Is it possible to print non-standard photo sizes?

hello-
i searched the forums but could not find anything related to my question. thanks in advance for any advice you have.
i want to print a photo that is an odd size 6x10 for use in a scrapbook. this is my first time printing a photo that is not a standard size and i have been unable to find how to do this.
i have tried to set a custom paper size in "Page Setup" (hoping to "trick" it into doing it). However, the custom size does not show up in iPhoto.
I am editing to add that I am printing at home on a Canon Pixma iP6000D.
Please help!
Thanks,
Vanessa

Vanessa:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can't do it with iPhoto. You'll need a 3rd party application. Give Seashore a try. It is a freeware application. You can crop and resize in Seashore to print any sized image you want. For more advanced editors you might consider GraphicConverter or Photoshop Elements. PSE is capable of some very advanced editing.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How do I set the paper size to 11 x 14 (standard photo size) on the Prixma Pro 100?

    I have not been able to set the paper sixe to 11 x 14 on the Prixma Pro 100.  What is the trick to making it a custom size? Why wasn't a standard photo size included in the selectable sizes?

     It is easy to do, if not a little wasteful. Just select 11 x 17 or 13 x 19 paper size in the page set up. Then Light Room, or PS, will let you specify 11 x 14. You will need to trim the paper after it is printed.

  • AV output and non-standard frame sizes

    I usually work in non-standard frame size for my FCP projects because my final output will be in a 2:35:1 ratio. I use a Blackmagic Ultrastudio Mini Monitor as an HDMI output to a client monitor. Up until a few months ago the AV output of FCPX would allow the Mini Monitor to accept a frame size of 1920x818 and letterbox the output to 16x9 on this consumer grade LCD. One day, this just stopped working... I've reached out to Blackmagic and they have no solution or reason why this happened, and are not willing to offer support since what I was achieving wasn't an "officially supported" feature. Now, the AV output will distort the image vertically to fill a 16x9 frame. At this point I am stuck having to use either a matte layer or a widescreen effect on individual clips to output correctly to my monitor which increases edit time having to re-render any edits underneath the matte and having to re-order the letterbox effect after apply color correction etc. It was also very easy to adjust the frame offset with this wide angle project size.
    Is anyone editing in 2:35:1 (or other cinema standard) projects and getting successful conversion on output? What are you using?
    Cheers,
    Matt

    Thanks Tom, you clarified it .......  or at least something clicked in my brain.
    I was trying to set "Custom" when I created the new project.
    I didn't know, or had forgotten, that in the "error" window I could select "Custom".
    All is now well and FCP X 10.1.1 is pretty clever after all!
    There is one weird thing I'd like to mention.
    When I clicked on "Custom" the 960 x 600  frame dimensions appeared but the  frame rate was listed as 23.98p as shown in the screenshot below.
    So what's wrong with that?
    Well the clip is 30p  and I naturally thought I was going to end up with a project with an incorrect frame rate.
    Now here's the funny thing  .........  when I selected the project and viewed it in the Inspector it was the correct 30p
    So why was I given that worrying piece of misinformation.

  • I thought FCP X 10.1.1 could handle non-standard frame sizes?

    Yesterday I was demonstrating FCP X 10.1.1 to a friend.
    As time was limited I imported the nearest piece of video I could find, which happened to be part of an H.264  video tutorial with a frame size of  960 x 600 and a frame rate of 30fps.
    I hit the E key to send it to the timeline only to receive the old "not recognised" error message as shown below.
    I thought I may have created the project incorrectly but when I repeated with a new project I double-checked that I had selected "Set based on first video clip".
    I thought that FCP X 10.1.1 would automatically recognise a non-standard frame size and simply create an appropriate project.
    I was too busy doing the demo to investigate at the time but later I discovered that there was no problem creating a 960 x 600 custom project manually.
    It's a pity FCPX is not clever enough to do it automatically  ............  or can it?

    Thanks Tom, you clarified it .......  or at least something clicked in my brain.

  • Does it Possible? Double non standard-port FTP servers on PAT?

    Hello everyone!
    I need to know how to configure 2 ftp servers for following topology on pic.
    non standard ports
    I can do translation on 1 ftp server (http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/ip/network-address-translation-nat/13776-6.html)
    but when I am trying to add second FTP server I get following:

    % similar static entry (192.168.1.236 -> x.x.y.y) already exists
    Thank you.

