Is it possible to select a part of a video project and only render that specific part?

Hi.
I formerly used Sony Vegas Pro - and I'm in the process of getting into Final Cut Pro X, and I'm wondering...
In Sony Vegas Pro - I was able to mark a part of my video project, and only render that. It was usefull if I wanted to send a part of a project rendered to someone else for review etc.
In Final Cut Pro X I can't find a similar possibility - I have to render my complete video project - or nothing at all.
Does anyone know if it's possible to select a part of a project and render only that part?
Best regards
Jens Rosenstand

Hi.
Well...that's not quite what I meant...
I would like to render a part of a video to a .MOV file for example - that I can send of to someone to watch - but the whole project, just a part of it.
Is that possible?

    Ok really now...has anyone figured out a new way to select a portion of a project and output just that part?? Or is it still a 20 step process?? What is the best/fastest way to give my client a teaser clip??

    Still a 20 step process, many ways to approch it. Duplicate project and selectively delete everything around it. Or select and copy what you need. I think it could be a year before apple makes that step a 2 or 3 step process.

  • Is it possible to lock a layer within a document and password protect that specific layer?

    Is it possible to lock a layer within a document and password protect that specific layer?

    As stated, no way to do exactly what you want, but an option might be to turn OFF Visibility for that Layer, if you do not want it seen, and then Flatten, and do a Save_As.
    If you do want that Layer seen, but not able to be edited, then Flatten, with Visibility ON, and Save_As.
    The question is, do you want the recipient to see that Layer, or not?
    Next, Do they need to be able to edit all other Layers, but just not that one?
    Last, what type of Layer is it?
    Good luck,

  • Select song, hit play button for music and only get spinning circle

    Apple TV does not respond to play music.  All my music shows on the screen, but when I hit button to play all I get is the spinning circle. Gave it several minutes to see if it just needed time to load but nothing.  Internet connection must be ok because I can play a Netflix selection.

    Hello there Shazack,
    It sounds like you are trying to play your iTunes purchases on your Apple TV but it never plays. I would start by restarting your device in this manner:
    Apple TV: How to restart your Apple TV
    Restart your Apple TV by selecting Settings > General > Restart.
    If that does not fix the issue, I would sign out of your Apple ID in Settings on your device, then restart one more time and sign back in.
    Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

    If all you want is to create a backup of some file you can do:public class Foo
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Foo f = new Foo();
            f.createBackup("something.xls");
        public void createBackup(String inFile) {
            FileInputStream in = null;
            FileOutputStream out = null;
            try {
                in = new FileInputStream(inFile);
                out = new FileOutputStream(inFile + ".bak");
                int read;
                while ((read = in.read()) > -1) {
                    out.write(read);
                out.flush();
            } catch (FileNotFoundException e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
            } catch (IOException e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
            } finally {
                if (in != null) {
                    try {
                        in.close();
                    } catch (IOException e) {
                        e.printStackTrace();
                if (out != null) {
                    try {
                        out.close();
                    } catch (IOException e) {
                        e.printStackTrace();

  • Creating an index: it's not possible to select a tablespace for the index

    Hi,
    we are using SQL-Developer Version 3.0.04.
    When creating an index it's not possible to select a tablespace for the index. The only choice which is offered by SQL-Developer is <DEFAULT>.
    The user itself has privileges on several other tablespaces - and therefore not just only on the default tablespace of the user.
    Any help will be appreciated
    Rgds
    JH

    Hi JH,
    Well, the capability is somewhat buried in the UI, but it is there.
    In the Create Index dialog ...
    1. Tick the "Advanced" check-box in the upper right-hand corner.
    2. Select "Properties" from the left-hand list (Definition, Properties, Partitions, DDL).
    3. Click the Storage Options... button
    4. Use the drop-down list to select the desired tablespace.
    Return to (2.) and select DDL to see that your tablespace choice is present.

    And if all you see in the drop-down list is <DEFAULT>, then I would suggest rechecking the user's privileges. Or provide more details about your environment: OS / Database / JDK version, and so on.

  • Possible to select movie playlists on iTunes?

    Just upgraded to Apple TV 2 and wondered whether it is possible to select a playlist rather all the files on a Mac that you connect to? When I connect to my Movies I only seem to have the option of seeing all my movies rather than playlists with selected movies.....

    you have to enable playlists in the appletv settings menu.
    do that and it will show all your movie and tv show playlists (as well as music).

