Is it possible to record vocals in Logic Pro 9?

I just bought Logic Pro 9 to create music, but I was wondering if it's possible to record vocals over the music. If it is possible, how do I do that?

You've made a good point Miles. A feature they have added in both US and UK versions of cars is a thing called 'pedals'. In the UK it's a little confusing as there are 3 pedals but most people only have 2 feet, but hey!
In UK the middle 'pedal' functions as a slow-downer and the far right pedal functions as a speed-uperer. There are no short cuts to these features. In the US most cars have 2 'pedals' and most people have 2 feet, way more logical. In this case you'd want to press the left with your foot to slow you down.
I have heard that your car can go up hills but you have to configure the 'engine' properly. Once configured and the 'engine' is on, a whole new range of motoring possibilities will open up to you. The speed-uperer pedal has no effect unless the 'engine' is configured and working properly. Stumped me for ages.
Hope this helps you stick with 'car' a bit longer. Although 'boat' has it's attraction, jumping to a different platform is not always the answer.

  • How to record guitar in Logic Pro 8

    Hi,
Well, I´ve got a Mac Mini, Logic Pro 8, Audio Kontrol 1 audio interface, and an acoustic guitar. What I would like to do is to record my guitar songs into Logic Pro 8 and add other sound effects. My problem is, however, that I can´t figure out how to record guitar using Logic Pro 8. In the "Preferences" I choose "Core Audio" as device. I connect my guitar into the audio interface (Audio Kontrol 1) and from the audio interface to my Mac Mini using an USB.
When I start playing, Logic Pro is silent. When I record, there is no sound. What is even more strange is that GarageBand is working perfect! So I guess it has something to do with the settings in Logic Pro 8. So, I ask you guys...do you know have to solve this problem? If so, I would be very grateful!
    Best regards,
    Tor

    Thanks guys!
I will try this as soon as I come home!
I will let you know how it works.

Well, I mentioned the aggregate audio device since I saw this article. Is this possible for me? Why should I do this?

  • How do I burn a recorded track, on logic pro?

How do I burn a recorded track, on logic pro?

    Bad?
I am far from an expert at Logic, but I found making a .wav file or .MP3 file fairly easy.
Using the edit menj, I select all the tracts in my arrnage window.  Having done that I bounce the selected tract to my audio hard drive, having named it.
I can then import that audio file and others into Itunes and then burn a list of compositions onto a CD.
There must be several variations on that process but that one works well for me.

  • Free album download - recorded entirely in Logic Pro 8...

    Hi all
I'm giving away my album as a free download, it's an English take on country, folk, blues and rock.
It was recorded entirely in Logic Pro 8 using a Metric Halo Mobile I/O ULN-2, a Neumann TLM-103 and not a lot else!
    Go to: http://www.stevemccormick.co.uk
    Any comments welcome.

Apologies, I'm not actually from Ohm Force, just an avid fan
Also, I'm more after comments on the YouTube page.
Mega cheers, and sorry for the confusion!

  • Recording Vocals in Logic 8

I am using my Digi003 to record vocals. I have my MIC (SM57) in input 2 of the digi. WHen I create a new audio track and set it to input 2 nothing happens. I have tried to change mics and cables and nothing works. Is there a trick. I should be able to hit record and should hear sound right?
    So frustrating!

Did you select the device in the audio preferences of Logic?
Did you arm the track to record before hitting record?
Not sure if you've done either of these things as you didn't mention them in your post.
    Good Luck!

  • Cant record into to logic pro 9 using samson l1200 live mixer, System/Pref/Audio input tab says selected device has no input control

Hi Im new to this so bare with me..When I connect my Samson l1200 live usb mixer to my Imac 7,1 Intel duo core 3gb ram, osx10.6.8, via usb cable to record vocals/instruments, in System Pref/Audio/Output tab is set to mixer's UsbAudioCodec driver, (Im able to hear playback into headphones via the mixer, and hear the mic when spoken into it but cant record a track into Logic...System/Pref/Audio input tab says selected device has no input control, Ive set the input/output settings in Logic to UsbAudioCodec but still no good...Would it be either the way the mixer is set up? or is this mixer (Samson l1200) not compatible with my particular Imac? I hope I may be able to help as Im only a student trying to record my band thanks