    Hello Jody.
    That's is great! Thank you! Just added couple "ip nat service" and now working!
    Also I noticed one thing.. 2 FTP servers is NAS Synology and that FTP servers have been configured slightly different. Look at the screenshot. With checked box "Report external ip in PASV mode".
    When FTP server with marked box it's doesn't work.
    When FTP server with unchecked box it does work.
    I've noticed that different and fixed it.
    Very interesting in the reason of that difference.

  • MFP M177FW non standard paper sizes

    hi all
    i'm using libreoffice on both windows and linux (mint ubuntu and debian testing) and sometimes i have to print on very non standard sizes: 102 * 333 mm
    it's a huge pain to decently print on such a paper: is there an easy workaround, especially for linux?
    yesterday i've noticed that after some 50 prints on such a format, printer would stop before each print for cooling down, even if it didn't work or has been off for minutes: is it normal?
    thank you
    This question was solved.

    Hi @Carlo85 ,
    I see that you would like a easier method for printing custom sizes and the printer keeps going into cool down mode.
    I can help you.
    I have provided a document with the error code message you are getting.
    Resolving Control Panel Messages.
    You can create a custom form within the print driver.
    Create Custom Paper Sizes in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Mac OS X.
    Sorry I don't have any documentation for Linux. You would have to contact them for further support.

  • Editing non standard video sizes

    Hello everyone.
    I have a load of video which is 1120 x 593 its basically screen capture video from my PC in mov format.  All i want to do is edit these clips together and add some nice effects.  So anyway i toddled off and bought a copy of of premier elements and started movie making!
    Anyway i can't seem to figure out how to retain the size of my video as ive got to use a project template, which is great if you are using video from a device but my video is a non standard size.  Surely there is a way of doing this?
    Do i have to make sure that my imput video matches one of the template, surely not?  You must be able somehow to do your own size?
    Thanks

    Thank you for replying.
    Basically I like to fly x-plane flight simulator which gives you the ability to record your flying and outputs the video as a high quality mov. I wanted to use premier elements just to make a movie of different clips and just add a few effects and titles  I was just going to output them as fla to watch on my pc or the web.  Or as Mpeg 4 to put into powerpoints
    I tried using some of the presets but the quality is either awful or i get the black border.
    I seems that only the profesional edition allows you to set the frame to desktop and use a custom size.   I just can't believe that you need to spend £500 on the CS5 edition to do this? I'm not wanting to do anything clever here, just change the video size.
    Ive got a sinking feeling ive just wasted £75.

  • Printing on non-standard page size

    Hi
    I'm developing a class that prints a single page tiff on plotter. The page size is not standard. In most cases it is as wide as an A0 or as an A3 but the height has to be computed depending on the size of the image.
    First question: how can I get the height in 72nds of an inch from a RenderedImage that contains the tiff? All I can get is its size in pixels, but I cannot get the resolution...
    Second question: I tried to set the paper size in the pageformat with a new instance of Paper and also the imageableArea, but some part of the image are not printed and the image is deformed.
    Have you got any suggestion?
    Here's the piece of my class that actually prints. If you need, I can post the entire class
    class PrintTif implements Printable {
    public int print(Graphics g, PageFormat f, int pageIndex) {
          if (pageIndex >= 1) {
            return Printable.NO_SUCH_PAGE;
          if (renderedImage != null) {
                  //  Converts the image size in 72nd of inch
                  //  supposing it has 200x200 dpi (it is so, but I don't know why)
                  double w = (double) renderedImage.getWidth() / 200.0 * 72.0;
                  double h = (double) renderedImage.getHeight() / 200.0 * 72.0;
                  // Set the papersize and the imageableArea at the sime size
                  Paper paper = new Paper();
                  paper.setSize(w, h);
                  paper.setImageableArea(0,0,w,h);
                  f.setPaper(paper);
                  f.setOrientation(w > h ? PageFormat.LANDSCAPE :
                                   PageFormat.PORTRAIT);
            // convert to a BufferedImage since I cannot write a RenderedImage for some reason
            BufferedImage good = new BufferedImage(
                  renderedImage.getWidth(), renderedImage.getHeight(),
                  BufferedImage.TYPE_BYTE_GRAY);
            Graphics2D g2dtemp = (Graphics2D) good.getGraphics();
            g2dtemp.drawRenderedImage(renderedImage, new AffineTransform());
            Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D) g;
            g2d.translate(f.getImageableX(), f.getImageableY());
            g2d.drawImage(good, 0, 0 , (int) f.getImageableWidth(),
                          (int) f.getImageableHeight(), 0, 0,
                          renderedImage.getWidth(),
                          renderedImage.getHeight(), null);
            return Printable.PAGE_EXISTS;
          else {
            return Printable.NO_SUCH_PAGE;

