Is it possible to replace Preview v5.5 (Lion) with Preview v5.0 (Snow Leopard)?

I am finding certain 'improvements' in Preview v5.5 quite irritating and pointless ('save a version', not asking to save a file, basically stuff that was well implemented in v5.0). If it ain't broke, don't frickin fix it, Apple! What's the point of that 'save a version' menu option?
Any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The main error in this position is thinking ANY sized SSD can be "storage"
Any Macbook SSD should be idealized as a working platform computer system, containing all your applications, documents, and weekly-use necessary files; and all media files such as ‘big-data’ (music/PDF collections/video/pictures), unless directly needed in the near future, should be kept off the computer and on external storage USB or likewise bare hard drives.
You cant do what you want without removing the internal SSD
Officially, it is not possible for an end user to upgrade the storage in any Retina Display MacBook Pro model after purchase

  • Is it possible to uninstall mountain lion and go back to snow leopard

Have an mid-2009 macbook pro and since installing Mountain Lion it has become very slow on startup, shutdown and everything inbetween including random crashes of software. Is is possible to go back to Snow Leopard ?
    Thanks

Also you should look at this User tip as well, because your machine is a bit dated and likely needs a new boot drive + more RAM and performance tweaks for maximum Snow Leopard performance.
    For Snow Leopard Speed Freaks
Snow Leopard is extremely fast on my Early 2011 machine here, it's because it's a 32 bit operating system that can address up to 16GB of RAM (or more)
OS X Lions are 64 bit operating systems so they act more like trucks and can move better in bulk.
Snow Leopard is like a small race car.

  • Have a MacBook Pro running Lion and an IMac running Snow Leopard. Want to Back up both images and restore on opposite machine. Essentially swapping images between hard drives. Is this possible and any "gotcha's" to look for? Thanks

Have a MacBook Pro running Lion (10.7.9) and an IMac running Snow Leopard (10.6.8). Want to Back up both images and restore on opposite machines. Essentially swapping images between hard drives. Is this possible and any "gotcha's" to look for? Thanks

If the MBP came with Lion, it most likely won't boot with SL. Easiest thing to do is create a bootable backup/clone of each to an ext HD, partitioned to hold each on a separate volume, ensure that the original machines can boot with their respective clones, and finally, try booting the other machine with the other clone. Images are useless since you can't boot with them to test them out.

  • Replaced faulty hard drive now can't boot from Snow Leopard.

    Hi there,
As it says I replaced my internal WD 250gb drive in my late 2006 2.16ghz imac . I followed the tutorials on the net to the tee yet upon trying to boot from Snow Leopard after firing it back up all I get is the Apple logo and the timer . I've tried holding C to no avail . I've held Alt to select the OSX disc yet it still won't boot to get me to Disc Utility . I've even put the old hard drive back in . When I hold Alt on start up it shows the drive and the disc but will boot from neither when selected . I've tried to get the Snow Leopard disc to eject so I can try my originals but it won't even do that . I'm convinced I haven't damaged anything but I'm at my wits end ! Does anybody have any ideas how to get the Leopard disc out so I can at least try from my originals ? The drive I've installed is compatible it's a 1tb WD . I also triple checked all the connections and they all seam sound . Really appreciate your help lads as I wanted to give the iMac to my daughter when we get a new one .

You will first need to prep the new drive using Disk Utility on the original 10.4 Disc or Retail upgrade 10.6 DVD. It needs to be Partition GUID Partition Table and Format it Mac OS Extented (Journaled) before you can install and run OS X on it.
    1. Boot from your SL install DVD or Bootable Clone and open Disk Utility.
    2. Highlight the new HD in the list of drives and select the Partition tab.
    3. Under Volume Scheme select 1 Partition and click on the Options... button.
    4. Select GUID Partition Table in the drop down window and click OK.
    5. Set the Format to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and click the Apply button.
    6. Once thats done, then you can do a clean Install, Restore from TM or a Bootable Clone.

  • Possible to replace non-backlit keyboard with backlit one?

I have a w530 without the backlit keyboard, can I get a backlit keyboard and switch it over? Is the backlight integrated with the keybaord itself?

