Is it possible to set GRoup Policy to prevent users manually changing Power Options?

Hello,
We use Dell laptops and there is a very well known issue that certain models freeze when they are docked.
I have adjusted the power settings under high performance plan, and updated this in the group policy, which I have tested and is all fine.
Basically, on the laptops now, the users can still change it from the GPO plan to balanced or power saver if they want to.
Is there a way of setting group policy so the other power options are greyed out or cannot be used?
Thanks!

Hi!
If the user is a local administrator on the client they will be able to change the plans. (They changes will be reverted when logging off though)
But if they are standard users, it should be grayed out already.
Check this link for more information, if there is a step that you might have missed when configuring the GPO. (Three pages/Parts)

  • Use Group Policy to prevent other network connections

I need to define a Group Policy which says that IF a user is in the companys Domain network that no other connections are avaiable. So if the user is not connected to the Domain network he should be able to connect to any network he wants.
Are there any possible solutions to this?
    Best regards.

    Hi,
    >>Use Group Policy to prevent other network connections
As far as I know, group policy can’t help us do this. However, when a user is in the company and there is just domain network, he or she may not be able to connect to other
    network.

  • Need help in setting up Group Policy for same user in local system and Terminal server

    Hi All,
Currently our remote users are using our network using VPN client over internet.
They are generally at their home computer and doing VPN as they have to work only in one RDP server for application.
We actually have a OU created for these RDP users and assign then some strict policy like they can not use any other .exe, they can not user any explorer ,they can not even use windows explorer when they are on RDP they just use one exe of their application.
Now what my management want is they want their home computers in Domain and want them to login via their same credentials they are using for RDP but they don't want them to restrict in their home computers with any strict policy.
Now my confusion is how can I configure different policies for same users or same OU.
Can any one guide me please...

you can achieve this fairly easily with group policy.
create an OU and put your remote desktop servers in that OU.
configure both user and computer policies in a group policy and link it to that ou.
you need to enable loopback mode - you may want it in merge or replace depending on your other policies you have. Probably replace though I would guess. this is set in the computer configuration > admin templates > system / group policy section.
now remove the policy you have currently setup for your users on the users OU containing the rdp users. If you want you can move these users back to your main users OU.
when your users login to the RDP server the settings in the user section of the GPO linked to the RDP Servers OU will apply.
when the user logs in to their own computer the policies from the user OU and computer OU will apply - but not the more restrictive RDP OU.
    hope that makes sense.

  • Set group policy by computers

I'm trying to separate computers by location so I've moved computers from the Computer Container to several OU's in the AD that have the name of each location. Now I'm trying to get a group policy to apply to each OU. How do I do that? Thanks in advance!

First, if you have AD sites configured with subnets correctly in Active Directory Site And Services, you can assign GPO to AD site.
If you have OU's configured already by locations, open GPMC.MSC, right click the relevant OU and choose LINK AN EXISTING GPO to each OU with the relevant GPO.
    This might help you:

  • Applying custom Group policy to existing users using group policy

    Hello Everyone,
i am unable to find a way to push a custom theme to client PC using group policy.
I have tried "Load a Specific Theme" Group Policy but it is only applying to a new user logging on windows.
I have a custom theme that i want it to load to every existing user's machine.
Is there any way to do it using GPO??

Apply theme group policy does not work. Known issue.
    I use a vb script,
'@SLH // This Script applies the Themepack "
    On Error Resume Next
    Select Case themeApplied
    Case "yes"
'Has been set once before, nothing happens!
    Case Else
'Has not been set before, Company theme is applied
    strRegistryKey = readfromRegistry("HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\General\WallpaperSource", "C:\Windows\web\wallpaper\Windows\img0.jpg")
    End Select
    Function readFromRegistry (strRegistryKey, strDefault )
    Dim WshShell, value
    Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
    value = WshShell.RegRead( strRegistryKey )
    if strDefault = value then
    'Write key in registry
    WshShell.RegWrite "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes\themeApplied", "yes", "REG_SZ"
    'Applying theme from server
'Remember to change the path tothe location of your .themepack file
    WshShell.Run "rundll32.exe %SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL %SystemRoot%\system32\desk.cpl desk,@Themes /Action:OpenTheme /file:""\\seraddressto\ Default.themepack"""
    WScript.Sleep 1000
    WshShell.AppActivate("Desktop Properties")
    WshShell.Sendkeys "%{F4}"
    end if
    End Function
I then run this in a run once script when the user first logs in, this sets the theme once on new profile generation.

