Is it possible to subscribe to dates in Address Book other than birthdays?

iCal can subscribe to birthdays that have been entered into Address Book.  Is it possible to have iCal pick up other dates that have been included in Address Book entries (anniversary, etc)?
Steve

Hi Steve,
I wrote an application that would enable you do this. Take a look at Dates to iCal. It is £4 shareware with a 3 week demo.
As well as automatically syncing birthday dates from Address Book, Dates to iCal can sync anniversary and custom dates. It can set up to five alarms for each date in iCal and can also set different alarms for birthdays and anniversaries. It allows the option of only syncing from one Address Book group. It application also allows for the titles of the events sent to iCal to be modified.
Best wishes

  • How do I remove on my mac data from address book

I want to get rid of my on my mac data from address book locally on my imac and just use the icloud data to populate address book.  Someone else set up my other machines in the office that way, and I want to do it the same on this imac.  How can I do this?
    Thank you.

    Hi Csound1,
I am stogling with the same issue posted on this discussion.
Exchange2013 and raw contacts populated on my contacts as well as on the exchange server (I have seeing it using a PC and outlook).
You sugest to clean on My Mac contacts. Do not set on My Mac as a default account. Following is what I found:
There is no way to get out the on My Mac account from contacts.
There is no way set any default account on contacts>preferences>general
The on My Mac contacts list IS EMPTY and the '-' sign is hidden on the contacts>preferences>accounts.
When I turn on my Exchange Account on my contacts are downloaded from the server, however, I still not able to set ANY DEFAULT ACCOUNT at all.
If I leave like it is 2 days later I will have at least a dozen of those expurious emails on my contacts list.
    Thanks,
    Edson

  • Is it possible to keep Contact List and Address Book seperate on iPhone?

I just made the switch today- big time – from Motorola to iPhone, and from PC to iMac, plus a Macbook Air as well for travel. Thanks to iphone and Mac forums I have been able to resolve most newbie issues and have exported my data, files and contacts without problem.
However there is one issue I have not been able to resolve or clarify:
    - My old phone contact list has now been transferred my new iPhone, consisting of about 100 phone numbers which I use regularly.
    - Address Book in my new iMac contains about 800 contacts including phone numbers, clients, etc, as well as personal bank account numbers, and other confidential data in the “Notes” field, which I need to refer to only occasionally.
But I understand that if I sync my iPhone with my Mac, it will merge my Address Book contacts on Mac, with the phone contacts on my iPhone Contact list, into one list. Is this true? Is it not possible to maintain 2 separate Apps on my iPhone, i.e
    1. The iPhone Contact list for frequently used telephone contacts, and
    2. The Mac Address Book with more detailed notes and account numbers, which I only need to refer to occasionally?
    3. If this is possible, can I configure it so that a password is required each time the Address Book on iPhone is accessed? (I realise I can configure the iphone to require a pin when turned on), but I would like a password to access the Address App because of the confidential data. Previously I had all this data contained on a Palm Zire 72 handheld and its PC Desktop counterpart, where a password was required to access.
From what I’ve read on the forums, it will be very cumbersome to have a phone contact list with 1000 names on it, so I want to keep phone contacts simple with phone numbers only. (I realise I can set up Group folders in Address Book, but this is not what I need). I'm also concerned about having confidential information on my iPhone which can be accessed without a password for that particular application. I intend to get MobileMe but that also does not address the issue of keeping Telephone Contacts seperate from Address Book on iPhone.
Any help would be much appreciated!

    Speculating:
if, as already suggested, you use the Groups function to sync only the 100 contact list numbers, then how to get the expanded Address Book?
I've not used it myself, but Bento might be worth looking into--Bento on the Mac pulls your Address Book data (I'm pretty sure) and syncs to Bento iPhone.
I don't recall hearing about any alternate phone books, but since pretty much any program on the Mac can hook into the Address Book, you might look at the more powerful note organizers to see if any of them pull that data?
You might have a problem getting notes added on the phone back into Address Book on the Mac, though.
I actually right now keep my main address book in MS Entourage (similar to Outlook), and only use the Mac Address Book to sync to the iPhone. I could sync Entourage to Address Book, but I don't--haven't sorted out the data yet, and I don't really need all the same numbers in both places.
If that sounds possible, you might look at Mark/Space and Missing Sync for iPhone---something like keeping all 800 contacts in Entourage, and syncing them all, but moving the confidential portion of each contact into Entourage Notes and syncing those via Missing Sync, perhaps might work. (I think you can link a contact to a note in Entourage)
An interesting problem. You might also send feedback to Apple:
    http://apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
as this is really not a usage scenario they've planned for. They probably don't care, though--doesn't seem all that common.

