Is it possible to remap keyboard?

I'd like to turn capslock into ctrl, mainly for my bluetooth keyboard when using an ssh app.

No.
Why not use the ctrl key as a ctrl key? That's what I do on my Bluetooth keyboard.

  • International keyboard with Norwegian layout - possible to remap some keys?

Hey, I have a MBP OS X 10.6.8 with international keyboard that I have selected a Norwegian layout on, since I need the special characters we have in our language (æ, ø and å).
My question is - is it possible to remap just SOME keys/characters while in this configuration?
The keys I need to remap are:
< to ` (so I can do Command-` in programs to change windows)
´ to ' (because I use the standard apostrophe)
Any way to do this in OS X, or maybe with other software? Thanks for any help!

    Some possible options:
+Use system preferences/language & text/text/symbol and text substitution to create shortcuts
+Use Ukelele to create a custom keyboard layout
    http://scripts.sil.org/ukelele
+Use the US layout and type your special characters using the built-in alt key shortcuts

Note:  Standard apostrophe is alt + @ on the Norwegian layout (alt + \ if keys are printed for US layout).

  • Difficulty remapping keyboard shortcuts on OSX

Pretty obscure problem here. I am trying to use the little-known OSX built-in method of remapping keyboard shortcuts (System Preferences>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts>Application Shortcuts) to customize things, specifically to add a shortcut to access the add-ons menu. I did this a few weeks ago and I see my shortcut next to the menu item, but triggering the shortcut never opens it up. I see the Tools menu flash, but nothing ever really happens.
As far as I know, the problem isn't exclusive to the Add-ons item. I have also noticed this same problem with Thunderbird. It worked with the old Unsanity Haxie, Menu Master, but this is not compatible with 10.6. (I am running 10.6.4)
I'm guessing that this is some kind of underlying problem with the Mac version of both products. Any help or referral to where I can report this is appreciated.

I'm getting this problem with the PasswordMaker plugin. I had the problem before attempting to remap keys. I remapped keys with the suggested keyconfig extension in an attempt to solve the problem, but no dice.
    FF version 3.6.3
    OSX version 10.6.6
Other items in the Tools menu work. PasswordMaker fails with the problem described above:
'but triggering the shortcut never opens it up. I see the Tools menu flash, but nothing ever really happens. '
The extension works on all other OSes I have tried (Win XP, Win 7 and Linux Ubuntu.).
I've seen this behaviour before when a modal task in Photoshop (text editing) was blocking shortcuts.
    Any ideas?

I am not sure what you mean, so I can't provide a definitive answer.
I assume that you want the sideNav within the left graphic, but not indented, is that correct?Yes, correct.
The graphic and indentation are dictated by the BLAF standard. I am curious why you want something different. We want to know if it is possible to adjust the oracle BLAF to our company BLAF. Is this possible? May be in the Future?
    Thanx,

  • Possible to remap numeric keyboard to work on Macbook keyboard?

    Hi everyone,
I'm just beginning to learn After Effects, and the most useful key in that program in my opinion is clicking the 0 on the numeric keypad to render a RAM preview. However, the Macbook Aluminum doesn't have an inset numeric keypad!
Does anyone know a workaround to be able to use the numeric keys? I'd really like to for example be able to hit Fn-0 and have that count as a 0 on a numeric keypad.

Thanks for that, but I was looking more for a program, some Terminal code, or a workaround that someone might know that would allow me to use these shortcuts on the keyboard I have now.

  • Possible to reassign keyboard's punctuation keys?

I am not referring to reassigning function keys, or to converting PC keyboards to OS X. I am asking if it is possible to reassign any key to any ASCII character.
What I want to do is make my semi-colon key and my apostrophe key swap duties. Is this possible? If so, how so?
If so, how does one remove and reattach the plastic key itself on a MBP?
    Thank you for your help.

Ukelele can create and edit almost any kind of keyboard layout that is in the appropriate
XML format. You can modify the keyboard layout to produce any Unicode character,
or even short strings of Unicode characters.
    What Ukelele can’t do
Ukelele is not intended for remapping modifier keys. For example, it is not intended
for swapping the command and option keys. Mac OS X 10.4 introduced some flexibility in
rearranging the modifier keys. Otherwise, other software, such as DoubleCommand (http://
doublecommand.sourceforge.net/), can do this and more.
Ukelele cannot turn a modifier key into a non-modifier key or vice versa. A modifier
key is one of shift, option, control, command, caps lock and fn. Again, DoubleCommand can
do some of this, such as turning the Enter key into a command key.
The fn key is not a modifier in the same sense that the shift key is. The fn key really
acts as a way for a notebook keyboard (as in PowerBook, iBook or MacBook) to simulate a
full-sized keyboard with a separate row of function keys (F-keys, F1–F15 or F16, or even F19)
and a numeric keypad. This effectively limits the fn key to working with only a subset of the
    keys on the keyboard.
There are some keys which perform hardware functions such as controlling sound volume
or display brightness. Ukelele cannot change these functions.
There are some limitations imposed by Apple:
Mapping the arrow keys to something else, or other keys to arrow keys, is problematic.
It will work in some applications, but not others.
Control key combinations often do not work as desired. Often, control key combinations
are simply ignored, and sometimes they do something unexpected. There are some ways
around some, if not all, of the limitations, but these are not for the faint of heart!
Input methods, such as Chinese, Japanese or Korean, will not work with modified keyboard
    layouts.

  • How to remap keyboard characters?

I'd like to remap my Russian phonetic keyboard layout to match what this guy did for the Mac: (scroll down to Usage to see the layout that I'm wanting):
    http://www.users.bigpond.com/sphynx1/RussianPhonetic/
Does anyone know what files I can edit to get these results?