  • OU Group Policy over-riding User Group Policy

I'm using ZfD 4.01 ir7 and have a restrictive Group Policy applied at the

  • Is it possible to set table-variant from one user to another one?

Is it possible to set table-variants from a t-code like fb60 from one user to another one?
I mean that both user have the same table-variants.

You mean screen variant, where you will need to anter the GL line items in FB50?
then you can set your desired variant as DEFAULT for all users, when it is configured.
Else thru SU10, for all of your users, add parameter ID SCRVAR and give your parameter value (screen variant name) and SAVE.

  • Is it possible to prevent users from changing iPad background?

I am currently helping deploy 130 iPads for a school using Apple Configurator. I have set the desired wallpaper and lockscreen text via Apple Configurator, however this can easily be removed if a user decides to change the lockscreen wallpaper. Is there any way to set a restriction that would prevent a user from changing the lockscreen wallpaper? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for the help in advance!

I heard that with iOS6 MDMs could have the ability to remotely change the wallpaper and lockscreen OTA. So far Airwatch is the only one I've heard of that claims to be able to do it:

I hope other MDM's adopt this. It sure would be nice to be able to do this from an MDM.

  • Is there a way to create a new user template so I don't I have to set each policy for new users in control panel?

I want conferencing, mobility, remote access, etc., to be automatically set to a defined policy so when I create a user, I don't have to go down the list to change the default from automatic to my custom policy.  I don't want to edit the global

Agree with Georg, you can do that using Powershell

  • Use Group Policy to disable user interface items and shortcut keys in IE

    Hi,
We are creating a kiosk mode of IE with full restriction to the machines drives and other applications. For that we need to disable all the shortcuts keys like ctrl, shift, alt and combination of these keys. Can anyone help me on this. i want to done this
through GPO. Client machines are windows 7 and we are having windows server 2008 R2 (AD server).
    Thanks,
    UdayaKumar S

I need to disable the ctrl, Alt, and shift keys and combinations of these keys with other keys as for example, cltrl+H, Ctrl+o, ets., and most important thing is, we need to apply it only through GPO not by using any other tools/ applications.
I'm not aware of any GPO-only methods to achieve your goal (hence my other suggestions), sorry.
Others might comment here with their thoughts/suggestions/experiences..

  • Remove the "Safety" tab from IE 11 tools with group policy

Is there any way to remove the "Safety" tab or it's contents from the
tools button in the upper right hand corner of IE 11 with Group Policy 2008 r2. I am using a GPMC on a windows 8.1 computer running IE 11. All of the computers we manage are Windows 7 pro running IE 10 or IE 11. The computers I am trying to remove the "Safety"
from are used as library catalog computers. We have them pretty well locked down with group policy and a squid server. I just need to remove the "Safety" or the contents in it. I would love to remove the "Tools" all together but haven't
    found a way.
I thought maybe I could use the "Force Full Screen" but need a back, forward
    and home button.

    Hi,
There is no method to remove this button.
If no, like that thread, firewall and proxy could meet your requirement.

For Proxy, you could use this group policy to disable user to change connection setting. Navigate to
    Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer
Find the following entry and enable it.
    disable changing connection settings
Then don't grant admin permission to other user so that they cannot do any changing on computer.

  • The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows attempted to read the file...