  • Record a selected Video, Audio and Subtitle track in low res for proof.

    I am moving my DVD Authoring from Spruce Maestro to DVD Studio Pro.
    The DVDs I create have 25 languages on them that need to be proofed by 25 different people all over the world. In the Spruce system I could just manually record the output with whatever video, audio and subtitle track that needed to be proofed in a WMV file format and then email the proof version before final burn.
    Now in DVD Studio Pro and can not seem to get an analog output to do a manual record. I have purchased an additional video card for my Mac Pro that has S-Video and that does not work. I have the DVI to S-Video converter cable but I can not select that output when it is active. I have tried the export function but that only changes the m2v file into a mpg file, so that does not work.
    Do you have any other suggestions - this is very important for my operation.
    Thank you, Ron Cole 209-604-5415

    very interesting. I do a lot with translation, though my maximum has been 16 languages on a single disc.
    There are a couple things you could do.
    1) One is just to do a screen capture using something like Screenflow to capture and process the single streams you want to output.
    2) I think the first approach is a little arduous. Better would be to use the power of Final Cut even before you get to DVD SP. Unfortunately I don't know your entire workflow. But subtitles can now be done in Final Cut and then carry forward into DVD SP. I'd lay out my edit and soundtrack and subtitles in FCP, and then export a file of my choice and size and have it automatically uploaded. This could be done right out of FCP or by creating a batch in Compressor. Changes, as they came back, would be applied in FCP. Once you had final approval (golden words), I'd move into Compressor to create M2v and ac3 files.
    My projects are done with similar workflows. I then have to ship off translated graphics for the DVD menus. That can be dealt with at the end in a finalized disc or preferably sending off stills for an early approval.
    Make sense?

  • Possible to select parts of image/flash file?

    is it possible to select a certain part of an image [eg: A

    EG: if you click a certain region of map it will show

    dispatching the event and setting the "prog" var to the % in
    which i want my meter to display

    what im doing here is adding an event listener from my

    then setting a var(myFlex:Object) to the
    movieclip.parent.parent.parent which would be the flex movieclip
    then actually grabbing that var "prog" to figure out what
    level to set the meter.
    //heres the flash side
    stop();
    var mm:MovieClip = this;
    this.parent.parent.parent.parent.addEventListener("setMeter",

    function cHandler(event:Event):void
    var myFlex:Object = mm.parent.parent.parent;
    mtr.gotoAndStop(myFlex.prog);
    i know there are definitely better ways to do this but it
    works for me. i have used the external interface class and local
    connection class but this works pretty well for me. im currently
    using the external interface with the yahoo maps api and it works
    really well but im having trouble using more than one external

  • HT1751 Question: Is it possible to move just part of my iTunes content (i.e. TV shows) to an external harddrive, keeping the rest of the content in place?  Several seasons of TV shows are taking up 102 GB of space, and I'm completely out of space on my HD

    Is it possible to move just part of my iTunes content (i.e., only TV shows), keeping the rest of the Library in place?  I have purchased several seasons of some TV shows, which take up 102 GB on my harddrive, inside my iTunes Media Folder.  I don't want to move my entire Library of music and apps etc to the external harddrive (HD), but I rarely watch the TV shows, so wouldn't mind them being located on an external HD, which I would plug in before trying to watch the shows through iTunes?
    Any advice?
    Thanks!

    I don't think you can simultaneously have two libraries open. But you can have your media spread across multiple disk drives. Just change your iTunes preferences such that the option "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" is not selected. That way, new items can remain on your external drive if that's where you add them from.
    The only caution is if you ever add items to your library from some "temporary" location, such as a USB drive. With these preference changes, iTunes would keep the native file on the USB drive, which would possibly lead to you deleting the file and losing the link. So, when you have your preferences to allow you to add new items to iTunes without copying them to the iTunes Music folder, you would want to put the native files in the desired location first, then add to iTunes.
    To move existing videos and podcasts to the external drive, you can either do that as you have been (moving the native files and correcting the ! warning), or simply delete them from the library (but keep the native files) then re-add them from their new location on the external drive (you'd lose play history and ratings though, but may not be an issue for videos and podcasts).

  • When I select a part of a text and click in "Search Google", a new tab is opened. I don't like the switch. I want the search result in a background page.

