Is it possible to restore an iPhone backup from Windows 7 in Macbook Pro? How?

I losy my 1st gen iPhone and the Windows 7 laptop it was synchronized to. I have a full backup of the laptop on an external drive. I can see my iPhone backup files on my external drive.
Now I got the iPhone 4S and Macbook Pro. I was hoping to use my old backup so that I can retrieve back my Contacts, Messages and Notes.
Does anybody have an idea?

Yes, but the reverse won’t work.

  • HT1766 How long should it take to restore new iPhone backup from iCloud?

How long should it take to restore new 4s iPhone backup from iCloud?

That depends mostly on your Internet connection download speed, and how much data you have on the phone. It could take anything from a few minutes to several days. There is no "one size fits all" answer.

  • Can I restore an iPhone backup from a Mac in a Windows PC?

I have copied the files from Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup from my Mac to a USB stick and I have to use these backup files on a Windows PC.
Will these files from an iTunes for Mac work on an iTunes for Windows?
    Thanks,
    Rafael

You can restore the backups to a device running the same or a newer iOS version, but not an older one. For example, if a backup was made from iOS 8.2, it can be restored to a device running 8.2 or 8.3, but not 8.1.3 or earlier.

  • Iphone backup location on new macbook pro

I re installed my MacBook Pro and wiped all data/information from the hard drive.
I backed up everything, including my iphone backups to add to itunes, but the mobilesync folder isn't there.
Can anyone help me find the location of the folder? (I'm using Lion)

I've actually replaced my pro with the new 13" air.  I found that I could restore the phone with the icloud backup via the phone instead of the computer.  this was great, however now I cant sync my iphone with the new macbook air without erasing all on the iphone
I tried moving my preferences from my imac to the new air, along with the mobilesync backups - it worked for my ipad and I can sync that with no issues.  However once again the iphone wont do it.
Is there a way of restoring the phone to sync with this computer and then restore the backup so I get all my messages - however would this render it not able to sync with my air again?
    Appreciate any comments

  • How do I restore a Time Machine backup from a newer MacBook Pro to an older MacBook Pro?

My MacBook Pro is in the shop and am using my older MacBook Pro in the meantime. I want to restore my older computer with the lastest backup from my newer computer, but I'm not able to see/access the backups from my newer computer - I can only see the backups from my old computer. Any suggestions?

That is probably due to the older computer being too old.
You can do a manual restore to a USB drive plugged into the computer. Then select the files you want.
    See pondini Q14-17 on restore.
    http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
    Particularly 16 and 17.
You tend to migrate from older to newer computer and OS.. and it is not going to work the other way around.

  • Restore Time Machine backup on 2nd hand Macbook Pro

Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but I'm not entirely sure how time machine works.
I just sold my Macbook Pro 5,1 and bought a second hand Macbook Pro 9,2.
My MBP 5,1 was on the latest version of OS X Mavericks and the MBP 9,2 is on OS X 10.7
I'm currently updating the MBP 9,2 to OS X Yosemite, but I'm wondering how the Time Machine migration will work. Will it just add files and programs over the current installation? Or will it also replace settings, such as admin password etc. ?
My main question is if I should do a factory reset before migrating, so I can set up my Admin password and Apple ID, or if I should simply migrate over the current installation?
I have a CCC backup as well as a Time Machine backup, so in case something goes wrong I can always boot from that.
NOTE: The second hand Macbook Pro was bought at a trusted second hand chain here in the UK. It had been factory reset and thoroughly tested, which is why it would feel a bit redundant to factory reset again.

  • Is it possible to restore an iPhone 6 from a backup that isn't the most recent?

    Hi there
I accidentally deleted a thread of text messages which contained important info that i need to retrieve.
I then connected the phone to my iMac so i could try and restore it from a back up to get the messages back, but it automatically backed the phone up (after i had deleted the messages).
I then went into iTunes and chose to restore the phone from a backup (thinking it would give me the option to chose a backup prior to deleting the text messages), but sadly not. It automatically started backing up from the most recent backup which is obviously not going to get my messages back.
Is there a way to chose an older back up so i can retrieve the messages?
    Thanks in advance.
    Will

Go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and see what the date of the most recent backup.
If that b/u has the data that you want to retrieve then restore using that b/u. If you b/u does not have the info then you are out of luck unless the carrier maintains a b/u of messages sent to your phone. I suspect that the carrier would only have the messages sent over their system and not from WiFi.

  • Is it possible to send a Mail message from the keyboard (Macbook pro)?

Occasionally while I am composing a message in Mail the send command is somehow activated and the half complete message is sent.  I don't want this to happen and can find no keyboard command that I might be mistakenly typing. I certainly don't click on the send button in the tool bar.  Any ideas would be appreciated.  This is irritating and sometimes embarrassing.
    Thanks.

Shift CMD D  is the keyboard shortcut, not exactly easy to hit by mistake though.

  • Is it possible to restore my iPhone from both iCloud AND iTunes?

    Hi there,
Is it possible to restore my iPhone from both iCloud AND iTunes?
I backed up phone to iCloud only (not iTunes... yea Im a dummy)  and when I restored everything was great except my music and pictures never came back! I did get a fraction of my pictures though... maybe 40 out of 1000. I synced with iTunes and now have my music back but almost no pics.
Shall I just erase all setting/content and  try again to restore from iCloud and then sync with iTunes? It just takes so long so I thought I'd ask to see if anyone had a better idea. I miss my pics.... D*mn iCloud
    Thanks so much!

    Welcome to Apple Communities
Yes, you can restore from an iCloud backup and sync with iTunes. Probably you won't recover all your photos with iCloud backup because you can only recover photos taken in your iPhone. When you sync your iPhone in iTunes, you will have your music and photos

  • I only show one iCloud on my IPhone that can do a restore. I synced it with my MacBook Pro and I think that may have messed things up. Prior to that I have several backups. Will a "genius" be able to access the info I need?

If things seem to be going haywire with your phone, it seems that it MAY be a software issue.
Now, that being said, that does not necessarily mean that it is a virus. Software issues do happen sometimes. It is probably just coincidence.
What you need to do is restore the device using iTunes. This will fix any software issues. After you have done this, you can restore from an iCloud backup.
iCloud does not back up the actual software, so no, the "virus" would not have gotten into the backups.
The link below provides steps on restoring your device using iTunes as well as how to restore from an iCloud backup.

Don't worry! Everything should be back to normal if you follow these steps.

  • I had to restore my iphone 5 from an icloud backup; how can i get all my imessages back on my phone? why isnt it syncing from icloud?

I had to restore my iphone 5 from an icloud backup from a week ago. everything restored fine, but it only brought back my imessages up to the backup date (a week ago); but all the messages up to today are on my mac messages app on my macbook air; how can i get them all back on my phone? why isnt it syncing from icloud automatically if its still available on my mac? Thanks for any help!

iCloud doesn't sync iMessages.  They are sent from the iMessage server to your devices, not synced between devices.  I don't think you'll be able to get these messages back on your phone, but you should be receiving any new messages.
