not aware of an adapter that would connect the iPad to your Cinema Display, unless there is an intermediate adapter that would work.
You may have better luck using a different display such as an HDTV.  There are adapters for other displays shown at <Cables & Docks>.

  • Is it possible to plug Apple TV into the Alesis M1Active 520 USB speakers?

    Hey guys,
Is there a way I can hook my Alesis M1Active 520 USB speakers to Apple TV?
It takes USB or 1/4 inch as input, but I can't seem to find a cable/adapter from optical audio/toslink to either.
    Thanks!

You need to use a DAC (Example Only - Not a recommendation or suggestion that this is suitable in your circumstances)

  • HT2646 Is it possible to plug apple tv into my stereo sound system which does not have digital optical input

I have recently bought Apple tv. It works fine but I would like to run it through my sound system which is an older stereo system and does not have an optical digital input. Is there any other way of running apple tv through these older sound systems which do not have an optical input?

The easiest way is to connect your television's analog audio output to your stereo; since the television is now doing the digital-to-analog audio conversion, audio/video synchronization is preserved. Note that you may have to enable the analog audio output somewhere in your televsion's setup menus; this varies by TV model.

  • Does Apple make a cord to plug a guitar into the iMac?

I saw an Apple tutorial video that showed a little white cable that a guitar could plug into. The male end plugged into the back of the Mac. Anybody know where I can get one, or what it's officially called? The local Apple store was no help.

That was probably an iMic - an audio interface that lets you connect your guitar to an USB port.
Does your guitar have a buit-in pre-amp? If not, you might be better of with an interface like the Apogee Jam.

  • When i plugged a projector into my iMac the resolution changed on my desktop

I'm a relativly new user to mac.  When i plugged a projector in through an adapter via HDMI the resolution changed on my iMac & I am unable to set it back to the way it was.  Am i missing something?

Sorry to say but no hope.
With an external display/projector connected to the iMacs there are two ways to layout the two displays:
    - Mirror Mode: where both display show the exact same content and where the display with the lowest resolution sets the resolution for both displays.
It's not possible to use different resolutions on both display with this mode.
    - Extended Mode: where the second display is an extension to the first one and both can use their highest resolution.

  • I have all of my photos on a seagate external hard drive from a windows based computer. Can I plug external hd into my iMac and download photos with no issues?

Can I just plug in my external harddrive to download the saved pictures from my windows computer to my Imac?

That should work.  A box like icon will appear on the desktop.  Double click  on icon.
If for some reason a message asks you to format, do not format. Pull out the cable on the external hardrive.  Ask for more advice here.

  • How do I plug a microphone into my iMac?

I'm trying to use my gaming headset with my iMac -- it is easy to find the headphone plug but, I where can I plug in the microphone.  The plug is a similar style to the headphone plug -- not a USB.
    Thanks,

newer thin imacs don't have mic in any more
you will have to use an usb mic
or an external usb audio card which you then connect the mic to

  • App update on 4S frozen in "download now" mode.  The screen will not respond to touch, anywhere.  Rest of iPhone working AOK.  I plugged into my iMac and opened ITunes

While playing Book Worm, a message appeared that there are updates for the iPhone (at no cost!).  There was no indication on the App icon of an update.  I proceeded, entered my password and the "Download Now, iBooks will now begin to download" appeared with the OK box.  Tapping same has done nothing (this started yesterday).  Now the App icon indicates 1 update.  I plugged the iPhone into my iMac, opening both the App store and ITunes -- nothing.  So my App application is frozen and I'm out of ideas.  I need help, please.

Thanks, but frozen screen negates this.  The download was not at my request, but at an iPhone update & giving me the opportunity to download 4 apps at no cost.
Per a suggestion elsewhere here, I powered off, i.e., holding power & home buttons simultaneously, got the Apple logo, entered the App store and the freeze was gone, and the offered downloads nowhere to be found on my phone.  Well, at least App store is available again.

  • Does Apple make Electric Guitar cable to plug into my iMac?

A few people have mentioned that I can buy a cable made by Apple that will allow me to plug my guitar into my iMac, but I don't see it for sale on apple.com
Has anyone heard of this? Thanks a ton!

There is a cable sold by Griffin that plugs from your guitar right into your Mac. However, most people think this is quite useless and overpriced because
    • a simple cable isn't enough - you need something to push the level of your guitar's signal, either a mixer or some kind of audio interface. The Griffin cable is meant to work with the iMic interface, but they don't advertise that very clearly so people think they just have to plug it into the Mac.
    • To make a connection with a 1/4" plug on one side and a 1/8" on the other, you don't really have to buy an expensive new cable, a simple adaptor and a normal guitar cable will do.
