Is it possible to straighten horizons in movie clips?

Create a new Event and call it something suitable.
Copy the clip sequence you want to re-use.
Right-click in the Event Browser
Choose 'New Compound Clip'.
Right-click the Compound Clip in the Browser.
Choose 'Open in Timeline.
Paste your clip sequence into the Compound Clip.
The Compound Clip (with the clip sequence) will remain in the Event for you to use in future projects etc etc.

  • Is it possible to straighten horizon on video footage in Premiere Pro

Just trying to achieve the above in CS6
    Thanks in advance

You can adjust the rotation of a picture using the fixed motion effects, one rotated you will have to change the scale to lose the black borders to the picture.

  • Is it possible to pause a video clip?

    Hi,
Could anybody tell me if it possible to pause a video clip for a few frames and then resume playing later in the project?
I guess I could chop the video clip into several discrete shorter clips and create some static freezeframes, and then play them all one after the other to crate the same effect.
But that sounds clumsy so I wondered if there is a way to pause/resume a video clip within a project.
    Thanks.
    Meme.

Many thanks for the pointers. I excitedly booted-up Motion to explore further...
... but I couldn't find anything called Timing remap or re-timing etc. Then it dawned on me that I should have specified that I'm still using Motion 2, and I guess those features are only available in Motion 3?
However, armed with the new phrase 'Timing Remap', I dived back into Google and came up with this article:
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/speed_changesmotion.html
This explains how to use the Scrub filter (also available in Motion 2) to control the playback of video clips relative to the project.
Its a bit fiddly, but I'm comfortable with basic arithmetic, so I can certainly use it to achieve the effect I want (basicaly I need a video clip to pause and then resume a few times throughout a project).
So thanks again for the feedback. It really did help.

  • IMovie-it possible to add a video clip into an existing piture?????

if i have an existing picture, (still), is it possible to cut a small clip from a movie, and place it on the picture? If so, obviously the picture would stay still, but would the movie keep rolling????

    you're looking for a socalled 'pic-in-pic' effect..
unfortunately, iM08 only supports a still on a video, not a video on a still..
you need tools as QuicktimePro or advanced editors as FinalCutExpress to accomplish such an effect.

  • Straighten horizon in panoramas? Lightroom to Photoshop CC

I am using photoshop to stitch together 40 photos of the grand canyon I'd like to combine into a larger panorama.
The photos are in Lightroom (Canon Raw files from a 5D mk ii). I highlight them and select the merge as panorama in photoshop option.
I choose perspective combine (the first option).
Once the photos are combined (a process that takes about 15 minutes), the horizon is very, very curved, and heavily distorted, as if the photo was taken with a fish eye lens (each individual frame is shot at 70mm).
What is the best way to straighten the horizon and remove the distortion to make the photo appear natural?
Lastly, I want to maintain the RAW info so that I can edit the photo to it's full potential in lightroom, however photoshop only lets me export hte panorama as a tiff or jpeg. What's the best way to retain as much information as possible in this scenario?
Thank you all for your help.

The result looking like a fisheye is probably normal because your combined angular field of view was very wide, right?
The horizon being bowed is because you didn’t shoot your images equally distributed above and below the actual horizon since the Grand Canyon is all below the horizon if you were shooting from the rim, or mostly above horizontal if shooting from the canyon floor.  The panorama creation algorithms don’t know and just guess that the horizon is halfway from the top and bottom of the images, at least if there are no clues from vertical poles or straight edges in the image.
Anyway, what you need is different software that allows adjusting the horizon point up and down, as well as changing the projection after the stitching has occurred.   There may be some way to use mapping of your panorama onto a sphere and then use 3D manipulation in PS but I am not sure how to do this so cannot really advice if and how it might work.
What I would recommend is getting dedicated panorama software that allows extensive tweaking of many things including the horizon and projection.
One possibility is HugIn, an open source project that is both free and complicated to understand although very powerful once you do.  I’ll let you Google for it, as I remember it wasn’t too hard to find.
The product I use which is also reasonably powerful and a lot easier to understand but also not free is AutoPanoGiga from http://www.kolor.com/   I think it has a trial option so you can get the feel of how it works before deciding if you want to pay for it.

  • Is it possible to rotate a video clip in iphoto?  Thanks.

I recorded a video clip with the camera on it's side and once uploaded to iphoto it found that it was still on it's side and the 'rotate' button at the bottom is not lit up.  Is it possible to rotate?  Thanks, I would appreciate your help!

No.  You'll need to use Quicktime Player to rotate and export as a new file. It's explained my léonie in this topic: Movie clip rotation

First i'm totally new to Final Cur Pro x. Is it possible to add a videoclip to the multicam file i've created ? I've created a multicam file with 2 angles and got them aligned manually cause FCP couldn't do it right. Anyway now i want to add a third angle is that possible.

