Is it possible to synce back iMessages in Messages?

So, I was just tonight enlightened of the evolution of iChat to Messages in the Mountain Lion release. I realize I am late to the game. That said, I am here now and really love this new amazing feature.
BUT...is it possible for iMessages sent/received BEFORE I installed Mountain Lion, to be synced into the messages program?
I ask, because I am having a lot of issues with my iPhone lately. At the apple store, I've been told, the only way to fix this, is to wipe and NOT restore from a back up, because any corruption in the software, will come right back along with the restore. I don't want to lose my text messages. I'm not as concerned about other things, but I'm kind of attached to many of them and I'd like to avoid losing them (or individually sorting through 2 years of messages to forward important ones to myself) if possible.
Thanks for any help!
- Marie

Also, can Messages be used to text non-iPhone users, or JUST iPhone users for iMessaging?

  • Sync back lost test messages using recovered files?

I recently lost some very important text messages and used Wondershare to get them back but I was under the impression that I could restore them to my phone.  Does anyone know how to do this?  If so please help me!  I have an iphone 4.

    You’re welcome.
Pay attention to the instructions that Mail displays
when choosing Mail for Mac OS X as the data
format. Mail wants you to select the folder that
contains the mailboxes to be imported (i.e. the
folder where the *.mbox folders to be imported
    reside), not the *.mbox folders
themselves nor the Messages folders within
    them.
If you select the wrong folder, Mail says “No
valid Mail for Mac OS X files were found” because
it cannot find any *.mbox folders
    within the folder you’re selecting.
Have you ever been a lifesaver today! While pasting a URL from Safari to an email, the email program crashed. Rather that selecting Report Error I selected Retry. The program came up as though it was a new installation and all my emails were gone. I found a post of yours from 7/7/06 and followed those instructions but my mail didn't re-appear although I could find it in /Library/Mail etc. I finally found this post and have imported appropriate MBox files and it looks like things will be back to near normal after 4 hours of trying. Again, thinks so much for your helpful posts.

  • Sync old iMessage conversations from iPhone to new iPad & Mac?

I have had my iPhone for a couple years now, and have accumulated a fairly large amount of iMessage conversations from various people. A few days ago, I purchased my first iPad and also updated my Mac to Mountain Lion. By doing so, I now have access to iMessage on three devices in total, whereas before I only had one.
I have managed to setup my devices so that all new iMessages I send and receive are being synced between them. However, is it possible to sync my old iMessage conversations from my iPhone back onto my iPad and Mac?
I would like to do so in order to keep a full record of the past conversations I have had with my contacts.
I have done a bit of research before posting, but the only related topics I found werehttps://discussions.apple.com/message/19095937 andhttps://discussions.apple.com/message/17818920. The former was left unresolved, whereas the latter describes a solution which I am unable to reproduce.
Could anyone shed some light on this for me?

    Hi,
For me this was very early on in my Mountain Lion days.
I would now say that you cannot sync iMessages from an iOS device that were sent before your linked any Apple ID with the iPhone Number or added the Mac to the use of the Apple ID.
At the point at which and Apple ID is used on both an iPad and the Mac version of Messages becomes it's "Start date"
The same can be said for adding an Apple ID to an iPhone and the Mac.
On the Mac all messages can be saved if you wish.
This are in the .ichat format which you can send to Mac  Buddies and then can open them and read them as if they were the chat (i.e they display as "chats').
There appears to be no way in iTunes to access the iMessages (or SMS ones) on the iPhone.
Someone who knows more about the iOS may be able to tell you if they are accessible another way.

  • Can I sync my iMessages from one device to another?

I had an iPhone and an iPad at the same time and all of my messages were on both. Now I have a new macbook pro and an android phone, and was wondering if it was possible to sync my old iMessages on to my macbook? My iPad still has all the messages and I would like to have them on my Mac too.

