Is it possible to script a cut and paste?

I have grayscale photoshop files that I need to be transparant where they are white to be used with a solid color adjustment layer.
I have 2 methods I do this.
Create a clipping mask with a transparant B&W layer that was loaded from a channel.
I simply copy & paste the B&W into the layer mask of a solid color adjustment layer.
I like to use #2 when it's an element that I don't intend to resize, rotate, etc, like a grunge frame. Not only does it take a little less file space (not much, but a little) it also is just a tidier, easier way to manage in my layers and edit the colors.
Here's my problem: These files are rather big to share so I'd rather share the grayscale files and provide an action to take them to the next stage.
The Question: I have created an action for scenario #1, but is it possible to do scenario #2? I couldn't get it to work to copy & paste a layer into a layer mask.
Thank you kindly for your ideas and expertise.

Wouldn’t loading the luminance (possibly after hiding the other layers and then showing them again) and subsequently creating the Solid Color Layer with that as a Mask be easier?
But quite frankly I don’t quite get what the purpose is – maybe a screenshot could illuminate the issue.

No, the camera connection kit only supports the copying of photos and videos to the Photos app, it doesn't support copying content off the iPad. For your second camera instead of the SD reader part of the kit, does the iPad to camera cable not work with it for direct transfer to the iPad ?
For Lightroom and Nikon software again no - you can only install apps that are available in the iTunes app store on your computer and the App Store app on the iPad, 'normal' PC and Mac (OS X) software are not compatible with the iPad (iOS). There are some apps that perform fairly basic editing functions that are available in the store, but nothing as sophisticated as, for example, Lightroom.

  • My Copy/Cut and Paste Solution (if possible)

    I sent this to Apple:
    I know there's been a lot of people saying they need/want a cut/copy & paste feature.
I was thinking about this tonight and realized that with a touch screen that needs to control a lot, incorporating "clicking and dragging" becomes somewhat a challenge. I don't know if it's possible to do with a software update (through iTunes) but here two ideas...
First, in either idea, a "copy arrow" would need to be included in the touch keyboard. It would look like a cursor key arrow pointing to the right.
Idea #1 - Cursor arrow is a "sticky" key, so you hit it once and it stays selected until you hit it again.
Using a finger or the cursor magnifying glass, the user could place their cursor at the beginning of the text they want to highlight. They then click on the sticky arrow key. Using a finger or the cursor magnifying glass they place the cursor at the end of the text they want to highlight. The text now shows highlighted. Click the sticky arrow key again to copy the text and clear the highlight.
Idea #2 - Cursor arrow highlights as it's selected.
Using a finger or the cursor magnifying glass, the user places their cursor at the beginning of the text they want to highlight/copy. They then click on the copy arrow key (or hold it down) until they reach the end of the text they wish to copy. As they highlight, content highlighted is copied to the clipboard automatically. Clicking anywhere on the screen clears the highlight (and retains what is highlighted on the clipboard).
Being Apple, you may have a more elegant solution than me... but I thought I'd share it none-the-less.
    What do you think?

I was going to cut and paste part of another post about this but...
I think that th simplest initial implementation of copy/cut/paste is to have a clipboard icon that turns on a selection function with its own pallete of keys. (cut, copy, paste, select all, select none, delete selection, and my favorite desperately needed button... copy to notes)
Once in clipboard mode, single tap selects a ord, double tap selects a sentence, triple tap selects the paragragh, and a select all button selects the entire text within the frame.
Perhaps there should also be a button that looks like your cursor with the arrow. however, it would have to be set to highlight from one complete word to another and not from the exact point of touch.
Man do I wish that I could copy and paste this into my own post from earlier.

  • Cut and paste files by dragging in finder is only possible by giving my password. in the menu bar cmd x is depicted in grey so not available. How to c

I can only cut and paste files in finder (with the mouse) when i give my password at every single action. This is too time consuming of course. The option in the menue bar cmd x is depicted in grey in stead of black, thus not possible. How to solve this? I use the lion version.

Wow, thanks for the tip!  Should've known Apple wouldn't have made it any easier for us to tap this hidden function.
In the meantime I've gone back to Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro 13" 2010 model, where I use PathFinder as a Finder alternative that allows cutting and pasting, among other features I like (such as enlarging the default sidebar icon sizes in 10.6.8).  My battery life was cut in half with Lion and most of the new features have been supplemented in Snow Leopard by third-party utilities.  The only missing feature is iCloud, but I'm convinced Apple will backhaul this functionality to Snow Leopard at some time.  Otherwise frustrated Snow Leopard users will move to Windows to move up to the cloud!