    I perfectly understand your problem.
First... just to make sure, in Logic's preferences /Audio make sure Universal Track Mode IS checked, it should be enabled. (I think it probably is just checking)
Second... if you record a track in a new Logic project and then go to the next track to record an overdubbed guitar part, are both parts recorded on the 2nd track?
What I'm asking is overdubbing working differently for two or three recorded tracks as opposed to overdubbing with an imported track.
What I think is happening is you have the main stereo output being recorded into Logic so if you playback an imported or recorded track from Logic while recording a 2nd track (overdub), both are going to be recorded on the 2nd track.
I took a look at the manual, here's the relevant sections.
34 – SEND – USB input send switch
The USB INPUT switch allows you to select one of
two stereo (or two channel) signal paths to feed the
USB output to send to the connected PC. When the
INPUT switch is in the up position, the USB signal will
feed from the MAIN left right mix. When the INPUT
switch is in the down position, the USB signal will
feed from the AUX 1 and AUX 2 buses which enables
you to create a unique mix to send to the PC.
    35 – RETURN – USB return switch
The USB RETURN switch allows you to select one of
two stereo return paths to receive USB audio from
the connected PC. When the ASSIGN switch is in the
up position, the USB signal will return to the MAIN
mix bus. When the ASSIGN switch is in the down
position, the USB signal will return to the last pair
of stereo channels which enables you to playback a
recorded track in the MAIN mix, and you can use the
channels AUX sends to feed any of the AUX buses.
This will let you hear the USB playback tracks in the
    monitor mixes.
36 – MONITOR – USB headphone enable switch
Press the USB MONITOR switch down if you want
to hear the signal from the USB return in the
    headphones.

  • Is it possible to use AirTunes for Logic Pro?

    Greetings fellow Logic users =)
I finally got Logic Pro and boy am I impressed! However, there's one question I have that I hope shows promise.. Currently, my monitors are connected to the Airport Express so I could listen to music through AirTunes. Since Logic is now Apple owned, I assumed it would have a similar output setting. However, I cannot find anything in the program that would allow me to stream music through AirTunes so I can mix using my monitors wirelessly. Is this a possibility??
    Many thanks =)

AirTunes is a part of iTunes, it's not an audio driver.
But you can use this to stream any audio source to an Airport Express:
    http://rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/mac/
I've used it to beam a Logic mix to a PA to check how mixes will sound, works great.
However, there will be too much latency for mixing, due to the buffering involved. As for live playing instruments - forget it.
Connect up your speakers to a proper audio interface for Logic.

  • Importing Garage Band recorded tracks onto Logic Pro 9 projects...

Hi,  What I am wondering is, can I use the Garage Band on my Mac Air to record tracks and then import them onto Logic Pro 9 projects that I am currently working on?   I have a MacAir which I like for the the portability factor, and then do Logic Pro 9 on my iMac at home.  Will this work for recording tracks of real instruments such as bass guitars or acoustic ones via an UBS interface and my MacAir?   And then be able to import them onto Logic Pro 9...   Im wondering if there will be a big sacrifice of quality or incompatibility issues?

Yes, I use it over WiFi and while it may not be as fast as manual copying via an external disk or thumbdrive (depending on the speed of your WiFi and the size of the fles involved), it can be a lot more convenient... and it is very simple to achieve.
    To answer your other question
There are two types of compression.. Lossless and lossy....
If you simply zip up your projects before sending you won't lose any quality.. as doing so doesn't affect the quality of any samples.. (ie this would be lossless compression)

  • Is it Possible to Disable Screensets in Logic Pro 8?

One of the disconcerting things about working with Logic Pro 8 is that, if you are trying to entire a number--perhaps in a note list--and you don't have the right field selected, Logic reacts as if you're trying to change Screensets.
I'd like to be able to do a lot of numerical entry without accidentally changing Screensets.
Is it possible to disable the number--screenset correspondence altogether?
I try to delete the Screensets, but Logic keeps making them.
I'd like to be able to hit the numerical keys, and have nothing happen if I'm in the wrong box.
    Possible? Yes? No?

