Is it possible to revert back from iPhoto to Pictures?

Too be quite honest I have never really liked iPhoto and especially when you sync it with the iPhone and iPad etc. Is it possible to revert back to just using Pictures?
If this is possible I would like to be able to export my iPhoto album into Pictures and then delete iPhoto.
Cheers and Happy New Year!!

What is your iPhoto version?
In iPhoto '11 you would need to export your iPhoto events, one by one, to folders in your Pictures folder.
Use the command "File > Export, Kind Original" to export the original files you imported to iPhoto, and use the command "File > Export , Kind Current" to export your edited versions.
To find out, which photos have been dited or not, define two smart albums (File > New > Smat album) with the  rules:
     Photo is not edited
and the other one:
     Photo is edited
This way you can make sure to export all edited versions as well and not only the originals.

  • Is it possible to revert back from Maverick to previous software?

Maverick is causing many issues on my system.  Is it possible to revert back?

Yes. Erase your drive and reinstall Snow Leopard 10.6.8. You may then check your Purchases page in the App Store for your prior OS X version you want, download and install it.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then do the following:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion on a New HDD/SDD
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your external hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Can I revert back to iPhoto '09?

I can't use iPhoto '11 and need to revert back to iPhoto '09... But I don't still have an iPhoto '09 version of my library...
I use the 'Tell a friend' feature after uploading the gallery to mobileme, but in iPhoto '11 - my clients don't see the email.. most of my corporate clients just get 'blank' emails (the server actually strips the images but leaves 'white' text from the template on a white page!). I also don't like the fact you can only enter 3 or 4 lines of text in the email compared to the flexibility of iPhoto '09...
My question is - Can I delete iPhoto '11 and reinstall iPhoto '09 from the install disc? I don't mind losing my iPhoto library as I use Lightroom and iView for my archive.. iPhoto is mainly just for getting images to clients conveniently...
Is this possible yet? I've read lots of threads saying you'll need an '09 library... Can you not to a clean install of '09 over the top of '11?

Have you tried sending the notification from the gallery online? Maybe that will go thru successfully.
Or you can use regular email, perhaps with one of the stationary layouts, to send a new gallery notification.
If you go back to iPhoto 09 you will have to start over with a new library and import the Masters folder and its contents from your current iPhoto 11 library. You will lose all of your keywords, titles, descriptions, albums, books, cards, calendars and slideshows.
I'd give the regular email with stationary a try before going back to iPhoto 09 and losing all of my organizational efforts.

  • Since I've updated my IMac to Yosemite, my screensaver preferences will not stay on IPhoto, it always reverts back to National  Geographic pictures.  Anyone have this problem?

I have an IMac from early 2009.  I've updated the OS X to Yosemite to 10.10.1 and since I've updated it, my system screensaver preferences WILL allow me to set the screensaver to IPhoto, but after a few minutes, it always reverts back to National Geographic pictures.  I tried putting ALL 18,000 of my pictures into a separate folder and choosing THAT folder for the screensaver, but again - it reverted back to the National Geographic pictures.
Is there any way I can set my screensaver preferences to IPhoto pictures?  Am I missing something?  Thanks for any input or suggestions.

  • I tried moving an album from iPhoto to Pictures.  It took the entire iPhoto Library.  Now I can't use it, and I cannot open it.  How do I get it back to just iPhoto?

I tried moving an album from iPhoto to Pictures, but the entire iPhoto Library moved.
I now cannot open iPhoto.  How can I get it back?

A folder named Library popped up in Pictures.  I didn't want the entire Library, just the one album.
When I open the Library Folder in Pictures, I get sub folders dated with years.
When I open the subfolders, I just keep getting more folders.
This looks like you were viewing your iPhoto Library; the contents of the Masters folder. Is your original iPhoto library still there?
Where do you keep your iPhoto library? In the default location in your "Pictures" folder?