    Hello all-
I am currently trying to configure group policy (specifically folder redirects) from a new Windows Server 2008 in my home... the server acts as both an AD DS and file server for 4 client computers, all running Windows Vista Ultimate.
Here are the steps I am currently taking:
I create a new Group Policy called All Users and Computers and apply it to the All Users and Computers OU, which contains exactly what it says (all users and computers in the domain).
    I verify that a new folder was created in \\<FQDN>\sysvol\<FQDN>\Policies.  The new folder created is named {6479C8E0-3134-4B4F-B047-7ADD51684684}
I change the GPO Enforced setting to Enforced.
I attempt to use the gpupdate command to see if the group policy can be updated successfully.  In a command prompt, I type gpupdate <enter>.  I receive the message 'Updating Policy...' then after about 15 seconds the message 'User Policy update has completed successfully.'
I keep the cmd window open.  After about 10 seconds another message apperas which says "Computer policy could not be updated successfully.  The following errors were encountered: The processing of Group Policy failed.  Windows attempted to read the file \\<FQDN>\sysvol\<FQDN>\Policies\{6AC1786C-016F-11D2-945F-00C04Fb984F9}\gpt.ini from a domain controller and was not successful.  Group Policy settings may not be applied until this event is resolved. This issue may be transient and could be caused by one or more of the following:
    a) Name Resolution/Network Connectivity to the current domain controller.
    b) File Replication Service Latency (a file created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller).
    c) The Distributed File System (DFS) client has been disabled.
To diagnose the failure, review the event log or invoke gpmc.msc to access information about Group Policy results."
I confirm that the error code is #3 using the Event Log, "The system cannot find the file specificed"
Of course the system cannot find the file specified because the folder does not exist in the sysvol folder. I am wondering why Windows is trying to read from this location when it does not exist, and is not the new group policy I created!  I have no other group policies linked or enforced to any other OU/Domain/etc.  Any help resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hello all and thanks for the help.  First a few things:
I understand that the DC should not be running RRAS, but this a simple server being used in aa home environment by 4 users and getting another server just for RRAS would be overkill.
Secondly, I currently have it so that while the router is handling DHCP, I have reserved a fixed IP for the server, so it always has 192.168.1.100.  If I were to use the server as the DHCP, what would my hardware configuration have to look like?  I currently have the router plugged into the ISP modem, and then server plugged into the router.  All other clients connect to the router wirelessly.
Here's the dcdiag output.  I tried dcdiag /fix but to no avail.

  • Group Policy - Issues deploying software packages through GPO

    Hello everyone,
I am having issues successfully deploying MSI packages through group policy.  I have set my computer account up in its own test OU in my domain, but yet the software will not deploy.  Example, I'm trying to deploy AVG Anti-Virus and make sure it
is installed on each and every PC in my domain.  As for the GPO, I set it up as an assigned package and pointed to the location of the package with the UNC file path (visible to both the DC and my computer that is part of the affected OU)
On the domain controller, I get these messages in application event logs:
Beginning a Windows Installer transaction: \\hs-dc2\software\avg\installavg.msi. Client Process Id: 9048.
Ending a Windows Installer transaction: \\hs-dc2\software\avg\installavg.msi. Client Process Id: 9048.
This shows up when I refresh GP on my computer.  I run gpresult /h GPReport.html and get the following message:
Software Installation failed due to the error listed below.
    Fatal error during installation.
Additional information may have been logged. Review the Policy Events tab in the console or the application event log for events between
The software is in a share on the domain controller that is visible from my computer, and permissions are set where "Everyone" has read access.  I have tested the package on my computer and it installs
correctly if I do it manually, so it's a good package.
I'm at a loss.  I am admitedly very new to GP management, but I'm pretty sure I have covered all my bases here.  I humbly ask for any and all help that you all can provide.
Thank you all very much, have a great weekend!

