Is it possible to set IN/OUT points for video effects within a single clip in PE4?

Hello,
In PE4, Is it possible to use keyframes to simply turn certain video effects on/off at different points within a single clip ?
Some effects (i.e. Invert)have a Blend With Original setting which makes this easy to achieve, but others (i.e. Ripple)do not.
I understand how to use keyframes to adjust effect properties at different points within a clip, I just can't find a way to simply 'turn-off' or bypass an effect for a period of time.
Thanks All, CB

Chris,
As Steve points out, most Effects are OFF, by default (usually setting their parameters to 0). I just add a Keyframe for that Effect, with those properties, where you want the Effect to be OFF (but check that each Effect that you use starts as OFF, just to be sure). Then, in between the OFF settings, I add Keyframes with the desired parameters to invoke that particular Effect.
One can also use the Razor/Sissors to cut the Clip into segments (just do not move them) to keep the Keyframes in one area of the original Clip. I usually work on the entire Clip, as once the Keyframe is set to OFF for that Effect, no more Keyframes are needed.
Some Effects also have a Bypass setting, that can be Keyframed (in P Pro, and assume in PE). This can be handy to fully turn OFF any Effect. Note: even in P Pro, not all Effects have a Bypass setting.
As usual with PE (and P-Pro and PS), there can be a couple of ways to accomplish the same thing. One can choose the method that suits them best.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • How to set the out point beyond 9.95 seconds???

how to set the out point  in Motion 5 beyond 9.95 seconds???

First you need to make sure your project is long enough then you can adjust the play range (in/out). To make sure the project is long enough:
    1. From the project properties (command-J) go to the Duration field and enter a new duration.
    2. Click on the down arrow icon to the right of the current time, there is an option to show the project duration. Once set to this you can double click the number and type in a new project duration. I'd recommend setting it back to show current time when done.
    3. Of course you can also change the duration of a project when it is first created, in the project browser.
Once you're sure you have a long enough project you can adjust the in and out range.  You then use the zoom controls in the bottom of the timeline to show more of the timeline and adjust the play range as needed. There's lots more about project and play range duration adjustments in the documentation: http://help.apple.com/motion/mac/5.1/

  • Can't set in/out points on timeline

Hello there. I have just downloaded the trial version of Premiere Elements 12, which looks like it might have everything I want in a video editor except... it doesn't seem to have ability to set In/Out points (no button exists and  hitting I/O has no affect, despite being on their list of keyboard  shortcuts). I'm clearly not doing something right. Not being able to  edit quickly via I/O/X feels like being in a car without a steering  wheel. Please help!!

    L Prickitt
I have already pointed out to you the Premiere Elements 12 ways to trim clips in Expert and Quick - including the Expert workspace Project Assets double click of file thumbnail there to bring up the Preview Window as well as the Quick workspace maneuvers.
I have observed that the I and O shortcuts work only after the Preview Windows is evoked in Expert workspace by double clicking the file in either Project Assets or on the Timeline. There are different considerations when Preview Windows is used and brought up in those two different ways - from Project Assets vs Timeline. You really do want to be double clicking the file in Expert workspace Project Assets to bring up the Preview Window for your trims.
However, whether in Expert (Timeline) or Quick workspace (Filmstrip), you can drag the edges of the clip to get a trim.
Your recent post (4) defines what you want to do.
    - Drop video, sound and voice over clips onto the timeline (either with a mouse or shortcut keys)
    - In the timeline trim the clips most effeciently (for me, anyway) by marking an In Point (by clicking on the I key) and then an Out Point (by clicking on the O key), then deleting the clip (by clicking on X or delete key).
I would ask this. You cite prior experience in what you want to do. What program did you use - was it other than some version of Premiere Elements?
I cannot see what you want to be done in Premiere Elements without bringing up and using the Preview Window which may be taking away the quick style that you described for getting this task done. Again, you cannot use I and O as you cite in the absence of the Preview Window.
Please consider. Knowing the program that you worked with previously would help in the understanding on my side. I have looked at prior versions of Premiere Elements and cannot see what you describe. So, I want to be sure I am not overlooking something.
We will be watching for further information in the hope that we can put together some sort of compromise workflow.
    Thank you.

  • Keyboard shortcuts to set in/out points?