  • Can you revert back to iPhoto once you updated to Photos

Can you revert back to iPhoto once you updated to Photos?

Can you revert back to iPhoto once you updated to Photos?
The update to Photos leaves iPhoto installed, and also lets the iPhoto Library compatible with iPhoto. It creates a new Photos Library, that is sharing the photos with the iPhoto Library, so it will not need much extra space. You can use both libraries independently of each other. Edits you do in either library will not be visible in the other.
Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support
Just do not uninstall iPhoto or delete the library, if you want an option to revert back. Also, make a full backup before doing the upgrade.

  • Move photos from iPhoto to Pictures.

I want to move photos from iPhoto to Pictures. I exported about 16000 yesterday and trashed the iPhoto ones (still in Trash) but when I looked at the contents of the iPhoto library, they still appeared there.  Why is this?
If I've modified a pic, then export to Pictures, does the edited version get exported too?  If not, then is it deleted when I trash the iPhoto version?
Also, it seems that the date when the photo was taken is lost when I export ( it takes on the date of export).  Is there a way to retain it?

Original is just that: a byte by bye copy of the file you imported.
Current: Is the current version of the shot - this is as it exists in the Library. Exporting this will miss metadata.
The quality of the photo you export will depend on the export setting you choose.
You know, if you take a couple of seconds, iPhoto is much more flexible and easier to use than the Finder. The orgaisation, searching and sorting options are much richer. The problem with the Finder is simple: it organise files. But it makes no distinctions at all between kinds of files, and so offers exactly the same opportunities for organising your Photos, your Music, your Word files. It takes no account of standard metadata - like Exif date and so on.
iPhoto supports Raw on most cameras, and can be used as a "front end" to Photshop.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
One small conceptual leap and it might make things easier: That Jpeg is not your Photo. Easiest way to elaborate on this: In my iTunes Library I have an mp3 called 'Let_it_Be_The_Beatles'. But that mp3 is not the song. The Beatles never wrote an mp3. The wrote a song, recorded it and a copy of that recording is stored in a container. That container is adapted to the special opportunities of music, and it's an mp3 file.
Similarly, that Jpeg is just a container for your Photo.
Iphoto is about Photos. Import them, forget about the jpegs. Tiffs whatever, because they're just containers. Organise your photos - leveraging the special opportunities offered by the fact that they are photos -  and then anything you need to do with or to them can be done either with or via iPhoto.
When you export, the export dialogue simply asks you a: what you want to export (that's the kind) and everything else is about the container you want to put the Photo in.
Because, unless you export Originals, you're not exporting the file you imported, you're exporting the Photo you imported, and putting it in a new box.

  • How do I revert back to Iphoto '11 after an unexpected library migration to Photos app

The 10.10.3 Yosemite update unexpectedly migrated the iPhoto '11 library to the new Photos app format.  I have 15,000+ pictures and prefer iPhoto.  How to revert back?

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • How do I get my lost photos back from iPhoto 11

How do I get my lost photos back for iPhoto 11

With that amount of information the only possible solution anyone can recommend is to restore from your back up.
    Other than that:
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. More information means you get better assistance.

  • Go back from iPhoto '08 to iPhoto '06

    Hi,
I upgraded to iPhoto '08 on my good old PowerBook G4, but I'm rather disappointed with the upgrade because iPhoto is extremely slow.
So I would like to go back to iPhoto '06.
I followed the instructions on the forum to revert to the previous version, but in all explanations about how to do this, you loose all your metadata from your library, i.e. comments, ratings, keywords, ...
Is there a way, any way, to convert my library back from 08 to 06?
It contains loads of metadata for about 2500 pictures, so recreating all this will be really painful.
Of course I didn't make a backup first of my library. Lesson learned there, but I never felt the need to downgrade with previous iLife versions. In fact, I'm even more disappointed about that, than the fact that I tend to loose my nicely organised library.
    Thanks for any advice.

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network, Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
