Is it possible to restrict printing via e-mail to one or a few domains?

Regarding HP ePrinting
Per default any emails will be printed, it is possible to restrict to certain e-mail addresses
Is it possible to restrict print per e-mail to a domain or a few domains, to get a better security and a more simple administration?
example:
e-mail addresses: [email protected], [email protected] ... etc.
Rule in HP ePrint: *@mymaildomain.com

Hi,
It is possible to restrict printing for allowed senders only,
You will have to add any email you would like to allow accessing, adding a bulk domain nake is not possible..
ePrintCenter lets you control who can e-mail print jobs to your HP product from mobile or network connected devices. Follow these steps set your ePrint-enabled product to receive print jobs from allowed senders only.
Log into your ePrintCenter account at HP ePrintCenter .
On the ePrintCenter Printers page, click ePrint Settings . The ePrint Settings window opens.
On the Allowed Senders tab, select Allowed Senders Only , and then click Save .
Type an allowed sender's email address in the dialog box, and then click Add Email . The email address is added to the Allowed Email Addresses list.
NOTE:You may specify up to 500 e-mail addresses allowed to send print jobs to your product. Your HP product ignores e-mail from addresses not on your allowed senders list.
(Optional ). To send a confirmation email to the sender after the ePrint job prints successfully, select the check box next to the email address in the Email job status column.
NOTE:To remove an email address from the Allowed Email Addresses list, click the X next to the email address in the Remove column.
Say thanks by clicking the Kudos thumb up in the post.

  • Restrict printing via MAC address

I am currently using Mac OS 10.2 server and now we are considering upgrading to 10.4 because of better printer servers. We don't current use the server software for printer serves. We would like to have the ability to restrict printing to the printer via the computers MAC address. Is this possible via server 10.4?
    Thanks in advance

You could use the firewall to block certain IP addresses from printing.
You can ensure certain computers receive consistent IP adddresses via DHCP using Server Admin > DHCP > Settings > Static Maps which depends on MAC addresses.

  • Possible to sending sms via mac mail?

Is it possible to send a message to a group (from address book contacts) and choose whether it goes via SMS (to a cellphone) for some recipients or email to other recipients?

In the USA, you can do so by addressing the email to {10digitPhoneNumber}@{cellCarrierDomainName}.
Examples for this, for USA carriers, are given at http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/939/smsemail_cingular_nextel_sprint_tmobile_verizonvirgin. I would imagine that the same sort of technique would work in AUS. The trick is finding out the carriers' domain names.
You might try a google search using search terms "email domain cellphone text message {list of names of cellular providers in AUS}" or have somebody text message your email address then it will show up in the "From:" in the email that you receive.
So to send to a group consisting of some cellular SMS addresses and regular email addresses, the group would just be defined accordingly, with the SMS-style email addresses. Just remember that there may be a restriction on the number of characters that can be received per message by the cell phone SMS recipients.

  • Windows Printing via Samba

In Mac OS 10.4 there was a feature in the Printer Setup Utility where the option key could be held down while "more printers" was being clicked and an advanced option would be added to the pull down menu for the printing method. This advanced tab allowed one to setup Windows Printing Via Samba. When one holds down the option key while clicking more printers in the printer setup system preference in OS 10.5, there is no longer an advanced option that appears in the pull down menu. Is there way to setup this same feature in OS 10.5?

I was having this issue too. This is a Windows/Apple compatibility thing I think, My company uses Active Directory but won't support my Mac Laptop On it. (They are living in the past).
Anyway, because Active Directory isn't set up you must enter your passwords while setting up the printer and check the box that says save to the Keychains.
SO, to add it on the NT network. Open Printer/Fax in System prefs. Then click the + Button. On top choose Windows Printer and you'll get the entire network. As you follow the network at each server you are going to if it requires a user name and password enter them and make sure you tell it to save in your key chains. When you finally reach your Network Printer it may or may not ask for a password there. My Company it only asks at the server levels.
Now for the unknown part. Depending on how your IT dept. has set things up you may have to enter your USER NAME in the Authorization Box as follows DOMAIN\USERNAME (NOTE the "\" backslash!). Also note that this format wasn't consistent across servers, again, at least at my Company. It all depends on how the servers are set up. To use the printer by my desk I have to go through 3 servers each two needed the domain\username and one did not. It's a guessing game unless you can use Active Directory.
At least in my company this worked and I'm able to print again. I did find if I entered my Authorization information wrong (type-os). I could NOT edit them in Keychain Access and have it work correctly I always has to go back to the whole add Windows and follow the correct path.
I'm sure someone more savvy than I might be able to chime in here and describe how to add a printer by just typing the URL and if you are that person please let us know it would be alot easier!
    Hope this helps?!?

  • Is it possible to restrict certain users from printing from Adobe Reader?

Is it possible to restrict certain users from printing from Adobe Reader?

First of all, with Reader you can't change any security settings.
If you have Acrobat, then you could place a password on changing the document (which includes printing), and then give it to only some users.

