Is it Possible to Remove a Library from iTunes 12?
I am trying to fix a synching issue in which, long story short, iTunes 12, without my knowledge, forced a move of my Books library from My Documents folder to the iTunes Media folder, and now the synching of my books is all f***ed up. So I would like to try remove all book fodlers from the iTunes library and re-establish the Books library to where I originally had it.
I guess the two main questions I have are:
- I know how to add a folder to the library, but is it even possible to remove a folder from the library?
- If I could do this, would what I am trying to accomplish even work?
There are a few ways. Perhaps the simplest for you, since you only want to eliminate the first minute, is to use the Cycle Region. Press C on your keyboard (or the circular arrows button in the Transport controls) and you'll see a yellow bar appear at the top of the Timeline. You can move and resize it over the portion of the song you want to export. (Try zooming in to get it to an exact spot.) Then you use the Share menu to export the song while the Cycle Region is visible and only that portion will get exported.
Alternately, you can highlight the portion you want to delete in the Track Editor and hit Delete/Backspace. Then you'd have to move the remaining region to the beginning of the Timeline and then move the End Of Song Marker to the end before you export.
Depending on what you're going to use the song for, you can export at full (aiff) quality, or compress to mp3.

Upgrading to 7.5 Completely Removed My Library From ITunes
I wanted to buy a new albumn last night on Itunes and was prompted by the Itunes store saying I was required to upgrade to 7.5 in order to order this albumn (apparently it wouldn't play otherwise?). Thinking I was safe, I said ok and did so.
I have 2 Ipods on this computer, each linked to its own separate windows account on my computer, and have never had issues in the past having 2 versions of iTunes with separate libraries, etc.
Now, after performing this upgrade, only 1 of my Ipods appear to have a library when I open up that window account's iTunes. So 1 Ipod/iTunes library is ok - the other not so much. While iTunes opens up for the 2nd one, it shows a completely blank library, no playlists, etc. I've had this iPod, playlists, etc, for years now, and if I've lost them and have to create new ones and/or add all my songs (3000+) back onto this iPod, I'm going to flip - this is absolutely ridiculous -i'm told I have to update my software to buy new music and now i've lost years worth of music and playlist management all because of this 'required' update.iTunes uses 2 different library files: iTunes Library.itl is the actual database file that stores where the songs are on your computer and playlist/playcount info. There is also a file called iTunes Music Library.xml which has a lot of the same info, including song location and playlist info; you may be able to restore from this .xml file since the .itl file obviously got messed up in the upgrade.
I'm not sure this will work because whenever you close iTunes it saves the library, so this file may already be overwritten. In iTunes, go to File>Import; when the window opens, you should be in the My Music>iTunes folder; select the 'iTunes Music Library' file - this is the .xml file, not the 'iTunes Library.itl' file. Importing this way does take a really long time, but I have successfully restored my library including playlists this way.
Another option is searching for any .itl files on your computer - there might be an older .itl file you could restore to. You can either try searching your computer or open My Music>iTunes>Previous iTunes Libraries and see if there's an old library in there. Will probably be named 'iTunes Library 2007-11-07' or something similar - it will be dated whenever the last time you updated before this was.
You have 2 choices to open this file - the first is more permanent and faster in my opinion.
1. Quit iTunes and then copy the old library file from the 'Previous iTunes Libraries' folder back into the iTunes folder in your My Music folder. Then rename this file 'iTunes Library.itl' - you want to replace the current 'iTunes Library' file which is blank. Then try opening iTunes again.
2. Quit iTunes. Hold down the shift key and restart iTunes from the Start menu - not from the desktop icon - and keep holding the shift key down while it opens. When iTunes opens you should see a little window that asks if you want to create a new library or choose a new library - select choose library and you should be able to navigate to where this old library is and open it from there.

In the past it was possible to delete songs/tones from iTunes but this no longer seems to be the case. Is it possible to delete songs or tones if they are not duplicated - I just no longer want them in my library?

You can move your iTunes library.. Apple have explicit instructions to do it. If the library is moved to the TC and accessed over wireless, the efficiency of the whole system will drop dramatically..
A file you download goes.. Modem---TC--Laptop--Back to TC--Store on disk. Double looping the wireless slows it dramatically..

This is asked several times a day.. obviously people are struggling with their latest SSD being too small.
The TC is not suitable for network file server.. but many people having no choice press it into service as such.
It cannot be partitioned. It was and is and ever shall be a backup device for Time Machine.
Major issues.
1. No backup.. no way Time Machine can backup a network drive. No place to backup to.. So all your files will be at risk. And you will need to buy a third party like CCC to do backup.
2. The TC cannot be partitioned and mixing TM backups and data is not great.
3. The drive is slow to spin up and quick to spin down.. there is no controls.
4. iPhoto in particular can easily corrupt its entire library with wireless networking causing a disconnection to one photo. Even if you do this;;; do not move your photo library... you have been warned!!
5. iTunes will constantly lose connection to the library. The disk is too slow to respond.. itunes on the computer will constantly spit out errors. Even in the midst of streaming the TC can spin down the disk due to caching.
6. Do not use any live files on the TC no matter what else you do.. if you edit files in whatever program the file must be on the local hard disk.
7. The only suitable location for most libraries is a computer. You can plug in an external hard disk.

You can't put films into the cloud, whether they will show for redownloading (e.g. via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage) depends upon what country that you are in (they can't be redownloaded in all countries), whether you've changed countries since buying them (they won't show if you have), and if the rights-holder keeps them in your country's store (any item could be removed from the store at any time) - rather than relying on being able to redownload them you should copy them (and the reset of your iTunes library) to a backup drive (preferably drives) so that you have your own copy. By default your iTunes library is stored under : /Users/username/Music/iTunes

If you want to remove a credit/debit card from your account then on your computer's iTunes you should be able to edit your payment info by going into the Store > View Account menu option and logging into your account, and on your account's details page there should be a payment link. If you are doing it on your iOS device then tap on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and tap on 'View Apple ID' on the popup and log into your account - that should also give you a payments link on your account's page.

If you want to unassociate your iPad from the computer, As far as I know - you still have to log into your account on the computer and remove the device from iTunes in there. Yoy cant do it on the iPad.
Launch iTunes, and go to Store>view my account. Enter your Apple ID and your password. Go to iTunes in the cloud. There should be something that says Associated Devices, click on that and you can remove the iPad.

How can I remove a podcast from iTunes if iTunes is locked up.
I added a password protected podcast and iTunes locks up on the authentication dialog. Spinning beachball... only thing I can do is force quit.
Earlier solution was to go in and manually disable podcasts with Xcode. but then i can't play any of my podcasts.
The recent itunes update fixed the problem, sort of. it allowed me to use itunes normally again. But, I tried to subscribe to the podcast agin and... yup, same thing.