  • Is it possible to export my contacts? if so how? cut and paste does not help as all i need is the name

all my contacts have cell phone numbers next to their name. i would like to print a list of only this field. How do i do this? i tried to cut and past to Excel but it not a "clean fit" and is more trouble than it is worth. is there an easier way?

Firefox does not have a contacts list. Any contacts list will be part of a website that you are using, you need to contact the support for the site to see if they have an option to export the contacts.

  • Cut and paste pdf files

I have a need to cut and paste from a pdf file into text editor is this possible. I have searched for 3rd party software and have not come up with any thing any help would be appreciated.
    thanks

I'd guess that you won't be able to copy and paste text since Ghost Script utilizes PostScript which is essentially an image file. It would be like trying to grab text from a bmp file...it's not text anymore because it's a picture of the text.
For other documents if you have the Acrobat 8 Reader and the tools are greyed out, then it sounds that most likely security was set to not allow copy and paste. The person who distilled the document would have selected that security option when creating the pdf. You can check that in the security settings in Properties.

  • Why can't I cut and paste photos between project?

I recently made the transition from iPhoto to Aperture. One of the weird things is that I can't cut and paste photos between projects. In iPhoto this is an easy way to organize your projects if some photos are in the wrong place.
You also can't split projects, in iPhoto you can do this easily. Say, if two day's photos ending being in the same project, in iPhoto there's a button that you split them in the middle. Is there something like this in Aperture?

    Copy and Paste:
In iPhoto "copy and paste" was possible, because it was not possible in the early versions, to see both projects at the same time, the one you are moving from, and the one you are moving to.
In Aperture you simply drag from the source project to the destination project to move image versions around. Also, it is easy to see more than one project in the Browser at the same time, see: Aperture 3 User Manual: Working with Two or More Browsers Open
To drag to another project, select the images in the project, then drag to the other project in the source list, for example:
To split a project, select the images you want to have in the split part, then create a new project from these images: Enable the check mark "Move selected items to new project". This will split the original project.

  • Why can't i cut and paste

Downloaded the new Mountain Lion and now I can't cut and paste. Tried the keyboard shortcuts and the drop down menu with no luck. Also can't accomplish this from right clicking. Any ideas?

    Hi elg07,
Welcome to the Safari Discussions Forum. It's interesting you should mention that.
I did a quick 'drop-down' of the Edit menu, and those facilities are greyed out, but as soon as I highlighted the subject matter of your post, lo and behold, the cut & paste facilities appeared in black, so it is possible to copy & paste, provided you run the cursor over the item or passage you wish to copy (mine highlights in yellow), you should be able to copy and paste.
    Hope this helps.

  • When I click on an email link on a website it doesn't open my entourage mail, I have to cut and paste the email address in

When I am looking at a website and it says contact us with an email address, in the past when I click on this my entourage 'new mail' page would open so I could contact them, but know that doesn't happen and I have to cut and paste the email address into entourage manually, sometime this is not possible becuase the website doesn't actually give the email address just a 'click here' option

  • The MacBook Pro will not allow me to cut-and-paste to and from or to click-and-drag to the external drive. I can copy-and-paste, but then I must send the original to the trash, which doubles the time and effort. Is there any way to cut-and-paste?

I have recently switched from a PC to a MacBook Pro.
I have a large number of documents and photographs on a multiterrabite external drive, backed up on a second multiterrabite external drive.
Both external drives are formatted for MacIntosh. This has been verified by agents at an Apple store and also at Best Buy in two different cities.
    This is the problem:
The MacBook Pro will not allow me to cut-and-paste to and from or to click-and-drag to the external drive. I can copy-and-paste, but then I must send the original to the trash, which doubles the time and effort. Is there any way to cut-and-paste?
Also, the MacBook Pro will not allow me to rename multiple documents or photographs. I can click-and-rename a single one, but this is impossibly time consuming. I can batch-rename in iPhoto, but when I transfer the photographs to the external drive, the rename does not transfer.
I’m reduced to using my wife’s Toshiba to cut-and-past, rename, and transfer documents. It works perfectly. Is there any way to do this on the MacBook Pro?
    Thanks!

No, this is a philosophical difference between Apple and Microsoft. Apple believes that it's dangerous to cut a file in case the user never pastes it; in that case the file is lost. Microsoft seems to not have this problem (if I remember Windows correctly) because they don't delete the originating file if it's cut but never pasted.
Even though Macs have a lot of keyboard shortcuts, philosophically Macs have traditionally been mouse-first. This applies to file copy operations. In your case, what a Mac user would do is open the source window, open the destination window (on your second drive), and then Command-drag the selected files from the source to destination window. This is because a normal drag would leave the originals behind, while adding the Command modifier key tells OS X that this is a Move, not a Copy, so don't leave the originals behind.
(In addition there are different rules for drag-copying within the same volume or between different volumes. If you drag between two folders on the same volume, the files are moved. If you drag between different volumes, the files are copied unless you hold down Command to delete the copies on the source volume.)