    Hi,
    No.
iMessages are what is called "Pushed" from the server to the Registered devices.
Once the Registered devices have signalled that they have the iMessages it is deleted from the server.
There is also a time limit if one device is Off line such as a work computer over a weekend.  Logic says it is about 3 - 4 days  (I have experience of 48 hours)
On a Mac you can set the Save on Close option in the Messages Preferences.
This will Save the iMessages or Chats in that session when the app is Quit (or the computer Shut Down with the app open) or if the Conversation or Chat is dismissed from the main window.
These can be transferred between Macs.
There are tools that can extract some info if you use iTunes to make Backups of the iPad or iPhone

ATA bus error means that data corruption occurred during transmission over ATA bus (SATA or PATA). This type of errors can be indicated by

Controller-specific error completion with error information indicating transmission error.

Unknown/random errors, timeouts and all sorts of weirdities.
As described above, transmission errors can cause wide variety of symptoms ranging from device ICRC error to random device lockup, and, for many cases, there is no way to tell if an error condition is due to transmission error or not; therefore, it's necessary to employ some kind of heuristic when dealing with errors and timeouts. For example, encountering repetitive ABRT errors for known supported command is likely to indicate ATA bus error.
Once it's determined that ATA bus errors have possibly occurred, lowering ATA bus transmission speed is one of actions which may alleviate the problem.
I'd also add; make sure you have good backups when ATA errors are frequent

  • Music files in my PC's iTunes directory have been moved around, now iTunes' index is not recognizing them and returns error messages. The files have previously been sync'd to my iPod, but when I tried to sync back from the iPod, iTunes on the PC error'd.

I want iTunes to reconstruct its index of my music.
We accidentally moved files around in my <<C:\Documents and Settings\Jordan\My Documents\My Music\iTunes>> directory. We tried to move them back, but anyway, the iTunes program now no longer can find/play the titles that the opened iTunes page/Library displays.
I had previously copied/syncd all my iTunes music to my iPod. I tried syncing back to the PC from the iPod.  No improovement.
At the moment, my dad is on my computer, logged in under his name (with administrative permissions). It seems that looking at my iTunes music under his login is still working OK.
I do not have my music backed up to the "cloud".
    What are my options?

The "missing file" error happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
If another application like Windows Media Player has moved/renamed the files then the chances are that subtle differences in naming strategies will make it hard to restore the media to the precise path that iTunes is expecting. In such cases, as long as the missing files can be found somewhere, you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works.
If you have to resort to trying to pull back the library from your iPod see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

Well first you need to sync your iPhone 4 with your Mac/PC so that it will transfer all your music, apps, podcasts, etc. Then sync your iPod Touch and the media you selected during the sync should be there on your iPhone. If you have difficulty in transferring media from iPhone to your computer, try softwares like TransCopy. They will help in transferring data from your iphone to your computer. Dont forget to check that all the transferred data is in the iTunes media folder so that the iTunes can locate the files. Link to Transcopy software :

  • Is it possible to revert back from iPhoto to Pictures?

Too be quite honest I have never really liked iPhoto and especially when you sync it with the iPhone and iPad etc. Is it possible to revert back to just using Pictures?
If this is possible I would like to be able to export my iPhoto album into Pictures and then delete iPhoto.
    Cheers and Happy New Year!!

    What is your iPhoto version?
In iPhoto '11 you would need to export your iPhoto events, one by one, to folders in your Pictures folder.
Use the command "File > Export, Kind Original" to export the original files you imported to iPhoto, and use the command "File > Export , Kind Current" to export your edited versions.
To find out, which photos have been dited or not, define two smart albums (File > New > Smat album) with the  rules:
         Photo is not edited
    and the other one:
         Photo is edited
This way you can make sure to export all edited versions as well and not only the originals.

  • Sync old imessages from iPhone with Messages Beta?

