Is it possible to reboot a Macbook?

My trackpad is not responding to clicking on it.  It will highlight an item on the desktop but when I press the track pad it doesn't nothing.  Our old Mac laptop had a battery that you could remove, thus you were able to "reset" it when it acted up.  Can you "reset" a Macbook from 2009?

Reboot typically refers to "Restart". You can hit the Apple then click "Restart".
But if you're just trying to force it to power down, you can hold the power button for about 10 seconds until the fans, etc. power down. Then give it a few seconds and power it back up. Lastly, you can always let the battery die.

The question mark means the computer cannot find a bootable volumes so can;t do anything, That, combined with annoying sounds, strongly suggests a failed hard drive.
You can ask a "genius" at an Apple Rtail Store to test it but I'm pretty sure the drive is kaput. I'm hoping you had your data backed up.

  • I tried to reboot my macbook pro 15 retina display, erased disk accidentally now can't reinstall os X

As title, I tried to reboot my macbook pro 15 retina display, erased disk accidentally now can't reinstall os X, I restarted my macbook pro and held command+option+R but it didn't work to download os X. Anyone who ccan help me what to do next? Or just bring it to Apple store?
    Thanks

How did you accidentally erase the drive? You can only do that be booting from your Recovery HD or another hard drive.
Are you connected to the Internet? Be sure you can run an Ethernet cable from the computer to your router as this will be much faster than wireless.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

If you can't get dragging to work, just click on Safari from your Applications folder, and it should appear in the dock. Then you can right-click on the icon and PIN it permanently there.

Is it possible to connect a MacBook Pro (prev model 2009, 2.26ghz) to an Apple Thunderbolt display:  will the cable fit?

Sorry it won't work.  It will fit but the laptop can't communicate with it.  Please see many of the other threads here, specifically this one just above your post, that is discussing this exact question.
Apple's specs for the ThunderBolt display state that it needs a ThunderBolt-enabled computer.  Your laptop has a mini-display port connection so it is not compatible with the new displays.

I'm also experiencing problems with the battery. Could you tell me if the new replacement batteries are based on the new techonology (long lasting) or if the replacement battery will be the same as the original one.
Thanks and have a good day.

    Hi CMCSK and thanks.
Maybe it's because of the SMC reset I've done.
My computer wasn't responding to the power button when pressed and used to shut down unexpectedly so I did the SMC reset as per the procedure hereafter.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US
So according to you, the battery seems to work properly and doesn't need to be replaced.
Don't know if it's important but the figures I gave where the one with magsafe connected.

  • Possible to buy a Macbook with Danish keyboard in US Stores?

Now I'm living in Denmark, therefore I don't know whether it's possible to buy a MacBook with Danish keyboard in US.
The price - for let's say the new Retina - in US is $2199 while it costs nearly $3099 in Europe.
The saving is nice. The only problem is the keyboard - so is it possible to configure a MB with another keyboard in the stores?

Hi. I loooked into this myself a few years ago when I was living in Denmark (Charlottenlund) and I was never able to find an acceptable workaround. Apple would refer me to the Danish Apple Store for the part and it ended up being cheaper just to buy the machine in Denmark.
I don't recall if the Danish keyboard is substantially different from other European keyboards. Example, maybe the French keyboard could be added as a CTO, then hand-carried into DK with your carryon.
I also recall some specific difficulties shipping the unit vs. hand-carrying across the Atlantic. Every once in a while something would get opened up and there were penalties and taxes added to the import. Very frustrating.

  • Is it possible to order a macbook pro online (thailand) with a german keyboard??

hi, i am german and live in thailand, i need a new macbook pro soon, but i cant find out if it is possible to get a macbook pro with a german keyboard here in thailand (it is not very helpful to ask one of the reseller, sorry)
    thanks
    alex

The Thai online Apple Store lists only Thai and International English as keyboard options, so you can't order a German keyboard from there. I doubt that the German KB is available from Thai resellers either, unless there is one who serves a primarily foreign clientele, and a large part of that clientele is German.

  • Is it possible to order a macbook air with a swiss keyboard in the US shop?

is it possible to order a macbook air with a french swiss keyboard in the US shop?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It's very difficult to find a Mac with a non-US keyboard at a US store, but Apple sells Macs with different keyboard layouts at the Apple Online Store if you want to > http://store.apple.com/us/mac/family/macbook-air
You can buy a MacBook Air with a French keyboard at the Apple Online Store, but if you want one with a Swiss keyboard, I recommend you to call the Apple Online Store to see if it's possible in the United States (1-800-MY-APPLE)

  • Is it possible to upgrade a macbook 2.16 ghz intel core 2 duo to OSX 10.8.5?

I have an old mackbook, approx 2007 era. Is it possible to upgrade a macbook 2.16 ghz intel core 2 duo to OSX 10.8.5?

You can only upgrade to 10.7 Lion. Lion is still available from Apple. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store. Or go to http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion and purchase it there. The price is $19.99.
You will have to be at 10.6.8 first.
The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. After you’ve installed that then use the 10.6.8 combo updater to finish it off. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    System Requirements for 10.6:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible internet service provider: fees may apply.
Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.
You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.

    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/faq/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-3-g b-memory-limitation-details.html
OWC tests have found that there is a slight speed increase with having two 2gb sticks in rather than one 1gb and one 2gb. Your model is in the gray lines at the bottom of the graph. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Memory_Benchmark/Apple_MacBook/

Is it possible to upgrade my macbook air 13" from 1.86 GHz 128 gb flash and 2GB memory to the 2.13 GHz  256 and 4GB memory, how much would it cost?

About the only thing that "might" be able to do is upgrade the SSD. OWC sells SSD upgrades for that unit. You would have to contact Apple though to verify that no warranty issues would apply when making the upgrade.

You can upgrade from 10.4 straight to 10.6 with no problems as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM. Any program that runs under 10.4 should run under10.6. See this list for third party programs compatibility with 10.6: http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/  You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc....
