Is it possible to shoot directly on OnLocation?

I'm shooting my videos on a DSLR. I don't have a LiveView-display, only a Mac.
Can I, while shooting, use the Mac somehow as a LiveView-display? So that the stuff which I see on the display of my Canon EOS 550D can be shown on my Mac at the same time? That would solve all of my problems.

There are two basic requirements that must be met. The camera must either output live video via FireWire (which will allow you to record HD in the M2T format) or an analog video output must be externally digitized via an AD converter (such as one of the Grass Valley Canopus ADVC units) which, by the way limits you to SD video (for preview purposes that may suffice). AND the Mac needs to have a FireWire input, either built-in or via a converter such as are available on PC or Express cards.

Go to Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse -> Mouse
And edit your mouse settings to do what you want it to do.

Third, from my understanding, it would appear you are concerned about the noise the hard drive makes when it falls asleep? Why not put your machine in screen saver mode instead? Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Energy Saver turn off all Energy Saver settings, or set them to run Never.
Fourth, if your machine was purchased just a few days ago, you may still be able to get an exchange from the store, quicker than you can get a repair done. You may want to look into that possibility.
Fifth, it does appear you found the Logic forum. I would persist in asking there how to solve your technical issue with Logic regarding the audio. It may be you don't have to do anything special to the hard drive. Remember audio can be transmitted by wire, avoiding ambient sounds.

Tethered shooting directly into Lightroom.

The way I currently import my photos into lightroom is via compact flash card, where i convert my RAW files to DNG upon imports.
Being able to shoot tethered directly into lightroom would reduce the need for another software & therefore make for a more efficient
workflow. Particularly when shooting products where we can view on a big screen as we shoot. Thanks for a great software thus far!

In the calendar app, is it possible to link directly to a phone number or address? This function exists in my Palm phone.

No, it isn't possible. It would be nice but it would be very tricky to do since usually the files themselves also hold the data and can only hold it for one album at a time without changing a widely used standard for audio track tagging. Frankly, I suspect the space savings would not be all that great.

Possible to capture direct from monitor?

Hi,
Is it possible to capture video directly from my computer monitor. I want to create a video tutorial on running some programs. I don't really know anything about the video software, I bought the CS5 master collection for the other programs. So, I just wondered if any of them can do it before I spend $40 on FRAPS.

Check out CamStudio; it's a free screen recording program.
Note that if you use the CamStudio codec, you'll have to transcode the files to a different codec as the CS codec is not 64-bit. You can also Google for 64-bit screen capture codecs, and use one of those.

Shoot direct to QuickTime Pro vs. typical DV tape and capture

I own and run a harmonica instruction website. I'm going to add instructional video to the mostly text based lessons on the site. I have a Canon GL1, G5 Dual 2.3, FCP, and I'm shooting with an 3 point lighting setup in my office/studio.
I can turn the camera on, setup the lights, and record direct to QuickTime Pro in it's Device Native mode. Will the quality ultimately be the same as if I record to a DV tape and then capture to FCP? It's certainly faster going direct to QT PRO, but I do have a built-in tape backup system by recording first with the GL1 and I don't want to sacrifice quality if that's the case.

I have an XL1s and have been forced to use the direct capture via QTpro (due to a broken tape mechanism) and I must say, it works great. It captures as DV - same quality as going to tape; however once it is done recording, you must export as a dv stream in order to get the file to be recognized by FCP. I have yet to see any difference between this method and capturing to tape, but then again, I have no choice. If you have the extra hard disk space to spare, I recommend avoiding tape, but it's up to you.
By the way, does anyone know why FCP doesn't recognize the raw capture files? It uses the DV codec to capture in QT, so why does it not work?

N82 - Possible to only direct calls to Bluetooth H...

I've noticed that if my BT HF (Plantronics 655) is active, the GPS lady's voice is always directed to it. This is true even if my Plantronics is sitting in its "holster".
Obviously, I'd like the GPS directions to come through the phone's speakers, but at the same time I need to have the HF ready for receiving calls in the car. One could also imagine that the driver would like to connect his phone to the car stereo's mini jack input, without the music being sent to his BT HF.
Does anyone know of a solution to this one?

Is it possible to get direct access to parallel port pins under Windows NT? What can I do

to get such an access under NT? I found Write to Parallel Port.vi but I can`t open it. The error that occurs is:
resource not found, error occured while loading the vi, labview load error code 8: could not load vi ressources.
This vi is from 1994. Maybe the source of trouble is that I`m using version 5.1.1 or it is a problem with NT. What do you think?

Parallel Port.vi can only be used in DOS-Systems (like Win9x, WinME ;-). NT does not allow writing to parallel port with low level routines. It is more useful to use the digital port that is on most of the DAQ cards.

In general it seems to be possible. Somebody told me just to use the write port command with the address of the parallel port. Another way seems to be to tell NT to allow direct port access - but I don't know how.

Is it possible to get direct print without preview of the Smart Form?

Hi,
I developed a custom report where line items are coming with a check-box in front of each item. User can select single/multiple line-items by checking those check-boxes. The report also has a PRINT button in application tool bar by clicking which a Smart Form will be printing for each item. Thats mean, for 10 selected line items, 10 forms will be printed.
But, after clicking the PRINT button, print preview of the form is coming and from there I can go for a print/printer. I do not need the print preview and want to have the direct print option while clicking the PRINT button. How can I have this functionality?

Here is a very simple example via PowerShell and WMI. It requires your collection id, site code and site server as input. It writes as output the collectionmember plus query, or direct.

I encourage you to look at the Vision Builder AI LabVIEW API, which is supported in LabVIEW 8.6.
This feature allow you to control Vision Builder AI from LabVIEW (open inspection, run once, get results etc.)
Unless your application requires really tight hardware integration, with hardware that you can only do in LabVIEW code, the code you're going to write with the API will be much cleaner than working with the code generated, which is somehow complex.

Is it possible to limit Direct Org Transfer to only for few items

Hello everyone,
I have a requirement where user wants to perform Direct Org Transfer with in two orgs. But they don't want to allow the end users to perform DOT for all the items. There is a specific group of items for which they want to enable DOT within two specific orgs only.
Does Oracle provide such feature? When I did the shipping network setup, I was able to perform DOT for all the items. Not sure, how to limit it for specific items.

I think there is no standard way of doing it. As a workaround, you may setup a DFF to indicate whether the item is Inter-org transfer enabled (Y/N) and then personalise the Inter-org transfer form to check the DFF value of the selected item and raise form trigger failure and appropriate error message for the items not allowed for inter-org transfer.