I'd suggest xmodmap (1) in X; for the Linux Console, you can probably use some dumpkeys- (1) & loadkeys- (1) -fu to do what you want.

  • E71: how to remap keyboard keys

    Hi!
I was wondering whether there is a way to remap the keys on the qwerty keyboard on E71. I basically want a different layout. Is there any system utility I could use, buy, etc.?
The reason I want this is because a standard native Russian keyboard ("jetsukeng" as it is called) is something I am not used to. I prefer a phonetic keyboard sometimes called "yawerty", so I'd like to use it on E71.
    Thanks in advance,

Maybe something like Magic Key? http://bit.ly/grQHq
My experience with Magic Key has been pretty good, on my E71, although I'm not remapping a whole lot of keys. I remap a few keys, so they function differently, depending on which application is active.

  • How to remap keyboard - Looking to switch the "fn" and "control" buttons?

Hi I was looking for a way to switch the function and control on the bottom left side of the keyboard on my macbook pro laptop. I am used to the control button being the button that is furthest to the left and its just really throwing me off having the fn key all the way to the left. If anyone knows how to remap these keys, I would really appreciate the help.
    Thank you.

Firefox 4.0 has a combined Reload and Stop and Go button that appears at the right end of the location bar.
To restore the Firefox 3 appearance you can use these steps:
    * Open the "View > Toolbars > Customize" window to move the Stop and Reload button out of the location bar.
    * Move the Reload and Stop buttons to their previous position at the left side of the location bar.
    * Set the order to "Reload - Stop" to get a combined "Reload/Stop" button.
    * Set the order to "Stop - Reload" or separate them otherwise to get two distinct buttons.

  • Higher resolution possible with capslock keyboard as midi contoller?

I'm wondering if it's possible to use the capslock keyboard in logic as a midi controller with higher precision than i seem to be getting. For example, assigning the capslock keyboard to control the tune knob in the exs24 goes from 0 > +/- 24 in 1 press of a button. I want it to go, say, 1 at a time.
I'm thinking this may be possible with the transformer, but since i've just decided to start learning the transformer i didn't want to begin trying to do a task that isn't possible in the first place. So i'm wondering is it possible?
    Logic 9

Thanks for replying. Sorry about late response i actually didn't think anyone had answered after a few days so just left it and forgot about it.
I was thinking maybe it was possible to route the pitch or velocity of the midi message somewhere else to only move in smaller increments on a controller, i.e. caps keyboard. Aye, knobs would be easier, but i don't have any yet as i only just justified the expense on a mac and logic... wait a short while first...
I've decided to leave the transformer alone for now anyway as it's a bit too technical for time being and i should learn more basic stuff first.

  • Remapping keyboard keys on the Vista side...

No problems with my Vista x32 install on BootCamp (via Leopard). But as an old PC person who's switched to Apple hardware (will get to Leopard down the road), I'd like to remap a few of the keys. Specifically, would be nice to swap the two Apple & ENTER keys to the right of the spacebar back to ALT & CTRL that we're used to on the PC side. Anyone found a good utility that lets you map specific keys?
I know this won't be an "Apple" question but thinking someone here might be in the same boat as me. I've seen some that replace the BootCamp keyboard drivers (like the one that adds fan controls), but that's not what I'm looking for. I just want to remap one or two keys, not replace the entire existing map.
    TIA

To reule out  software problem try:
    - A reset. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
If you still have the problem thismn it would appear to be due to a hadware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Requiring Right Alt, remapping keyboard does not work

I require the Right Alt button in a game. I can't change the settings of the game cause it's a lazy port from the playstation.
I've tried remapping the keyboard with the program which rewrites the registry, it works when I use notepad or office, but in the game itself, it doesn't.
I also know that normally, ctrl + option key is the equivalent of right alt. But also no success
    Any workarounds?

  • PC keyboard on a Mac, how to remap keyboard?

    Greetings, sorry my poor english.
I'm using a Genius KB-19e USB keyboard with my new Mac Mini and Mac OS X 10.4.7
Some of the keys are 'wrong' and I would like to know a way of to 'remap' the keys. The 'wrong' are mostly the special 'accent' keys like ´ `º * + » etc.
    Thank you.

The ability is there, no doubt about that. The question is how you get there.
I routinely cycle through several keyboard layouts, including two custom layouts I have been using for 20 years.
I created them eons ago in MackKeymeleon. It is amazing that they work flawlessly in all versions of OS X by the simple addition of an ".rsrc" extension.
If you don't find what you need among the predefined keyboard layouts offered in International, you could make your own. I understand it's very easy to do nowadays, though I can't tell you how because I haven't had a need to do it recently.
Maybe a forum or Google search would turn up what you need.

  • Lightroom 2.x - Remapping Keyboard Shotcuts & Modifiers (Mac)

A short tutorial demonstrating how Lightroom keyboard shortcuts can be remapped using the Keyboard and Mouse panel in OS X 10.4 and 10.5 System Preferences.
The tutorial also includes details on some of Lightroom's less obvious shortcuts and modifier key combinations
    Link to tutorial

Just wanted to clarify. You can quickly change the settings for they way the "F Keys" are used.
Got to System Settings-->Keyboard & Mouse.
Make sure the keyboard sub-tab is selected and check:
"Use the F1-F12 keys to control software features
When this option is selected, press the Fn key to use the F1-F12 keys to control hardware features."
The only downside is then you have to use the function key to change the volume. All and all, it's still a better choice for me.
    good luck
