Is it possible to set up a split audio track....

...while recording and create 2 channels with their own effects settings. I have a Tascam US-122MKII audio interface. If one guitar is plugged into LEFT channel and one into RIGHT channel, can they be split up while recording? I don't quite know if the TASCAM allows for this I'm not seeing anything in the manual and don't see wether LOGIC is capable of doing that? The idea is to record 2 guitars at once but split up the stereo into seperat tracks and then add effects so that each player has a different sound. The TASCAM allows 2 intruments ie: voice/guitar,or right and left XLR input but so far everything is imported to 1 stereo track...Any ideas on wether it's possible? Thanks everyone.

Hi
What I'm saying is:
Make a new MONO audio track (use the + button). Assign it to input 1
Make a second new MONO track, assign it to input 2
Name both tracks, record-enable both tracks, and record.
You could, of course, make both tracks in one go via the new track dialog box, and hav ethem automatically assigned to ascending inputs.

• Split audio tracks come back in as still stereo??

Zoom recorded audio track. Two interleaved tracks. One side voice, the other side guitar. The track comes in as a stereo track. I export out the track as 'split'. The exported result is two separate mono files. One file is voice, the other file is guitar. So far, so good.
I bring the two separate mono tracks BACK into Logic ... and EACH ONE is still a stereo track with the voice and guitar on left and right respectively.
I'm trying to figure out why Logic is doing this ... and what click I am missing that is causing it.
All ears,
Ben

If the Logic 'mono' files are in the same folder - when I bring them into Logic, Logic somehow turns them back into stereo (no matter which I bring in, left or right). If I take the Logic created mono files and re-export them with Quicktime 7, then they come into Logic as separate 'mono' files.
If I separate the two mono files into different folders, then bring them in one at a time, they come in as separate 'mono' files. When they are in the same folder, no such luck, they come in as two 'stereo' files, even though they SAY 'mono'.
So Logic has some kind of unusual protocol where it somehow reads a split mono file as the original unsplit stereo file (if both files come from the same folder).
Is there a way to alter this protocol??? I'm getting the 'logic' of why Logic does this.

• Record desktop with split audio tracks?

Is there some program that can record the desktop, as well as multiple audio channels? I need to keep the audio channels split, so I can later individually mute them and edit them when I need to.
If there is no such application available for Linux, I guess the only option would be to record the audio separately. Feel free to suggest audio recording applications able to record multiple channels too. I'd prefer to have just one application handling both video and audio though, as that prevents any potential syncing issues.
Thanks in advance!

Presuming you have your audio devices configured as separate streams (be they jack, alsa or pulse) you can use ffmpeg via the command line to record desktop using the x11grab input source and then route as many audio tracks as you desire. Check the ffmpeg wiki for more. Googlefu applies. Let me know if you need help with more direct information.

• How to split audio tracks into left and right channels as we do in FCP or Avid needed for dubbing?

We are recording in two languages, one in left and the other in right channel. However, in Adobe Premiere Pro we are not able to split the track when we take up for rought cut. Both the tracks are found mixed. Pl help. Since we need to maintian the split track to dubb into other languages.

You need to do this before adding the footage to the sequence:
Select the clip (or multiple clips) in the bin
Menu > Clip > Modify > Audio Channels (Shift G)
Change 'Number of Audio Tracks' to 2
Change 'Channel Format' to Mono
Dismiss the info message.
When you place the clip in a sequence it will now drop L and R into separate tracks (assuming your sequence allows that audio model).

• Channel strip plugin setting attaches to all audio tracks -- why

Hi all, an interesting thing happened today. Put down bass/drum/rhythm guitar trax. Rhythm guitar used a NI Guitar Rig 3 plugin -- a Vox amp with spring reverb.
So far, all is well.
Then I create a new audio track, for the lead guitar. Much to my surprise, it took on the settings of the rhythm guitar track -- the NI GR3 Vox amp with spring reverb.
I tried clearing the channel trip settings. I tried bypassing the plugin in the rhythm track. I created new audio tracks.
All to no avail -- all audio tracks retained the settings of that first track, that is Vox with reverb.
I finalyl created a new project and moved my tracks over. All is fine now, but does anyone know what might have caused that? And how to avoid in future?
I really enjoy Logic, but I have to wrestle with fear every time I open it -- a "what the f's gonna go wrong this time?" sorta feeling. I've started pricing out Pro Tools systems to be honest...

It sounds like you don't understand the concept of Logic - tracks and track objects.
You can have for instance twenty tracks, all set to an Audio Channel 1 object. The tracks themselves are independent, but all audio plays through that Audio Channel 1. This is great for, for eaxmple, comping up a vocal part. Note that audio channels are themselves monophonic, so you can have only one audio region playing at any one time.
This is different to independant arrange tracks that play through different audio channels..
So when you hit your "next track" key command, make sure you are using "Create Track with next object", and not "Create Track". Create Track just creates a new arrange track assigned to the same track object. The other one creates a new arrange track and assigns the next track object, so everything's fully independent.
This is a complexity in Logic that other DAWs don't have, but it's a great feature once you get your head around it. One reason I like Logic over other DAWs.
So arrange tracks and audio channels are not inextricably linked, as they are in other DAWs.