    > Magnolia_Schools.exe
    What's that???
    > \\hs-dc2\software\avg\installavg.msi
    > <file://\\hs-dc2\software\avg\installavg.msi> /qb addeploy=1
    /qb ADDEPLOY=1
    Uppercase matters (:
A bissle "Experience", a bissle GMV... Wenn meine Antwort hilfreich war, freue ich mich über eine Bewertung! If my answer was helpful, I'm glad about a rating!
I should have explained, my apologies.  The InstallAVG.msi is the package I have GP deploying.  it is a package that AVG wrote for us that goes in, uninstalls the two previous antivirus softwares we have on our network if it is present, and
then wraps it to run magnolia_schools.exe which installs the AV software.  I am uninstalling AVG now and will try reinstalling with
    \\hs-dc2\software\avg\installavg.msi /qb ADDEPLOY=1 and report back.
also, the only logs I found that were around the time of the install attempt were such as these:
    1: 2905 2: C:\windows\system32\appmgmt\MACHINE\{06ee0d46-cd5f-4216-a09f-2aeb573aa5ba}.aas
    1: 2905 2: C:\windows\system32\appmgmt\MACHINE\{06ee0d46-cd5f-4216-a09f-2aeb573aa5ba}.aas
    Does that tell you anything?
I will say this, if this means anything...now that AVG is installed, the event logs are changing from an error %%1603 to this:
Failed to apply changes to software installation settings. The installation of software deployed through Group Policy for this user has been delayed until the next logon because the changes must be applied before the user logon. The error was : %%1274
The removal of the assignment of application exe2msiSetupPackage from policy Install AVG failed. The error was : %%2
So it acts like it's at least seeing that the package is installed...and reacting differently, correct?
    Thanks so much

  • Group policy - 'install pending - reboot required'

I have deployed software using GPO - Computer Configuration - Assigned software.  This has worked with flying colors for most computers on our domain - all running Windows 7 x86.  Only a select few computers have failed to get this software installed.
When I checked RSOP.msc, I get a message that the install is pending and awaiting reboot.  These machines have rebooted many times and yet the same message appears on RSOP and the software has yet to actually install.
Where is it getting hung up?  Is there some sort of install cache that I can clear on the PC so GPO will try to send the install from scratch?
We have tried several things to try to isolate variables:
Tried gpupdate /force - I am prompted to reboot, and when I do so the software does not install
Checked GP Result - shows that this software install policy was "applied" to the computer, yet it isn't installed
Checked RSOP.msc, I get a message that the install is pending and awaiting reboot - reboots do not resolve this
Added permissions for "everyone" at the distribution point NTFS and share (I doubt it's permissions anyway since installs were successful on most computers before we added more permissions)
Tried adding a Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/System/Group Policy/Startup policy processing wait time - 20 seconds (I tried this after reading this forum question -
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverGP/thread/2a2175bf-132f-46c2-bc5a-4c67932141e2/)
Furthermore, every test I try to manufacture grabs the GPO and installs the software with success.  The only machines that fail are machines that aren't easy for me to access as people are using them during the workday.
I have grabbed the event viewer information for a failing PC "WOLF", these events show every time after logon as well:

    > TeamViewer 6 MSI PDX failed. The error was : %%1274
Not really an error - more an information. Results from a "gpupdate" and
    means "reboot now, please".
    > from policy TeamViewer 6 MSI PDX failed. The error was : %%2
File not found. That's odd... May need further investigation.
    > before the user logon. The error was : %%1274
    See above - reboot required.
You may activate appmgmt debug logging and then post the resulting log
    file: In HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Diagnostics,
set AppmgmtDebugLevel (REG_DWORD) to 0x9b and examine
    %windir%\debug\usermode\appmgmt.log after the next reboot.
If no other solution, you may try to cleanup the appmgmt history key so
that all SW deployment GPOs will be processed again: Rename
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Group Policy\AppMgmt and
    recreate empty.
    sincerely, Martin