  • Is it possible to play videos or clips with the appletv from an Time Capsule direct without other hardware?

I want to play videos, movies and music-clips (either mp4, other formats or out of an itunes-db) on my appletv without using other hardware than the apple tv an the Time Capsule (except the tv ;-) ). Is it possible to stream direct from the Time Capsule? With other and even cheaper NAS-Storages is it possible, eg. with the ps3 ...Thanks for help.

The TC from the day it was introduced until today.. has got a bigger hard disk and gained dual band wireless.. but nothing substantial.. it is not a NAS and has never been more than a target for TM mostly laptops as any desktop Mac can have an external drive for backups cheaper and faster than TC.
Many people were disappointed that Gen4 was a nothing upgrade. it is just a Gen3 with a different wireless card. Don't know if there will even be a Gen5 as Apple seems to see Cloud as the answer for remote storage. I would not be surprised if it was dropped completely. But who knows.. Apple sure don't let any secrets out of the bag.
And for the AppleTV 3 there is no JB or other things possible at this moment?
Not yet.. we are awaiting as some major effort is being expended. There is a hack just recently for the ATVv2 with v5 of iOS.. so the v3 may not be far behind.. v2 are commanding high prices at the moment on ebay though.. near to double purchase price when they sold out before v3 arrived.. as people discover their TV watching plans are now in tatters. Or their library of movies is no longer accessible.

  • Possible to batch share multiple clips?

In Pro or Elements, is it possible to create clips and then export them in a batch?
We've been using Final Cut Pro X, but it no longer does that (at least not in a way that is efficient for us). We've been capture video from a Canopus FW converter to .DV format, than handing those off to Compressor for QuickTime Streaming (we will be migrating to some new format, but that's what we're using now). Any recommendations for project format (NTSC DV?), and then an output format of high quality we can then batch in Compressor? thanks

Thanks, I'll have to look into that to see if it encodings hinted QuickTime movies for streaming. One of the challenges is having to buy yet anohter encoder, when we have one already. The other is possibly a limited set of export formats, but I won't know until I look into it.

  • Possible to "grab" a video clip from a web page?

I am listening to a video clip (spoken by a favorite writer of mine,
http://anon.salon.speedera.net/anon.salon/mp3s/nin1.mp3 ) and I would like to get it, have it, and put it in my hard drive to listen to with a single click. Is this possible? To "grab" a video clip from the Internet?

    Lorna,
the trick is not to hold down the shift key and then
press the rightmost arrow on the QT player, but hold
    down the Ctr key instead.

Hello, Mr. Ouderkirk.......... I FEEL LIKE THE BIGGEST NERD ON THE PLANET. I read your reply and also the reply of NewMacGuru and do not see any of the items to which you both refer. First of all, I actually was able to get the download by following Mike Wong's instructions, but you were very kind to reply and I want to acknowledge you (and I also want to learn what you are trying to teach me!!).
The thing for me is: I see a blank screen with a video clip icon. There are no down arrows, there is no indication of a QUICKTIME player anywhere. Thus, your and NewMacGuru's instructions to me to click this and that thing is like telling the nomad in the desert, "Find that Coke machine, insert 75¢, and the can will fall out" and the nomad is sitting there on his camel, scratching all the hairs out of his head. (But in a loving way.)
A menu will appear giving you the option to save the
movie to the desktop (at least it does that on my
computer, but I do use QT Pro)
An alternative for you could be to use Ambrosia
software's 'Wiretap' which lets you grap any sound
    that your computer produces.
    Have fun.
    Harry
    .......... Lorna says .............................................
Harry, I like the idea of Ambrosia, but there is the Basic 101 part of my brain that wants me to understand everyone's explanations. Maybe this is a bad thing for me and maybe I should just be glad that there are ways to do things without understanding what one is doing -- like iWeb making a webite without knowing a lick of HTML.
So.... imagine me seeing a white screen with no arrows, no nothng except that long thin horizontal icon of a video control bar, and you will see my predicament. BUT THANK YOU FOR TRYING, HARRY.

  • In Prelude is it possible to export my sub clips as complete files?

I work at a youth sports camp, and have a massive amount of footage to work with each week to create a highlight video. The video used is collected by multiple employees with different skill levels. Is it possible with Prelude to save just the sub clips from the ingested footage? Or do I need to save the original file that the subclip is linked to? I would like to cut out any bad footage from the weekly bin before editing begins.
    Thanks

    Hi –
In Prelude CS6 there isn’t any method for exporting just subclips as new media files. However, you can select your subclips and send them into Premiere Pro from Prelude using the “Send to Premiere Pro…” menu command under the FILE menu. This will package your subclips and create items in Premiere Pro’s project panel which you can then easily export into new files on disk.
Thanks for making the post and the request. We have heard this request from others as well and are looking into this workflow for Prelude.
    Thanks!