I've been using FCP for a while, but lately have been teaching iMovie HD at our local cable access studio. I'm very impressed with what iMovie can do now, with one glaring problem - setting in/out points. I'm used to playing through my video, and when I get to a point I want I'll click "i" or "o" to set the points.
In iMovie the only way (near as I can tell) to set in/out points is by scrubbing the markers which confuses everyone and takes far too long. It's a very strange feature not to have an obvious keyboard equivalent to.
Is there any way to set in/out points via the keyboard?

There's a list of iMovie keyboard shortcuts under 'Help' on the top-line menu: it's "iMovie HD Keyboard Shortcuts".
But iMovie doesn't work on In and Out points selected from a longer clip, in the way that Final Cut Express and Final Cut Pro do.
It was originally envisaged that iMovie, as a simple editor, just lets you cut and join clips, with optional Transitions, Effects, etc.
There are Crop Markers which can be used: just put your cursor beneath the blue(?) Playhead line, just under the playback window, and a pair of triangular crop markers will appear. If they don't - just hover for a moment at the extreme left just beneath the playback window.
The crop markers can then be dragged to any positions, and Apple ('Command')+K will then crop that selected video section. This can be undone with Apple+Z.
The crop markers can be dragged anywhere, or you can click on one and use the usual keyboard shortcuts of left and right cursor key to move one a frame at a time, or Shift+left/right cursor key to jump 10 frames at a time.
It wasn't originally anticipated, with iMovie, that people would import longer sections of video than needed (..unlike professional shooting and capture..) and then choose just briefer sections within those long clips. The thinking behind iMovie was "cut out and throw away", not "identify shorter section and use that, while secretly retaining full duration of original clip".
It's only with the current iMovie 5/HD that the background handling of clips now approaches FCE and FCP, giving reliable "non-destructive trimming", so that crop markers can be used to set 'wanted' sections, and other sections remain behind invisibly, in a robust Trash can, "..just in case".
You can 'Split video at Playhead' (Apple+T) ..which is what I generally use for editing, but you have to manually drag crop markers to where you want them. It's a historical thing.
You're really asking for a shortcut to set a crop marker to the Playhead position. Why not use Feedback to ask for one in the next version?
But sorry; I don't know of any keyboard shortcuts to do what you want.
    Maybe someone else does, though..

  • Is it possible to set an opening date for a password protected file

Is it possible to set an opening date for a password protected file!
I want to lock a folder and then have it open on a perticular date not just open with a password so that i am not tempted to open it. Is it possible?

Yes. Go to the Settings app, and select safari. There will be a section called "Autofill", and you can enable it to save your passwords and auto-fill your personal information taken from the address book. Also, iOS automatically saves all Wi-Fi passwords, so there is no need to save it manually yourself.

  • How to set a change pointer for a perticular table?

    Hi,
Please let me know how to set a change pointer for a perticular table.

what do you mean by 'change pointer'? normally this idiom is used for sending ÍDOCs from one system/client/org-unit to another ...
do you generally want to record changes to a specific table? then set parameter rec/client using RZ10 for your instance profiles and restart the instances in order for the parameter to take effect.
set the table to 'record all changes' using SE11.
you might re-consider if the table has a lot of  data and is accessed very often for performance-resons.
change protocols can be evaluated using tx, SCU3.

  • XDCAM EX workflow...selective import?  Is there a way to browse, set in & out point of file

With FCP we were able to browse/perview the files on the SXS cards, set in and out point, then ingest it.  I hae not found a way other than importing everything in Premiere.  I just want to inport the usable footage as to not clog up my scratch disk with junk I will never use.  Is there a way to brose before import and choose??

That depends. When you trimmed the clips with XDCAM Browser, what output format did you use? If it's an encapsulated file format--meaning all the media and metadata is in one file--you can do that using any file renaming utility. Even something like Adobe Bridge will let you do this with the Batch Rename feature.
However, if you went back to, say, an XDCAM-EX structure, you probably shouldn't do that. The reason is that the format support in Premiere Pro is pretty specific when it comes to the folder structure and file naming conventions used by each particular. That said, Pr is usually OK with XDCAM-EX files when you pull them out of the structure; you'd lose information like timecode and any clip metadata, but you can then go ahead and rename the files. It would be theoretically possibly to use XDCAM Browser to add this information as metadata, though; I guess you'd have to find out if that's a suitable solution, or if it has to be associated with the file names themselves.
Incidentally, are you on a Mac or PC with your Pr installation? If you're on a Mac, you could continue to use FCP to Log and Transfer the files to MOV (or use this option in XDCAM Browser, if it exists--I don't recall), and then rename those files at will. So long as you have FCP installed on the same machine, Pr will allow you to import the XDCAM-EX MOVs. Of course, you're not working with Pr's native 64-bit importers at that point, so you need to pick what is most important to your workflows.