    Dear Customer,
Welcome and Thank you for posting your query on HP Support Forum
It looks like you are trying to replace the notebook keyboard with a backlit keyboard if its possible
We will surely assist you with this issue
As far as I know its only the top end models have that premium backlit feature. This is a Envy notebook feature and
we cant have the same backlit keyboard on a entry level notebook. You should also know that Notebooks are not open architecture like desktops, we cannot mix and match parts just as they can with the desktop PC environment.
We need to check if backlit keyboard feature is listed for your notebook in the service and maintenance guide or not.
If it is listed there is a chance that you can go for it. Its just that the motherboard has to have the ZIF connector for the ribbon cable that provides power to the backlight.
Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again

  • Is it possible to replace an 2011 iMac LCD with one from an HP Z1 desktop?

The left side of my LCD screen is not receiving power, a problem that was addressed in one of the other threads, however I was unable to fix it and now need to replace the LCD completely. The HP Z1 all in one computers uses the same screen as the iMac so I'm thinking of buying this one here on ebay, http://www.ebay.com/itm/301417061741?_trksid=p2059210.m2750.l2649&ssPageName=STR K%3AMEBIDX%3AIT, does anyone know if it'll be compatible with the iMac? Thank you for your input

You should talk to your Apple Store.  The newest iMacs are very difficult, if not impossible, for the average person to repair.   The glass on previous iMacs could be replaced DIY but the new slimmer version is supposed to be specially glued together.

  • Possible to replace a div's scrollbar with custom graphics?

A blog-like (but not quite blog) site I'm working on requires
    a scrollable
DIV to display past entries, in an unordered list fashion,
    one entry per
    line.
The site's layout is dark (at the client's request), meaning
    that the
scrollbar for the table of contents sticks out like a sore
    thumb on
everything but IE (which allows us to color said scrollbar).
Since there's no way of coloring the scrollbar on Firefox or
    Safari, are
there widgets of any kind that will allow me to "draw" my own
    scrollbar?
This sounds like something PVII would tackle.
The div is currently absolutely-positioned, with overflow-y
    on auto and
overflow-x hidden. But like I said, that white scrollbar is
    just an eyesore
    on this layout.

Our thing is to use modern scripting to present a custom
    scrolling solution
that is accessible using mouse or keyboard, and that presents
    all content
normally when script is not enabled. To make it look like all
    OSs would not
be possible as it would require us to detect the OS
    (possible) and the
visual theme/skin being used (not possible). The other thing
    to keep in mind
is that our widgets are meant to be interface elements in the
    scope of a
larger plan - not merely to scroll basic content. Consider
    things like news
feeds, thumbnials, etc. While you can use a scripted scroller
    to scroll main
content it is usually not advisable.
That said, using overflow: auto would allow OS controls
    (except of course,
    in Safari Windows).

    default. I'm guessing

Not easy since you don't know what the user's normal
    scrollbar controls look
like. You can only be sure of duplicating your normal
    scrollbars in a darker
    shade :-)

  • Is it possible to replace w541s fullHD display panel with a 3k panel

Hi, I just received a W541 (20EG000D++)  from lenovo as a replacement to my old machine that i had several issues with. However they could only offer me a machine with a fullhd panel as a replacement since my old machine ha fullhd. As I booted up the machine I noticed that the fullHD panel used in it is lit from the bottom and has a very narrow vertical field of view. Since I mainly work with creative cloud software environment I can not work with this kind of display so the only option is to upgrade it now.   So the question is can i just buy the 3k panasonic display that is used in another w541 setup and install it, will it work? i have tried googleing this and tend to find very little info on this matter...

I am running an ATI Radeon Mobility X300. I am currently running a 23" Apple Cinema Display at 1600x200, so I know it can handle a higher resolution than you stated. I have called many people about this (even Dell, to get their take on how to run their 30"), and basically, unless someone comes out with a PCMCIA card that is dual link DVI, you can't run it. I expect that villagetronic will come out with one eventually.

  • Is it possible to replace an existing published folio with a new one?

    Hello everyone,
We created a folio with the wrong intention (landscape and portrait). I have now recreated the folio with the proper intention (landscape only) and have give the folio the same: name, dimensions, publication date and product id as the original. However when I publish the new folio it appears as a new download in addition to the original one we had created. Should it not appear as an update to the existing one? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You'll need to clarify what you mean by 'ebook', and how it's different to the HTML pages of your existing website...