    When I select a part of a text in a page, use the right button of mouse and click in "Search Google for "the text"", I want a new tab open in a NEW TAB BACKGROUND. How do I set that? Thanks.

    Ok, I found a reply about it in
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/952403
    "hello, its possible to achieve this through the settings in firefox - just enter '''about:config''' into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''browser.search.context.loadInBackground'''. double-click it and change its value to '''true'''. • Is it possible to select a selection?

    I know the question sounds weird but I couldn't think of a better way of describing what I want.
    I'm setting up an Action in which I want to crop a series of images to a selection rectangle. I fool around with the position and size of the selection for several minutes before I'm happy with it, as well as doing several other things. I'd rather not record all that stuff in the action.
    Given that I have a selection in front of me that is the one I want, can I tell the Action: "Now listen here, this is the selection I want you to make". If I record the Action, with the selection active, and then crop to that selection, when I run the Action it says "No selection made."
    So, while recording an Action is it possible to select a selection that is already there?

    Thanks, Willi, for the suggestion. But I couldn't get it to work inside an Action. I recorded Save Selection as part of an action, but of course, it saves the selection to that particular file. When the Action is run on a folder full of images, the Action comes to a halt because the saved selection is only in a certain image, and the Action doesn't know how to access it in an image that is not currently being processed.
    I doubt whether a PS Action can save a selection as part of the action. Probably an oversight on the programmers part. The closest I could get was to record an Insert Menu Item, the menu item being Select All.
    The interesting thing is: the scenario works when recording the Action. I set the selection, then start recording my actions – the crop and save and whatever – and it works. The image is cropped and saved. But when played back as an Action, the settings for that particular selection are not stored in the Action. And they should be. It would be quite easy to record the co-ordinates of the selection as part of the Action (X-Y co-ordinates of the four corners), but PS hasn't been set up to do it – as far as I can tell. The problem would be: the selection would only be valid for images of exactly the same size.

  • Is this possible to select Path nodes....? - Please help!

    Hi Everyone!

    There are other older choices from which to experiment, such as Classilla 9.2.1 browser,
    which is newer than the much older WaMcom mozilla derivative...
    These would all have some issues, and one of them is the lack of correct Java support
    along with any Flash player or other important parts whose update has ceased to happen.
    Classilla:
    http://www.floodgap.com/software/classilla/releases/
    Older browsers, such as very early (Mac OS) Mozilla and Netscape 7 or before may be OK
    if you can find them as downloads; but each will be lacking in some important area. For those
    who may hope to use the email function in some, that may not work. It may in another, if the
    technical specs for email haven't changed too much, or if the Internet provider allows access.
    http://code.google.com/p/classilla/wiki/AAATheFAQ
    MRJ and Flash 7 are supported to some limited extent, from what I've read; but for issues
    including security and performance, it is 'forced-off' and should only be turned on to see if
    a web page supports it, or in known-secure web sites. Classillia should be read into further.
    Some models of older computer hardware predating OS X 10.2 may require a Firmware
    update version to be installed in the older OS9 software, running in the computer, to be
    able to safely consider running 10.2 or later, in the computer. So if you consider that, do
    look into available or necessary firmware updates and install one as needed. Then, to run
    an OS X, the computer may require other hardware updates, more RAM, larger HDD, etc.
    Or be on the look-out for a newer build Macintosh which supports later OS systems; you
    can find info in MacTracker.ca or everymac.com on what hardware supports which OS.
    PS: if your older 'colors' G3 iBook were a 'dual-USB' model (white, 500MHz+) it would be
    able to run up to Panther 10.3.9 and OS 9.2.2, without additional firmware update; limited
    by the size of the hard disk drive, graphic processor, limited RAM upgrade, bus speed, etc.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Using applet to select a part of an image and then save it

    Hi ,
    I want to use applet to select a part of an image and then save that particular selected part to a server. can anyone provide me a code for this. I have found codes on the sun site which help in uploading an image but I am having trouble in trying to select a part of the image.

    Sorry to get back to you so late, but I was away from my computer this afternoon.
    I'm not sure just what you are after. I do see that you have positioned the tree on the labels. I went to the web site for the label company, and their instructions are not too helplful.
    http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=15sBkl9OZE9xSkHoLMxgwjTFv2VCg1
    I changed the white portion of 1 label to black - - this can be any color. To do this use the magic wand tool, tolerance=10 worked for me, then go to Edit>fill selection.