Two problems in this case. First, batch file renaming is not built into OS X unless you build something with Automator. However, there are many utilities that can do batch file renaming which you can find at macupdate.com or on the App Store. Since I work with media I often batch rename using one of the media managers I have lying around like Media Pro or Adobe Bridge (comes with Photoshop).
iPhoto is a database front end designed to shield the file system from the consumer and let them concentrate on creativity and sharing. As such it is often a poor choice for managing files directly. When you "transferred the photographs" chances are you moved the originals, not the ones iPhoto edited which are stored in a hidden folder.

There will not be a way to do it exactly like Windows. As described above, there are ways to do it "the Mac way." If it is possible to remove judgment on which way is "better" you might find the Mac way to be acceptable, but of course sometimes we simply prefer what we're used to.

  • Can you cut and paste multiple lines of text in adobe forms?

    Hi -
I am working on cutting and pasting large amounts of information into adobe forms. When I presently cut and paste from Excel, it puts all of the data in one line rather than in separate choices in a multiple choice selection.
Is there a way to separate out this data so that from the excel sheet, each piece of data is separated into a different possible selection?
    Thanks,
    Laura M

That's not the way of transferring data from Excel to a PDF form. You should format the data in two rows, the first being the field names and the second being their values, and then import it via Tools - Forms - More Form Options - Import Data...

  • Cut and paste from Safari to Word doc please Help!!!!!

I am trying to take a map from the internet via either Mapquest or Rand Mcnally maps and put it in a Word document, and I cannot figure out how to do it. I have tried to highlight the map and cut and paste it in the document but this is not working, if anyone out there knows how to perform this function, please let me know as soon as possible.
    Thanks
    Chris Knop

Hi knopper, Welcome to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
    This should work. :~)
1] cmd shift 4 brings up a cross hair.
2] drag cross hair across the map and release.
3] see the png file, maybe jpg, on your desktop or where you have system store new things.
4] open to make sure its what you want.
    5] copy it into word.
If that works, I like Green or Gold stars. See Apple info on the email alerts.

  • Cut and Paste function in Release 620

Hi Experts - I was wondering if someone out there can help me. My question is how would I copy a column of data from an ALV grid and paste it into another area (variant). I can get it to select (highlight) the column but cannot get it to copy to clipboard for later pasting. If this is not working with this version, is there a way I can get the script to keypress the letter "C" so I can do a copy through right-clicking and bringing up context menu.
    Thanks

    Hi umer ,
I was reading and came acroos few good tricks in SAP.As if now I dont know, That you facing this cut paste for all application of SAP or is it only ALV.
    Anyways,
I just wanted to tell you about quick cut and paste option which is available with SAP.
On the standard tool bar we can opt for this option.
CLick on customize local layout (Alt-F12) option in your local GUI setting and choose Quick cut and paste..
This way you can copy cut paste just by highlighting the text desired for copying. And the place the cursor on the place where you want to paste and just click the right button of the mouse. It is really amazing and comfortable.Just try it out .Hope it works out for you.Remember we need to activate using above options.
Hoping your query will be solved.
    Have a best day ahead.

  • Can't Drag and Drop, or cut and paste

Weirdest thing - all of a sudden I can't drag and drop, or cut and paste. I fixed permissions, deleted varied preference files and rebooted, reset the permissions on /tmp, etc. and still no go.
Any suggested avenues to find what the possible problem is, and how to solve (short of reinstalling)?

On the left side of the browser at the top of the iPhoto window you will see two symbols. The top one looks like a sheet of paper with the corner folded down, the bottom looks like multiple sheets/cards. If you click on the top symbol, you will view thumbnails of the pages in the book; the bottom gives you photos. At the bottom left of the window, there are two buttons above the word "view". Clicking on one button versus the other changes the window to view either one or two pages. This also affects whether or not the pages are locked together in the browser. When you are in page view, you can drag and drop pages in the browser to create the order you wish.
    I hope this helps.

  • Cut and Paste - inter-application...

I am wondering if inter-application Cut and Paste is possible? Or am I being remedial? Because I seem to be able to Cut and Paste within an application, but not between applications.
Is it just that I am missing something, or does this functionality not yet exist?

I can copy paste from GMail to any other app.
But I think you are referring to the Bridge Mail application, in which case I am not an expert but this is consistent with the future BlackBerry Balance that will appear in OS7 for smartphones. You have one device, and two sets of applications : the corporate ones and the personal ones. And copy/paste from one set to the other will be forbidden.