  • Viewing the updated date in Address Book

Does anybody know a consistent way to view the "updated date" on an Address Book card if you have lengthy notes for every contact?
In Apple's desire to keep things beautiful instead of functional, they have placed a very light "updated date" status in the lower right-hand corner of each contact card in the Address Book.
However, if you have lengthy notes for that contact, you CAN'T SEE the updated date at all, because the notes obscure the updated date! The ONLY way that we have been able to figure out how to see the updated date is to select all of our notes for the card, CUT the notes to our clipboard, look at the updated date, and then PASTE the notes back into the contact card again.
    Ridiculous, right?!
Any ideas on this? ALSO -- while we're on the topic -- does anybody know of a way to show the updated TIME in conjunction with the date?
    Thanks,
    Scott

Does anybody know a consistent way to view the "updated date" on an Address Book card if you have lengthy notes for every contact?
Other than expanding the size of the Address Book window, there is no way to accomplish that.
does anybody know of a way to show the updated TIME in conjunction with the date?
That cannot be done at the present time, though it's possible that Apple may add that feature or option in the future.

  • Lost all data in address book

I turned on my computer and address data is missing. I'm trying to restore it up from my IPAQ (program used The Missing Sync) but can't figure out how.
The address list is also on my IPOD.
How do I get the data from one of these devices back into my Address Book? How did the addresses just disappear? All help appreciated!! I'm stymied.

Apparently Address Book 3.1 and Mail 1.3 have bugs in them. I've been having problems with Mail for years. It all by itself redoes the "columns" and "sort by" (View menu), without fail, every month. It has also had a "drafts" folder disappear. Thank goodness I have learned to ALWAYS back up, frequently and keep one set off site.
In terms of Address Book, I daily make address book contact backups (very easy in Address Book from the menu--File--back up data base then choose where) because I KNOW from years of experience it will do the disappearing whenever I do a search (window), change preferences or change from seeing group, name, card to just card. I have a folder on my DT called "In Progress". In it I keep 3 days of Address Book Backups then delete the old ones using Secure Delete. I count on bugs (but am sometimes surprised) and invent workarounds when possible.

  • How can I go to a specific date in the future other than by clicking one month at a time?

Would like to go to a specific date several years from now and see what else I have scheduled (if any) or to see if that day is a holiday or even just to see what day of the week that day falls on. Can I do this in some way other than clicking on the NEXT MONTH button a gazillion times?
I am using Windows 7 (64-bit) on a Dell THX computer.

  • Importing iCal dates into Address book

I have a calendar in iCal that stored severyone's brithday and I would like now to import these dates into my address book.  Is there any way?
    Thanks

    Hi,
You may be able do this with an Applescript. However there is not enough information supplied to know.
How are ther events formatted in iCal? Do they contain the full name of the person? Do they say how old they are? Are the people already in Address Book, or would they all be new cards?
    Best wishes

  • How do you transfer ical data and address book from a mac back up to an ipad?

    I have a HD back-up from my mom's dead imac g5.
I am sending her an iPad, and would LOVE to have here Address Book and iCal data so she has that all set up.

If you want to transfer a large amount of files, the best way would be to use an external drive. If you do not have one, consider the option of using Target Disk mode, so you just have to get a Thunderbolt cable; this is the fastest option.
To use Target Disk mode, connect the Thunderbolt to the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro. Then, start up your MacBook Pro and hold the T key while it is starting up until you see the Thunderbolt icon in the display. Now, go to the MacBook Air, open a Finder window and you will see the MacBook Pro hard drive in the sidebar, so access to them and transfer the files you want to.

  • Referencing and hopfully deleting custom dates in Address Book?

I'm really struggling with this as a AS newbie.
I want to delete all custom date values from selected Address Book records. I am using the following script which successfully deletes Birthdays but cannot handle custom dates such as "Anniversary".
can someone please help me out?
    Thanks Paul

    set mySelection to selection
    repeat with this_person in mySelection
    delete birth date of this_person
    end repeat

    Hi palouis
I think this is what your after, but according to the Applescript Engineer Chris Nebel, it appears that their is a bug, maybe follow it up to see where they are at with fixing it.

