Is it possible to power the macbook pro on just the wall charger, without the battery?
I'd like to be able to not even use the battery on my computer. Is it possible to run it just off of the wall plugin?
I have a late 08 Macbook Uni, I wanted to run it without the battery when I first got it since I got used to running my Dell Laptop without batteries to save my battery from dying because of windows bad power management.
I found out that my macbook runs much slower without the battery. Can't really tell you why it just does.
Do remember that Macbooks have a much better power management system than windows. My Dell Laptop battery didn't even last 3 years before it fully died.
My late 08 Macbook is way over it's 1000 charge cycle ( i'm at 1067 ) and i'm still getting over 3 hours from my original battery.
I suggest you leave your battery in.
Just follow apple's battery care procedure to make your battery last longer - if that's what you're worried about.

I bought my 15" macbook pro just a year ago and my battery life runs out extremely quickly. This started maybe a month or two ago. Its hard to tell. I only noticed the rapid change recently. Fully charged it says I have 2:27 (2 hours and 27 minutes) of usage time...with about 50% screen and keyboard brightness.
I've checked inside system preferences and its cycle count is 261 and full charging cap is 6316.
I have apple care...is this something i can/need to take up with apple. You'd think if you pay the price for these machines you should get mroe use out of them.

i have the 1st gen unibody (2008) with an original removable battery of 311 cycles and 4453 charge. under normal use ill be happy to get 1.5hrs. the mac battery counter thing says i have 3.3hrs though (whatever). compared to me, i think you use your battery more than i do, perhaps its the reason why it degraded so fast in a year? -

I just realized that the computer will never get beyond 1GHz, both in Windows and Mac OS (I checked with Sisoft, CPU-Z, and CoreDuoTemp) when I remove the battery and run on AC Adapter. Dont worry,this is the nature of Macbook Pros or Macbooks.When we are using our mac,the power consumption is not constant but fluctuates instead.At certain moments,the power consumption will go beyond what the AC adapter can supply...when this happens,the battery will have to provide extra power to cater those needs.
If the battery is not present at these moments,the system will simply shut down by itself to prevent any damage to the circuits and thus losing unsaved data.This is imperative for people who are performing rendering tasks as long hours of data processing will culminate to nothing in the event of such "moments".
To address this issue,the SMC(System Management Controller) will limit the usage of the CPU to 50% of its nominal speed if the battery is removed in order to prevent such "moments" from occuring. -

Sorry it won't work. It will fit but the laptop can't communicate with it. Please see many of the other threads here, specifically this one just above your post, that is discussing this exact question.
Apple's specs for the ThunderBolt display state that it needs a ThunderBolt-enabled computer. Your laptop has a mini-display port connection so it is not compatible with the new displays. -
My new macbook pro 13" just died and i can not turn it on. When i connect the power cort it also does nor charge. No light is commong on. I was working on battery power when it died and the battery was fully charged. What is the problem?
Take it back to the Apple Store for repair since it's still in warranty.

MacBook Pro turns on but will not load. Battery will power up and charge. The PRAM second start up seems to work, but the Apple timer continues add-infinitum. There is also a disc in the laptop so I can't load re-load software OS 10.6.1. How do I resolve this problem?
Try booting in Safe Mode by holding your Shift key down when booting. Also, try holding the eject key down when booting to eject the DVD. If you plug a mouse in and hold the clicker down when booting, that should eject the DVD.

NO power on my MacbookPro: it all started with Battery of my MacBook Pro saying it was not charging (even if the pro was plugged) and it then switched off and now wont turn back on. There is no light on the magsafe and no startup noises at all.
If you have Apple Care or your computer is still under warranty, give them a call and get a case number. Otherwise, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP. Whichever is more convenient for you.

Maybe it's because of the SMC reset I've done.
My computer wasn't responding to the power button when pressed and used to shut down unexpectedly so I did the SMC reset as per the procedure hereafter.

So according to you, the battery seems to work properly and doesn't need to be replaced.
Don't know if it's important but the figures I gave where the one with magsafe connected.
In fact for the time beeing I only use my computer with magsafe plugged.
I just unplugged the magpower and here are the new figures after 10 minutes.

Power on MacBook Pro takes me to login screen. All user icons appear as normal. Once I enter password for myself (administrator) spinning takes longer than normal and doesn't log in but displays a no sign (circle w line through it) when attempting to login from guest account it takes me to screen that says that the computer will restart to a safe safari system for the guest user. I waited for a longer time and the grey denim screen comes up. By the apple in left upper corner it said I think LSA? Then safari menu bar. My mid-2009 MacBook Pro has just died via a painful (for me) hard drive failure. I backed up a good percentage of files recently but not enough to keep me happy. I need to access the dead drive on the MBP via a 2008 iMac. Best options?
I have ordered a 800 firewire to 800 firewire cable and am hoping to use the target mode option to copy files from the MBP.

My MacBook pro is just over 3 years old now and the screen has totally blacked out for a few seconds at a time. It will come back on in a few seconds with the exception this past month it has stayed black for a longer period of time like one minute. It scares me to think that one of these times it won't come back on. I have noticed it happens more often when I am using just the battery power. Does anyone have any idea what causes this? just to mention my battery was not low when this happens.

if your MacBook Pro is a 15-inch Mid 2010 model (“MacBookPro6,2”), then it might be exhibiting the defect that is documented on this Apple Support page. If your black screen is due to this defect, then that page states that Apple will service this problem on this specific model of MacBook Pro gratis, for three years from the date of purchase. However, some commenters here have noted that sometimes the servicing is done gratis without having proof of the date of purchase. If you have an Apple Store near you, you might consider bringing your MacBook Pro there to have them check for the presence of this defect.
It is only the 15-inch Mid 2010 model that has this problem; no other model suffers from it. -

alexThe Thai online Apple Store lists only Thai and International English as keyboard options, so you can't order a German keyboard from there. I doubt that the German KB is available from Thai resellers either, unless there is one who serves a primarily foreign clientele, and a large part of that clientele is German.

I have an old MacBook Pro, which just upgraded to OS X 10.10.3...in the process iPhoto disappeared, along with all my photos! I'm shocked, and have no idea what to do (I'm the furthest thing from tech). Did the photos go into iCloud? I have a photos icon now in the place of iPhoto, but no photos! Any suggestions or help?

When I have turned on my MacBook Pro it just sits there at the intial apple screen and doesnt proceed to the screen where you can sign on - any ideas
when you restart the machine, make sure you uncheck the "reopen windows" check box, and see if that helps.