  • Trouble exporting non-standard frame size

    So I have to deliver a Quicktime that's 210w x 190h that will eventually be compressed for web posting. The source footage is DV/NTSC (720x480). I cut my initial sequence at those specs and then nested that into a 210x190 sequence and resized the nest to fit, maintaining aspect ratio (i.e. sides were cropped). But whenever I export to QT, the frame size is stretched horizontally when viewed on a computer monitor. I've tried exporting that sequence "with current settings", set the sequence to square pixels, exported as Animation or "none", exported using Compressor with every conceivable combination....all to no avail. They all spit out the same problem.

  • Minor screen drawing anomaly with non-standard page sizes in outline mode.

    When I use a page size of 5.5 x 8.5, and the window is larger than the page, the right edge of the page is drawn incorrectly. Instead of a small shadow at the right edge, there are black blotches. As far as I can tell, this only occurs in outline mode, only on the first page, only in sizes other than 8.5 x 11.
    Not a big deal, clearly, but someone ought to log it. Some memory somewhere is not getting written correction. This is easily reproducible.
    I'll post a screen shot somewhere if anyone wants to pursue this.

    It is fun to explore this question and I have tried to reproduce the problem, but my Pages09 behaves with "all" different page setups like A4, US Letter, half US Letter , US Legal. It would be nice to see the screen shots if it isn't to much trouble.
    Question - have updated iWorks with the update that came a while ago??

  • Is it possible to use Aperture3 to edit a standard photo into a Na'vi?

    I am considering buying Aperture3, but I want to know if it is possible to turn a standard photo into something resembling a Na'vi from the movie Avatar? That is do color swaps, alter the ears and eyes etc.
    Thanks in advance.

    What you need to do that is Photoshop, The Gimp or a software like that.
    Aperture has a lot of editing capabilities, but it's intended for photographers, not graphic artists.
    However, in Aperture, you can choose to use an external editor for this kind of advanced editing and still keep the original and altered images in a unique, convenient, place.

  • Photo Sizes - Standards

    Fifty Fast Digital Photo Techniques ... In this boook there is "somewhere" a list of Standard Photo Sizes. Since my aging bones cannot find it, would some kind person help out. Walgreens and Shutterfly say they both make 4X6, 5X7, 8X10 and Wallet (size unkown). These sizes are each in a different category according to the "factor 2" rule. I am making different sizes of the same picture and want to use the most efficient sizes ... get the gist of this? There are 200 pictures to be put in 4 or 5 different sizes.

    Hi Kurt
    This puzzles me too.
    How do you know you are saving a photo at 600dpi with 7x5 dimensions? Where is the 7x5 part stored - meta data in a particular application?
    I've experimented with a variety of images in my iPhoto library which only contains files in .jpg format. It doesn't make any sense to me but what seems to be happening is that if the longest side of the image is >= 600 pixels then Pages scales the image to be 300pt on that side.
    Pages appears to use 1 point as it's smallest internal measurement.
    If the image is < 600 pixels on the longest side then it scales the image to be one pixel per point.
    Why 300pt? I've no idea and it might be entirely random. I note however that the number is exactly half the 600dpi resolution of my printer.
    I'm not sure that 600 pixels is the precise threshold where it scales to 300pt but it is my guess with the images that I had to play with.
    I don't know if that is of any help.

  • Patch & Non Standard block

    1) When might one choose non-standard block sizes? Assuming that you mean "why might I create a tablespace that uses a block size that is different than the block size of the database," the reason Oracle built that functionality was to facilitate transporting a tablespace from one database to another when they used different block sizes. That's generally the only reason this makes sense. There are a handful of cases where there might be a valid reason that it might benefit performance but it that is quite rare and changing the block size is even less frequently the best way to solve the performance problem.

  • I to want photo sizes given in inches in iPhoto on my new iMac. How is that done?

    How can I change photo sizes in iPhoto on my new iMac to inches, not cm? Also is it possible to print 2 "4x6" photos on 1 11x8 photo paper? Thanks in advance.

    You don't need to get to preview to take a screenshot.  Here are the key combinations for screenshots:
    Command-Shift-3
    Capture the screen to a file
    Command-Shift-Control-3
    Capture the screen to the Clipboard
    Command-Shift-4
    Capture a selection to a file
    Command-Shift-Control-4
    Capture a selection to the Clipboard
    Use Command-Shift-4 to capture just the part you want to save.