  • Is it possible to allow printing of a PDF document without a password but still restrict editing?

We are putting a sample chapter of our book as a PDF on our webpage... the book is a workbook with exercises, so there are places for people to fill in a circle, write things, etc. (Which cannot be done the same way using the form feature and that is not my intent; the full workbook will be print-only.) I can imagine someone might want to print out the sample chapter to complete it... and then eventually buy our printed book. Ideally I would like to enable printing but DISABLE any editing of the PDF, just to protect our material. This PDF would be only for potential customers; I would make any changes to the original document in InDesign. The only options I see in Acrobat are to restrict printing AND editing with a password... you can't separate the two. Is there a way around this? (I have the latest Acrobat with Creative Cloud.) Thank you!

In the security permissions there are 2 different entries for "Printing Allowd" and "Changes Allowed".

  • Printing to AppleTalk printer via Ethernet

I’ve read all the pages I could find about this topic, and several threads on this forum, and tried everything suggested but I still can’t get my Mac Mini with OS X 10.7.4 to print to my HP printer.
My hardware setup is thus: HP LaserJet 6MP is connected by its AppleTalk cable through an AsanteTalk bridge to an Ethernet hub. (There is also a DSL box connected to the same hub). The hub is connected to my Mac Mini via the Ethernet port. This setup worked fine with my old eMac with 10.3.9. The printer was recognized automatically and I did not need to do any special setup, at least with 10.3.9. I understand that Apple dropped support for AppleTalk with Snow Leopard, but is there any possible way to make this work?
I bought a Mac Mini with OSX 10.7.4, and I have connected the same hub to the Mac Mini via the Ethernet port. The DSL works fine. But I am unable to print. I have read through the following pages and tried everything suggested on these pages:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4670
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4507
    http://gigaom.com/apple/how-to-resurrect-your-appletalk-printer-in-snow-leopard/
What I have done to set up the printer is:
    1) I have downloaded the latest HP drivers and run Software Update today, to verify that all my software is current.
    2) I powered down everything and then powered everything back up starting with the printer, then the hub, then the Mac.
    3) In System Preferences -> Network, I noted that it says “Ethernet is currently active and has the IP address 76.212.150.40” So I am assuming the IP address of the printer is 76.212.150.40 However I'm not sure if I'm correct in assuming that.
    4) I ran Terminal and typed PING 76.212.150.40 and got a series of replies,
    64 bytes from 76.212.150.40: icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=0.071 ms and so forth.
5)I go to System Preferences -> Print & Scan. I click the + to add a printer, then the IP icon. For Protocol I have tried all 3 options, but the last time I chose Line Pinter Daemon - LPD for the protocol, because it’s an old printer.
    6) For the address I put in 76.212.150.40
    7) The “Print using” field came up automatically with Generic PostScript Printer, but I chose Select Printer Software... and chose HP LaserJet 6P/6MP - Postscript.
    8) I click “Add” and I get a warning message, “Unable to verify the printer on your network. It cannot be currently determined if ‘76.212.150.40” supports the Line Printer Daemon Protocol. Would you still like to create the queue?” I click Continue.
    9) The next dialog box asks me to verify my printer’s options (the only one is Total Memory and I set that to “6 Mb or more” because the printer has 7 Mb of memory. I click OK.
    10) The printer shows up in the list of printers. Under it says, “Idle, Last Used.” I print a test page of one sentence, using Tex-Edit Plus. The printer’s status changes to “In use” in printer list. In the Print Queue, it says that it is printing my document, but under that it says “The printer is busy.” And it stays like that.
I have tried deleting that printer, and adding it again with all the above steps. I have also powered down the whole system and started up again. Now it says, “The printer is not responding.” and if I turn the printer and hub off and then back on again, I am back to “The printer is busy” message.
Is the problem here that I am trying to still use AppleTalk or LocalTalk? Besides the LocalTalk port, the printer also has 2 parallel ports (a B-type and a C-type) and an infrared port that I have never used. Would a parallel-to-USB cable or adapter solve this?
Is the problem that the DSL is interfering with the communication between the Mac and the printer? Is the problem with OSX 10.7.4? Or did I make a mistake in the setup process?
Is there a solution for this or will I have to buy a new printer? The printer still works fine and worked well with 10.3.9. I would hate to just discard the HP LaserJet because it is a workhorse that has printed over 120,000 pages for me and still seems perfectly useable.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