    Go to Solution.

Lenovo restricts the wireless cards to Lenovo branded units certified to work with the machine. This is done through a whitelist in the system BIOS. I recently disassembled the latest (version 3.14-1.06) T500/W500 BIOS and found the following whitelist table. This is raw big endian hex appended with what I found by searching the device ID's. Redundant entries are for varying vendor IDs.

Your T400 is from the same lineup and probably has the same list. Remember, you'll need to purchase a Lenovo branded unit.

  • Is it possible to use Snow Leopard on Mountain Lion iMac with Virtualbox ?

I've been lucky recently, with people giving the perfect solutions for me so I try again.
But, this one is a tough one: How to run a virtual Snow Leopard on a new iMac ?
I got a 2013 iMac with Mountain Lion (10.8.5 now) so,  totally incompatible with Snow Leopard. I need SL anyway.
Give up all you old applications and buy new ones is not acceptable. First, this is not my way of thinking and, second, some cannot be replaced.
Many posts say that you can use Snow Leopard with VirtualBox but I could not find anywhere the "how to" (in this particular configuration).
For instance, I followed these 2 protocols, almost similar:
    http://www.maketecheasier.com/install-mac-os-x-snow-leopard-in-virtualbox-on-win dows/
    http://www.macbreaker.com/2012/02/snow-leopard-virtualbox.html
but they use Windows as host system and something is not working (for me) with Mountain Lion.
I made many attempts, with VirtualBox 4.2.18, using pretty much everything: Snow Leopard DVD, SL Server DVD, .dmg of both. I've also got Combo 10.6.8 updates for both (but I'm not sure if it can be used before installing). With another MacBook, I managed to install a SLS on external hard drive and update to 10.6.8. Was unable to use it anyway.
Inevitably, I ended up with the message:
"FATAL: No bootable medium found! System halted."
I have no idea of what support to use and even, probably  important, if it should be set on Primary or Secondary Master ? (in Settings / Storage)
Is it possible at all ???
Would it work better with VMware Fusion ? Anybody successful ?
    Help
    Thanx

How to install and run OS 10.6 Snow Leopard on a virtual machine on top of OS 10.7 Lion:
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/11/17/install-run-mac-os-x-10-6-snow-leopard-in-virtual -machine-on-lion/
    From kappy:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc.  Insert the disc into the
optical drive and restart the computer.  After the chime press and hold down the
"C" key.  Release the key when you see a small spinning gear appear below the
             dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, set the format type to Mac
OS Extended (Journaled, if supported), then click on the Partition button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4.  When the installation has completed your computer will require a restart after
which you will be running a fresh install of OS X.  You can now begin the update
process by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to
             bring your installation current.
First you will have to prep your new SSD:
    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.

  • Is it possible to downgrade an Early 2011 15" MBP to Snow Leopard?

Is it possible to downgrade an Early 2011 15" MBP (MacBookPro8,2) to Snow Leopard?
The laptop shipped with Lion, and I don't recall whether this model ever even shipped with Snow Leopard.  I figure if it did ship with snow leopard then there is at least a chance that I'd be able to downgrade.  Though, of course, I don't have the disk.
I will check with the apple store guys at some point, but I thought I'd ask here.
    Austin

If you had bought the same model MBP a few weeks earlier you could have received two software licenses - Snow Leopard as shipped, and also a free upgrade to Lion. That being the case, why not call AppleCare  and see if they will "retroactively" give you the same capability by sending you the grey-labeled machine-specific Snow Leopard install disc that originally shipped with your model MBP before it started shipping with Lion.
In this thread the OP requested a Snow Leopard disc for a new iMac that shipped with Lion, and reported the following:
Called Apple and they first said I coul not install SL, a day latter and I received a call from the manager saying that I had gotten the wrong information, so yes, I can install SL. They sending me the grey disk free of charge.
Apple usually charges a nominal fee for replacing a "lost" grey-labeled Install disc. Of course in your situation you are not actually "entitled"  to any disc at all, and the particular person at Apple that you speak with may not be as accommodating. But it can't hurt to ask.
