Is it possible to save a non-editable PDF from InDesign CS6?

Wehave an issue with our printer and would like to start giving them files that are non editable. In Illustrator it's as simple as checking and unchecking a box in the PDF settings dialogue. I've tried multiple ways that I have across the net but they all are editable once opened in Illustrator for example. We would like to give them flattend/non-editable PDF. We would prefer not to use any passwords or security features.
Is there a way? Thanks for the help.

Are you worried that they are opening the PDF in Illustrator and might accidently edit or move/delete something?
All printers would have either Acrobat or Adobe Reader which is free, so there is no reason for them to open your PDFs in Illustrator.
Perhaps they are opening them in AI to correct problems in your PDFs. Ask them if there are any issues, it's possible your InDesign or PDF creation process is wrong for digital printing, (for example, Rich Black text that needs to be converted to 100 Black only, etc.)
Or maybe they are doing imposition.
However, opening PDFs in Illustrator is still not a good idea. Illustrator is NOT a general purpose PDF editor.
In Acrobat Pro there are Preflight Profiles and Fixups that may correct some issues.
PitStop Pro is a better choice for correcting issues in PDFs. And there are also third party Acrobat plug-ins for impostion purposes.
A RIP with software specifically designed for it will also help fix PDFs without resorting to Illustrator.
Since your printer is in-house, I suggest you have a meeting to ask if they are opening your PDFs in Illustrator and why they are doing so.
Perhaps some guidelines should be agreed upon by both sides and enforced by some rules.
I have a feeling that some additional training (possibly on both sides) is needed to straighten out this situation.

  • How to Edit PDF from InDesign

I have a user running Adobe Indesign CS2 saving a document as a PDF. They then want to give that PDF to User2 and have them be able to make simple changes to the text in that PDF using Adobe Acrobat 8. When User2 tries to edit the text in the PDF however, they receive the error "All or part of the selection has no available system font. You cannot add or delete text using the currently selected font." What is the best way to ensure that User2 can edit the text in the PDF? Do they need to install the appropriate fonts? Does Indesign have the ability to simply embed the fonts with the PDF so it can be edited by anyone?

    >What is the best way to ensure that User2 can edit the text in the PDF?
Have them use InDesign and suply the InDesign file.
What you are trying to do is beyond what is intended using Acrobat. Even if they have the font, their success may be limited.

  • Is there an easy way to save a form as a non-editable PDF?

Is there something like 'save as non-form PDF' in Acrobat PRO? I have a form which I want to use and then save as something that does not have editable fields, just plain PDF. Preferably some way that does not include complex stuff, because if that is the case, I'd rather just create a word processing document from which I can crank out print to PDF.
I must add: I tried "Sanitize document" but that turns the content of the pages into pixel-based images and that is not what I want.
I must also add: I do not want to trust stuff like security, locking and such
I must also add: the result must be a PDF that is usable outside of Adobe apps (non-Adobe PDF viewers)

If your base content is in a Word Doc or RTF file, you can use OpenOffice.org Write to add form fields to the document and the you can export as PDF and the created PD will contain the form fields.
With the additional of iPxd, tablets, and smart phones and viewer apps the possablity of the end user not being able to-in the form or have the form work as expected has increased.
As  for Apple Preview, there is script to fix the viewable PDF. Exporting the data a to an FDF, XFDF, etc should still be possible.

  • Fillable PDF to saved non-editable PDF

I currently have a trial version of Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and Livecycle Designer ES 8.2. I am looking to create a fillable form PDF and then send it to clients who will use adobe reader to fill the form and then save it as non-editable PDF form for general usage.
    How can this be done?
    Thanks, Vijay

    Hi Michael,
Thanks much for the response, can you help me with instructions on how I can enable extended rights? Sorry, I am not too familiar with the things in Acrobat or Livecycle.

  • Is it possible to save a data portion starting from when a "save" button is pressed?

    Hi,
The below attached vi acquires data from a sensor. The sensor signal output can be reset to zero and the data saved into a file. However, the saved data comprises the data portion starting from when the vi starts running until the "stop" button is pressed. Is it possible to save the data portion starting from when the "save" button until the "stop" button are pressed?
    Best regards,

  • How to create a secure & non editable PDF? So that it cannot be modified by any of the secondary too

How to create a secure & non editable PDF? So that it cannot be modified by any of the secondary tools available online for security breaks and editing of PDF document
I put all the security options but still there are tools to break the security (even password) leading to editing of document
Need to avoid any such situation

If the document is important, and there is something to be gained by modifying it - then someone will just make a new copy of it (e.g. print and scan, screen capture), and make a new document, then change it.
If protecting the integrity of the document - proving it is unchanged - is the thing, look at digital signatures. Forget security, the signed file can be freely edited, but the signature will always show it is changed.