You suggested earlier that "The only way you can print to an AppleTalk printer from OS  X 10.6 or later is if the printer is a shared printer running on a Mac running OS X 10.5 or earlier.
I am using a Macbook Pro with 10.7.4 and like Bob Weaver, I have tried all of his methods as well. What is the set up as you describe above. I have an old HP laserjet 5m with the Directjet.
To be absolute about things, I should change that wording to indicate AppleTalk only printers need to be shared from a Mac running OS X 10.5 or earlier.
You have a JetDirect card that allows for other connections/protocols other than AppleTalk.
I am trying to use it with my mac using an ethernet cable. I cannot ping it, I cannot see it but my ethernet shows its connected with the green light. The HP is a work horse and I would hate to turn it into a door stop. Iv'e printed the config sheet and have entered the IP address with no luck.
I cuurently use a Netgear Wireless Router/Modem and have tried using its ethernet ports as well but I continue to have no luck. Can I print to this thing or is it a paperweight
You appear to be on the right track here, but you appear to need to make some changes to the JetDirect setting to use it on your network.  I have never worked with a JetDirect card, so I cannot give you all the specifics.  Bob Weaver's post will probably be of more help than my outline.  You may also want to search the Apple Discussion boards a bit more -- especially the OS X 10.6 archives.  There were a lot of posts regarding switching over from AppleTalk to network cards.
    The basics are:
    1.  Set the JetDirect card to use a routable address that your router can use.  You can look at the router's configuration to get the expected range of addresses and the gateway address for the router.  You will also need to pay attention to the subnet mask to make sure the two devices are on the same network.
    2.  I generally recommend that you reserve an IP address on the router for the printer.  You will need the JetDirect's MAC address to do this.  The benefits of setting a static IP address for the printer is that you can power down the printer assuming it will hold the set address.  This saves a lot of time and headaches.
    3.  When you configure the printer with the static IP address, subnet mask, and router gateway, be sure to turn off the option for it to get its address using DHCP.  That is, you don't want the printer to get a new address from the router every time you power it up or down.

  • Upload PDF directly to printer via Citrix from off-site computers

Is it possible to upload PDF documents directly to the newer HP printers, especially the business printers and copiers (MFDs)?  We have HIPAA-containing data that home-based users must print at work, and therefore cannot be sent via the cloud.
Our current printer vendor supports uploading PDFs directly, which our users are using.  The workflow involves printing via PDFCreator, then opening the web interface print tab of the device they are printing to and uploading, via a browse button, the PDF document.  The connection is handled through our Citrix remote access servers, everything is encrypted, and all data stays out of the cloud.
Because HP's ePrint is in the cloud, we cannot submit HIPAA-containing data via that route.
If no current HP products have that capability, can it be added?  I would think a firmware update to have an upload option would be very doable.  It appears that the ability to print PDFs is already present via ePrint--this would only be another way to submit a print job.
Our current printer vendor's device functionality includes being able to upload and print other print-ready formats, including .PCL and .PS files, but we aren't using that capability currently.  It would be nice to be able to upload .DOC/.DOCX formats directly.

    Hey SPS64,
Thank you for participating in the HP Consumer Support Forums!  The steps you desire are not going to be found on Consumer grade printers, but may be able to be found on some of the Enterprise level printers from HP.  I would advise posting this question on the Enterprise printing boards where there are many experts who would be willing to assist with your question.

  • ThinClient t5745 unable to print via LaserJet p1005

We just bought a HP ThinClient t5745 at my job to use mainly for printing out some sort of worksheets. We already have a LaserJet p1005 so we wanted to use that as the printer. It is possible in the setup to find the driver for the printer and it is also able to detect whether the printer is on or off BUT it will not print. The ThinClient says it is "processing" and some seconds after it says "online - idle" at the printer's status.
I have tried to print via a network printer we also have (a HP Color LaserJet CM6040 MFP) and it works perfectly. The p1005 do just fine on a Windows computer.
I hope anyone can help me out. Thanks.

  • Macbook will not connect to printer via the network

I have my G5 computer connected to my home network airport extreme with an ethernet cable. I have a new Canon MX 860 (which will work over a network) which is also connected to the airport extreme with an ethernet cable (wired lan connection). The G5 and the Canon work well together; printing and scanning etc.
I have a Macbook that will not connect to the Canon via the network. I have checked and rechecked the setup and am stumped. I get various failure notices:
"The "Canon..." printer could not be found in your list of printers" (altho it is listed)
"Unable to get printer status (forbidden)"
"Status: In use, Default" (altho the printer is ready and not in use)
"Operation could not be completed -client-error-not-possible"
Both computers are setup for printer sharing and the printer list allows the Canon to be shared.
The network works well supporting Macbook and several Tivos.
Any help on what I should try next?
    Thanks for any suggestions
    John

    Hello John,
For starters, you don't need printer sharing enabled. Since the MX860 is connected to the extreme via Ethernet, then the MacBook should be able to connect directly to the MX860 via wireless or wired.
For either type of connection, you need to add the printer via More Printers > Canon IJ Network. You should not connect via the Default browser view, as this will only show the shared printer via the G5 (which you should disable). In fact, based on the errors you are getting, it does sound like you have added the printer by selecting the shared offering.
So I would delete the current printer queue and add again, using the More Printers > Canon IJ Network menu. This window should show the MX860 with its MAC address in brackets. When you select it and press Add, the printer will be created with a name something like 'Canon MX860 series (00.00.85.xx.xx.xx)'.
If the printing still fails with the printed added as above, then please reply.