  • Is it possible to split sequences in Clips so that they be use repeatedly, easily?

In putting together shows using repeating elements, it would be desirable to be able to store a cut sequence (e.g. a title sequence for a series) into Clips for reuse. Is this in fact possible to do in FCPX? A related question is whether it is possible to chop apart items in Clips so as to facilitate their repeated use?

Create a new Event and call it something suitable.
Copy the clip sequence you want to re-use.
    Right-click in the Event Browser
    Choose 'New Compound Clip'.
Right-click the Compound Clip in the Browser.
    Choose 'Open in Timeline.
Paste your clip sequence into the Compound Clip.
The Compound Clip (with the clip sequence) will remain in the Event for you to use in future projects etc etc.

  • Is it possible to export a video clip from DVD player to iMovie '09?

If I load a homemade DVD onto my iMac using Disk Utility and then import either the entire disc or portions of the disc into iMovie, that works just fine. However I noticed that some clips are missing in iMovie, even though they are on the iMac in form of a .dmg file on the desktop. The same file that was used to import in to iMovie. If I look at this file using DVD player, everything is there, but some of these clips are missing in the event window. So I created a video clip in DVD player of those pieces missing in iMovie and now how can I get these into iMovie?

Hey, best way to import video from a DVD video disc for editing is to acctually have a simple video file. Use Handbrake or MPEG StreamClip to read the disc and create a video file off the video stream.
You could also set in and out points anc manually create several clips, which may help with playback and rendering for editing. I don't know how extensive you're going to get in your editing with iMovie...
    Hope that helped.

  • IMovie 11: Is it possible to layer effects in "clip inspector" menu?

I want to do a side-by-side video with one side flipped in the "clip effects" so it looks like the halves are going into each other. Question: since I have already used 'flipped' for the left section, can I use another effect for the left section? I would like to apply 'sepia' to both halves, but it appears that since I already used 'flipped' for the left half, that I cannot use 'sepia' as well. Only one effect at a time? Any way around this?

In Final Cut Pro X, you can layer multiple effects, and you can choose the order in which they are applied.
In iMovie, you can only have one effect at a time.
However, in the case of Sepia or Black and White, there is another option, which lets you do it in iMovie after all.
You can create a Sepia effect using the Video Adjustments. You can have one "effect" and one "video adjustment" at the same time.
To do this, use the VIDEO tab of the Inspector.
Note: Thanks to Jeff Carlson of MacWorld for this tip.
If you're looking for a washed-out sepia appearance, first open iMovie's preferences and turn on the Show Advanced Tools option, which adds more controls to the Video Adjustments HUD and other areas of the program. Select the clip you want to alter and press the V key. Set Saturation to 0 percent, and then drag the Red Gain slider to 143 percent, the Green Gain slider to 90 percent, and the Blue Gain slider to 53 percent (feel free to tweak these settings to customize the results). Click on Done when you're finished. Note that the clip thumbnail still appears in color, as the video was shot, but the preview reflects your changes.--JC

  • Possible to Start/Stop Mark Clips In Timeline?

    Hello,
    I'm using FCP5 on a Dual 2.7 G5 running 10.4.2
I captured a couple of DV tapes, added a Time Code Generator, and gave the footage to a client on DVD so that they could create a list of shots to not include in the final edit.
I took this list and went through making cuts at the client's listed start and stop Time Codes. The problem I am having is some of the clips left on the timeline have camera start/stop points. I would like to mark these using "DV Start/Stop Detect" so that I could create new edit points between each start/stop of the camera.
I can double click each clip in the timeline... opening it in the viewer... and then select "Mark>DV Start/Stop Detect" and this does exactly what I want. It is very tedious though. Is there anyway to automate this process for each clip in the timeline. I hope I explained what I am trying to do clearly. If not please ask questions and I can fill in details.
    Thank You,
    Matt

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, it would have been alot smarter to run the Start/Stop Detection as my first step after capturing. I'm new to FCP, and my old NLE (Premiere Pro 1.5) would break the Camera Start/Stops into separate .avi files on the hard drive and in the project window / browser. I just didn't think about it this time... but definitely will next time.
What I ended up doing is using the track forward selection tool to select all the clips in the timeline that I wanted to mark. I created a new bin in the browser and put all of my clips in the timeline in this new bin (creating subclips?)
Then I selected all of these clips in the browser and ran the Start/Stop Detect tool. After it finished I sorted all the newly marked clips in my browser by their in points. I then selected all of my clips, dragging them back into the timeline. I put them on a new track so that I could make sure everything lined up correctly. It did. It ended up being a pretty simple fix. Just had to think about it a bit over dinner.
    Thank You,
    Matt