  • Does Adobe provide a PHP library for dynamically generating a non-editable PDF on a website?

As the title says, I am wondering if Adobe provides a PHP library for dynamically generating a non-editable PDF for my company website.  Any information on this would be greatly appreciated!

By non-editable I assume you simply mean "with password security set" and understand the serious limitations of this.
While Adobe doesn't offer PHP it offers several server options
    - LiveCycle PDF Generator. Java API and watched folder. Convert file types to PDF. Security can be set, but perhaps only globally.
    - Adobe PDF LIbrary. For experienced C/C++ programmers. Licensed by DataLogics.

  • How to create a non editable PDF

How to create a non editable PDF in PDF writer 5 & 6 Professional.

There was a PDF Writer driver available in AA 5 (not in AA 6). It was part of the custom install and was not recommended for use. In AA 5, the Acrobat Distiller printer was preferred. In AA 6, the name was changed to the Adobe PDF printer. In any case, once you have the PDF, open the PDF in Acrobat and go to the document properties. Select the security options to restrict changes and/or extracting text. The security is not all that robust, but works for most folks.

  • I need to create a PDF from InDesign that people can edit in Reader or Acrobat

I need to create a PDF from InDesign that people can edit (for example, change a name from "John" to "Johnny") from either Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat. I have already looked at forms, but they do not keep your font colors, faces, and sizes and just make everything that is selected as a text form Black, 12pt, Times New Roman.
    Can anyone here help me?

    Vincent,
If you use Acrobat pro, generate your .pdf file and then save it as (french version):
... so that anyone using Acrobat Reader (or Pro, of course) can modify the .pdf file (with limitations), add comments, ...
If you want to try to "protect" your .pdf file, you can try with this (in the "Préférences" menu (french version)):

  • Why do the "SAVE", "SAVE AS" and "UNDO" functions of InDesign CS6 stop working after a short time?

Why do the "SAVE", "SAVE AS" and "UNDO" functions of InDesign CS6 stop working after a short time?

Normally they don't. You might have some sort of problem on your system, possibly a conflict with other software, or corrupt ID prefs or application. Trashing the prefs is easy, and good place to start: Replace Your Preferences
It will help if you tell us the OS version, whther you've installed the 8.0.1 patch, and how you are trying to access the commands, and what happens when you do. Is this isolated to one file, or does it happen with all files?

  • How to Make Editable Pdf from Photoshop

    Hello
I have more psd page design.  I want to make a editable pdf from Photoshop.

Please define "editable"? Do you mean "fillable", so that a person can easily type in the blanks? That doesn't seem the right job for Photoshop.

  • You can save a pdf file can be edited in a non-editable pdf format ????

I need to save the pdf file after compiling it in a non-editable format

  • Save PDF form into non editable PDF through button (SaveAs) using java script

I am creating PDF form using LiveCycle 8.0.
    1) Using SaveAs the form in PDF (non editable) by using button and javascript
      ( app.execMenuItem("SaveAs");
myScript.LoclAllFields("form1");) this code is not working.
    2) show / hide the field by choosing the drop down List.
Like, In drop down list their is tree option name  a, b, c. when select "A" hide the field_A and select "B". then show the field_A.

Thanks for that script, it is a great way of securing it from being edited, but reader still won't allow the form to be saved, only as a copy without the inputted text. The idea of what I'm trying to achieve is a form which the staff here fill out and then send to our customers with non editable fields, there is the option to print to pdf but that saves the file as an 'image', this stops people from highlighting text which we don't want, they have to be accessible afterwards to copy and paste the text at a later date.
I hope someone can help with what should be such a simple action.

  • How do I save a non editable version of a form

I want to make a form non-editable after I have filled in the fields. How do I do this?

With Reader your options are very limited. Basically the only thing you can do is to digitally sign the document, which can lock the fields and prevent them from being edited while the signature is still valid.

In the meantime, I'll see if there's a better forum to put this in on here.
