Is it possible to sync your ipod to a new computer?

Just wanted some info on uploading your ipod music to a computer, and if yes how can if be done.
XPS   Windows XP

Essentially what you need to do is get the music files from the G4 to the Macbook.
Because both computers are Macs this is a little easier. A few ways to do this (I don't believe all of these are covered in the article) are:
1. Use an external drive (could be your iPod) to move the files
2. If both computers are connected to the same network, turn on file sharing and connect to the G4 from the Macbook.
3. Use firewire transfer mode. Connect the two computer with a firewire cable and reboot the G4 while pressing T. The G4's HD should show up as an external disk on the Macbook.
2 and 3 should be the quickest as the files only need to be copied once. Further instructions on these methods are available in the Mac knowledge base
HOWEVER, if all the songs on the iPod are purchased from the ITMS, you can plug the iPod into the Macbook and from iTunes select File -> Transfer purchases from iPod. This only works with ITMS songs, not songs from CDs or other sources.

I asked apple care this once and they said you need to call for them to help you deauthorize and re authorize you new pc.
I dont know if that would be it or not. You only get one free support call first ninty days I think unless you purchased apple care plan somewehre.

  • My computer crashed. So does this mean I can not add any more music to my ipod from a different computer without all the songs being erased? Can I sync my ipod to a new computer if I allow all the songs to be erased?

My computer crashed. So does this mean I can not add any more music to my ipod from a different computer without all the songs being erased? The ipod works fine and now i got a new computer. So it seems like my only options are leaving my ipod in a state where i cant add anymore songs or erasing all my songs and trying to use my ipod from my new computer. Can someone please inform me on how to have my ipod work from a different computer, even if i have to erase my songs. Thanks.

Yes, if you choose the Erase and Sync option (or restore your iPod) you will be allowed to sync your iPod with the new computer.

  • I recently downloaded the new version of itunes and was trying to sync my ipod to my new computer and all of my music disappeared.  Where is my music?

I recently downloaded the newest version of iTunes and was trying to sync my iPod to my new computer for the first time.  Somehow in this process I somehow lost all of my music!  It says that I only havce 10 songs unless I'm looking in my library somewhere else.  But even on my iPod all of my music is gone!  Help someone!!!  Can I find what music I used to have?

If the music that was removed from your iPod (which happened as a result of syncing it with a new computer... an iPod is designed to sync with only one library at a time.  Connecting it to a new/different iTunes library will erase what is currently on the iPod and replace it with what is in the new library) is no longer in a backup anywhere or another PC, then there is no way to tell what used to be on your iPod.
You'll need to either rerip the tracks you had from CDs back into iTunes or redownload them from iTunes via iCloud if possible.

  • How do I synce my Ipod to a new computer that isnt the one that I originally synced with?

How do I sync my Ipod to a new computer that isnt the one that I originally synced with?

    - Transfer iTunes purchases to the new computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party program like on of those discussed here:
    newer copy
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup.
Note that the iPod backup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps and music.

Follow these instructions. When you restore the iPod from backup as the article says your iPod will also be updated.

  • Can someone tell me how to sync my ipod on my new computer i have just authorised. i hate this

Can someone tell me how i sync my ipod on my new computer. i have authorised the computer but i can not find where to sync it. i thought Apple was meant to be easy

    Hi Richail,
Once you have selected your sync options in iTunes, such as what music or videos you want to transfer, the Apply button should be in the bottom right hand corner of the window. For more information on syncing iOS devices, you may find the following article helpful:

  • I have just changed my computer as my old one died... but now cannot access my old itunes account so i have set up a new one with another email address. how can I sync my ipod to my new computer without wiping all my music ?

I have just tried to sync my ipod to a new computer as my old one died but as I cannot remember my previous log in I created a new itunes account. I now want to sync but it says it will wipe my music off my ipod. Does anyone know how I can do this now ?

If you have purchases on your iPod Shuffle that you want to sync back to iTunes, but are under the Apple ID you no longer have access to, you'll need to reset that account information. You can use this link to reset your password.
    https://iforgot.apple.com/
If that doesn' work or help, you'll need to contact iTunes support and have them walk you through the process of resetting the older account information.  Once you know the email and password again, you can authorize your new computer and transfer any purchases from this account back to iTunes.
For all non-iTunes purchased content, you'll need to the assistance of some sort of third party software that is not supported by Apple. See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions
Delete the "songs" that do not play in your iTunes library and reimport them.

  • Sync my ipod to a new computer without losing songs currently on ipod

I had my itunes and ipod set up on a computer. Then I got a new computer and I had to reinstall itunes on that computer. But, I cant sync my iPod to my new computer because it will erase all the songs that are on it from my old computer, and replace them with the songs in my new library. I have been adding songs manually and that worked for a little but now my iPod is full and I can't take any songs off because my iPod isn't synced to my new itunes. Is there any way I can sync my ipod to my new itunes without losing all my old songs?

Put the songs currently on your iPod back into iTunes.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
Then you can sync your iPod with iTunes as before.

  • How do I sync my iPod onto a new computer?

I want to sync my iPod onto my new computer with my new music and new pictures. But I dont want any of my apps and videos taken with the iPod to be deleted. What can I do to ensure that I dont loose any of my data, but get all the new data I want to sync?

Ipod will sync pics and itunes content with one and only one computer at a time.  Syncing to another will erase the current content.
Copy everything from the old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

               Please help me.

If the problem persists, you'll probably have to make another apple id, it wont take off any games or music or apps or anything you've bought it will all stay there, i have two apple id's and i don't have a problem with anything.