Alright I'm using Messages Beta and absolutely love it. Everything works fine and all, but just one thing - is there a possibility to sync OLD messages and conversations from my iPhone to my Messages Beta? Basically I want all threads and messages that I have on my iPhone to appear on my Messages Beta.
    Anyone know?
I'm sure there's gonna be a feature like that in iTunes once Mountain Lion is released... but perhaps someone already knows a trick
    Cheers
    iPhone 4, iOS 5.1

    Hi,
Messages beta and using an Apple ID as the Caller ID on the Phone is what gets the iMessages sent from the phone to be synced.
That is to say, that any Phone Number to Phone Number message sent before cannot be synced to Mesages Beta.
    Nor can current ones.
I must admit to not using my phone enough to know any tricks about forwarding a whole message somewhere else either in Messages on the Phone or via email.
    EDIT !
    Actually find Contact/Message on phone.
Highlight to go to the message or conversation.
    Hit Edit top right
Select those IMs you want to Send somewhere.
    Chose Forward at bottom.
Type in Contact (I used the Apple ID I use in Messages)
The select Messages get sent as one IM to Messages.
(I tested with several IMs from my carrier that only have one side of conversation)

  • Is it possible to sync an up to date iOS device on an outdated iTunes? (Related to my love about iTunes 11)

So, I love updating my apps, operating systems and software. The moment iTunes 11 released, I updated it and loved it. But I have some friends that don't care about updating at all, and every time we meet, I steal their iPhones and iPod touches and update all their apps. (They kinda let me, I think they're just lazy). But I'm afraid one of them will be reluctant to update to iTunes 11, and in my perfect world no one can be outdated. Is it possible to sync an updated iOS (like the upcoming 7, and then 8) to an old iTunes like 10.6? I really need to know this to feel good, because if you have to be on an up to date iTunes to sync your updated iOS device, I know that one day they will be forced against their will to update to the new iTunes version, and I will feel great :)
Any kind answers will be appreciated.

Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Does any media now sync to the iPod?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

  • Apple TV purchases do not sync back to library

I have an original Apple TV,bought it a few weeks after release. Suddenly, about 2 months ago it stopped syncing purchases made on the Apple TV back to my library. I now have 28 gigs of shows bought since then, but before the problem became apparent, that are on the Apple TV but not in my iTunes library.
We have always bought show directly on the Apple TV and let them sync back. I have a dozen or so movies and over one hundred TV shows bought this way. No changes to the itunes library, network, or settings were made anywhere near the time this began to happen. We literally purchased a show, watched it, synced it back to the library, went to dinner, bought a new show, and syncing stopped.
I have tried telling the TV to sync. Telling the library to sync. Telling the library to sync purchased TV content. Restarting the Apple TV. Connecting the TV to a new library. Deleting an unwanted show to see if jump starts something. Resetting users settings. Connecting directly by ethernet to the computer I want to sync to, and restarting the Apple TV.
Any ideas how to get this content from the Apple TV to the library without deleting it and asking Apple to let me redownload it? Any other possible solutions?
    Thanks in advance....

I have the same problem. Can't understand why this is suddenly not working. It used to work fine before. Is it linked to the new Apple TV rollout? I think Apple need to sort this one out quickly as it puts off people with Apple TVs from purchasing through the TV.

  • HT1766 iPhone 4s; Is it possible to sync apps to icloud without using the touchscreen?

I've been using my iphone 4S with a cracked screen for over three months now (it fell on a tile floor hitting the top front corner first, 5 weeks after I got it) without any issues. Tonight I dropped it from a height of about 8 inches and the part of the face that was cracked made first contact with something that was on a table I was standing at, jamming it further into the phone. When I picked it up I noticed a small piece had also fallen out near an intersection of the cracks. The touchscreen is now completely black.
My question: Is it possible to sync my apps to the icloud without using the iphone touchscreen? I plan I getting a new phone and had my icloud setup to sync my mail, contacts and calendars. I've been able to download all my pictures and video to my computer.

Getting/reinstalling the apps isn't a problem. I'm only concerned with the data that is stored within them. For instance I have a mileage tracker I've been using but haven't uploaded the data from the phone to back it up anywhere. I'd like to do that before getting a new phone but I can't see what i'm doing due to the screen not working.
The phone is actually still working and I've been able to use Siri to make calls and send texts without a working screen. The screen still accepts inputs apparently so if I could return settings to factory settings I could theoretically use another phone side by side to show me exactly where I need to touch and when to back up my applications to iClould.
Going forward, I actually had ordered another case before my accident as my current case doesn't provide enough protection. It'd be nice if Apple actually made an iphone that didn't need such band-aids for normal usage.