  • Printing Issue - Custom Media Sizes, InDesign CC/Mac Mavericks

    Hi all,
    I've got a strange problem that I hope someone can provide some insight to.  Perhaps this is a bug, but I'd rather ensure that there isn't something here that I haven't understood.
    I have a project that I periodically modify and re-print on custom size media (3.25" x 7.36").  I've used the same Id document and workflows since, probably, Id 2 or 3, updating each time to the latest versions.  The problem may be in the way Id CC interacts with the MacOS X printing system.  The printer in question is a Xerox 8550.
    The project is a one page table printed on this particular card stock.  What's happening is that the printable area on the stock isn't being fully used - the top and bottom of the media aren't being printed - thus the top and bottom of the content is being cut off, in a way that wasn't an issue previously.
    The printer control panel prompts for and accepts the media size correctly (I believe these printers have checks to ensure media fed matches the printable area; the Phaser engine doesn't like printing "off the paper").
    Again, the same document has been used for many years, so I've tried the following steps to isolate and remediate the problem:
    Document Setup: Custom Page Size, verify correct for media.
    Print dialog: "Page Setup..." format for (custom media size defined for OS X), also verified to be correct for media.
    Print dialog: "Setup", paper size Width and Height, correct; orientation correct, offset and gap 0p0, scale 100%.
    Print dialog: PPD correct.
    Recreated document, re-entering sizes and verifying setup.  No change.
    Created a test document, with same settings, and a scale extending outside of the printable area.  The specs for (and my experience with) the printer are that the printable area is 5mm from the edge of the paper.  The result of the test is that the content is cut off at 10-11mm from the edge instead.
    Exported PDF from Id.  Printed using Preview, same OS X page setup configuration.  Printer prompts for correct media size.  Content in test file prints as expected, to 5mm from media edge.
    Printed test document from Acrobat XI, using "Actual Size", "Choose paper source by PDF page size", and "Use custom paper size when needed".  Printer prompts for correct media size, content prints as expected, again, to 5mm from media edge.
    So, in brief, exported PDF prints properly (and this is a workaround), but it's a pain that Id has this issue.  All software involved is up to date.  I haven't tried to dig into the PPD, as PostScript isn't one of my areas of strength, but I'm reasonably sure it's correct.  I've also tried a similar test using Letter-size paper, and that also prints to 5mm.
    I'd love to get some feedback on this.  Many thanks.

    For what its worth, I've been trouble shooting this issue with Adobe / Xerox / Apple for some time now. Here are my findings so far:

    This Email is in regards to the case related to the adobe application and Printing issue ,
    As checked we were able to see that application  is able to create the document with correct size , when checked within Adobe Pdf properties the size was showing as per document specification and when we tried to print the same , the document was showing the same values carried forwarder to the printer and in the preview it was showing the same specific setting of the document size in the printer previewer
    It was during the printing process the same value are not being calculated correctly as per our interaction ,  you were able to use the same in the previous version of Mac  10.8. 5 , please check if there is any update available for the 10.9 version of mac and if it would work on the same ,we would request you to contact your printer help support for the same we are leaving the case open and would request you to call us back if there is any further issue  on  800 833 66 87

    Problem Summary: Scale is incorrect when printing PDFs on custom size paper in OS X 10.9
    Decline Reason: App/3rd party Issue
    Note: I tested using the included process steps:
    STEPS TO REPRODUCE-
    I tested using a PDF that was 6" x 8.5".
    In Acrobat or Adobe Reader, choose File > Print, go to Page Setup and create a custom page size of 8" x 9.5".
    In the Acrobat dialog, set the size to "Actual size".
    Print this to the device, note that the image is about 7" x 10".
    Interestingly, in the Acrobat dialog, if "Choose paper source by PDF page size" is selected, the previewed page size is not that of the document, but instead shows 10.13" x 7.17".  This size will change if different printers are selected.
    Scaling is not an issue when printing to standard page sizes.
    I was able to recreate the issue on a Mac running OS 10.9.1 using the Xerox 7800 print driver. I then tested on Mac OS 10.9.1 using a generic Postscript driver and also recreated the issue.  This indicated that this is not a Xerox driver issue.  I then tested on a Mac OS 10.8.5 using the same Xerox 7800 driver version and it worked as expected without scaling the image.
    Mac OS 10.8.5 uses CUPS version 1.6.2 for printing where 10.9.1 uses CUPS version 1.7.  I believe this is a CUPS issue and you will need to work with Apple to resolve it.

When using Preview the PDF printed to a custom page size at 100% scale comes out the proper size.