It doesn't delete it if I hit delete in the Screenset window.
I figure you must mean the Key Commands window. There are a bunch of commands called Recall Screenset 1 etc. So you can delete the assigned keystroke for all of these except one (I guess Recall Screenset 1)? That's strange. Here it works fine. I can delete all of the assigned keystrokes for all of the Recall Screenset key commands.
It might be a L8 vs. L9 thing. Or there might be a problem with your preferences file. You could try a fresh one. (If you want to do that and don't know how, just ask.)
Or maybe the easiest thing is this. Instead of trying to delete that last assigned keystroke, why not just change it? You can change it to any keystroke that's currently unassigned, and that you don't expect to need for some other purpose, and that you don't expect to press by accident. An easy choice would be, say, option-1. I know that by default this keystroke is unassigned. And someday you might actually want to invoke the Recall Screenset 1 command, and option-1 would be a logical way to do that. (And you could also assign option-2 to Recall Screenset 2, and so on.)
Does that make sense? Let us know how it works out.
Keep in mind that the result is not exactly that the keystroke (say, 1) will be entirely ignored. The screen will flash. But probably this is OK with you, and certainly better than what happens now.
By the way, I think Pianoteq is great.

  • Recording Kontakt through Logic Pro x?

I want to record Kontakt 5 instruments through Logic Pro X, but the Setting and Instrument buttons are not showing in the Inspector. In all the tutorials that I have seen, you click the Instrument button in the Inspector and select Kontakt as you instrument. Is there a setting in Logic to show these buttons? I am using Kontakt 5 Player right now, do I have to have the full version for it to work? I used to do this with Garageband all the time. And also, I am a hardcore noob, so simple terms are much appreciated!!

    Hi
The Loopback plugin is only available in Mainstage, & not within Logic.

  • Recording VDrums into Logic Pro

Hi. I'm trying to record numerous takes from my VDrums into Logic using Cycle record. I've checked the 'Auto mute in cycle record' and 'Auto create new tracks in cycle record' boxes. All the takes are then recorded fine (I can see the information) with a new track for each one, but I can only listen back to the last take I did. All tracks are unmuted but I can only hear the final take. What's going on, it's doing my head in!!
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Hi there are two ways to mute .. one is the whole
track (ie the blue M light) and the other is the
region (ie segement of midi on a track) - to mute
this you press m (assuming you have not re-mapped
this key). When a cycle record happens a new track is
created for each cycle and only the regions are
muted. The last one recorded is not muted.. So in
this case the "M" buttons on the tracks are should
    all be left alone.
There is also a mute tool in the Toolbox - that
allows you to click on a region and toggle its
    mutedness (oh a new word!)..
Cheers Ian! I obviously failed to recognise the differences between track muting and region muting!

  • Hot to record DM10 with Logic Pro ?

So, I have a DM10 an want to record a track with it. I plugged it with a Y cable, then when I record it by choosing Stereo Input (1-2 canals), the sound is balanced on the right only. What's the problem ? I have to say that it is directly plugged from the drum to my MacBook. Does the problem come from here ?

    Mickaelpopo wrote:
Yes, thank you ! This worked. Unfortunately, this helped me half… Now the sound is centered, but my problem now is that there's no "spread" of the pieces of the kit. I mean it's like if it was in mono. :\ I'd like the cymbals and the drums have a spacial repartition, like in surround audio. I recall I have a DM10 Studio Kit Module. I think it's possible to do what I want to do with.
Just for information, what does it change that Universal Track Mode is selected or not ? (If you have the time for it, and whether you can explain it ^^)
Actually, this is a Mistake on my part, Universal Track Mode should be selected! I have no idea what I was thinking... the coffee hadn't kicked in yet.
For now, De-Select  Independent Monitoring Level.
Ok, back to the original problem....
Post a screen shot of your mixer when the problem is occuring.

"When I try to record in some audio and press "R" it chnages to the letter "P" and no audio is coming through ?!?"

This is because you have Punch on the fly enabled under Options (top menu)>Audio>Punch on the Fly.... signified by the letter P instead of the letter R