  • How do I do a search based on a range of dates in Address Book?

In Palm Desktop, when I performed a search, a dialogue window would pop up that gave me a drop down list of every category in my database (ie. date modified, company, first name, last name, etc.).  I could choose to just search for entries that were modified between january 2011 and March of 2011.  I could choose to search for just the entries that were from the city of New York.
How do I taylor a search to just Address Book entries from Jan 2011 to March 2011?  I can perform a smart search in a finder window, but that won't be able to only search Address Book, and it doesn't seem to bring up Address Book entries at all anyway.  Does anyone have any ideas or is this just an insurmountable short coming of Address Book?
    Thanks for your help.

Try creating a Smart Group within Address Book with a couple of statements to specify start date and end date.
This criteria I used in this example finds Address Book entries updated after 1/1/2011, and not changed in the last 48 weeks.
Testing on my Address Book this logic located 10 records meeting the criteria of almost 400 total entries over the last 4 years.

  • How to recover missing data in Address Book?

Was shutting down my i-Book. Decided to Force Quit some Applications and accidently Force Quit the Finder. When I rebooted and tried to use Mail, found all the addresses in
my Address Book were gone. The Address History was also empty. Any way to recover the lost addresses? I did not have a back-up copy of the files in Address Book.
    Blueberry i-book   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

My 13 year old Grandson found the missing addresses. They
    were in Library/ApplicationSupport/AddressBook/AddressBook.data.backup
He renamed the file by dropping .backup and when AddressBook was reopened, the missing cards were back. I had looked for AddressBook in ApplicationSupport, but didn't see it listed in the Application list for some reason.

  • Where does 10.6 keep exchange data for Address Book?

Today I lost many of my exchange contacts (??) and I'd like to restore from a backup, but the database in ~/Library/Application Support/Address Book only seems to contain the "on my mac" addresses, and I really need to restore from a backup that contains my exchange contacts. Restoring from time machine fails, it only restores my local contacts. Anyone know where I can find that data? Totally baffled by this...

It's not only Exchange entries, I have the problem with regular address book entries stored locally (and synced to MobileMe). Sometimes they pop up, sometimes they don't, sometimes some show up but not all of them, it's very odd. I can temporarily correct the problem by adding the Library/Application Data/Address Book folder to Spotlight privacy exclusion, letting it sit for a few minutes, then removing it (so that it re-indexes the data), but with hours, it back to mysteriously dropping data.
Also recently all data in my Address Book disappeared, and I had to delete all the files in the Library/Application Data/Address Book folder, then re-sync to MobileMe in order to get it back. Very concerning!
I've been having this issue since 10.6 was initially released, and it concerns me that 2 point releases have gone by without a fix for this.

  • Numbers '08 importing data and merging data from address book .....

    HI all,
This is the time of year we have to tot-up all of our kilometers travelled to clients which is a real headache.
I am really keen to get this automated somehow and would be very grateful for some help.
    Here are the details:
We use the address book app as our client database which includes name, address and kilometers from our base.
We have an accounting appcilation which lists all invoices by name, includes a date and I could also input the km in here if needed.
I would like to create a spread sheet in numbers that will contain a list of all clients invoiced and the kms traveled to their place from our base.
I can get the client list by getting our accounting software to output the data in CSV format, then input the data into numbers, however, I have a couple of queeries regarding the kms values and the import process ....
    (a) firstly, I used to use in excel a very useful function of importing text from text edit, where I was able to choose what delimited a field, spaces, commas, even just width, does this also exist in Numbers? I have looked with no you.
    (b) next the kms values, is there any automated way to match the client names in my excel sheet and pull in the kms values from the address book field?
If not, they could be inputed into my accounting software each time I enter a record, it just means a bit more work for me on a daily basis.
Many thanks in advance for your thoughts on this. I'm sure there is a clever way of getting round this somehow ....

Feature unavailable in Numbers '09 too

Numbers have no provision to communicate with other applications.
With Numbers '09, we may fit the gap with AppleScript but there is no AppleScript support in Numbers '08.

  • Is it a possible to run Java application built by JBuilder other than it?

    Dear All,

We have built our EJB application completely using JBuilder 9.