• Splitting audio track

I want to split an audio track in iMovie 09, and then move the end piece of the audio split to another section of my video. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks.

I did think of that, but in trying it, the tracks overlap each other, and it's hard to figure out which track is which. I can see both as green lines above and below the movie frames, but can't select the added one--only the original will highlight. In clip trimmer, I can't tell one track from another.
I haven't used GarageBand, just looked at it, and at first glance, don't see an easy way to open an iTunes tune, clip out 6 seconds I want, save it, and add to my iMovie.
My goal is just to take a small slice of the music and add it to the closing of the movie. In Photo to Movie, it's real easy to clip the audio (I'm creating movies from stills, and dropping movies once I go to iMovie) so maybe I should stick to using P to M for music purposes. But I'll take a look at the tutorial you mention. Thanks much.

• Setting button to play audio track

Hi,
I have not been able to find a solution to this problem, I thought someone might know of the correct way to go about it.
I have created a menu in DVD studio pro which lists 19 different options (in this case they are 19 different pieces of music). What I want is for the user to select a track, hit play, and have the track play whilst the menu stays onscreen. Is this possible?
Thanks
Jack

But, every DVD needs to have at least one video track to play properly. Why not add the menu image to a track which has the audio set in it. From your normal menu, set the buttons to target a marker at the start of each different audio section and set an end jump on the marker to go back to the menu. You could set the menu call to a small script which checks SPRM7 and returns to the menu on the appropriate button as well.
That way a user can see the screen and listen to the audio and have a DVD with a track...

• Garageband won't split audio track?

For some reason the split transition in the edit list is not functioning properly. Has anyone else dealt with this issue? It was working just fine towards the beginning of the audio file, but now, nothing.
Thanks,
R

"not functioning properly" doesn't really tell us anything at all (kind of like "My car was working a couple of days ago, now it's not working right. Do you know what's wrong?")
Give us a step by step of what you're doing, and what's happening/what you're seeing, including defining what "not functioning properly" means. With some luck, someone will have an idea for you.

• Anyway to split audio track?

Is there anyway to split an audio clip.
A voiceover, so to speak. Like splitting a video clip?
never mind. I found it... thanks.

curious what your solution was as I am just beginning to cut something

• Splitting audio tracks

ok, so i have a vocal track, and the friend of mine who did it said some pretty vile things (and trust me, when i say vile, i mean viiiiiiiiiiiile! haha) so what id like to do is go in and cut out the small pieces of audio where those lovely words rest and then twist them up or reverse them as to make them illegible.
i would just have him come in and do another take, but i have a feeling this is a once in a lifetime thing and i could probly never pull that out of him again. lol, so any advice is much appreciated!
all the best!
p&L

Select the scissors tool, go to the beginning of the offending region and cut there; the same at the end.
Change yout tool to arrow and double click on the segment that you created: that shoul open the audio editor.
Select all the waveform and, under the Functions menu, choose Reverse (not Inverse!).
cheers

• Any way to split audio tracks in iMovie 09?

The only way I know how to shorten an audio clip (after all the video clips are there) is by changing the duration of the clip in the inspector. This can be rather laborious, trying to guesstimate the point at which you want the music to end. Anyone knows of a more efficient way?

Convert the Trailer to a standard project. You may then be able to edit the title or replace the title with one more suited to what you wish to apply. To convert the Trailer, in iMovie's menu select File>Convert to Project. Now you can edit virtually any part of the converted Trailer, but be careful to maintain the duration - otherwise the video will not match up perfectly with the supplied audio track.

• Split audio tracks between speakers

I'm trying to develop a dichotic listening task where separate tracks are played through each speaker which are listened to at the same time. I need help! Do I use Premiere or Audition and if so, how?

Thank you. I played around with this all day and found the problem was bringing the track (its a person saying a list of words) in as mono it only displayed on the one speaker. I figured it out in Audition (it doesn't have a video track) but it is cumbersome because I have to open the track in the waveform, copy and paste it into both speakers, then delete one or the other speaker tracks in order to push one to the left and one to the right. It is for a research project I am doing. Next step is to match the different words so they start and stop at the same time! thanks again.

• Hi I have two questions. I am using NAS 4.1 and was wondering is it possible to set a different session timeout for different users? How is the session timeout set? Thanks, YS

I am using NAS 4.1 and was wondering is it possible to set a different session timeout for different users?
Um, there is no such thing as NAS4.1.
I'm assuming that you mean NAS4.0 (maybe NAS4.0sp1?). If so, then the session timeouts are specified in the session section of the NTV configuration files.
AFAIK, you can specify session timeouts on a per user basis.

• Is it possible to set up multiple iTunes accounts on a single computer?

is it possible to set up multiple iTunes accounts on a single computer?

If you do it with a single user account, you will receive update notifications for purchase made on both IDs regardless of which one you're using at the time. That's slightly frustrating as you get the notification BUT you can't actually update! In any event, separate user accounts on the computer is the cleaner way to go.