  • CS6: exporting "range of time markers" without setting in-/out point or defining working area?

    Hi,
in CS6 I defined several "range of time markers" to get a better overview of my project. Now I want to export each range as a single video.
The only way to do this is  creating in-/out points  or setting the working area (what is the English translation for "Arbeitsbereichsleiste" (German)...?)?
Or is it possible to define this selections via the previous created range of time markers? That would be the easiest way...
    Thanks, Carlos

For exporting chunks of the Timeline, I set a Work Area and then export. If you want to export between markers, that would be a feature request: http://www.adobe.com/go/wish

  • Setting an out point on a clip

When setting an in point on a clip and you hit "+" it appears as if you can advance the cursor to a specific time when you type in a value, but I can't seem to make it work. Does anyone know how?

hmmm, in the event bowser it does not work for me either, hitting the minus key moves the out point back, but hitting the plus key appears not to move either the CTI or either the in or out points.
A work around that uses the same idea and number of keystrokes.
Set an in point and then using the ctrl d function set the duration this allows you to create a clip of an exact duration.

  • Simple question - set in & out points

I have a LONG MP3 file that I need to pull specific parts out & save them as separate MP3s.
How do I set the in & out points and export using Garageband?
I'm assuming I would just position the in & out points at the beginning/end of the audio I want to export, choose "export" (or something) & it would write that portion of the master track to a new MP3...BUT I can't even see any place to create or move in & out markers.
...at least, this is how I would do it in Cubase. Does it work this way in Garageband?

Hangtime is right, though this does require decoding and then recoding after editing. You could look at 'MP3 Trimmer':
    http://www.deepniner.net/mp3trimmer/
which can top and tail the existing MP3 file and save the result out. It is $10.95.

  • Set in/out points on footage items from a script.

As the title says, I'm trying to figure out how to set the in and out points of a footage item from a script. For layers this is pretty straightforward since they have an inPoint and outPoint property, but I couldn't find a similar property or method on footage items. Does anyone know a way to do this?

Do you mean like you can do in the Footage window? I don't think that functionality is accessible to scripting.

  • Setting In and Out Points for Render

    Hi everyone!
I was wondering how to tell color to only render from and in and out point, instead of rendering for a whole clip. In FCP I take a ten minute capture, then break it up into sub-clips for each shot, and then edit some of these sub-clips into my video.
When some of these sub-clips require correction in Color the sequence gets sent to color just fine, but when it renders my changes it renders it to the whole clip that the sub-clip came from. This takes too much time because I only need the sub-clip to be rendered, not the whole clip, because that's all I use in my video.
How can I fix this extra rendering? Thanks in advance!

I think that you might find the answer to your question on this link below.

  • Sliding audio IN/OUT point in smaller increments than a single frame.

    Hello there...
I saw this work-flow on the forum a while ago, and i've searched the archives but can't remember what the original thread was about/titled...
I am having to cut a lengthy interview down, removing 'ummm's and generally cutting out individual words... you know the score...
I have one word I really can't get a clean cut on. The playhead rests just before or just after the moment the next word comes in... there IS a tiny gap on the audio waveform... i just can't get the playhead on it...
The solution i saw here by the one-and-only Shane Ross involved double-clicking to send it to viewer, then holding down <shift> and sliding the... the what? the playhead? the OUT point marker...
I've been fiddling for a while now, and can't get it right... grrr!
Shane (or anyone else!)... can you advise me?

but i don;t think you want to really slip the audio unless it is truly out of sync with the video ... in your case you probably just want to zoom right in on the timeline and edit the audio level to mute as required. audio keyframes can be placed and edited at up to 1/100th frame intervals

  • Is it possible to set a minimum height for a DIV container?

    Hello fellow developers,
I wonder if it is possible to set a minimum height or a fixed height for a DIV container (P container, SPAN conrainer) like in HTML?
    Thank you!

    Thank you, Robin!
But is it somehow possible to reserve a portion of space in the text flow so that later I can put a movie clip over this open space?
(In HTML I would create a fixed dimension DIV element for this purpose and add its contents later.)
